How do I use an embedded font and html in one textfield??? The way I do it now nothing shows up.

Flash Font Probs
We have several Flash lisences and routinely pass source code around. Multiple people work on each file. Sometimes, even though we each have the same fonts installed on our machines, the fonts will change to arial, even though clicking on them shows that they are the correct font in the text panel. We have to change them to something else and then change them back to see the correct fonts.
Anybody know a fix for this bug?

Font Probs Mac
I am unable to get my flash mx to recognize a font, '3hourtour'. I used it without problem with flash 5 (MAC) and now have not been able with several reinstalls of the font (which works with other apps) been able to get anywhere. It's a big project and I'd like not to redo all the typography...Any ideas?

I am currently working on a project combining html and flash. Every submenu in my menusystem (html) will load its own SWF. If i embed a font to one of the SWFs i would be happy if i didnt have to embed it to all the other swfs since this would generate alot of downloadingtime for the viewer.

Anyone Know Flash CS3 Embed Font's Glyphs Range With Font Class(no TextField )
I have add some font by Font class in the library
(TextFeild.embedFonts=true)
but the font's glyphs looks not enough.

Font.hasGlyphs also return false;

How To Separate The Bold Style Of A Font In The Flash Font List.
Hello!
Im working on a project that has font names coming from xml.
The thing is, when the font is set to Luxury Text Bold from xml, flash cant find the font and displays nothing
The font file exists with the name, but flash will only show one in the font list (Luxury Text).
On a mac it displays separate styles too.
How would I fix this?

PS. tried publishing on a mac, but there were other issues then
edit: this problem would be solved in CS4, you can select styles when opening a document which has fonts whose names dont exactly match the ones on your pc etc. You can now select alternate styles there, inability to do so in CS3 actually caused the problem in the first place.

Flash Application Font-Face And Font-Style
This is a similar thread to one I posted earlier but this one is more detailed to explain my problem
Does anyone know how to change the programs font-face, font-size, font-style etc ... of the console? I'm referring to all of the outer workspace area, not the stage.

See the panels on the right side? Swatches, Character, Sound panels. On my computer, the font size for these words and for everything inside these panels are microscopic. They are so small it can't be read unless you stare at it for a while.
How do I change the font size or face for these fonts?
Now you see the top of the screen, where it says "File Edit View Insert Modify Text Control Window Help"? All of these font sizes are perfectly normal just like everything on my computer. I also use Adobe Photoshop CS 8.0 and the panel window fonts are perfect as well as everything else, so I know that it is a problem only with my Flash 5.0.
I would appreciate any help you guys can give me, as it takes me forever to work on a project, I have to stare for a while to figure out what the panel text says.

Flash MX And IE6 Probs
Any1 encountered the below problem....?
setup::::Internet Explorer 6(on WIndows XP)and using MX.
Problem:::When viewing a flash clip on-line which is loaded into a popup window, no preloader is shown.
Only a white screen is visible which eventually starts flash clip when fully loaded.
All worked ok untill I installed XP and MX...who is to blame???????
Probs With Flash 8
Hello Everyone, im new to the board and also very new to using flash.
I have a problem that i need some assistance with if possible. Im trying to import an image from Windows paint (bmp file) into flash 8 but im finding that flash rather than just displaying the image i drew it also shows that white background behind it, is it possible to have flash just simply show the image drawn and not the background? Is there a way to make the background transparent? Sorry im so green to flash,any help offered would be great.Horace

Hi guys im new to the forum and also new to using flash. Im having a problem importing images from windows paint into flash 8. I draw a basic figure in Windows paint and save it as a bmp.file, then i import it into flash to use as a symbol to animate but rather than importing just the figure it shows the white background behind it as well. Is it possible to make this background transparent? I ve made a basic scene (ie.ground,sky trees etc) and now i just want to posistion my figure on this background but the white background of the imported figure file is showing. sorry if this is an obvious question but any help would be great.cheers Horace.
XML -> Flash -> ASP Formatting Probs

I have a flash site where i load articles from xml into flash. From here there is a printable view window which can be opened which sends the text from flash to asp. The formatting is fine in Flash (not HTML text). However, the are no carriage returns / new lines when passed onto the asp page, although all other characters are fine.
I imagine its an encoding problem, but havent found a way round it yet.

Flash Probs In Netscape.
Hi,
I having Netscape problems(7.1) getting a java dropdown menu to show over the top of a flash banner loaded in an iframe.
At present it appears to drop down behind the flash movie...
In Explorer I got around this by embedding the swf with a trasparent background. But noy joy in Netscape.
Has anyone come across this?

