External Files And Folders In Flash Movie
Hi , I want to make a flash movie with externaly loaded music , it would like music player . But i want to make it so that i just have to put music file to a folder , and not to change any code in flash or in xml for music to apear in list within flash movie . I want the same for folders to for ex. i have a folder called Musics and all folders and files in that folder i want to appear in flash movie .

I think it can be done in php but i dont rrealy know php programming ...
If you didnt undertand me , plz tell me , i will try to explain it better

Accessing Files/folders Inside Other Application Folders
How can I have an asc file from one application read text files in another applications directory?

I have multiple applications creating text files stored in a directory called docvid (this is my application directory). I also have another completely different application that needs to access these text file. How do I use the "sandbox" stuff to allow this other application to read these text files?

This code works fine:
custEmail = new File("/streams/"+userName+"/"+"email.txt");

but this doesn't
custEmail = new File("../email.txt");
It says:File operation open failed.

Creating External Folders

Creating External Folders And Files
Hi,

I need to get Flash MX to create external folders. I have had a look at the I think that it should be done using php files, but I don't know how.

I want to name the new folder the name of a variable is stored in a dynamic textbox in flash (the variable of the dynamic textbox is: 'showu');

How do I make a folder with the name that is stored in the dynamic textbox.

I have another question.

I also want to create a .txt file with the name that is in the dynamic textbox 'showu' and put in this file the text: 'loadedpassword=' and then a password which is stored in a another dynamic textbox with the variable:
'showt'.

How do I do this?

Loading External Files From Different Folders
I'm creating a complicated movie made up of many flash files. I'm in the process of creating one movie file to "link" them all together, using an empty movie clip and loading the external files into it. But I'm having a big problem doing that because I have different subfolders for each topic and it's not allowing  me to go from one to another.

For instance, my main movie is an intro to home improvement. There are several buttons along the side. The first button loads a file about windows. The second one about doors. The third about floor. I have created a subfolder in the same directory for "windows", "doors", and "floors". There are about 50 files in each folder.

Now I can use the "windows" button to load ONE file (example: shades) that is located in that folder. But from within the "shades" file, if I try to click on "curtains" - it attempts to access it from the original folder I started from. And therefore cannot access any other files in that folder!

In an attempt to clarify this is my folder structure:

D:HomeImprovementmainfile.swf

D:HomeImprovementwindowsshades.swf
D:HomeImprovementwindowscurtains.swf

D:HomeImprovementdoorsknobs.swf
D:HomeImprovementdoorsfrenchDoors.swf

mainfile.swf contains all the buttons with an action loading an external file such as
on(release) {contentsMC.loadMovie("windowsshades.swf");}
That worked fine.

Now the "shades.swf" file contains a button with an action:
on(release) {contentsMC.loadMovie("curtains.swf");}

But when I try to click on the button, when I originate from  "mainfile" I get this error:

Error opening URL "file:///D|/HomeImprovement/curtains.swf"

Why does it not recognize that I am no longer in that folder  but am now in HomeImprovement/Windows??

I hope I am making myself clear. This is a very big deal for me. I've set up hundreds, if not thousands of files to manipulate this way!!

is it possible to close a program folder from inside a flash 5 movie?
this is wat i want to happen: a cd is inserted into the cd drive and a flash file runs via 'autorun'. if in 20 seconds a pass word is entered then nothing happens. if no password or the wrong password is entered then i want the folder titled 'm drive' (or wateva) to close. is this possible

the last few sites ive uploadedhave had a folder structure like
images folder
flash folder
html/asp docs

i noticed
that if i try and simply load another file from the flash folder into fla**** fails...more so when its in a sub folder in flash...it just cant find it i end up having to dump everything into one directory...

im using simple AS
loadMovie("images/pan2.jpg",_parent.parttwo)

its weird cause it works localy anyone ever stumble on this...?

Hello there,
I 've made a cd with an autorun.inf which loads a flash exe.
When clicking on a button I want the exe to open a cd folder.
This can be done with:
on (press) {
getURL("Java/", "_blank");
}

My problem is that I want the button to open the window ON TOP of the projector.
So far, depending on whether the user has already got an open browser (windows or internet explorer) s/he can not see the opened window (it is opened behind the exewhich is set to fullscreen).

Can anyone help?

Renaming Flash Folders And Publishing
I am going to have to move Flash folders at work and maybe even rename them. The people I work with are not going to understand that they have to reset the publishing command to make sure Flash publishes to the correct folder and name since it's been changed. It's been my experience that it will look for the older folder name. Is there a way I can avoid this hassle? I don't believe there is, but I might as well try and ask.

