Flash Video In Player 7 On The Macintosh
Hi,

We have a project running locally from CD that is cross-platform and
a requirement is that it runs in Player 7 or earlier. Everything works
on the Windows side, but on the Mac side the project cant seem to find
the flv video. I have tried simplifying the directory path to the
video as much as possible and I have rebuilt the project in Flash MX 2004
to make sure it is not being affected by Flash 8.

I am using the Flash MediaPlayback component in order to take advanatage
of the built in controls. Why would this work in Flash Player 7 on windows
but not the Mac? The only fix I have been able to find is to upgrade the
Mac Flash Player to 8. Then it finds the video okay. This does not make
sense though because Flash video should have worked fine on a Mac before
Player 8 came out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Macintosh V PC Flash Player 7 Plugin Anomalies
Hello happy cyber-space bunnies,

I have a problem with a fade function in a website I'm developing... It works fine on the PC, but doesn't on the Macintosh. I've checked that the Mac has the correct version of Flash player etc, yet this doesn't seem to make any difference...

If I don't figure this out soon, I think I may have one carrot too many and end it all in a massive carotine overdose!

Has anyboady out there experienced any similar non-sensical anomalies between PC & Mac version of the Flash Player Plugins...? Please tell me I'm not going insane... Pretty please, pweeze, I feel the carrot hunger upon me...

Fscommand Exec On Macintosh Standalone Player
I'm trying to link to an exe file which is NOT in the same directory as the projector file.
This example works for Windows, but not for macintosh.

on (release) {
fscommand ("exec", "software\star_office51\documentation\starsetup .EXE");
}

Can the same sort of thing be done for Mac Flash player files? If so, can anyone help with the syntax.

P.S. I realise that .exe files do not work on Macs. I'm trying to run an installer (eg. Eudora installer)

Flash 6 And Macintosh
Im working on a site wich is a frameset that loads a swf file into each frame.. It works perfect in Explorer on a PC... But on a Macintosh it seams to have a problem "refreshing" the swf files. When i click a link, suddenly parts of the swf files dissapears, and wont show until i drag the mouse over the parts that dissapears. Any one have something smart to say about this?? Im in a bit of a hurry because the site is being released 2morrow

Flash/Macintosh Woes

Please forgive me if I am asking this question in the incorrect forum.

My problem is this: I have a Flash component that I need to use on some of my webpages. The Flash component is a chat. I am using the XML.load method to retrieve the chat messages from the server periodically, and I am using the SendVars.sendAndLoad method to send the chat messages to the server.

Here is where the problem comes in, everything works fine with Internet Explorer on a windows computer, but with Internet Explorer and a Macintosh, it seems like the sendAndLoad or load methods don't do anything.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I may be doing incorrectly.

I think that the XML.load( URL ) is sending to the server, because I see the request in the server logs, but the XML is not parsed or displayed on a Macintosh.

I don't think that the SendVars.sendAndLoad is making it to the server at all because I don't see those requests in the server log.

And as I mentioned, everything works perfectly as long as we use a Windows machine instead of a Macintosh.

Any ideas ?

Flash On Macintosh Issues. HELP
Guys, I seem to be having a problem with flash movies running on ie on macs with os9 and osX.

It always works fine on PC's but it barely does on macs.... it seems to play slower on macs, andsometimes it doesn't even play...

here're two sites for example:
www.lucrativedesign.com (this site takes a while to load cuz the host sucks, but it runs fine on PC, and it doesn't even play after the preloader on any macs i've used).

Macintosh IE Flash Problem... Help
Hi folks,

I'm having a weird problem.

On our homepage, http://www.assumption.edu I have a flash movie that plays at the top of the page. It's just a "artsy" thing and really doesn't have all that much content.

Anyway, when people that use Macs and IE view the page, and then go to scroll down, the Flash movie seems to scroll with it.. or often times, it's just parts of the movie.. so the result is a mangled looking page.

I thought I had narrowed the problem down to Mac IE 5.0 and below, but I just learned that it's also having the same affect on Mac IE 5.2.

Have any of you ever heard of this problem? It seems to be unique to my flash movie because I went to macromedia.com (where they have a similar size flash movie at the top of their homepage) and I can't get the problem to replicate there.

Then I got to thinking that maybe I'd just sense what platform they are using and then send them to a different page without a flash movie, but I hate to go to that extreme.

I've also tried exporting the movie in everything from Flash 7 down to Flash 4 and that still doesn't fix it. I've changed the frame rate of the movie.. just about everything that I can think of, and it's still having the problem.

