Fading Symbol On Top Of Symbol?
I'm new to Flash MX and Flash in general. I'm trying to create a simple opening splash page for a website. All I want to do is have one image fade out and a logo fade in in it's place every few seconds. I can get each symbol to fade, but the problem is having them on top of eachother. You can see the image layer on top of the logo layer. Is there anyway to do this?

Is Converting Text To A Button Symbol The Same As Using An Image As A Symbol?
I'm trying to use text as navigation buttons in a flash website instead of image buttons. (I am using Actionscript 2) Any help is appreciated.

Flash Mx, TEXT Problem: Text Blurred When Converted Into A Symbol
hi. thanx for stopping by. i am working on a flash project and i came across a problem involving texts

when i convert a text(static text) to any of the symbols(button, mc, or graphics) the text is blurred. how do i correct this problem? the text is fine when i type it but it's always blurred when it's converted into a symbol.

the reason i am converting text into a symbol is because i want to just load the text without retyping the code for the whole animation. i am also not using dynamic text because i want to add colors to the add, and i believe i can not do that when i load a .txt file (not sure).

any replies are greatly appreciated. thank you in advance

Flash Images And Text Fading In And Out
Hey Guys,

Well this is my first post here, hopefully I'm in the right section, so here it goes...

I mainly design websites using Dreamweaver, and I use Photoshop and Fireworks to make graphics. I'm making revisions to my site, and I wanted to add some animation. I was googleing for some inspiration and found this SWF file:

I basically want to know how this was created, so that I can "put my own twist on it"

I know this has to be a simple concept, because I see it done a lot in modern site designs today...

I've played around with Flash a little bit, so I'm familiar with the interface, basic tweening, creating symbols stuff like that

Hi!

I want to insert a copyright symbol (in html it's © )into a text file (or html file) that is pulled into flash, and viewed as the copyright symbol in flash.

Is this possible? and if so, what's the code i have to use?

Fading And Reverse Fading Text
I'm so new to this it's sick. But I figure I can take a few days and learn as much as I can. I'm building a website wherein I'll have a splash page before entering the main contents of the site.

I'm using Flash 5. On the splash page I want to know how to create a text object that appears in a 'reverse fade' fashion. I imagine a 'reverse fade' function can be done with any object or graphic - I've seen it on these awesome websites listed at FK.

I don't know if I'm evening asking this question right. I'm able to use CoffeeCup Firestarter and make things appear and fade easily (duh - who couldn't with that program) but can't view the code the Firestarter program produces in order to learn how it happened.

Appreciate any help someone could give me.

Fading Text Effect For Rollovers - Flash 5
okay, ive looked around for info on this kind of effect, but havent found what i need...

im using flash 5 -o.0!!- and i have a page with several buttons on it. when you roll over a button, a text title fades in above it. when you roll out, the text title fades out.

this effect can be seen on http://www.orisinal.com/ and on the macromedia site at http://www.macromedia.com/desdev/ (the buttons at the very top fade in & out)

so far, ive got the text bits fading in and out. i have the fade in as part of the over state of the button, and the fade out is a movie clip that plays using actionscripting.

heres my actionscript for the fadeout:

on (rollOut) {

gotoAndStop ("me", 1);
}

the text title fades out fine, however, it 'jumps'. you roll over the button, the text fades in and stays full. then you roll out and the full text disappears and jumps to the beginning of the movie clip. its a real tiny jump, but its noticable. im sorry that i dont have this up somewhere to make it easier to understand, but the jump obviously occurs because its going from the overstate movie clip to a regular movie clip.

id like it to work exactly as it does on orisinal.com, where it fades in & out flawlessly. im just at a loss as to how to do it. if anyone has done this or has any suggestions, itd be a big help ^-^

Nightmare Problem With Flash MX Text Fading
Ok, so I am new at this, but I am not insane. I have made many many movies with fades already so this is really bothersome. Oh, by the way, I already reinstalled flash, thinking that this might be the problem, but it isn't.

I have been working on this problem for several hours and fell like a complete idiot!
I am attempting to make a paragraph of text fade in to a movie.
I already have several layers with other things occuring at the same time and I want my text to fade in after a few seconds so here is what I am doing and it isn't working!

1. I am typing in my paragraph, formatting it how I want it to be and then converting it into a graphic symbol.
I am doing this in a new layer with all the other layers locked.

2.I am then going to the frame farther down the timeline, where I want the alpha of the text to be 100% and pressing F6.

3. Next I am going to the first frame with the first instance of the text paragraph graphic and changing the alpha to 0%.

4. Finally I am going to any frame between the two keyframes on this layer and creating a motion tween from the insert menu.

5. I test the movie with the controller and it works.

6. I test the movie by dragging the playhead across the frames and it works. The text fades.

I test the movie in default: flash, browser and html and it doesn't work. The text is same color all across the movie.

