Help With Flash Photogallery -- Thanks
Hey guys, I have hit a bit of a stump, I have done my own photo galleries before, but I wanted something with a bit more pizazz, so I downloaded this one. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with how they did it or their coding, probably a bit more advanced than I am use to, ie they used one frame with the library used.
Anyway, I was hoping to change the configurations to this:
1. Force the thumbnails and big pictures to center on the stage no matter what size because I wanted to enlarge it to 1152 by 534.
2. Make it so the picture size settings in the actionscript relies on percentage instead of pixels. This is because my pictures are not exact squares and I cannot force them all to resize to an exact setting. IE. The big pictures might stay whatever size the pictures are (100%), but the thumbnails would be smaller (20%).
I appreciate any help people can give. Please try to resize the stage or play with pictures and test to see what I mean.

Flash XML Photogallery
hi all, this is my first post, so go easy!
the XML/Flash MX/2004 tutorial is great, but how would this be used on a site that had a navigation to a certain frame label that would open a new gallery for each section?
e.g.
photos
- portraits
- landscapes
- skateboarding
- bmx
rather than have 4 gallery components is there a way of just having the one and targeting that?
thanks

Flash PhotoGallery
Hey!
In the process of making a photogallery, googled to get some ideas, saw this on Kirupa which fitted perfect to my needs: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/photogallery.htm
The code was nice and all, seemed easy to edit, I thought ><. Now I want to be able to have preview pictures on the side of this movieclip, like the most popular or what ever. I just need a code that opens a picture in this movieclip, for ex. I klick on the picture which in the photoarrey is equal to 3 or it's equal to image04.jpg.
I wanna be able to open pictures from the photoarrey without just using the back- and forwardbuttons, I wanna be able to open a specific image from that arrey.
Please help me!

*** Flash/xml Photogallery HELP ***
He guys. I created the flash gallery, like in the tutorial, but I have 1 issue with the whole thing. I need a way to generate thumbnails from the same image files as my large images, (image1.jpg is both the large image and the small image) and also allow me to adjust thumbnail size through either flash or xml scripting. It seems rather work-heavy to make a seperate list of thumbnails, even though the page would load faster. If anyone can help me with this, I would really appreciate it. (please explain it to me like I don't know what i'm doing... cuz i dont lol)
Flash And XML Photogallery
The tutorial here was well... very interesting and easy to follow. Thanks Kirupa . But a question comes to my mind. This is because ia m not very good with AS however iam good with coding. I understand the concept of for loops, conditional loops, declaring variables and understanding program syntax. But AS just screws me over a lot of time.
So my question. What if you wanted to make a photo gallery with dates in it. Meaning a fully automated script that will take a thumbnail for a particular date and make it like so that the user can see the data like this
Photo Album [ June 10, 2006 ]
Photo Album [ June 16, 2006 ]
Photo Album [ June 21, 2006 ]
then when they click on it the slidshow under that date starts.
I understand that one way can be by making the xml something like this?
<Even name and date>
-<image url></image url>
-<caption></caption>
-<image url></image url>
-<caption></caption>
</event name and date>
<Even name and date>
-<image url></image url>
-<caption></caption>
-<image url></image url>
-<caption></caption>
</event name and date>
But what really confuses me that how will it generate thumbnails and stuff like that and control their over flow? if all of this is possible then how can i do it?
Help!
Thanks
Craeyon.

Xml Flash Photogallery
Dear All,
Regarding the 2 tutorials on building the xml/Flash photo gallery - I seem to have a slight issue. The Tutorials incidentally are excellent and I have managed to adapt a few things and as end result the flash gallery plays fine when exported from flash.
However, when inserting the flash movie into an html page in dreamweaver 8 I see nothing when previewing it, just a grey box as if the photos are missing. In the xml file I have ammended the photo location to C: est as an example and all is well until importing to dreamweaver. Obviously I am missing something. Excuse what may appear as a stupid question but I am relatively new to Flash and xml in particular.
any help appreciated,
regards,
pinkmarine
Flash Photogallery
I was following and learning a great deal from the Flash/XML Gallery by Kirupa - I have it working at for the most part the coding makes sense.
I have one little issue though. I'm trying to fade out the images.
In the code,
HTML Code:
picture._alpha = 0;
sets the image to 0, but i figured if i wanted to fade it out, i would need something like this:
HTML Code:
if (picture._alpha>0) {
picture._alpha -= 10;
}
this doesn't work. I've put it multiple places in the code, including in place of
HTML Code:
picture._alpha = 0;
but I can't get it to fade. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help and the resources!
How Do I Make A Photogallery In Flash Mx
My tutor has asked me to make a flash photo project with the following instructions. I am a newbie to flash and even dont know how to operate. Please help.
I have contained the sample of the project he made in the link below:
http://www.altoobad.com/Flash.rar
•Create a new movie with the name: Photo Project.fla
•The movie size should be: 300X200 and a white background.
•Create two buttons: (Next and Prev) using basic colors and shapes.
•Each image is slowly transformed into the other image upon clicking the buttons.
•There should be a frame around the images)
•Each Image movie should at least contain 3 layers named: image, frame1 and frame2.
•There is a counter variable that displays the number of image displayed.
•The text : “PHOTO GALLERY” has a mask effect to show the characters.
•The background has a small shaping effect to produce a light upon showing each image.
Please help
Flash Photogallery Prob
Dear folks,
When I click on a picture in the thumbnailscroller it should show the right category for the project. However, there seems to be a little bug in it.
The debug variable always shows 12 or 13, which depends of the number of images there are in the XML file. Take a look! Click the yellow bar
Any help or suggestions are very appreciated!

