Flash Form And File Size

I notice that when i create i new Flash Form app in MX pro that the file size starts out quite big.

I create a new form app, and then publish the "empty" fla ... the resulting swf file is just under 50KB!! ... the size report shows that just about all of that is action script classes.

Is there anyway to reduce the file size, or is the only way to use the time timeline with key labels?

Thanks in advance for any comments

Why Use Flash Video When It Bumps The File Size To Outrageous Size?
I have imported a flash video into my flash movie. I have run the .mov in sorenson squeeze and have it nice and small. As soon as I import it into flash (because this is the only way I know to do it in order to run a video in flash) now I have 1024 frames and a HUGE .swf file.

So what is the point to using flash at all...or am I doing something wrong. Is there a better way to handle video within flash??

Thanks

Scene File Size Huge Compared To Seperate Movie File Size?
I have a flash movie with multiple swf files imported into different movieclips throughout. Each of the imported movieclips is a seperate scene of the original movie. The thing I found out is that if I copy all the frames of scene 2 for example, and paste them into a new movie. Then publish the new movie as a swf. The file size is much smaller than the scene 2 swf when published from the original movie. Does anyone know why?

Flash Xml File And File Size?
I have a flash animation that pulls in images using an xml file. I was
wondering if the images must all load first? In other words, the images
are timed to load at different times. I was thinking, when I did this,
that the images would not be downloaded until they were called but I am
starting to doubt this.

Anyone have any idea how these images are loading?

Basically, my main concern is that they are putting too much load on the
homepage. I have a feeling I know what the answer is.

Thanks

Flash File Size
Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the maximum .swf filesize is to upload.
Assuming I created a rather big intro it really would be helpful to decrease the filesize for saving upload time.
Are there any tips 'n tricks to shorten the loading of a site?
Tx in advance!

What File Size Is Too Big For Flash On The Web?
What is considered standard and what is considered too large a file size for typical all Flash Web sites? I've heard <150k is good to shoot for. Does this sound reasonable?

Flash Help - File Size
i have a flash website which is too big for easy acess for standard/slow internet connections

i would like to know if there are any tools in Flash 8 that would allow me to see what is taking up so much space on my website, and if not are there any external tools that could scan the .swf file to see what is so big

Flash File Size
hi, im pretty new to flash and having a bit of a problem. i am not entirely sure how big the file size should be for a flash site.
ive produced a flash website but when i simulate the download of the site the loader says the file size is 700506 bytes!!! which to me seems huge!!!
obviously when i simulate it at a speed of 56k speed which is normal dial up speed it takes like a minute or 2 for it to load, whereas at a speed of T1 it takes just several seconds.

My question then is, why is the file size so big?!!?
and does it matter that it is that big?!?!
therefore do i have to change the site to decrease the file size?!

i really dont have a clue how big the file size should be for flash, so if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated!
thanks

Flash File Size
I am currently working on content for a flash based animation site, so most of the people who visit the site may be expecting that it take a moment to load a cartoon. I know download speeds and people's patience vary, but am wondering what people would consider an acceptable file size for a flash cartoon download?

SWF File Size Flash 9
Can anyone tell me why a Flash 8 SWF file is half the size of a Flash 9 SWF file - both generated by the same FLA file? All the settings for the SWF file publication being identical - and even if the Flash 9 SWF file is saved as compressed but the Flash 8 file is not.
I tried saving the FLA file as Flash 9, then tried redeveloping the file in Flash 9, but no matter what I do, the SWF file from CS3 is nearly double that of exactly the same content in Flash 8.
The file has no embedded fonts (uses Ariel), but it does have big pictures. I think Flash 9 does not do as good a job at compressing the images in the SWF files.
This is a serious problem - why does it remind me of the huge file sizes produced by other Adobe products????
Boo hiss. Why did I waste my money on this? Why does Adobe buy and botch up great software?
I hope Adobe gets this fixed and fast!!!!

Flash File Size
I am designing a site that will have mp3's, photo gallary, and a page for guest book. Without those 3 pages the .swf file I have so far has a file size of about 500KB, and it's size will increase I know for sure. I know that a big portion of my audience will be using 56k modem for viewing the site. I want to know:
1) What would be the maximum file size I should have for my main site so that my viewers don't get bored looking at the preloader for minutes.
2) For mp3's, photo gallary, and guest book should I use seperate .swf and load them when users click on it.
3) Is there a tutorial where I can use a database and load the file when user wants to view a photo or listen to a song.

Thanks.

Flash Form Using XML File
Hi all!
I have Flash Movie that is a nice example of a simple flash form that can create, delete, edit data in an xml file. It is a todo list form. In my experimenting on how to learn how it was done I found that the data is not allowed to be changed or removed from the xml file when using the flash form to make the changes. The form itself was made to do so, but seems to be missing something. Is there a setting that I am missing to make the xml file changeable by the flash form? Or am I missing other files to allow the changes such as a *.php or *.asp? I am using Flash2004MXPRO. Since I am a noob to flash I figured I would rather ask then spend hours trying to figure it out.

