Hey everyone, especially newcomers-

I know from experience how when you need to know something you want it now, and I am as impatient as the next guy. (trust me) But more often than not it will actually be quicker for you to read thru the tutes and you will learn at a far faster rate. Check the tutes out and see whats there. Many answers will be right there and you will find them faster this way, more often than not anyways.

Everyone is eager to help as much as they can--but they also are looking for help as well with newcomers that need help. Learn what you can from the tutes, as it might be hours or longer before you get a reply anyways. Then whatever you don't get, ask about. And, as a courtesy, it is easier for me to say this than Dave, Pom or Kirupa cause Im not a mod---be eager to share and help others with what you have learned, so it is not always the Mods and the others that help, that do all the werk, cause it is werk to punch in a reply, and often times we do this and the person has fled the boards never to so much as respond to a reply that might have taken someone an hour to type out. Thats disheartening, as you can well imagine. Also, as has been said; MAKE SURE YOUR TITLE SAYS SOMETHING MORE THAN; 'PLEASE HELP ME NOW' BE DESCRIPTIVE AND THIS WILL DRAW A QUICKER RESPONSE. Why Are Most Of The Tutorials In Flash 4?
I was wondering why most of the tutorials in the getting started section are in flash 4, I have macromedia flash mx 2004 and some of the commands like modify>movie do not correspond to flash mx as they do in flash 4

I've seen alot of Flash tutorials on the web and some books but is there a tutorial online where a sample site is already built and shows how to build the site from scratch up? Flash Tutorials
I'm trying the pub menu tutorial (building your first flash app) in Flash 8.

I have created the imageHolder okay but when I create the slides and drag an instance of imageHolder into/onto slides the size of the instance is different from imageHolder.

My imageHolder is 700 x 150 as specified but when I drag it onto slides it is magically 885 x 203 and the "extra" part is not grey.

Any ideas, please?

Flash Tutorials
Hi Out there. Being a raw beginner I have downloaded a trial of Macromedia Flash 8 Professional. With this varsiom came a video tutorial about creating animated characters using the Cut out video method, which I am interested in.
However although the trial is for Flash 8 professional, the tutorial clearly states that it is for MX 2004. Will the instructions therin apply to both versions of Flash. Thank you for reading this and hopefully advises. Regards from Roy

Hi guys.
Well ive been searching the net and have found a fair bit of free flash 8 video tutorials.
But theres is not many covering things im interested in learning like how to make dynamic countdown clocks and stuff. and more so covering the things like assigning keyboard commands to load things like external movie clips or swf's.

If ne one knows where i can watch or download some free flash 8 video tutorials that cover that type of stuff couldu please let me know.
I find learning of video tutorials easier then exsploring a premade fla file.

Flash 8 Tutorials

I recently got the Flash 8 Trial and I'm having problems following the menus. I can't find the Modify - Instance Properties. heres the tutorial link for a simple text fade

I've searched all over and it seems all the site I've found do it this same way. Either the trial is limited, the menus have been moved or im just blind :'( but I can't seem to find this menu. Is there a site that uses Flash 8 for there tutorials instead of Flash MX or older?

Can't Launch Tutorials In Flash
Ya know how in Flash, Fireworks, etc. when you click the help menu to use the tutorials or the glossary or whatever it launches your browser and takes you to the macromedia site? Mine won't do that anymore. How do I get to the "Using Flash" on the site or is this a file that I have inadvertantly deleted from my computer?

I think it has something to do with my file type associations but I don't know what type it's trying to launch.

I'm using Windows 2K and my default browser is IE 6.0.

Any Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Buttons In Flash 5 Tutorials...
In Flash 5's tutorials they had buttons that went to the next page of the tutorial, the tutorials were in fla form. and the buttons were active even while editing the fla. Anyone know what I mean and know how to make buttons in the fla form?

Nothing I really need just would make my HUGE ass files with tons of variables easier to change all at once instead of one, by one, etc...