Dynamic Photogallery In Flash 8
i basically want to do this:
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx20...otogallery.htm
but, instead of having to click a next and previous button, i would just like the images to autoplay after a certain amount of time (a couple seconds). like just fade them in and out with a nice transition. oh...and i'd also like the images to load randomly if possible.
any help is greatly appreciated.
XML Flash Photogallery Problem
I have read the tutorial listed below and have downloaded the source code to try and implement it into my own site.
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/xml_flash_photogallery.htm
The problem I am having is it is only displaying every other image. It will show my first, third, fifth,...etc and I cannot figure out why it is working this way. When I am on my second image it will display the description text and the picture number but no photo is displayed.
I have attached my code. As you will see I haven't changed anything but the look of the photogallery.
Thanks for your help in advance.
PhotoGallery (using XML And Flash) Question
Hi There!
The tutorial for the Photo Gallery is great! But i'm having trouble with one part.
I want to add a second caption (actually a title) along with each photo.
any ideas?
FLASH XML Photogallery Tutorial Q
Hi all,
I am new here but have always been a frequent visitorto the tutorials and features of the site.
Anyway down to my question...
I have just built the XML photogallery but would like the next button to loop back to the first image in the XML file instead of it just stopping.
This is mainly to do with the fact
that my gallery will have in excess of 60 images so if a user manages to actually get thru 60 images i would prefer them to actually be able to click next to go back to the start and not have to use the prev button to skip thru the image.
Here is the code
Code:
stop();
fscommand("allowscale","false");
function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
xmlNode = this.firstChild;
image = [];
description = [];
total = xmlNode.childNodes.length;
for (i=0; i<total; i++) {
image[i] = xmlNode.childNodes[i].childNodes[0].firstChild.nodeValue;
description[i] = xmlNode.childNodes[i].childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue;
}
firstImage();
} else {
content = "file not loaded!";
}
}
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
xmlData.onLoad = loadXML;
xmlData.load("images.xml");
/////////////////////////////////////
listen = new Object();
listen.onKeyDown = function() {
if (Key.getCode() == Key.LEFT) {
prevImage();
} else if (Key.getCode() == Key.RIGHT) {
nextImage();
}
};
Key.addListener(listen);
prev_btn.onRelease = function() {
prevImage();
};
next_btn.onRelease = function() {
nextImage();
};
/////////////////////////////////////
p = 0;
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
filesize = picture.getBytesTotal();
loaded = picture.getBytesLoaded();
preloader._visible = true;
if (loaded != filesize) {
preloader.preload_bar._xscale = 100*loaded/filesize;
} else {
preloader._visible = false;
if (picture._alpha<100) {
picture._alpha += 10;
}
}
};
function nextImage() {
if (p<(total-1)) {
p++;
if (loaded == filesize) {
picture._alpha = 0;
picture.loadMovie(image[p], 1);
desc_txt.text = description[p];
picture_num();
}
}
}
function prevImage() {
if (p>0) {
p--;
picture._alpha = 0;
picture.loadMovie(image[p], 1);
desc_txt.text = description[p];
picture_num();
}
}
function firstImage() {
if (loaded == filesize) {
picture._alpha = 0;
picture.loadMovie(image[0], 1);
desc_txt.text = description[0];
picture_num();
}
}
function picture_num() {
current_pos = p+1;
pos_txt.text = current_pos;" / "+total;
}
Can somone help with editing this code so it will do what i need it to do please - it will be most appreciated
Cheers