This is driving me nuts!

Macintosh/Flash Frustration... Desperate For Help.
Hi all, I'm having trouble with Macintosh users and a Flash website.... There seem to be two basic problems.

1)Macusers that don't have the 6.0.29.0 player are having difficulty getting it. I've personally sat and watched twice while someone went to a Flash6 site (without the current flash player) and instead of the player automatically loading itself, it just stalled and...nothing.
I waited for 1/2 hour and still nothing. Finally went to the Macromedia site and manually downloaded the thing, but what a PITA that was. Why does this happen? Are other Macusers having trouble aquiring the player?

2) Even once the player is finally installed (and verified using getVersion(), I have an all flash site that seems to be a problem for a couple of Macusers using OS 8.6.
Sometime the site doesn't work correctly, dynamic text and information that's imported using loadVariables() doesn't always seem to work. Sometimes the page will just stall and
not load at all. This problem seems to be inconsistant, sometimes the site works fine and sometimes not(even for the same user on the same machine), but it appears to be confined to Mac OS 8.6 users...
PC/Windoze users *never* seem to have trouble with it, it's only the Mac users.

Please help me, I'm going out of my mind! Are there any known Mac/Flash issues I should be aware of?

Macintosh Projector / Fscommand .exe / Flash MX
I can get fscommand .exe to work in Windows Projector, but not Macintosh Projector for Flash MX. In windows, I create a folder named "fscommand" to put the .exe files. The actionscript I use is:

}

Does anyone have a clue as to what I need to use for a Mac Projector? I've tried putting the .exe files in the same folder and in a fscommand folder. Please don't direct me to the Macromedia Support Center- been there, done that (They just have something about colons instead of slashes for folders)

I built templates for a graphic artist to use and want him to install them in his Templates folder on his computer (a Mac), so he can open them with New from Template.

Where is the Templates directory on a Mac (OS9)?

He can't find it, and I don't know what to tell him.

Flash Movie Won't Work On Macintosh IE
Hello everyone!

I'm new to website building and I can't (for the life of me)
figure out why my Flash movie won't work in Internet Explorer on the MAC.

I'm building most of this site in DreamweaverMX but have some simple flash movies in it.
(This is actually a test website to help me learn how to create one.)

I heard that macromedia has some source code called 'Mac wierdness' on their products page but I don't know enough about code to figure out which part I should use and also where to put it in my html page.

Maybe there's an easier way of doing it!?!

I don't mean to be such a dummy, I'm just trying to learn with the brain that I was given.

Flash Video And Macintosh - Anyone Experienced?
Hi all,

seems I am the only developer out, who has to implement flash video compatible with Macintosh. I wonder, if Macromedia simply did not care about Macintosh cache problems or if I am too stupid.

I got some videofiles (around 3 / 6 MB) showing a filmproduction companies work. We used to develop their site back in Flash 5 times using Quicktime for all vid stuff - perfect fit.

Now, we were asked to do it completely in Flash. Good idea.

First we used a loadMovie() approach to do this, embedding swf files (cause it was nice to have a kind of progressive download but stay Flash MX compatible). Works perfectly on PC. Macintosh crashes at small Internet Explorer cache sizes.

So we switched to MX2004 and FLV files / components - same effect. Small cache - huge problem.

Macromedia announced in a white paper, that FlashCom would not require much RAM / cache, cause it provides real streaming instead of progressive download.

I wonder if this (horrible expensive) solution (which our client does not even think of to pay for) is the only way to do it.

Anyone out, experiencing the same problem?

Is there a way to increase cache size without user input (via AS, whatever).

Please help - this is not only about loosing money. We are commited to flash-based development and many of our clients provide content for a Macintosh target audience. There must be a solution to implement video for both platforms.

Flash Plug-ins Issue For Netscape And Macintosh

I felt me as an eligible candidate to post the message in this category of discussion since I am quite new to flash.
I have designed a simple homepage using flash mx.
During design period, I worked in PC and used IE explorer browser. Everything is working well in this platform. But, when I checked my same website using Netscape ( both in PC and Macintosh), my whole website is just appeared as red without any text and graphics. Please, check my website at this link.

New Sound Quality Problems With Flash And Macintosh
First I noticed the the Flash 8 Video Encoder exported low low quality sound, as if pass through some bit-crusher folder, happened on several macs in the office. Finally, I try it on Windows XP, and no sound problems with FLV export (and it was exporting videos 400% faster than macs).

