Flash Projects?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to web design and have been sent some Flash Projects by a friend. However, I don't know what to do with them. I have Flash 8 Pro and Flash Player but no joy. I realise this must be very obvious to you folk but to me, it's very frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated! Kind regards, Richard

Help On Flash Projects
I been trying to learn flash have way decent for like 2 or 3 years. But I just don't get it. I was wondering if anybody had any pointer like tutorial I could use or etc. I will be doing more hip hop and rap websites. I would like to know how to do video enable in flash, animated into and some of the basic stuff too. I mean can some one help me out on some tutorials. Flash MX 04 Pro - Using Projects
I want to use different actionscipt files for all my programing, i.e. have one called menu.as (actionscript file) for all the menu code.
My problem is how do I attach/link the menu.as to the main movie? I searched through the help file and havent found anything. I know how to add the menu.as to the project.

One Of My First Flash Projects Please Help
Ok this is one of my first flash sites, I hate the current site thats up so I grabbed a copy of flash a while back and I'm running into a bit of confusion with separating the loading.>>>
My fla. file is telling my movie to load to a certain point, so that load time is not a big issue, How do I get the separate scenes and or mc's to load individually after that, when they are clicked? is this even possible or do I have to use frames and separate swf's?
The problem is in the templates section. I want the movie to lad up to the point where you have the second level of navigation and then each link after that on the templates page loads when clicked.

Communication Between Two Flash Projects
I have one navigation bar in the top, and one main content area below.
Both are in flash, and is there anyway to communicate between the different flash projects.
Like if i click Next in the navigationbar it changes the swf file.
I find it better in this situation to use this.
I'm building over 50 different pages and it would be nice to have just one navigation bar for all of them.
(I prefer not to have them in the same swf, because it will be alot more work to build and maintain.)

Opensource Flash Projects?
[I'm not sure if this is the correct forum so feel free to move this post if necessary.]
I know there are heaps of downloadable components and other shared resources for Flash. But I would like to go one (or a few) steps further in sharing flash resources.
What I'm interested in are complete flash open source projects. Rich Internet Applications (RIA's) like a store, a content management system or perhaps a mailinglist manager could use flash as it's technology.
RIA's like the Macromedia Pet Market are ideal to use flash for. Anyway most of you would agree with me on this point. (perhaps not the diehard Jakoc Nielsen fans, but they would really come here anyway hehehe)
My point is I would like to join or perhaps start an open source project for a flash store which could be completely skinable so the community could use something like this for their own projects. However I'm not sure how to go about this. I could do a number of things:

I'm not worried about the extra work in managing the project(s) since I know the benefits will be more than the costs if developers join in.
Does anybody know of exsting opensource flash projects? Specifically a shop. I have searched around but cannot find anything other than the MM Pet Market (which does have it's source code available so that could be the starting point).
Does anybody have any good / bad experience with making your flash projects opensource? Which option would you advise to pursue?
Using Sample Projects In Flash 8
Hi there,
Im a student building a Flash 8 website and i just wanted some guidance on a problem im having.
Basically I was looking at one of the sample projects that comes with Flash 8, its the jukebox one to be exact. I would like to use this within my website however im having problems doing this.
I've tried importing the swf into the library for my site but this doesnt work. Are these samples in some way protected so they cant be used in other projects?
Ive also tried copying and pasting the keyframes into my project. This works to a certain extent but because the jukebox sample was made entirely using actionscript I cannot configure its position on the stage.
I would appreciate any guidance on this matter.

Director Projects With Flash?

Not sure about this one.....I have many Director projects which I created a view years back whilst at colloge, I have now moved on and am learning flash. When puttin together a folio using flash, is there any way that I can integrate the projects I create in director, even simple thing like using flash to play a director.exe tthen come back to the flash movie??
Is this possible, perhaps exporting the director as a shockwave file might work but file sizes would be huge (back in those days I never considered that! lol)
Any help , advice, links would be grate.

I have a really good flash project I want to publish on the web, but I know it can be saved and convert back to a .fla/ something someone else can work with and alter for their own. I wanted to know if anybody knows a way of protecting flash work on the web, but still allowing the public to visit/view it?

