Help With Content In Flash Site
This is a flash portfolio site prototype of my current site at the moment. Takes a while to load Be patient lol

In the news section of the website I have created three button on the top of the screen. When you click these buttons it will load the content of the topic. Basically I'm thinking of using an external text file to update the news and rants content on the site. How would I create content that loads when a user clicks on the the buttons. To do this would I have to create extras SWF'S and load up the content with external text files or is there an easier way to do this in Flash MX. Any hints, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Searching Content In A Flash Site
Alright guys, my client wants a corporate looking site for his IT companty in flash, but he want the content to be searchable by both search engines and by the "search site." Now I'm not talking about searching for just the meta tags or anything, I mean if someone wants to search for "server accounts" and his site comes up in the search, the link'll take you to that part of the site and not to the main page where the movie is first loaded. So I guess a simple question would be can you search the content of a/multiple flash movies?

Flash Site Won't Display New Content...
I just finished my first Flash MX site, and I use external text files to hold all the data that's designed to be updated now and again (like news articles, etc.) - the trouble is, Flash won't recognise the new content, and even force-refreshing the browser to reload the movie won't change this. Is there a specific piece of code I need to put in the button which loads the text file in order to get it to check whether the document holds new content? Or even forces it to reload the document each time?

I need to make a site 100% in flash but this site has to be update by the client.
So my is how to add more pages to the site with a content manager?
I read the forums and i understand how to dynamic create more menus without any problem with a CMS using xml, i also know how update a specific part of the site. i mean i can create dynamic text fields and update them with no problem also using xml. Well i can update fields that allready exists on the flahs it self. but in case that my client decide to add a new menu.. it has to redirect to a specific frame where the content of that specific theme is but if it don't exist.. what can i do?
anyone explain me how to do that?

SEO Seing The Content In My Flash Site
Hi,
I was wondering if there is any way to use AS3 to make the text content in my flash website be seen by SEOs... can I somehow make the text in my flash document html based... maybe by using .xml or so? another soluton is to link the content to an html page.. the problem being that my websites menu is purely done with flash, including an intro animation, so if you'd hit the back button it would have to root right to the menu page and not show the animation again.... plus i coudlnt have the text content open up through an animation, like lines sliding appart to crate the text window, etc..

please let me know what tips you guys have, it would really help!

Flash Content Not Visible On Site
I have a small flash movie like an ad on a static web page. The problem is that the flash movie appears fine locally... but once the web page and the flash movie are uploaded to my linux server, the flash content is no longer visible on that site. I earlier had the same webpage on a windows server and it worked fine on it. All i have done is just transfered it onto my linux server.

Content Managed Flash Site - How To?
Hi all

I'm considering building a music label site in flash but my client needs to update on a regular basis. Would I be shooting myself in the foot if I decided to go down this route.

I know nothing about Flash and content management so could anyone point me in the right direction to find out more or even better if you've actually built a CMS Flash site tell me how you went about it and how your client has got on with it.

Flash To Protect Site Content?
Can I use Flash to protect site content? Here's what I mean...

I'm going to be created a database of English words. For each word, there will be an audio recording of the word spoken, 3 example sentance (past, present, and future tenst), a definition in English and Japanese, the Japanese equivalent word, etc, etc...

Anyway, I want to protect that, as I'll be creating an online subscrption service to Japanese people looking to learn a bit of English (don't worry, it will be extremely low price, like $2 a month or something, not sure of the exact cost).

I'm assuming Flash can play audio files that are not embedded into the swf, correct? If so, if someone got ahold of that swf, the audio wouldn't play for them, correct?

Also, if I make the text non-selectable, and pulled from an external file (probably xml), then they cannot copy the text right? And again, if they managed to get ahold of the swf, the text would not be available, correct?

I realize that they could simply type the text into their favorite text editor, but I'm banking on people being lazy...

Flash Site ---> Site Created In DW Menu
And the journey continues.... Alright... I've settled on converting a flash site to a website menu. Thus far, I've deleted the portion that I don't need and have shrunk the height of the document. However, there is a nice little dot smack dab in the middle of the original document size. I've done a test run and it only shows that the top portion (which is what I want to convert too .swf and export into DW) is there and nothing else. But that little red dot has me concerned... sorta like it's a secret button that's gonna raise hell later on down the line. LoL!

Does anyone know what's going on w.that thing and if it is likely to cause problems? Also, do you know of any good tutorials on making a swf serve as a menu in DW?

Update Flash Projector Content From A Web Site With A Button?
Hi there-

I'm using Flash CS3 (but not too familiar with AS3) to create a projector file for a USB memory stick to be distributed at a conference to all attendees. I'm looking for a way to update some of the content on the memory stick with the click of a button.