Now, both inside Flash Ap itself, and worse in the SWF, stream sounds are low-quality, with 16bit 44k pristine-sounding source files.

I have a peculiar problem with some of my intel macintosh OS 10.4.5 running customers...

Flash 8 sites though appear normal at the first load of page, suddenly re-appear with a blue filter on all content (text, photos, everything.) only if they change to another app & then come back to the internet navigator....

So I was wondering if someone has seen this problem before... what can be done about it... or should they simply start loving the color blue...

Macintosh Problem
Hi.

When my web page is uploaded, it appears different on a mac. for example, i set the flash in my web to be transparent but when i surf my site on mac its not transparent. Another thing is the scroll text, its a mouseover effect to scroll the text but on mac the flash file jumps to the left or right...not allowing a mac user to scroll the text. But everything is fine on pc though. What is wrong ? Can anybody please help?! Thanx

Macintosh Won't Run My File
I have put together a website in Flash and after posting it have had a couple of complaints from Macintosh users who claim that the site doesn't work. On a PC it seems to be fine. Is there something that I am missing when putting the file together that excludes Mac users? It seems to be having trouble loading movies for some reason. Has anyone got any ideas? I thought that this would work fairly seamlessly cross platform but now I am not so sure... Director 8.5 And Macintosh?
I have created a director 8.5 training video that needs to download and run automatically once clicked by the user. This has been acomplished so far using the create projector function and after zipping it up and creating a self executable it runs fine on a PC.

My issue is that it's not working on a Macintosh?? I am aware that the .exe is not a native executable file for a mac but what am I to do.....I need this executalbe to be able to run on a Mac. It is ok if i make two seperate links..one for Pc and one for mac but I need the mac file to be self executable if possible. One click should launch the application.

I use a PC version of Flash MX. When I publish my files it creates a prompt withinh the html to prompt the browser to request a Flash pluin download if there isn't one already. But, It will not prompt a Macintosh computer to download the plugin if there isn't one already. Anyone have any ideas?

MacIntosh Issues
Hi,

don't know if it is something i am doing wrong. A site I did in Flash MX works fine except on any Mac that tries to go to the site. I have the .swf file embedded into a table. Everything shows except the .swf file. Does anyone know why a Mac can't open up the site??

I recently 'switched' and everything's been great except for Flash 8. Everytime I tab to a different application and jump back into flash, it takes about 20 seconds to load!!

Anyone else Mackin it up and knows how to resolve this? Im almost ready to bootcamp into windows to get my projects done now

Swf Files On Macintosh
I have developed a site that has some swf games on it. These work fine on PC's, but when I tested them on a Mac (on IE) it wouldn't play them. The Mac downloads the swf files OK, but won't play them in the pop up window, or even when I click on the swf file on the desktop.

At first the Mac only had Flash Player 5 on it, so I upgraded to 7, but this didn't make a difference. I used Flash MX to develop the games and published to 6. I can't publish any lower because there are features that aren't compatible for 5.

Please can somebody help me out with this problem?? I'm really stuck!

Macintosh Projector
I'm working on a project that will be distributed on a CD. The project is to be full screen so I've created a movie (DETECTION.fla) to test the viewer's screen resolution. If screen res >= 1024x768 then the project will play (FULL.fla) fullscreen, without scaling the content. If screen res < 1024x768 then the project plays (SCALED.fla) fullscreen, but is scaled to fit.

I've got the swf version to work fine with loadMovie, but I'd like to use a Macintosh Projector for Mac users and I don't know how to call it up. When published it does not have an extension.

Is there a certain extension I need to use when I try to loadMovie? Do I need to use: fscommand ("exec", "FULL ...");

Any guidance or direction would be very appreciated.

FPS Problem On Macintosh
Hi,

I'm trying to generate graphics with sound, I use flashamp to generate amplitude... very easy... my code is working fine on pc and on player mac (publish)... the problem is when i look at it on a mac browser (safari, ie, firefox)... it goes from 15 fps to 12 fps... The problem is probably with the graphic card on a mac... so I try to put my code instead of on EnterFrame to put on a setInterval at 1/15 to force it to work fine but it dosent work at all.

Can you help!!!

Flash Player Installed, But Every Site Flash Player Required For Asks To Install Not Working At All
Hi all, wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me, PLEASE lol
Flash player asks to be installed everytime I go onto any site that requires it, I have installed it, it advises it has been sucessfully installed but when I go back to the page it asks again! Have had this problem for ages and have tried eveything I can think of! at witts end and customer service wont help as its a free product.
Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
