Hi

I'm trying to export an swf as swf 8 as2 that has swf 6 as2 code in it.

Needless to say it doesn't quite work.

A friend told me that parts like:
this.splash_mc === undefined
need to be changed to this.splash_mc === "undefined"

can you tell me where I can find a list of other things that would need to be checked?

Help With Diff. Frames [Flash 8]
I have a game that I'm working on.
All the actions start when you enter each level, which is only one frame.
There a alot of vars that are specific to that level.
At the end of the level most of those vars have decreases to zero, and all the intervals are stopped.

So for the next level on the next keyframe I re-define all the vars and put the rest of the script where it was before.
All the intervals are told to start up, etc.
But nothing happens. The level just sits there, and the health bar dosen't move up, the timer doesn't reset.

Does anyone know why this might be?

[F8] What Is The Diff Btwn Flash 8 & Flash CS3 (9?)
I have Flash Professional 8. I was and am often confused by the different versions of Flash (Flash Basic, FlashLite, Flash CS3, etc). Now that Adobe owns Flash, and has released Flash CS3 (or is it Flash 9?), what is the difference between it and Macromedia Flash Pro 8?

Also regarding Flash Player - does the version of Flash Player affect the SWF object created by different versions of Flash? Since Flash player is now version 9 will it always play SWF files from ANY version of Flash (1-8), or will future players stop playing older Flash content (there is still Flash 5 and 7 content out there.)?

I am asking these questions because I have no intention of ever getting Flash CS3 and I want to stick with Flash Pro 8 - especially if the ONLY difference is just ActionScript (2 vs 3).

Starting Flash Movies At Diff Frames
I am using flash professional 8 (cs2).

I do know some ActionScript and HTML as I have used both casually for years. What I want to do is this. I have a top flash image that I use for navigation for my website. It is actually a template I purchased. What I cannot figure out is I would like to have the flash movie start on the last frame when I change pages. Basically, it has an animation it goes through each time it runs. But it is only necessary for it to do so the first time a visitor goes to the page. I would like it when they navigate to other pages for it to load in the same static state it is in after it's loaded. To better understand you can quickly surf to

How Do I Center Align A Flash Site In A Diff Res?
Hello,

I've been working on a flash site that works for 800X600 and a larger resolution. I've got the site designed so that someone who views it in the larger resolution sees the the content in th middle of the page, as well as space on the sides of the page, with no scrollbar on the bottom. I want it so that if the resolution is set to a higher level that the space on the sides of the page gets cutout. What I have when someone goes to a higher resolution is the space on the sides still there, as well as a scrollbar on the bottom.

Printing - Inside Flash Vs In A Browser. Using Same Print Function = Diff. Result ?
Hi,

I have a problem printing in Internet explorer 6.0 browser.
I need to print a movieclip and the movieclip contains a print button which has the following actions script:

printAsBitmap(this, "bframe");

When I choose to print by clicking the print button located inside the movieclip it prints correctly inside Flash but when I open the movieclip in my browser and click the print button located inside the movieclip the printer prints the movieclip so it looks stretced or scaled incorrectly.

Why does the print function work correctly inside Flash but not in the browser ?

2 Diff Resolutions, 3 Diff Movies?
i've been browsing the forums about different screen resolutions. i've seen the codes that need to be used. so do i have to make 3 different versions of a website to compensate for 3 differnt types of screen resolution?..what's the easiest way to go about doing this?...because when you change the movie properties in an FLA, it throws the whole stage out of whack... seems like 3 times the work almost..thanks for any advice...

My text is white in my .fla, but it appears yellow in the .swf. Why and does this happen, and how can I avoid it?

I changed my movie (nav bar) and the new movie plays ok on Netscape but IE plays the old movie!! I cleaned the cache, defraged, rebooted, went to the beer store, etc.

AS For Diff. Levels
I have a movieclip that loads on the maintimeline into level3 via duplicateMovieClip when a button is pressed.

This movie clip is named "popup". Inside "popup" I have a button that says close - the AS for this button is:

This is supposed to close the popup and change the colour of the button (a global variable Ive set up on the maintime line (_global.btpress)).

But nothing is happening - does anyone have any suggestions? I think it has to do with accessing the different levels, but I am not sure.

--Also, perhaps I will add this problem on to this: When the popup is loaded - if there are buttons behind the popup the are still "live" meaning they are able to click on them even when the popup is infront. Is there a way to make it, so it blocks those out?

Diff Between LoadMovie And LoadMovieNum?
What's the difference? Why when I click on loadMovie in the Actions panel it inserts loadMovieNum? Why is there no information in the Flash help for loadMovieNum? (Flash 5)

Reason why I'm asking is because I'm trying to call a .swf file from an addEventListener to display and it won't. It will work with just a regular function but it won't run if I call it from a function defined as an addEventListener. For example:

The updateBall is called when there is a MouseEvent when the ball is in motion. This script works fine and I'm trying to add a .swf when certain conditions are true when the ball is updated. I'm a bit puzzled, I'd think that it wouldn't matter where I call 'addChild(poppingLoader)' but currently it doesn't appear to be firing off in the function above.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Object Diff Function?
In the following code...what would the getDiff function look like?

1) The goal is, after the diff list is built, I would have a "findDiff" that would loop through the strDiff to easily look up the values - i.e. in the example, diffObj would have a single item "otherData", which I can look up from either _realObj or _tempObj.