Photogallery In Flash Not Working In Dreamweaver?
Hi everyone!
I hope someone will be able to help me: Ok here is the situation:
I created a photogallery in flash by creating a blank movie clip and naming the instance "holder" then I created buttons below this with thumbnail photos. The action script in the thumbnails is :
on(release) {
this.holder.loadMoive("image1.jpg",0);
It works perfectly in flash! Then when I import the swf file into the dreamweaver site that I am building, my thumbnails show up, but they no longer bring up the image inside the movie clip. AHHHHH!!!! So basically I click on the button and no image appears. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Thank you so much!
FMX2004: XML And Flash Photogallery Tutorial
Hi, I just went through it, and after much frustration of it not working I finally solved the problem, Flash cannot load progressive jpgs... or maybe it can and there's a trick to it. Either way, this may be helpful for other people who follow the tute. 'tis a fine tutorial though, I like the explainations of the scripts.
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I thought I'd put it here I guess.
Flash MX 2004 Photogallery Problem
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx20...otogallery.htm
the tutorial above worked fine for the standard images kirupa used, all were 300x200 and faded into position perfectly, however if another picture is used that's the same size even, it won't load, nor will it load if the same images kirupa used are edited with the tiniest pixel changed. anyone know why? i know it's definitely not the hyperlinks in the .xml file.
Using Javascript To Control XML/Flash Photogallery
Hello everyone,
I followed the tutorial for the XML/Flash Photogallery and everything worked great.
However, I'd like to try something different.
Is there a way to control the switching of the images by using a normal HTML/Javascript text link?
I have a long list of links to image "thumbnails" and I want people to be able to click on the text link, and have the flash switch to the desired image, but not by using buttons in flash.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Help-Thumbnail To PhotoGallery WITHIN My Already Made Flash Site
Hi,
I pre-made all of the parts of my portfolio flash site, but now I want to add galleries for the different pages/sections of my sites.
I want something with small thumbnails on the (left) and to show the image somewhere next to it on the page. Something similar to this example: http://www.mr10.net/components/gallery/galleryDemo.html But within my one Frame. (>i also tried that guys tutorial, but he left some info out, and i couldnt get it to work)
My main problem is that most tutorials have a photo gallery/slideshow from scratch. I want to add this WITHIN my already made flashpage. i.e. I can't figure out how to add the gallery in just that one specific frame.
Like I have a "Paintings" page on Frame 5, and I want the gallery to be within that page in a certain spot. Is there a way to do this with components?
Does anyone have any good photo galleries which are better suited to showing personal or portfolio work? I don't just want the click-thur galleries. I'm desperately trying to figure this out in flash and refuse to have to go the html web page route. Please help! Any info is greatly appreciated! I have Flash8.

XML And Flash Photogallery Only Loads Odd Numbered Images
Hi folks. I'm having some trouble with the XML and flash photogallery tutorial. I downloaded the full source files for Flash MX. I made no changes to the files, but when I preview the swf the photogallery only loads the odd numbered images.
I downloaded the trial version MX 2004 and loaded the same fla file. When I preview in 2004, everything works perfectly. Just in case I downloaded the wrong version, I've already redownloaded the MX only version of the photogallery source code.
I'm running on Flash MX on a Mac running OS 10.4. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Difficulty With Photogallery Using XML And Flash (adding Thumbnails)
I've been following the Photogallery using XML and Flash tutorial on kirupa (located at http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/thumbnails.htm) but I'm having some difficulty with it.
I should mention that I'm not following the tutorial directly -- I wanted to use it in another project I'm doing so I tried to recreate the interface manually. So there's a chance that my problem could be that I didn't recreate it perfectly, but I hope you can help me to be the judge of that.
I have two specific problems (one more major than the other), both related with the thumbnail scroller:
1) The thumbnails do not scroll when I do a rollover on the left and right boundaries. I really don't know what to make of this, as I'm pretty sure I followed the directions (step 9 - 12, page 3) correctly.
2) When I place the thumbnailMC symbol (step 7, page 3) and try previewing the file, the thumbnails appear way past the left boundary. If "x" represents the thumbnails and "|" represents the boundary, without the mask applied the thumbnails should show up as "|xxx|xxxxx". Instead, mine shows up like "xxx|xxx|xxxxx".
Everything else (previous/next buttons, preloader bar, actual image) works just fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what my issue is?
How To Reduce Full-size Image In Flash Photogallery
I tried my hand at building a photogallery following along Colin Smith's "How to Wow" in Flash. Everything seemed to turn out great except when I click on a thumbnail to show the full size image, it appears bigger than the stage so you only see a part of it. I have tried reducing the size of the image in photoshop and replacing the original library image...no use. Can anyone suggest how to fix this so that it will show a image no bigger than the stage? To get a better understanding of what I am talking about, you can see it at www.keystonemkg.com/flashproblem.html
Thanks in advance for the help
XML And Flash Photogallery Using Thumbnail Pictures Instead Of Prev/next Buttons?
Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to have a selection of thumbnail pictures that I can click on and they would call in the picture, instead of pressing the previous/next buttons to move to the next picture, is there anyway that I could use thumbnails as the means of going through the selection of photos?
E.g., I would have about 4 thumbnails of the other pictures that are in my photogallery, and any of them could be clicked on and that would load in the correct picture, in exactly the same way as it would if I were using the previous and next buttons, but I can choose to view them in any order.
Any/all help is appreciated.
Xml And Photogallery Tutorial - Works Fine For Flash Player 9 But Not 7
Hi
I've followed the tutorial called XML and dynamic photo gallery. Everything is working fine - except that the image isn't being shown unless I use Flash Player 9 to view it... I wonder is there something special about the loadMovie function?
I know for sure that I can't see the image in Flash 7... I've incorporated the tutorial into something I've done myself so it's hard to say whether it's because of masks, or instance sizes or what...
Thanks for any help,
G

