Hello there,
I am a new Flash user and I am facing a huge problem with a project I got to do. I am wondering if I can connect my flash form to an SQL Server database. I know that this could be achieved with MySQL and PHP, but I prefer to work with SQL Server.
If anyone knows where I can find some commands or scripts or can provide me with any help, please reply to my message.

is it possible to put all the info in a database (eg: acces ..?!) and let flash load data out of it ...

Hello there, this is my first time on these forums and I dont really know where to go so the general area seems a good start. Im creating a CD ROM for my final year project at university and want to put some database elements in. The problem is that I am on a creative course and have never used a database in my life. I have to learn one from scratch but am uncertain as to whether or not Flash can work with databases, and was just wondering if anyone could offer up an answer or suggestions.

Im a designer and the sales team have asked me if i can install a visual brouchure on there laptops selling expensive furniture to lots of different car showrooms.

they want to flick page by page on each item, click on a quantity on the page the picture is on, and at the end using prices we know (which changes rarely) to add up the items and list them (possibly with pictures!).

has anybody ever done anything remotley like this!??? I would love to use flash as i can set it up as a viewer and make it much slick rather than in HTML....

Hi all, I am using Flash MX2004, and I have a problem. I am a student completing my final project. I want to create an application that will allow a user to browse through many recipes. With these recipes they can see all the ingredients with a quantity and also view a page of suppliers for each individual recipe. All of this data is held in a SQL Database. There are five tables named as follows: Recipes, RecipeIngredients, Ingredients, IngredientSuppliers, Suppliers. I now need to know how to read from the database and display the information. I have all the sql done, and can provide if needed.

Any help will be grateful.

I am totally new at this in Flash, but I was curious.
If one wanted to, let's say, create a Search field in Flash or have users submit queries etc to a database, what software would one use?

Is there a specific software that works best or are there many options out there? Is there a certain software that works for Flash apps as well as Dreamweaver/HTML apps?

Hi, everyone!
I`m a PHP newbie. I just learned PHP so that I can use databases with Flash.
I`ve got a .php script that contains html that loads up my .swf file. The .swf file is the core of my site. What I want to know is if I can call some PHP functions (that I have wrote in the .php script) from within the .swf file... This functions would perform the reading and updating of my database.
The only way I know of to modify a database from Flash is using the POST and GET methods. But that opens up a new browser window in which the PHP script is called. And that only handles writing in the database. So, what if I just want to read from the database some values and insert them into a TextField in Flash? How do I do that?

ok, I have an interesting dilemma. I'm setting up a website that has a classified ads section, and I wanted to make it dynamic, so that I don't have to sit there and re-do a bunch of work every day (nor do I want my friend, whose site it is, to have to do too much).

Initially, I was gonna use an Access database to store the information and pull it up in Flash, but I just found out that you can't run Access dbs on anything but a Windows server, and the service I use runs Linux.

At any rate, I'm pretty stumped... any suggestions?

I was wondering if there are any good tutorials or books that introduce you to using databases with flash. I have heard it is a good thing to learn and would like to do so in time.
I don't know a great deal about it at the moment and do not know what the best database technologies are to be used with flash. I have heard XML is a gooden, and have a bit of experience with that when it comes to XHTML pages, but never flash?

Just any beginner material for it or tips would be great,

Can Flash & XML Be Used For Databases?
I want to make a Flash interface where my co-workers can either enter data into a database, or search the data base for a customer number for example. Everything would be used on our internal network and the files would be local to our company server.

Is this possible? I'd be making the database and Flash front-end from scratch and would be able to use XML if needed.

I would need users to be able to access the database as well as adding files to it (that's the hard part)

I haven't used MYSQL or PHP so any work arounds would be nice, but if anyone knows a good tutorial, I could probably sort it out.

AS2 or AS3 is fine.

If I have a text in a database and I want to show that text on the front page of my flash site. Could I load that text from the database into a movie clip?

Forms In Flash And Databases?
Is there any way to use forms in Flash 5 without having to use a server that runs a database and db files written in something like asp. The only way I can think of would be to submit an email to whatever party needs the information. However, I have no idea how to create the email from Flash so that when you submit information from text fields an email is automatically sent and it is easy for the recipient to read.

Does anyone know:

1.) Is there a better way than using email for what I want to do? (Aside from using a DataBase)

2.) If email is the only way, how does one submit infomation from text fields into an email which then gets automatically sent?

2b.) How do you make the information placed into an email easy to read for the recipient?

Let me first say.......I am still a newbie but I thought I would still ask.

A friend of mine wants me to build a music flash site but also wants me to have link to a FileMaker Pro database that is password protected for multiple users.

My question is...........how can they make changes or updates to this database if this file is not on a shared network? Is this even possible without having the file on a network?

I know that some of the engineers at work can do this, but it's an intranet and they share files that are password protected.

I want to be able to guide him in what he needs to do in order to make this possible.

Any help will be appreciated.

I did offer a my client to do a better website for him -> looks ****ty and didn´t work properly.
but what I didn´t know he does use a database where he fills in dates and a script automatically
picks the 3 most recent ones to come when you open the page. And there we go I nevered worked with databases in the web.
I do have a basic understanding of databases and I can see how it was done in the old page - but this one
was made in html -> and I ( more on the design thing ) wanna do his side in flash. I do have access to books (php..)
but i can´t (time) and don´t wanna go through them now.