For example, a user plugs in the stick, clicks "update" and the projector file communicates with an online source (my server) to load an XML database, a text file, a directory of images, etc. dynamically rather than off of the stick.

It would be fantastic if clicking the button simply downloaded a file or directory and replaced a file on the memory stick. Is that possible? Anyone have any ideas?

Squeezing The Flash Site To 2X2 Inch With All Content Showing
Hi,

the cool thing about this site is thta if you drag and make your browser window big, the site also scales and if you really make the size of teh window small so that you can see a window of size 2X2 inches... you can still see the content of the site!!

How can we do this, so that shrining the size of browser also shrinks the site so that all the content is visible at all times!!! is this something to do with flash, actionscript, html, javascript or what?

Can someone please tell or give resources where it explains how this can be achieved? I would love to do it for my site!!

Taskbar In Flash - Any1 Seen?
Hey all,

Has anyone seen any examples of someone recreating a taskbar style system in Flash (pref MX)? Im working on an App where users will be able to open notes and info popups in Flash, and I would like them to be able to minimize them to a taskbar at the bottom of Flash, and later be able to click on them to re-activate them. I'd like to see how Flash handles anye existing examples before I write my own.

Site Architecture - FLASH Menus Driving HTML Content?
I'm not quite sure if this is the best FORUM for this question...but...here it is -

My question revolves around the conventions used when employing FLASH menus that are designed to navigate through HTML content.

The architecture I’m most familiar with is the use of HTML FRAMES to implement this type of structure. One frame receiving the .swf menu, the other/s receiving HTML content dictated by the FLASH menu.

I’m wondering if there are any other approaches to this type of layout that differ form the technique described above. If so, what would they be and how are they implemented.

The other aspect to this question is how the set up a FRAMES document to be search engine compatible; i.e. to ensure that the FRAMES document that carries the content pages (the holder for lack of a better description) is the page that becomes the URL registered rather then the documents that contain the content. This seems to be a problem with this type of architecture. I’m wondering if anyone has a clue how to work around this situation.

How To Update Text Content In Flash Site Without Having To Use Flash?
I am using Flash CS3 to build a website for a band. When finished, I want to hand the site over to them and leave it up to them to update the (mainly) textual content such as news and tour dates. Is there a way they can do this easily without any knowledge of Flash? I've heard that Flash can pull information from a linked text file some how.

Flash Menu Overlaps Content
i have an estore where the main menu is done in flash.. however even if the menu isn't expanded, the user will still not be able to click the content under the transparent flash.. this seems to be an error only in firefox.. any suggestions?

Targetting Frame Content From Flash Menu
I have built a site which separates into upper and lower frame in html.
The upper frame is linked to a swf file as a menu, and the bottom is the info space. So my question is, is it possible to control the bottom frame content from the flash menu in the upper frame? If so, how should I do it?

Any1 No How To Set Up A Graphic Equalizer On A Flash Built Media Player?
hey im new to the forum and pretty new to flash so hi every1 first off!

my problem is that im building a media player in flash which just plays mp3's. im using xml coding to get the data displayed and played in the media player but it looks a bit plain with just txt and not very interactive to a user i was wondering if there is any way i can add some maybe an 8 or 12 band equaliser to it so its slightly more interactive for a user?

I've tried using Z-index values on both the flash and CSS divs but no use.

I have flash menu which i use in Dreamweaver.My website layout is in tables in Dreamweaver. I learnt how to use getURL to navigate menu buttons to change content for certain framesets. However Frameset are HELL! to resize.

Ok Ive been told to make my entire site in Flash, but b4 I do, was told I can use a Javascript to swap image on my HTML page.

I know this sounds long winded and pain. I'm more interested to see if there is a solution. Even if you all say convert to flash website design. which i will.
I would be over the moon if some1 can solve this...as many other forums has no idea.

Flash Content Overlapping Flash Menu
Need Help with Flash Content Overlapping Flash Menu in different frames!

Hello,

I am working on a church's website where they have a non-editable design template as the main framework of all the pages of the website, but the main content frame of the pages are editable.

I created a new flash movie for one of the pages, and embedded it in there, but now, the flash menu that comes with the template gets hidden by my movie, making it very difficult to navigate AWAY from the page after my movie loads.

What do I do to make my movie go to the bottom layer and any menu animations be displayed above my movie. I am a newbie so I am not sure if I am using the right lingo to describe my problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or need to clarify anything to understand what I am saying

I just noticed that it displays perfectly fine in IE 7 ... and I encountered the problem while viewing in Firefox - this makes me feel a lot better, and leads me to beleive that it is a inconsistency between how IE and Firefox reads the HTML .... is there anything I can do to have firefox process the HTML correctly?