Flash 8 And NTLM Probs
Im using the latest Firefox and Flash 8 under Windows 2003 Server to upload multiple files to my awaiting ASP.NET v1.1 .ASPX page. I can connect directly to the web app (with a GET request) and there is no prob but when the flash object goes to POST to the same URL the authentication dialog appears asking me to log in. I eneter in the correct info and still nothing happens. Uploaing never occurs. With IE6+ this problem doesnt seem to occur, or at least not as often as Firefox.
I think from inspecting the HTTP headers there is a NTLM header not being sent by the flash object. I experienced something similar with ASP.NET not receing its authentication cookie when the flash object did a POST and so maybe this is related -- Flash just doesnt replicate all the browsers header info to be sent to the server.
For multi file uploading im using: flash.net.FileReferenceList
thanks for any ideas. I've attached my flash .fla code to this message. If it makes a difference the object is being used on a Sharepoint site and the .ASPX page and object itself already has its NTFS security settings set to everyone.

I'm currently making a flash movie to use a screensaver. The problem is that I have a button that opens a link from the screensaver, I need this button to also close the screensaver (it closes on a keypress normally). I've tried putting fscommand("quit","") in with the button, but it has no effect, the screensaver still stays on, does anybody know of another way that I could exit the screensaver? Maybe by simulating a key press through AS (which I have no idea how to do)?

Flash Cache Probs?
im loading an external flv file into flash wich plays great but if i go back to the menu and try to load the same movie again it wont load the movie. if i wait a while then load it again it works so it seems the file is in memory is there a waya round this?
ive even tried laoding it in a seperate swf movie and unloading it but that doesnt work. as i cant reload the original move because it needs to stay on the same menu before.
any ideas?

Flash CD - Caching Probs
Hi All,
I have created a flash presentation with some intro videos and then off to an interactive presentation.
My problem is that it works beautifully from the hard drive but the movies don't load very quickly and do odd things off the CD.
I've tried loading a movie and preloading the one to play after that and so on but still not working out great.
Does the DC-rom speed have much impact? any tips or suggestions?
Any advice?

Fireworks To Flash Exporting Probs....
I was wanting to import some images I made in fireworks into flash. However, whenever I do I always seem to import some of the background too...
Ive tried trimming the canvas but it never trims close enough, I've tried turning the background to
the same colour as my movie, but I wanted a small amount of over lap so that won't work, Ive tried putting the background to transparent but the imported file still seems to be white around the outside, I also tried cutting and pasting but for some reason the image gets chopped in half and swapped around....
With both being macromedia products I guess it is easy enough to sort out but damned if I know how....
Any help would be great

Video Looping Probs In Flash MX
Hi everyone,
I've got an external movie being called into a main site movie. In the external movie is a QT video imported onto the main timeline, along with its own soundtrack.
Preloader content is in frame 1.
The movie is initialized in frame 2 with a play/pause button and plays video when user presses play. At end of the video there is a gotoAndStop (2) action, which should reset the movie, everything's initialized again, and wait for the user to start it off again if they want.
Except... the video continues to loop but without the soundtrack.
I'd appreciate it if anyone has got any ideas or knows any good tutorial places for this kind of thing.
I'm on WinXP.

Severe Probs With .swf And Flash Player 6

either my computer is playing with me or then i'm facing problems with flash player.
i cant see any flash-animations in net. i've downloaded the flash player from macromedia site over five times now, and .swf-files still stubbornly refuses to show.
i use opera 6.06 and 7.03 browser and ie6, all have the same problem.
when updating my pages with dreamweaver, the preview in browsers show animations correct, but when uploaded nothing shows up. hard to update pages when no idea what people can see there
check kokokuva.com, if you can see something moving in the main page then the problem is in my end of cable.
anyone else been through same kind of problems?

Flash Movie Load Probs.
On my site I have flash files which link to other flash files...I have recently noticed that when I click a link to another flash file on my site it loads the file on the current page I am in, instead of going to the file and then loading it. How do I fix this? It renders my preloaders useless and it makes viewers on my site wonder why the thing the clicked isnt doing anything. I know this was not a problem when I had a ton of html files to acompany my flash files...but I have changed my site to not have all those html files. I have a single iframe to which I link each flash file to another..What is the proper way to link them to each other?

Macromedia Captivate Probs With Flash
I have been trying to import a captivate file to flash, and so far so good. I have it on the flash file, but the problem is that the audio quality when in flash is horrible.
I have looked at flashes output quality, and it is pretty good.
My question is really more towards the captivate side, since it seems i am missing something. I have changed the quality to CD quality in captivate, but still the quality is horrible.
Anyone know?
Tweening Prototypes For Flash 8 Probs
Did a search and couldn't fidn anything.
I downloaded the http://laco.wz.cz/tween/ extension, but when i went to install it in flash 8, it spewed up a
"The extension package is invalid. The extentsion will not be installed"?
I have extension manager 1.7, and the documentation that is available says it needs 1.6 with mx2004. I have read that that people have been using it with Flash 8.
Can someone please indicate what i need to do to get it to work.