Flash Movie Projects (format)
I am just wondering what some of the industry standards are for finished projects created in Flash...
Such as video loops, introductions, presentations and movies that will be distributed for personal use...
mov, mpg and avi files tend to be so large - is it standard to use just an swf file? or should they be encoded to play on dvd? I don't know enough about this subject, but have some projects coming up that will need a solution for distribution and compatibility...

Flash OCX Embedded In Windows Projects
HI,
I work with the flash ocx embedded in windows applications.
In the past we have used VB6 and the communication has been pretty simple stuff.
We are completely re-writing our main windows app using VB.net.
I am looking for all the moost up to date info and tutorials etc I can get for using flash embedded in windows apps.
Hopefully we can do more with the latest player and VB.net???
This info seems awefully hard to track down, and even then pretty thin, listening Adobe?
Anyway please post any links etc to good info on teh Adobe site or others here.

Publishing Flash Projects To Host
Hi - first time publishing a flash project to a remote host, when i click on the flash project and check in, i get an error transferring the file "xyz.flp" and subsequent flash files within the project. i assume this is something to do with flash and not with my webhost. does anyone know why this happens and what is the best way to work around it? as my site is modular it takes forever to upload due to having to cancel the error messages. obviously putting the swfs and html files in a folder and publishing that is an option, but is there something im missing?

Flash Projects In Differnet Languages
Hey all!
I am in the process of doing a flash presentation for CD in 8 different languages.
I've managed to get greek, korean, japaneese, and chinese completed. I am having issues with Arabic and Urdu. These read from right to left and when I enter my text in from a word document into flash it wants to twist everything around and read from left to right. I know it can be done becuase I've seen sites an arabic in flash. I am using Flash MX2004 does anyone have a solution or ideas for this?

Help: Optimising Flash Projects - Reducing Redundancy
Hi,
Im trying to cut down on the filesize of some of my movies by essentially reducing some of the redundancy.
In the current project im working on (flash website) all movies use the same font. Currently each individual "child" movie has the font embedded, so I gather using a font Symbol and ultimately a shared library may be the way to go so that I dont have to embed for each child.
Secondly, in the same project I have various functions which are duplicated for each of the child movies. So in this case I figure creating a "global functions" file (i.e. global_functions.as) and including it (#include "global_functions.as"") into the main movie (mainMovie.swf) is the way to go.
How does all this sound? Are their alternate methods or other ways of optimising my project you can suggest? Would appreciate some feedback, im always interested in learning new ways of optimising my flash projects

What Spec Of Pc Do You Have In Mind When You All Develop Your Flash Projects?
Hi, I'm developing a game on my my 2Ghz PC and am trying to find the optimum frame rate.
when i set the fps to 20 the game runs at the same speed whatever the quality. However if I increase the fps to 25 and i run the game in low quality it runs correspondingly 25% faster, but with the quality at high then my machine clearly can't keep up and I get a small speed increase but not the 25% you might expect.
The thing is the game is definitely more responsive at 25fps, but because this is obviously pushing the capability of my own PC i'm loathe to set it to that because anyone with a slower pc will have a slow/choppy experience. On the other hand my pc is pretty crappy so maybe no one has a slower pc.
Basically should I assume my pc is at the lower end of the scale and bung the fps up to 25 or play it safe and set the fps to 20, or even lower?
sorry this is so vague but if anyone has a complete set of CPU demographics for home computers that would be sweet!
Best Way To Handle Different Sizes Or Versions Of Flash Projects
Hello all. I'm a software developer, but I've been doing a bit of flash recently for work. I made a flash widget, but myspace just recently made the tables on their forum postings to be at most 400 pixels. (They really should have done that a long time ago, to be sure... I think they just recently discovered how).
Controls on their forum postings are a maximum 244 pixels wide now. The control I had made was 400x100 pixels wide so it didn't scale well. But, I want to keep the old version around too. It will simply be a matter of copying the .FLA file, and adjusting the sizes in there.
My question is, how do you guys manage these issues? If I change the actionscript code in 1 file, I have to change it in another. If I have to update the symbols, buttons, colors, etc., I have to be sure to do the exact same thing to a separate project. Is there an easy way to manage this problem? Somehow linking them together? Would it be better for me to create a new scene within the movie? (I don't even know how separate scenes work, really...)

