Is there a catch to being able to buy the version of Flash MX for students? I mean getting $400 off for being a student... am I missing some ultra small print? I know that you can't use it for commercial uses. Guess you can't make websites with it and sell it right? hmm.

Please Help Me - Need File Saved As Older Version
Someone sent me a file and I'm supposed to modify it. I get an 'unexpected file format' error when I try to open it. I'm using Flash 8 basic. I am unsure as to what the original contractor used to make the file and apparently they can't get in contact with him to ask.

All I can think of is that it's a newer version. Can someone open this and save it as an older version for me so that I can open it in Flash 8 basic?

How Can I Tell The Difference Of A Educational Version VS A Commercial Version
I was wanting to see if any of you guys knew.
Can I tell the difference of a educational version VS a commercial version
of the flash 5 and dreamweaver 4 by looking at the cd's , before I buy them.

Like is there a special code on the outside of the cd's that shows the difference?

I want to make sure I dont buy a educational version.

Saved Old Game In Flash Mx And Now Doesn't Work
It has been years since I used flash and I have just finally decided to open up my flash mx. I know there is a learning curve, but I opened an old game in flash and saved it and now it doesn't work. I think that the problem is with the call library. Could someone look at my file? the file is 1880kb so I can't upload it. Saved MX 2004 File Does Not Go Into Flash MX?
Does anyone know of any patches I can get to remedy this? Most of our files are in MX, and I can open MX in MX 2004, but not everyone here has upgraded. If I change something in MX 2004, they can't open the file in MX...

How can I get a swf file to save a score/variables so that they can be picked up next time the CD is used.
For example: a score in a test taken on one day compared with a score from the same test taken on the nexday.

Flash Crash With Audio File Whenever Saved
Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone either knows if this is a common error or a way to fix it.

I'm making a flash animation that needs to be timed to an audio file about 3 minutes long. But every time I try to save the flash document with the audio file attached to a key frame, Flash freezes and I must force quit the program. Is there some sort of restriction on how large (file size) or long (time) an audio file can be in order for Flash to save a document with it? It seems to me that would be really silly, but I can find no other explanation of why it's freezing while saving. I tested saving flash documents without the large audio file and the program had no trouble.

and i tried to re-open them... but the stinking thing comes up blank.... no library files or nothing
but it's still saying that the file size is correct

Flash CS3 Trial Version -> Dreamweaver 8 Won't Work Anymore
I recently installed the trial version of Flash CS3. It worked fine, but after the 30 day evaluation period, Dreamweaver 8, an app I've had installed for a few years now ceases to work. It loads up, then immediately crashes. Prior to that, both apps worked fine concurrently.

I uninstalled the Flash CS3 trial version. Still, Dreamweaver 8 crashes.
I found the CS3Clean Script, ran that, and Dreamweaver 8 still crashes.

I'm positive this has something to do with the 30 day evaluation period, because I was using Dreamweaver fine yesterday.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I've tried re-installing Dreamweaver along with the 8.0.2 update and still get the same results.
I have Flash 8 installed already, if that helps.

Scrollbar Component Doesn't Work With Flash Player Version 5?

I've created a MC that contained a scrollbar component.

When I publish the swf down to flash 5 version (by choosing publish setting....), I was told that that featured is not supported on flash player version 5.

Any solution?
(it really must be played on flash player version 5 on my client's machines)

Interactive MP3/Educational Player Problems Making Work
I am really lost. I found this awesome flash player tutorial on gotoandlearn that plays mp3s in a list and has a play and pause and volume mute, FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

I modified and made it bigger, but kept the code the sam, intact.

What I need to add is

While it plays the MP3 I want the correlating frame that is being talked about to pop up on the screen, or what i really wanted was a dynamic scroller that scrolls through the text at the speed its being read.

i.e. while mp3 #1 plays, queue frame or scene 1.

when mp3 #1 ends, increment frame to jump to frame or scene 2, so the audio for frame 2 is playing.

I need to get this working ASAP, I have not worked in flash for a long time and dont have time to learn actionscript in a day.

any help would be much appreciated. Even a premade tutorial.