Here is the really hard and inexplicable part....if I go back and change the effect from alpha to advanced and change the color of the text in the paragraph instance in the first frame and then play it, the effect works perfectly and it changes color. Oh, this is also happening if I attempt this in a new movie, new file with newly typed text.

What am I doing wrong here? Please help. I am going out of my mind. I am going to post this in several places on this site tonight, hoping that some dear soul takes pity on me.

Flash Professional Confusion With Fading In Text
I have just downloaded Flash Professional from the Macromedia site. I am confused.
All i wanted to do was to enter one word and fade it in.
In previous versions i would add the word as a symbol, highlight maybe 30 frames away, add the keyframe, then go back select the first - make its alpha value 0% then do a motion tween, my word would then fade in.

I have spent about an hour on this so far and ended using timelines effects as this seemed to be the only answer. Even then i added the word, added the timeline effect over 30 frames (previewing this made no difference to the word) but 30 frames were then entered into the path.

If i then added another layer with a word in just the 1st frame - for some reason this word would fade in over 30, evenalthough its not the word with the effect and its only on 1 frame????????
Whats going on, does anyone know of an easier way?

Fading Text Tutorial Not Working In Flash 8 ?
So simple bit of fading text as per the tutorial (http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/fadingtext.htm) plays and looks perfectly in flash8 its self if you just hit enter.

however if you try publishing it or viewing it with ctrl+enter the text doesnt fade simply slides.

Am i missing an option somewhere to enable it to save out the alpha state's of symbols to the finished .swf ? or is there something more complex to it than that.

FLASH MX (text)symbol Fade With Alpha Transp
I have created graphics in FLASH MX, each on their own layer. Ive then converted each graphic to a graphic symbol. I then have each symbol fading in or out over time using Tweening from 0% to 100% alpha transparency. Everything works great in the FLASH preview. However in my browser(s), text that i have converted to symbols will not fade at all. Any ideas on why and how to achieve this fade out effect with text?

I also have this same text symbol following a Guide Path in a circular motion, Oriented to its Path. Again, it works great in the FLASH preview but in my browser the text symbol simply dissapears when it begins following the motion path.

Flash Menu With Grow/shrink And Fading Text
I am very (very) new to actionscript and am trying to create a menu where when you rollover a button, it grows bigger, and a text title fades in the center of the menu above. There are seven buttons in the menu which run horizontal and I am just tying to get the first button working. I can get the grow part working separately, and the fade part working separately, but when I try to put them together, it grows the whole thing (both the icon and the text - I dont want the text to grow) and it moves both the text and the icon to the bottom left instead of centered.

Symbol Within Symbol Buttons Flash Mx
I have a graphic symbol which is within another symbol and within the graphic symbol are buttons. I want the buttons to play something on the timeline in the previous symbol. I have tried using .root_ but that goes to the main timeline, so how do you go one back?

main timeline > symbol 67 > symbol 84 (button here, want to go to timeline on 67)

Fading Random Ordered Text From External Text File
Newb to flash. Watching various tutorials trying to come up to speed.

What I would like to create is a small flash ap that displays text in a randowm order from an external text file. I wantot create a small text box in the sidebar of a web page where customer references are displayed in random order. (so users dont see the same ones each time) I want the text to fade in and out as the next text item is displayed.

Can someone kindly point me to a resource that is close to helping to create this? Or; is flash the wrong way to go for this?

Linking Text In The Symbol Name To Text In The Graphic?
I have a button graphic symbol I use over and over.

1. I duplicate it
2. Change its symbol name
3. Insert it into the movie
4. Then change the text in the symbol to match the text in the name in step 2

The question is, can I have the text in the name linked to the text in the symbol, through action script? and if so then can I have it work like this, the name for one symbol for example is 'FIC-27' can I have the text in the symbol have two lines (upper and lower) the top line 'FIC' (centered text) and the lower line '27' (centered text)ignoring the '-'? Of corse any new naming conventions for the symbol to get the effect I need are welcome. By the way this is movie creation functionality, not something I need to happen when I play the movie.

Dynamic Text / HTML Text And A Less Than Symbol (<)
I have a dynamic text box into which I am loading text from a database. The text is input into the database via an html based backend that lets a client write a simple email type note, with basic (flash htmltext supported) formating such as bold, italics etc.

All of this works fine.

My problem arises when someone enters a less than symbol ... < ... into their text. The dynamic textbox interprets that < as the start of an html tag and the text stops displaying at that point. I can get around it by converting the < to %3c and having the text go into the dynamic text field's .text variable but that breaks the htmlformatting, so it needs to go into mytextfield.htmltext... problem being when I do that is that the pure < breaks the text string as mentioned above, or if it's converted to %3c.. it shows as %3c, not as a < symbol. Yes, it's a bit confusing.

How can I have a less than symbol appear when entered, yet still retain the html formatting for the dynamic text field?