I ask because it seems to be impossible to use the advertised feature of importing captivate 3 into flash cs3. I ask here after already asking (and only meeting other sufferers) in the cap. 3 forum, because it's not really an EXPORT from cap. 3, but an IMPORT into flash.

The deal is, I am more into learning ASP.NET 3.5, PHP, Javascript.
But need just a little touch of flash.
I could use these pre-configured Scripts and software that can create Flash banners and slide shows but I would like to learn to do these on my own.
Where do I start?

Kirupa's 2 Flash/XML Slideshow Projects - Melding Together Causes Odd AS Behavior
I've got a Flash file that displays a series of .swfs one after the other and I'm trying to figure out how to encorporate a preloader into this script that takes into account the fact that I'm randomly selecting which of those .swfs to display first.
Here's what the attached script does so far:
1. Call external XML file and put .swf path names into an array.
2. Randomly select one of those .swfs to display first.
3. Once that .swf movie has played through (each one is about 6 seconds long) --OR-- if the "next" button is clicked, load the next .swf file.
4. When we've reached the last .swf file in the list, start back at the beginning of the list.
I have looked at a BUNCH of preloader scripts but just haven't grasped actionscript enough to know how to encorporate them into my file.

How Do You Build Dropdown Menus In Flash? Sample Projects?
How do youu build drop down menus in Flash .. I've seen some menu samples but they are just top level menu items ... I want menus to drop down when you HOVER over the top level menu item ....
Is there a way to do that or are there any sample projects to look at?

[F8] Difficulty Using Flash Videos Within Ulead Video Editor Projects
Hello good people!
Please, I am still very wet behind the ears, a real novice who loves learning and working with the adobe Flash software. I am trying to make a video album using my scanned still photographs. I have made some animations using Flash (Flash 9 CS3 Pro) and would like to export and use this in Ulead Video Editor v10. When I introduce the Flash (*.swf movie) file into the movie timeline of Ulead Video Editor, everything freezes. Before, I was using Macromedia Flash8 Pro and the problem I was having was that when I finished creating a flash file, the *.swf when open was static with nothing playing, while in Flash, the flash file plays without any problem. Now with Flash9, the shockwave file can be seen and it plays but cannot be intergrated into another application for editing movies life Ulead Video Editor.
What am I doing wrong and how do I circumvent this situation?

AS3 Projects And AIR
Hi actionscripters,
I have a bunch of projects that I have made in Flex Builder Pro. I use the plug-in version with Eclipse. I use straight "Actionscript Projects", meaning I don't use any of that mxml stuff or designer mode. I instantiate all my objects in code.
Now I want to build my project as an AIR project. But the Flex plug-in to Eclipse doesn't include the option to target an AIR application in the properties of an "Actionscript Project". I quickly looked at the command line process to build AIR apps and that also seems to work on the mxml flex projects.
Does anyone know how to get Flex to build an AIR application out of a pure Actionscript project (project is made up of AS3 files and libraries)?
I suppose an option is to wrap my as3 project in an mxml project but I don't really have any other reason to use (and learn) that syntax.

Combining AS1 And AS2 Projects?
I have a fla made in AS1 and I am editing it in Flash 8.
1. I want to create scenes that use AS2 in this fla, it that possible?
2. If not can I call AS2 movie clips or swfs from the AS1 fla.
Overall, my problem is how do I combine one fla made with AS1 and other work I have done in AS2. and make it look seemless.

Large As3 Projects
I have bought Flash CS4 and am working on this large AS3 project (only AS3, some images in the libary). Now this project does not compile in CS4 and runs smoothly in CS3.
Adobe tells me on the support pages to create SWC's. I know about SWC's but how do I create SWC's if I am only using AS3. I have no MovieClips in the Library, only some images. My project only uses AS3.