Help With Flash Menu/site
Hello,

A website we are currently doing for a client: http://bekdesigns.com/HBA/hbatask/index.php

We have a flash menu. Below the flash menu, we are unable to highlight any of the text. At least half way down the page that is. We finally were able to click some of the links via Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox.

Does anyone know any type of fix to have it work completely fine in both browsers? We have tried overlays, and anything else we can think of. We might be forced to just do a DHTML menu, but we dont want to resort to that if there is a fix we can do.

Any help is appreciated.

Flash Site/menu Problem
Hey everyone!
It's been awhile since I was around, but I'm working on my first full flash site and am getting frustrated with a problem. I'm relatively new to flash, so it frustrates me when I'm stuck like this. I downloaded some tweens and messed with some of their .fla examples to learn some things. I combined this with a tutorial I found here and now I have a problem.
The animation for the menu is working fine and one of the buttons works correctly. When I click it my movie clip for that page comes up. (I have place holders now, not the actual page since I'm figuring out things before I go on) This is encouraging b/c at least something is right there. But none of the others will work that way when I click. I've checked my actionscript and it appears identical to me, so I can't find out where my problem is. I was hoping someone could take a look at what I have and offer some suggestions??

I know this must be a very basic one, but I search the forum and I got so many pages with the key words I used ... so after I read some, I coundn't find what I was looking for.

I have my menu in flash, some flash buttons and I want to add some links to these buttons in order to go to some links like: index.php, links.php, contact.php.

I try with getURL from Actions ... but ....

Flash Menu Problems On Site
Hey! I'm no genious at flash, but i hope someone here is because i can't find any support in any online forum relevant to my question.

on my website, www.sednaband.com, there is an iframe with a flash menu at the top. its been working fine lately, but just now (and everytime i refresh it), it is black. i cant get it to appear. i thought that i may need to compress the file to get it to load faster (im on a t1...) ..

heres the thing i cant figure out. when i right click on the movie, it says "Find out more about flash 5" ... flash 5? i have 7. when i go to other sites (that have flash) and right click over their swf's, it says 7, also.

i also took the html code directly from another site that it worked on and it's still doing the same thing.

did i forget to do something with the publish settings?

Flash Menu With HTML Site - Question?
So here's what i'm doing... I'm putting together a site that contains two separate flash menus. One up top and one on the side. The content is in the middle, and is HTML. I'm NOT using frames, just tables.

Now. I made the buttons on the flash use the GETURL function, which works fine. Except one thing. The flash movie reloads everytime, and doesn't "know" what page it's at.

Normally when you build a site with flash completely, you can tell the menu system to disable certain buttons when you are on a certain page.

Is there anyway to pass variables through html and tell the new loading movie to goto a certain frame, so that i can't click on HOME when i'm at HOME?

Any help is appriciated...

[CS3] Integrating Flash Menu In Html Site
Hi i have a dynamic flash menu that has been scripted to have functioning current page indicators. This is great when using a full flash site, but as most people know dynamic menus in typcial html sites need a little extra work to function properly, as each "button" uses the get url for each respective page in the site..im pretty sure?.
So here is my question is there some java script or css or a hack that i can use in order for the current page indicators to work...because as it is now, the swf is re-loaded on each page to the nav's default load state which is page 1 button lit up, then when you go to page 2 for example its just going to reload that same swf again...Hopefully someone understands what i am getting at

Pieces Of My Flash Menu On My Site Are Dissappearing...
I have a website that I'm making and I'm having a BIG problem with my flash menu. I've created the site using HTML & CSS but the navigation menu is done in flash. For some reason - certain pieces of my flash menu are invisible.

Here's some more information that may be of use...

- the content in the FLA file actually is wider than the movie itself (movie width is 152, content is about 10 pixels wider...)
- I'm using a jpg background in the flash file.
- same problem using Firefox and IE.
- content has issues running on IIS AND Apache servers.

Any ideas? Or has anyone ever experienced a similar dilema?

EDIT: I went through my flash file and saw that one of the frames didn't have a STOP command. So I'm assuming that the file is playing in an endless loop. I added a stop command to the frame in question and now it looks GREAT, but only in Firefox. I still have the same problem in IE.

EDIT: Added some more to my flash file, but made sure that the movie does STOP when I want it to - still having a problem with stuff disappearing!!!! In both firefox and IE again.

[hybrid Site] - Passing Var To Flash Menu
this has definitely been addressed before, just couldn't find that thread.

anyway, i'm working on a hybrid site, the flash menu is a kind of complicated, and the client doesn't like frames, so i have to jump from one page to another, therefore loading the same flash everytime.... you probably already what my question is, how do i pass a var to the same flash every time the page loaded? thus, i can show visitors the cooresponding correct menu?