How Do I Add A Photogallery?
I am doing a college project about myself.
I have decided to create web site in flash mx 2004 (click link below).
http://www.sendhere.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
I am trying to work out how to add a photogallery. Where the square is the gallery window and displays each image (of me) when the small buttons underneath the square are clicked?
Would the window be a movieclip with all my images behind it?
Would i have to alpha in the movieclip?
Really am stuck with this project.
Hope someone can help?
Thanks in advance.

PhotoGallery Help
I'm relatively new to programming with flash, i can do most of the basic stuff, but i'm trying to get a little better, and rather than download other people's code I'd like to do it myself, but I have a problem.
I've done this code, which is on the first frame of the root movie....
this.createEmptyMovieClip("thumb01_mc", 1);
thumb01_mc.loadMovie("Galleries/Aysgarth Falls/Thumbs/agf01.jpg");
with (thumb01_mc) {
_x = 19.1;
_y = 102.3;
onRelease = function() {
getURL("http://www.google.co.uk", "_blank");
}
};
Now when I check it in the script debugger thing, its says there are no errors (which is good), but it doesn't do what I want it to, which is open another window and display what I want it to.
Can anyone help...please.

XML Photogallery Help
So I'm trying to make an xml photogallery.
I made a separate AS file that I'm referencing in the time line to call up and display the xml info which is a serious of images.
on my AS file (which I've saved as "GALLERYscript.as) i have:
Code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.SimpleButton;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.net.URLLoader;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
public class Main extends Sprite
{
protected var _data:XML;
protected var _images:Array;
public function Main():void
{
init();
}
protected function init():void
{
var urlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, dataLoaded, false, 0, true);
urlLoader.load(new URLRequest("images.xml"));
}
protected function dataLoaded(e:Event):void
{
_data = new XML(e.currentTarget.data);
_images = new Array(_data.photo.length());
build();
}
protected function build():void
{
previous_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, traverseImage, false, 0, true);
next_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, traverseImage, false, 0, true);
loadImage(0);
}
protected function loadImage( index:int ):void
{
if (_images[index])
{
replaceImage(_images[index]);
return;
} else
{
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.load(new URLRequest(_data.photo[index].img));
_images[index] = loader;
replaceImage(loader);
}
}
protected function replaceImage( obj:DisplayObject ):void
{
while(picture_mc.numChildren) picture_mc.removeChildAt(0);
picture_mc.addChild(obj);
}
protected function traverseImage(e:MouseEvent):void
{
var index:int = _images.indexOf(container_mc.getChildAt(0));
if (e.currentTarget == previous_btn) index--;
else if (e.currentTarget == next_btn) index++;
index %= _images.length;
if (index < 0) index = _images.length - 1;
loadImage(index);
}
}
and in my timeline i have:
Code:
import GALLERYscript;
var obj:GALLERYscript;
obj = new GALLERYscript();
obj.identify();
When I export my movie though I'm getting an error:
1120: Access of undefined property for both of the buttons that control the movement through the images and the movie clip that holds the images.
Any help would go along way...i'm quite the flash newb.
Xml Photogallery
Hi, I'm using the tutorial at Kirupa to build an xml based photogallery.
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx20..._slideshow.htm
Everything is working great but i'm not so good at actionscript code, and i want to slow down the transition between my images and keep it smooth. Can someone please tell me which bit of the code i need to change to do this, if it's even possible?