Formatting Probs With Flash Input Text?
Hi, just wondering if anyone could help...
I have generated a flash form which uses input text boxes to write data into an access database. However, when tested in a browser, the text entered into the fields appears to be double-spaced, and the font size is much larger than it should be?? Some of the smaller boxes don't even seem to allow text to be entered - even though they are significantly larger than the text which should occupy them.
Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Probs Using Bitmaps In Flash MX (image Quality)
Hi, Whenever I use bitmaps in flash MX, (especially when I load them into an empty mc seperately) the quality of the image suddenly turns awfull. It gets all blury and pixely.. I've tried setting the jpg quality to 100% in the publish settings but this doesn't help...
Anyone got any ideas?

Probs Resizing The Flash 8 FLVPlayback Component
I'd like to use the FLVPlayback component, and I see that it defaults to 320 by 240. I'd like the video to be smaller, so I resize the component. However, what happens is that while the video itself is smaller, the playback controls do not become smaller. Is there a way to make the playback controls smaller along with the video?

Flash Video - Probs With NetStream.onMetaData
So i have created a video player and have noticed something about the onMetaData function. I have a path to the videos as a relative path to my .swf file ( myPath = 'media/'; ) and when i test my movie, the onMetaData function does not get called. However, when everything is online, or being pulled from an absolute path ( myPath = 'http://www.mydomain.com/media'; ) it is called.
I was just curious as to why that is...?
Random Movie In A Flash File Probs.
I'm trying to place a movie clip in a Flash animation but have it appear randomly. It is a tree moving past the moon. I want it to seem real, so having it constantly move in a repeated pattern would not be good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Probs W/ Advanced Tabbed Navigation (flash)

I bought The Flash Anthology and went straight to Chapt. 2 (Navigation Systems) to try out the advanced tabbed navigation exercise.
I've run into a couple problems, perhaps I've missed something.
In my first attempt I got the tabs to go up and down as needed on mouse over and mouse out. I still never saw any text (I later found out the text was white on a white background). Did I inadvertantly set the text color to white somewhere? NOTE: I hand copied the AS from the book.
On my second attempt, the text shows up fine but the tabs do NOT rise when moused over. NOTE: here I tried to save some time and copied the AS from the code archive and pasted it into my actions panel. Since the sample tabs.fla file works perfectly, I thought copying this code would give me the same result. If I've added all the pertinent AS, why won't the tabs move when moused over? Help is much appreciated.

how do i mask an attached movie clip(mc called by attachMovie())?
what i mean by this is... i know how to create a mask layer. this mask layer works for all mcs that i dragged from the library. but this mask layer does not to work with mcs i called using the code "attachMovie()". i think it is becuz the depth of the attached mc is on top of that of the mask layer... but since i am create the mask layer on the main stage i cannot make it on top of any attached mcs... any replies are greatly appreciated. thanx in advance

For all the fonts I have, how can I tell if they are Pixel/Flash fonts or not ??
I have unfortunately created my very first Flash site not realizing that not all fonts work well with Flash presentations - The current font ( Zurich ) I am using makes the text look fuzzy and faded.
I do have other options, but how can I tell if a particular font is a Pixel/Flash font ??

Font Usage Question (Hoping For Advice And Recommendation On Chinese Font)

1st of all, thank you for reading this post.
I've been assigned to develop my first flash chinese website (Translating it from the english version which is also flash) Technically using back 100% of fla files of eng ver.
Im loading text into dynamic textbox from .xml files. I understand .xml needs to set to UTF-8 etc and technically it's showing up.
On my 1st attempt, i went for _sans / _serif and paste in the text from microsoft word. I notice _sans _serif font cant use bitmap text option and the font appears really blurry.
I took my friend advice in going for Mingliu font, as he told me that anyone that can view chinese font on a pc should have Mingliu font (somehow universal)
Embedding anything is totally out of the question, as you know embeding chinese font will skyrocket the swf filesize.
So I was hoping for some advice. Objective will be get the file size as normal, font looks sharp and crisp.

Font Mapping (default Font Not Found Error)

This ain't abig problem, but is annoying as hell.. never bothered to post anythin here before about it.. and I can't figure it out.
When I open my site, it says font not found, use default or font mapping. I duno what font isn't found.. haha I can' remember deleting any of them off my computer.
Anyways, When I go to font mapping and change it to another font, everytime I open flash it still gives me the error, no matter how many times I change it.
How can I fix it?