Thanks

MX / Flash 5 Projector File Size
What's that mess with MX projector file size ? The same FLA file compiled to .exe with MX gives me a 947Kb file whereas compiled with Flash 5 it is only 543Kb (same file, same parameters, same all) !!!
The FLA file only have some JPEGs,no sound.
Do I missed something? Is that all due to the embed player ?

Flash MX File Size Issues
Hi all.

Can anyone here, explain how the working file size in Flash MX is accurately measured?

I have read that Flash struggles with files greater than about 50MB but, when I import a series of ping files as frames the memory usage in Task Manager can jump by 100MB or more without causing any problems (In tests at least).

The original files stored in a folder equate to just a few MB, so how do you keep an eye on file size, what are the considerations.

I can composite in AE (for video output) so this is not a serious issue, but knowing when to break a scene down in flash, before problems occur, is of course useful.

Also, I’m currently using Flash MX, does the latest Pro version offer any improvements regarding this issue.

Many thanks.

Flash Movie File Size
Hello,

I recently made one of my first flash movies, but have noticed that it is taking incredibly long to load. I have a preloader and all, but even on high-speed internet it takes longer than what I expected. Its horribly slow on modem (about 4 minutes). The file is 1.7 mB and I don't know how to decrease the size without affecting the final product. I reused all symbols and thought I was being conscious of it all. I need help, I'm just a beginner.

Here's the site:

Is There A File Size Limit In Flash?
This is the first year I am teaching Flash to my 7th graders. Many of them are creating fabulous animations. However, one student created a movie that is almost 13 MB and now it won't open at all. Flash starts to open and then just freezes because the file is so large. Is there a setting in the program that limits the file size? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

One thing I have not taught them (they really got much more into it than I expected!) is how to convert their drawings into symbols. I know this will save file size.

Flash 8 File Size Limit?
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a limit on the size of file you can use in flash 8. The file I am working on is very large and at the moment I make adjustments to it then will save turn off, make a back up, next day i can open the file but when I edit it it says error as I try to save?
I'm not having any problem's with any other flash files so I don't think it is the software flash 8. Very strange any ideas of what could be causing this and any solutions definately welcome!!

Thank you

[F8] Flash SWF File Size Problem
My SWFs really seem to be wayy over my size expectation.

Check this out :

I have a flash fla, it is 550x280, it has 10 frames, and 10 pictures (all .pngs from Macromedia Fireworks 3 and 550x280) and the file size is 183 KB with 'compress movie' and chucking out all the excess stuff on my library and 50 quality? WTF? And that too whitout any audio or video!
Am I missing something here?

Could someone explain about the fundamentals of reducing SWF size? what is the best format to import pictures into flash?
I was looking for something around 25 KB or sumthing. Any way to do that?

I have another FLA which has around 5 of these pictures, with a streaming audio and about 220 frames and that's just 109 KB. Flash is real weird sometimes. Please help

[CS3] Flash.exe File Reduces In Size.
Hello, my first posting!

I am putting together some Flash movies for a demo CD. These movies all work pefectly well on the website.

I have created a menu in Flash which calls a wmv file, a couple of flash.exe files (in an fscommand folder) and pdf documents when the appropriate buttons are pressed.

I am using the fscommand("fullscreen", "true"); command to make the menu full size. I do not want the movies, pdf documents etc to be full size.

The problem is that the menu runs fine, but when I click one of the buttons, whatever it is I click plays correctly (wmv, pdf or exe), but the menu reduces to its smaller size on the screen. Here's the strange bit: When I enlarge it again using the window fullsize button in the top right hand corner, the menu stays enlarged no matter what I press after that.

The question is obviously, 'What is causing it to shrink on the first click only and how do I cure it?'

Thanks very much for any tips.

How Does Flash File's Size Is Calculated
I had some unusual experience in working with flash. What I did is this

I had a flash file called file1.fla (file size was 13 MB). I wanted to develop similar animations so I copied it as file2.fla. I developed new movieclips using the old movieclips as in file1.fla (older movieclips were still there in the library). The file size of file2.fla then became 14.5 MB. Till this point it is okay for me.

Now I deleted the older movieclips in the library of file2.fla, and made sure that only required items are there in the library. After that I checked the file size of file2.fla. It was still 14.5 MB, no change. I even restarted the machine. Still there was no change.

However when I saved file2.fla as file3.fla the file size of the file3.fla was 10.5 MB?

So my question is how does flash file's size is calculated?

Any response will we be appreciated.

Shanky

How Flash File Changes Along With Window Size?
Hello flash experts:

I found some websites have a very big, clear background and some flash file sizes can be changed along with window size, for example: http://www.ruiliys.com/. Could you tell me how it can be accomplished?

Thanks!

Maximum File Size For Flash
I figured Senocular would have a max size in MB for a flash file, but I could not find it.

I have a 107 MB fla (lots of long voice over audio) and I think it's been compiling for 15 minutes

I saw a max of 16,000 frames but nothing on file size.

Any ideas? Or rule of thumb on preview times (2 GHz, 512 RAM)?