Hoping that the wisdom here can point me in the right direction. A client has two different SWF files and needs to know what version of flash was used to make each file?

Short of installing an old flash version and seeing if it will play, is there another way to tell what version of flash was used for a specific SWF file?

Something tells me this should be easy, but I can't find the answer...

Hello, I purchased Flash MX 2004 a few years ago as an educational version for about $100. Now I am cosidering putting some flash animations on my web site, though I'm assuming I will need a professional liscence for that. Without having to pay the full $700 for the new CS3, is there a way to just buy the lisence/upgrade my MX2004 version ot professional version?

My text on the txt. file on paragraph has an &. For example:
"Design and develop new innovative products by investing in R&D collaborating" When I type the & symbol it appears to my movie a space and the rest of the sentence disappears. What should I do in order to use the & symbol?

Anyone know how to check the version of the Flash program or plugin used in producing .swf via file properties?

Here's what happened.

I install Apreview.swf with the Flash.ocx (v7) and SWFlash.ocx (v5) using InstallShield. Then i install an old version called Bpreview.swf which has old version of Flash.ocx and SWFlash.ocx. Both swf works fine.

Problem now is when i install Cpreview.swf (suppose to be same version as Apreview.swf), Cpreview doesn't work. I'm suspecting the developer who did this used different version of Flash to produce Apreview.swf and Cpreview.swf, so I would like to check the version.

I don't have Flash installed on my PC and I'm not familiar with Flash.

Please help!

What's the process like? Is it something where you create actionscript codes that calls up an mpeg to a Flash interface and then allows the movie to be played within a Flash animation? What are some good websites (tutorial or gallery) to visit that focus on Flash and online streaming video?

Flash Player Version 10 Results Bad Timing Of TurboDemo Generatred Swf File
Our flash educational presentations are working bad in the latest Flash Player version (10). We made them in TurboDemo, and generated flash file, which could be run from our website. However with new flash player the preset timing of page turning does not work. It waits much longer, than the programmed timing. In earlier versions everything worked well, but know it's a disaster, which makes our numerous educational presentation un-enjoyable. The videos are just waiting for nothing for long seconds from page to page, which ruins the smooth flow of the presentation.

Can anybody help how can we fix this issue???

Embedding A Flash File (don't Know Version & Also Need To Avoid PC Warning Dialogues): What's The Latest Correct Way?
Problem: I've had a flash Christmas card created for a client by a designer. Before I can forward it to the client I want to embed it in a html page for them. The designer doesn't know how to do this (I wish I'd known before I commissioned them) and also told me they don't know what version of Flash created the file. They think it was 4 or 5. Eh? Whatever. I went to Adobe's site expecting that somewhere there would be a page providing the cut and paste code for this, but if there is such a page, it's impossible to find by an average person! So I tried cutting and pasting some code I found on a blog which discussed that Microsoft and created an update that caused all sorts of dialogue windows to appear before a flash file could be played e.g. "Click to activative this file", but that this new code would overcome them. Whatever. Pasted the code. Worked fine in a Mac browser, and on some PC browsers it didn't play, or the dialogue windows appeared and had to be clicked through before the file could be played. Am now officially tearing my eyebrows out. Could someone very kindly please paste or direct me to the embedding code that: plays a flash file of any version AND which overcomes any stupid PC dialogue windows. And Adobe: not everyone is a frigging navigational genius. Please put a link to this information on the first page of your Support page. Asking it as a question in the search box doesn't provide the simple answer!

Flash Player Caches Old Version Of SWF In Browser, Causing Incorrect XML Text File To

I'm trying to stop the Flash Player in a browser from caching my movie, I've tried various posted codes for the HTML and Flash SWF file, but nothing seems to work. This is the setup of my movie:

1) When the main movie starts (there is only 1 movie) I have an intro animation followed by text intro copy in the center of the stage. An ActionScript 2.0 created text field loads the text from an array of imported XML files, and places it in the center of the stage. Movie stops.

2) There are 4 buttons on each side of the stage. When you click each button the text in the center is dynamically replaced by passing another item from the array into the text field.