[Flash 8] Adverts And Watch Folders
Hello,

I'm not exactly a newbie to flash but it has been a long time since i have used it in for anything more than simple graphics and banners. I'm basically looking for some advice as to how to go about a task.

What I am looking to do is to create a way of displaying a random variety of adverts on our company website which link to products and other pages. The steps I would like it to go through are below:

1 - One swf preloads and fades in which is displayed, say for 10 seconds.

2 - While the first swf is displayed another is preloaded and after 10 seconds or when it has finished loading (which ever is longest) the 1st fades out and 2nd is faded in. etc etc.

What I would ideally like to be able to do is place all the swfs in a watch folder and have flash read the contents and load them in a random order. I want to do it this way so I don't have to keep adding to the actionscript each time we add a new advert.

Is there a way of using watch folders in actionscript? If anyone can advise me as to which methods to use or how to structure this project I would be most grateful!

Linking Folders To Flash - Question
Hello everyone,

first post, - i am a flash novice.

After doing some of the great tutorials, i ask myself always the same question.
For example, i made the complete video player basics and there you have to say flash the filename of the video in the AS.
This means, when you want the player to play another video, you have to change the AS, (write in the new file name from new movie) -right?

How do i say flash to play a movie from a folder? (I want that flash plays a movie file from a specific folder, no matter what the name of the video is.)
This would be a great advantage, as i can simply put a new movie into a folder and the video player plays it, whitout having to change the AS.

This could also be used for slide shows etc.

If you could give me only search keywords, i would be happy.

Loading Flash Movies From Separate Folders
Good morning/afternoon/evening, here is my latest problem:

Normally I have kept my swfs and html's in one folder. But with my latest project, I have the swfs in separate folders.

How does one go about accessing one swf from another? I have tried stuff like:

loadMovie("flash/target_base.swf", 1)

loadMovie("./flash/target_base.swf", 1)

loadMovie("../flash/target_base.swf", 1)

I even tried a real complex one like:

moviePath = _root._url.substring(0, _root._url.lastIndexOf("/"))+"/";
loadMovie(moviePath+"target_base.swf", 1);

Alas, nothing. I am sure it is just something stupid (as it always is with me) but any light on this situation would be much appreciated!

How To? - Have Flash Dynamically Construct A Gallery Through Folders?
I'm not exactly the most actionscript savvy person so I was wondering if someone could take some time out and help me create a dynamic photo gallery in Flash. I want to be able to put as many images as I want into a folder and subfolders and such and have Flash be able to detect all those folders and images and their respective thumbnails.

For instance, if I had the folder IMG on my server, and I had 5 images in there, and another folder IMG2, with 3 more images, the gallery would display the thumbnails for the 5 images in IMG, and an icon for the IMG2 folder. Upon clicking the IMG2 folder, it would load the thumbnails for the 3 more images, and any other folders in there.

When the viewer clicks a thumbnail it should then and only then load the picture and expand it to fill the "viewing area" which would otherwise be the directory structure with thumbnails.

Thumbnails should only be loaded upon opening of a folder

If anyone could link me, give me a guide, walk me through, or say that I can ask them questions through instant messaging, or any help whatsoever, that would be awsome.

Auto-starting Flash CD Project With Invisible Folders...Possible?

I got a Cd project.I will design a cd presentation for a company, it will be similar to a website.
I will make it as a website with folders BUT I don't want the folders be visible on cd.When we explore the cd, I just want to see a autostart file, or an exe. Preferably, I need a auto-starting cd.

Is it possible and how?

Accessing Local Folders With Flash Application Running Locally
I have built a flash audio player, and have compiled it into an application. My problem is how can I use actionscript or anything else to enable a browse function to open the local folders like My Music? I have looked all over the internet and can not find anything on this.

For example if I build an HTA application, I can use an Active Object such as this one:

I'm trying to make an Active Desktop using Flash MX and I need a way for the user to click on a button, labeled 'my computer' for example, and for the 'my computer' window to pop up. The same thing needs to happen for 'my pictures', 'my music', 'my videos', 'control panel', and 'media player'.

Ok, so I know this is dumb, but... A book I'm reading on Flash asks to create a new empty folder in which I'll save and export all my movies. Next, I'm to create 3 movies and save them in the folder I created in the 1st step. How do I save new files inside of folders? And how do I access this folder after I've closed Fash?