Also, any neato code to use to trace the total number of frames in a fla, including all movie clips?

Restrict Size Of Flash File
Hi,

Does anyone know how I can make sure the flash file, more specifically, the FLV file/Component to not resize in the browser?

Currently I have the file 320 X 240, but in IE when I resize the browser the flv file gets larger or smaller.

Anyhelp would be great.

1-If it's possible animate through actionscript

Unless you're going for your own unique style of frame-by-frame animating its not necessary to use tweening
example
You could use a motion tween moving an image across the screen and rotating it, the filesize for mine resulted in 18.6kb
Or you could animate the image using actionscript with a code something like like this

Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
this._x+=5
this._rotation+=10
}

The filesize for this resulted in 18.3kb which isn't actually a great drop but it helps alot when you use it in a large movie

2-Dynamically loading images/text

A useful function of the more recent Flash versions is the ability to dynamically loading images and text this saves filesize but can be quite difficult to use. I've never actually used this before so here is a tutorial I found
Quote:

Taken from http://www.flashcircle.com

1. Start a new movie -- mine had dimensions of 350x350 pixels.

2. Open the components panel by hitting ctrl+f7.

3. Drag 3 instances of the PushButton component on the stage, and select the first PushButton component in Frame 1.

4. The component's parameters are displayed in the Property inspector.

5. Type "hen" into the Property inspector Instance Name text box.

6. Type "call_Img" for the Click Handler name.

7. Type "Show Hen" for the Label name. Similarly, for other buttons, type:

-------------------------------------------------

ButtonName, LabelName, ClickHandlerName

-------------------------------------------------

(a). hen , Show Hen , call_Img

(b). cheetah , Show Cheetah , call_Img

(c). hen , Show Hen , call_Img

-------------------------------------------------

8. Select Frame1. Press F9 (Windows) to open the actions box.

9. Insert the action:

Code:
filejpg = function(picName)

{

//set the position of picHolder movie clip to center of stage

picHolder._x = 80

picHolder._y = 10

//Load the pictures

picHolder.loadMovie(picName);

}

function call_Img(name)

{

//Give correct path here

if(name == hen){filejpg("hen.jpg";}

if(name == cheetah){filejpg("cheetah.jpg";}

if(name == tiger){filejpg("tiger.jpg";}

}

//create a empty movie clip for holding the Jpg pics

createEmptyMovieClip("picHolder", 1);

That's all it takes! Before you test the movie, ensure that the pictures are in the same folder as the movie.

3-The "Call" action

A simple action which will repeat actions you have on one frame and uses it on another.

Code:
Call (["Frame Label"])

You must label the frame first and the frame must be loaded otherwise the call action will be ignored

4-Turn all items which are to be reused into symbols

This way the computer only needs to load it once and not on every frame that the item appears

Of course if your movie still runs very slowly then you can always just set the quality to low or reduce the quality of the sound

Flash Movie File Size
How come sometimes when I make a movie, the file size is pretty small, even when it's long, and other times (like my current one for instance), where I dont have that much stuff in it yet, but it's already huge! Is there a way to shrink the file size, making it easier to load/upload?
I have photos (bmp) that I converted into symbols, which I think could be a problem. However, I've done this before and the file size wasn't that big. Thanks for your help again!

Reducing Flash File Size?
Hello,

This is my first post here. I was reading the tutorial on reducing the Flash file size ( http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash5/filesize.htm ), and I reduced the size of all my photos within my .fla project as the tutorial states.

Almost all of the photos had a reduction of 4% to 20% of the original photo size, but when I exported the .fla to .swf, the .swf increased from 8.9 MB to 12.4 MB!

Can anyone shed any light as to why this would happen?

Thanks!
Brent

Minimizing Flash File Size
I'm wondering how do you guru's keep your advanced flash movies loading so fast. For example this site: http://www.2advanced.com/flashindex.htm

If I was to make that site, it would probabally take the site 2 days to load on DSL, but their site loads in seconds for me. Anyone happen to know why their site loads so quickly?

Thank you in advance for your replies

Concern Over Size Of .gif File, Looking To Use Flash...
Here is my GIF file...

http://defstatic.clickhost123.com/Im...ision_test.gif

What is supposed to sometime soon happen, is this "static" image to show, and then show a different image in replace of the "static", then go back to the static, and then another image, etc etc etc kind of like a television.

However, this "static" image is a large file size as it is, and if I went and did what I wanted to achieve, I am sure it would certainly double in size.

So it was suggested I do this in Flash. I was wondering if this is my best option and if the effect is easy to achieve in Flash.

Flash SOURCE (.fla) File Size
Just for you info

If you save a Flash file using the "Save" option, you will notice that your file slowly increases in size every time you save it, even if you leave roughly the same amount of data in the file or remove some of the data. It seems that Flash is keeping some kind of history of the file when you do so (you might find several versions of the same actionScript in the binary).

If you save a Flash file using the "Save As…" option, you will notice that your file size might actually go down (sometimes significantly). This is because Flash will actually wipe out all this extra information when you save as a different file.

This does not affect the size of published .swf's