This script works perfectly in authoring mode. When uploaded to a server the text that appears in the single text field is often incorrect. It's as if the script being displayed is randomly selected from the array of XML files. Every reload of the browser produces a different result.

I also have a text preloader in the Flash file, but I wonder if this is creating more problems. Does anyone know where I can find SIMPLE code for loading an array of XML files - that will be preloaded and not cached on the server - plus code for the "Active Content Update - HTTP" version of the generated HTML file?

The Version 7 (MX 2004) Fla File Shows Correctly In Version 8
I am new to Flash.

We have an old fla file created with Flash MX 2004 that needs to be modified. About 2 months ago, I contact Adobe for MX 2004 and was told that Adobe did not sell it anymore. I had to purchase Version 8. Also I was told that version 8 would be backward capable.

I purchased version 8 and tried to load the fla file. However, the flash generated is different from what it was from MX 2004, some text or captions disappeared from screens.

Please advice.

I'm looking into whether we might use Flash to create an interactive CDRom on HIV/AIDS for distribution throughout Viet Nam.

One of the requirements is that users be able to customize their use of the CD with things like an avatar, and that they be able to be recognized and continue previous sessions if they need to leave and come back to it.

This would require I presume storing this sort of session info on the users' hard drive.

Is this something that one can accomplish using Flash?

Adjust Flash 6 File To Work As Flash 8 File
Hello people, I just found one Flash file where you can zoom-in/out some object on the screen (vector, bitmap, anything)...

The problem is, it has to be exported as Flash 6, and I need it to work as Flash 8... because I'm loading it into another SWF that needs to be Flash 8 (because of better video compression and new codec etc.)

I am not that good with AS, so any help would be greatly appreciated. There is just few AS lines assigned to the Magnifying glass object, but I can not figure it out no matter what I tried...

How To Have Jpgs Saved In CMYK Mode Thru Flash?
In flash I am doing a interactive CD- I have buttons that call different
things. Some are pdfs, some or eps's but the majority are Jpg's.

I use the geturl command for all.. On the pdf's and the eps files-it works
fine it opens and asks if you wish to save it.. That's what I want. However
on the jpgs- it doesn't unless I make it a rgb then it just shows the image
in the browser- I want to have it in cmyk and ask if you wish to download-
how would I do this?

Export/import Saved Text With Flash
Hello, i have a question concerning saving with flash.
Actually, i'd like to allow my users to export/import saved configurations with the module i made.
I've used SharedObjects to do so but it only allows the user to save 1 configuration (assuming the object is not deleted !).
I know i can do it with some PHP association, but i can't do it because the module is also downloadable, so PHP won't work localy (and the users aren't strong enough to use local web servers like easyphp !).
So i'd like to know if there's a way to make an export/import solution for text with flash.

I am planning to have a menu in flash on my site. I am not using frames. Will the flash file be cached by explorer by default or do I have to use frames to prevent flash to be loaded over and over again on every page?

Array For Saved Text File ?

Could anyone point me in the right direction for saving multiple text files with a single button? I can populate a single form with several different variable txt files with diff buttons, but on that form, I would like to be able to save the information that is loaded to the correct variable file with one button. I do not understand the use of arrays well. I was thinking that I could assemble an array of the text files, but not sure how to code the button to detect which text file is loaded and to be saved to. Thinking out loud..........

Is there a simple way to have a user change of a Flash page saved to the
server so others will see it? I would like to have a password-protected
editable Flash page that could be saved to the server when changes are made
on-line by a staff member. I have created a Perl/CGI program that does this
on one of my sites, but not all my clients have access to their servers'
cgi-bin folders nor the ability to assign passwords to prevent the file from
being changed by just anyone. Perhaps there is a free Flash word-processor
with file-saving program already created and available that could be
inserted into a password-protected page? Or is there just a simple Flash
script that will save a modified page or movie to the server without
obtaining special permissions from the servers' administrators? Another
option would be an in-Flash ftp program, from which the changed page could
just be sent by ftp to the server using a Flash command. ??