LoadMovie Across Folders
I have several projects I want to put on a standalone CD. I'd like to have a Flash autorun movie where the user could click to see any of the projects. However, the projects are currently in separate folders. It would be a big job to put everything in a single folder, because the filenames are not unique. Any hope?

Does anybody have any idea how I can load Images from a folder. I wan't to do a portfolio in flash but don't want users to have to load a hudge site. I want them to be able to only have to load what they click one. So I want to use folders so everything doesn't have to load at once. Anybodody know where I can finda good tutorial on this?

Can anyone help with the answer to:

How do you name a SWF so you can save it to a Folder within a Folder (and so on)and still be able to call it.

For instance, I would like to have a seperate Folder for each of my site pages and the additional swf's I may create for each of those pages be in a seperate Folder as well (just to keep things organized)

I seem to remember my teacher saying something about the naming conventions but I can't seem to find my notes.

That didn't work, what am I doing wrong?

I tried the following with the http:// before the c:/

c:/documentsandsettings/folder_1/folder_2/gallery.html

then,

http:\c:documentsandsettingsfolder_1folder_2g allery.html

I even tried it with just the c:

C:documentsandsettingsfolder_1folder_2gallery. html

And nothing.

Will this only work when it's uploaded on to the server?

If so how do I test it on my computer before uploading it?

Let me explain it in my own madness,

I've created several .fla files (Index, Gallery, etc.. 5 total) each to serve as a seperate PAGE on my site.

I added all the content, buttons, whatever and then published each as a Flash/html and saved them to a Folder on my Desktop.

Now I want to move all of these Published Files (PAGES) .swf, .html and whatever other content I've created for each individual PAGE into their own respective Folders within the first Folder, All except for the Index.html PAGE.

I then want to be able to link to all the PAGES from all other PAGES

I'm sorry I'm really having a hard time getting this ActionScript thing down

Autodetecting Folders?
Hey!!

I was considering using flash to make a photogallery. After reading a bit in here I found that it would be fairly easy to make some actionscript that would autodetect picturefiles and display them in the flash file. However, for this photogallery I will need to use folders, which might change names and new folder might be added or removed. All the folder and file management will happen via an FTP client, so I dont have to worry about that. So I was just wondering is there a way to autodetect and display folders in the same way as picturefiles in flash? If not I will just have to use PHP, but it would be good if actionscript was up to the task.

Hi guys i need help me!
I have a main folder that contains my main movie
then i created another folder inside the main one and i have a flash movie there with an index of news.
now everytime i click on the title of the news i wanna load a movie clip with the news text

this is what i do:
from a button in the main movie

on (release) {
loadMovieNum("archive_news.swf", 2);
}

now from the buttons on the titles of the news of the archive_news.swf i wanna load the movie that contains the single news i clicked on

seems like i cant do it!

[F8] Flv To Swf Has 2 Linked Folders?
I am building a web site that I want to have a video in it. I am using flash 8 professional. I had an AVI, used flash encoder to make a flv copy. Now, if I understand correctly I can't place the flv file into the web site I need it to be a swf file. If I load the flv into flash and do a "save as" a swf, I get a small swf file linked to the original flv file.
In other words, I need to have the small swf and the flv file in the web page or the video won't play. If I click on the swf file explorer opens up and the movie will start playing but I delete the flv file clicking on the swf will open up IE but it will have a blank screen.
Can any own tell me what I am doin wrong? If this were done correctly shouldn't there be just one swf file when I "save has" an swf file while in flash?

Using .as Files From Other Folders
i've made some Classes, that take care of movement in games. i use them for multiple games. the way i do it now is pretty bad. i just copy the files into the folders of the different games, every time i change them. i dont use package names either. just package{class ..}. i hate to have to copy them all the time.
is there a way to have a folder called games
games
game1
game1Clas.as
game2
game2Clas.as
movementClasses
mClass1.as
mclass2.as
and let both game1 and game 2 use the .as files from the movementClasses folders?
i already googled, but could find a straight answer.

Using Folders And Loadmovie
I have a folder of images in the same location as my flash web site and I can access the images using...

Image1.loadMovie("Images\JPG01.jpg");

But how do I access images that are 1 folder up from the web site? For example (folder structure)...

Website
Images

I've tried...

Image1.loadMovie("..\ImageFolders\JPG01.jpg");

Like the old DOS command I'm using .. to move back one folder and then navigate from there. But it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any clues how I should do the syntax in flash?