Vertical Text In Dynamic Text Of A Symbol
I have created a basic symbol with dynamic text, so that I may have many of the same symbol and script the text that shows up on the symbol. When I have the text box in a horizontal orientation the text shows up in my animation but when I turn it into a vertical orientation my text does not show up. Unfortunately I need the symbols to have vertical text. Does anyone have any advice???

I have text showing up in a text area, I know I can make the background transparent, but how do I make the actual text showing up an _alpha of oh say 30 or 40...

I've tried..(inside the onClipLoad event of the text area)

Fading In And Out Text
Right, i'm learning Flash quite quickly, well, at least up until now.

I'm relatively new to it, i'm using version 5 btw.

I'm having problems with text - fading it in and out.

Basically I can do it, but when it fades in / out, some of the letters seem to slightly distort, only fractionally, but they do do it and it ruins the effect.

Ok, how i'm doing it:

I create a layer, then type in the text - Arial font, size 30. Add a second keyframe at say frame 20 for example. I set the alpha for the text in frame 1 to '0' and in frame 20, I set the alpha to '100'. The text is white btw. I then insert a motion tween, break apart the text in frames one and 20, then chage the tween from motion to shape.

The text then fades in fine, but seems, as I said to distort whilst the fade happens - but only very slightly -on letters 'e' and 'k'.

The thing is, If I type in say a small word 'BOO' in caps, it works fine.

The other dilemma is that I created an animation this morning with lower case text in it, and that worked fine - have a look: http://www.slinky.co.uk (we run the site - one of our clients)

If someone could help with this it would be much appreciated.

I'm new to flash. I've got this flash file which has loads of text, which is displayed one line at a time. Each line fades in and then fades out, using alpha/motion tween. This has caused my file to be quite large in size.

Is there a more efficient way to do the fading, ideally without any motion tween? Perhaps some actionscript I can apply to each piece of text which makes it fade in and then fade out? This would save me a lot of time and file size.

[I'm using flash 5 but a flash 4 solution would be better]

I am having trouble fading out a movie clip that has text and a scroll bar included. I change the alpha of the movie clip and everything fads great except the text and the scroll bar. I can get static text to fade but I can't get dynamic too, and the text has to be dynamic to have a scroll bar included. Any ideas?

Hey guys,
Im having some trouble making my text fade in and out. Ill explain to you what I did.

1. Had 1 Layer as a Background
2. Inserted New Layer named "Quote Fade"
3. Created New Graphic Symbol Named "Quote"
-The Symbol was just text
4. Stretched the Background Layer to frame 31
5. On Layer "Quote Fade" I put a keyframe on frame 2.
6. On frame 2 of Quote Fade I inserted the graphic
7. On Quote Fade I inserted a keyframe on frame 31, then 11, then 21.
8. On frame 2 of Quote Fade I clicked the graphic and lowered the alpha to 0
9. on frame 11 I made the alpha 100
10. on 21 I made the alpha 100
11. on 31 I made the alpha 0
12. I motion tweened from fram 2-11
13. motion tweened from 21-31

When I push enter on the timeline it works there, but when I preview it it doesn't fade at all and its just white text the whole time.

WHY!? What do I need to do?

There's just one thing I can't get my finger on.

How do you do those text things that come up and fade away?
Like, A text appears from the left, it has a fading shadow and then when it reches the middle, it totally fades away slowely?

Using MX2004, I'm creating a projector presentation.

I want to have my bullet point text fade in. Some of the characters seem to have the corners clipped until it hits the last frame. I created the tween by typing the text, break apart twice, then tweened in the alpha on the fill color on the shapes. It just doesn't look right until the last frame. Is there a way to avoid the clipping?

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me.

On my website i want the text to fade in, everytime you go to a new page.

Am using the device fonts options for my text so its sharp and clear. I can't use the brightness to fade in the text, because i have a feint background, and using device fonts won't allow me to use the alpha to fade in the text.

So does anyone know any other way. Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi all,

I am brand new to flash and just learning the basics. I was playing around with tweens and can fade in/out graphics or shapes by creating a motion tween with the first keyframe set at an alpha of 0% and the last keyframe at an alpha of 100%. However if I use the exact same process but with text it doesn't work....the fade in appears in the timeline but if I test the movie it shows up at 100% for the entire duration. Why does it work in the timeline but not in the test movie? What might I be doing wrong or what is the right way to fade text in/out? Thanks a lot for your help,

I have one movie that so far displays a menu and title bar In the title bar I have some text that should fade in and out.

The text is a movie clip that if I play it in the library it works fine if I place it in the main movie it just diplays the text when it comes to the end of its timeline no fading at all ,also it is running in the main movie on its own layer.

I must be doing somthing wrong.

i need some advice on some animation. can anyone point me to a post on fading text? what i'm trying to do is have words fade in and out on top of a graphic bkgd i created. question is: do i need to create a graphic of the faded text and then place that into a movie clip? i want the fade to loop while they're on the page. i hope this makes sense. i couldnt find any post that could help me out. Any help would be appreciated!!