Embedding Font And Dynamic Html Text -> Font Is Gone

I've been searching all over this forum and searched on Google for an answer to this question but can't find an answer that works to me.
I have some dynamic textfields and I retrieve the data from a databases. Each textfield has a handwritten font which I embed using Character Options in the Text Properties. That works fine.
The problem is, when I check the 'Render as HTML' checkbox and send simple HTML-tags to it, the html-tags still work but the handwritten font is gone! I really tried lot of things but it really doesn't work to me.
I really hope someone can help me. I really appreciate it!

I know the solution for this can be solved by using Pixel fonts instead, and by using some tricks (0,0 coordenates, no resizing MC comprising text, avoid even font sizes, a few parameters in Publish Settings, etc.).
However I quite don't understand the following behaviour:
If I load some dynamic text (and I don't use a pixel font, i.e. Century Book which I import to my library) when I include the range of characters in the Character dialog (on the font properties) the quality of my text decreases a lot and it becomes really ugly. If I DON'T include any character or range of characters in the Character Dialog, then the text is more readable and looks fine...Why?
I thought the anti-aliasing problem always happened to all non-pixel fonts, however it does not happen here (except when I include a range of characters to be embedded).
I see I must choose among these four things:
1- Publish settings to Low Quality so that anti-aliasing is not applied to my MC...Not a solution..text even looks worse, not to mention the rest of my MC which is full of moving curves..
2- Change the Font set (not good for my project).
3- Include the required character ranges, despite the ugly quality of text.
4- Don't include any character range...but if somebody does not have the Century Book Font on system, I won't have control about what he's actually seeing...which is not very professional..
What can I do? Any suggestion or solution? What would you do?
I also would like to know the reason of the above mentioned behaviour, does anybody know why is it like that?

Font Usage Question (Chinese Font Advice)

1st of all, thank you for reading this post.
I've been assigned to develop my first flash chinese website (Translating it from the english version which is also flash) Technically using back 100% of fla files of eng ver.
Im loading text into dynamic textbox from .xml files. I understand .xml needs to set to UTF-8 etc and technically it's showing up.
On my 1st attempt, i went for _sans / _serif and paste in the text from microsoft word. I notice _sans _serif font cant use bitmap text option and the font appears really blurry.
I took my friend advice in going for Mingliu font, as he told me that anyone that can view chinese font on a pc should have Mingliu font (somehow universal)
Embedding anything is totally out of the question, as you know embeding chinese font will skyrocket the swf filesize.
So I was hoping for some advice. Objective will be get the file size as normal, font looks sharp and crisp.

Combo Box For Font Size And Font Style
Hi all
I'm creating a text formatting toolbar. So far I've create most of the buttons including bold, italic and so on.
I've attempted to create two combo box to hold the font sizes and font syles but when one works another one it doens't .
I think the problem is with _root.onEnterFrame(); but i've no idea how to solve the problem. Even though this code doesn't do exactly one I want. Because it applies the change to the entire text area instead for the selected one.

Embed Font Symbols And Font Size
Hi all, i've been playing around with embedding fonts and have a query.
It is very important to tick the correct bold and italic boxes for your font in the library, but does the size field make any difference?
I couldn't for instance see any difference between arial 24 embeded as arial 12 and arial 12 embeded as arial 24. Does anyone have an reason to think the library text size is important?

Font Problem - Embedded Font Won't Work..
I've embedded a font into my library and gone in and setup the linkage to export
to ActionScript and and Export in first frame, and I've followed several tutorials for link embedding.
Yet still my font won't show up.
Is it possible that some fonts can't be embedded?
The font i'm trying to embed is a free font called Transponder AOE.
Need A 16pt + Pixel Font ? Also - Font Outlines?
Hi there,
firstly, im trying to include my font outlines on my dynamic text box - but when i view the file, its all squashed up, not how it is meant to be (By using the character button, and including uppercase and lowercase).
Does this mean that it cant export my font (as per the help file - some fonts cant be exported).
Also - does anyone know of a nice, clean, crisp looking free font which will work good around 16pt ?

Font Now Showing Up In Font Selection List?
I am working on a project that I am using the font Bernhard Modern Std in. I used the font in my Photoshop mockup and need to use it in flash. My problem is it is not showing up in my font list in flash to select it. It is a open typeface and I am not understanding why I don't see it listed in my font list in Flash8 to select it. I need to use this font because the client is expecting it to be used. How can I get it to show up in flash to use it? I am on a PC also.