2) What if the "structure" of the object is unknown, with an unknown number of levels deep, with unknown types of elements (some arrays, some strings, some objects within objects, etc)? How can I continue looping and looping until there are no further levels, and be collecting a diff list that makes sense as I move along?

I need to know how much time has past since the first user logged into my site until the last one logged in. I want to get a value out of it like: 3203 or something like that.
I get the date from a XML external file and if I trace for a date i get f.ex:

We can drop some info if it's too complex (such as seconds and eventually minutes)

Prototype Align 5 Diff Mc's / Swf's
Hello ive made 5 diff codes to give the right positions on my mc's.
but the code is all hanging on the mc's.
Now i was thinking 2 put all code into 1 keyframe.
So i think i need to write a prototype of it.

It will be great if somebody can help me out so i can understand more about how 2 write my own prototype for this.
The file is just for study for me to play a bit with aligning mc's on stage.

Linking To A Diff Scene
Hi guys and gals...

I am working on a project which is basically a virtual tour of a house. Each room I have made on seperate scenes, some rooms are on more than one scene (diff view points) and some room have a panoramic effect (these are the ones causing the problems).

To accheive the panoramic scrolling I have made the room as a mC. Inside the mC I have buttons which should link to other scenes... 'enter the problem'.

how do I link to another scene from in there? I have tried :

Is it possible to give an array of 6 items different x and y.. like as in 2 columns

[FMX] Accessing Btn From Diff. Timelines
I have a button instance mc "mcBtn",
inside this instance i have the actual Btn graphic symbol and AS layer.
inside the AS layer i have defined onRollover, onRelease, onRollOut methods.

if i rollOver/Out/Press Btn it works fine and Btn animates in some way.

I needed to access mcBtn from _parent timeline AS WELL, so i defined a method mcBtn.onPress [one which is not defined inside mcBtn yet], and inside onPress told mcBtn to animate some other content....

What happened is, that onPress works fine and after pressing Btn, requested content is animated, BUT all other methods defined inside mcBtn stopped working! [no animation when rollOvered, rollOut-ed, onRelease-d]

Q: how to make all those methods work?

I load an image into my canvas, the image is basically a webtemplate ive fixed up and going to use.

I basically want to create the buttons (for each text area obviously)
so i made 8 boxes, converted them to buttons and have them in the appropiate places

what i want to do is this, the main page comes up, and whatever button the user clicks on, it will load the new information that goes with that button, like they click Oilseed and it goes to Frame 2 (where the oilseed page is)

i can get it to open oilseed on frame 2, but when i add a new button and the

onMouseDown = function() {
gotoAndStop(2);

};

it wont work on either button then

hey guys I'm first time here in ultrashock forum.I've a little problem .I have a HTML page with 2 frames-left & main.Now I've a swf in the left.On the main is a conventional HTML page.Now I have to open diff. HTML pages in the main frame thru the links inside the flash movie which is resided in my left frame

Load Diff. Movie For Each Day
Let me explain. I'm trying to load a flash movie into another flash movie for a moving Background. The site I'm doing is calling other movies into the main .swf ... The whole site is in "Levels" .. I have 7 movies made that would be called into levels for background, 1.swf up to 7.swf. I should have a blank movie that would call the days in frames (if Sunday go to frame 2 and stop "frame 2 loads 1.swf for Sunday, ect.." I dont really know how to do this, but i know there's a way.

One more Ques. a little difficult
If there is a way. can u have an admin page using PHP where u can set up the backgrounds to those days, and save it? For example:

This is how I think It should look:
Sunday: call this Movie>> 1.swf
Monday: call this Movie>> 2.swf
Tuesday: call this Movie>> 3.swf
ect..

like all you will be changing is the flash movies.
for example:
Sunday: call this Movie>> 3.swf
Monday: call this Movie>> 1.swf
Tuesday: call this Movie>> 2.swf
Then Save it, could use a text file or SQL

This a bit complicated for me. Sounds interesting.

Getting HitTest To Work On Different Levels/within Diff MCs
Hi all - for a long time (months) I have been pondering over getting a hit test to work for objects not on the same _root.level and finally I have got it to work -

Tell Targets And Functioning Between Diff Scenes
ok heres my problem

im working on this site

and i made the news section in a single movie clip(paltes) and i used tell targets for the menu button and the news button, and all this is in a scene called news now on the products button i have it set now to play the outro animation wich is inside the movie clip (plates) and then once it plays the outro i wanted it to progress onto frame one of the next scene "products" right now i have the following code on the products button

but thats inside the movie clip and once it finishes the last frame it just sits there, how can i make the button go to and play "outro" and tehn go to the scene "products" i need this to work so i can use the same code for all the buttons so it can play the outro then go to the "contacts" scene etc etc ya get it???

Navigating To An Embedded MC In A Diff. Scene
I have tried so many different scripts and codes but I can't get from Scene 2 to my MCframe ("actAds"), that is located within a MC(whoContent) in Scene 1.

I really thought using this code would work but it just doensn't. what am I doing wrong or missing:

on(release) {
_root.whoContent.gotoAndPlay("actAds");
}

so "actAds" is the frame label I am targeting that is within the "whoContent" MC, which is located in frame 1 of Scene 1. and the script above is an action for a button located in Scene 2.

any ideas??????????