So does anyone know any tutorials or any open .fla´s were something like this was done.

Can somebody help me with this??

I am designing an interactive map that allows users to get informtation about certain places on it. I have done all the graphics work including zoom in/out, scoll, rollover buttons etc but im stuck with how to do the dynamic text.

When a user rolls-over a location button on the map i want to display the information text on the stage. However the details are subject to constant change and therefore need to come from a database.

I use ASP and SQL for this sort of thing usually but have no idea how to intergrate with a flash movie.

Flash And Linking To Databases
I have very limited actionscripting and PHP and ASP coding skills.

I am about to create a website for a nightclub and want the site to be in Flash. However I'm worried about how the site is to be maintained. There will be for example new photos uploaded to the site every week as well as news etc etc. I could do it myself, but ideally I'd like the client to do that.

What are my options?

Can I set up the site in Flash and hand it over to a coder who will link the various sections to a database? Is it that easy? The coder will obviously have to know Flash and actionscripting?

Can a Content Management System (CMS) be set up so that the client can do his/her own updating?

Or would the best way to go would be to make a hybrid of HTML/Flash. Would that be the easiest? But then I'm negating a lot of effects that I could achieve with Flash.

Ideas, thoughts?

Flash & Databases Not Working

I made a site http://lotr.rmsarat.ro and I made the scripts with PHP & MySQL. They seem to work, but, as you can see, the main page and the register page are in Flash and they can't access the database and I don't know why?!? At my PC it works with an Apache server, but when I sent it all to web, the pages in Flash couldn't access the database. It's strange! Please, help!

Salut! I'm new to the forums and hopefully this can be the start of something beautiful. I'm a junior web designer from the city of London and I'm learning flash... however I have a major concern with some dynamic stuff.

At the moment I'm looking to port a myspace profile with a swf that uses data from a database - however obviously myspace blocks out call scripts such as using an XML/ASp page...

soooooo here's my question - can I create a swf that calls data direct from a database and if so can you point me in the right direction in terms of book etc.

Also is Swfmill a good app to use for xml producing swfs? Any replies much thanks

Ok I am really lost on this. Is there not a simple way to do this? The only thing I can find is http://www.flash-creations.com/notes...m_database.php but you seem to need to install a lot of stuff to get it to work? I have found many tutorials about how to read from a database but pretty much nothing about writing to one from a flash form through php? Is there not just a nice simple tutorial or way to do this?

I was wondering is there a way in Flash to create a form where when a user hits submit the data is placed into a database, csv or xml file without the use of ASP, PHP or any other server-side scripting languages? Reason being is that this form needs to run locally on a machine without internet access.

I'm looking for a simple way to connect to a database, is this possible using Flash MX2004 professional. I'm not looking for a php or ASP connection I can't use this in the application I'm goining to develop.

Or is there a third-party plug-in to do this, for example is it possible to connect to an access or sybase database and retrieve data using SQL?

Last: what is the difference between 'MX2004' and 'MX2004 pro' looking at databases.

It seems really good.
As far as I understood there are three ways to get data and send data to a database from flash:
1. Using ASP.NET where an aspx page delivers the data in XML.
2. Using ASP.NET where an aspx page delivers the data in Plain Text.
3. Using Flash Remoting.

In your opinion which way you think is better?

I'm just starting into this thing of connecting flash with database. :-)

Is there any forum, sample code or people which usually connect flash with SQL or Access database using ASP.NET?

I'm making a website for kids and on the profile page there is a character that you can change the clothes of (there is a Flash movie clip for Hats, Eyes, Hair etc. with a nextFrame and prevFrame arrow to change the colour of the items respectively).

I need to connect this in PHP to a database so that you can save the clothes that the user picks (or the current frame of each movie clip)and this is then saved as their profile picture.

As it stands, I have created a variable on each frame of say the hatColour movie clip to set a variable (frame 1 hatColour="red"; frame 2 hatColour="blue" and so on)
The Actions layer on the main timeline then has

I have 1 Dynamic Textbox on my flash document, named [entries_txt]. So! I've gotten connected via PHP, and got the variables into Flash, now for the question...

How can I write data to my database via flash? I think I should send it to the PHP, but I don't know how I'd do this. Can anyone help?

i have tried all the logins, here which are flash, and use asp to do the actions, and mdb to store the login names.
But i cant get any to work, why not?

I am working on an atlas application that when you press on a region's button, a page on the area is displayed containning some text, an image, and allows you to listen to a music sample.
I 'd like to use a database external to flash to store the pictures, sounds and texts.

Question On Databases, And Relationship With Flash
Hello, im new to databases, and tried researching it on other past posts but didnt quite find what i was looking for:

Im making a program and need it to be able to comunicate with a database that resides on my computer (the flash program running with also be on my computer, ruinning in flash player), read from it, and also write to it, not necisarily ADDING fields, but changing the values within current ones.

I am curious what i need to do this. I know i need an acualy database program, and then somthing to mediate between it and flash.

Can i use somthing like MS access to create my databse, or maybe even somthing as simple as Excel? I would love to be able to create the database, and then go in and open it and manualy make some changes (access and excel seam easy to do this in).

But then comes the tricky part, comunicating between the two. This is the part im completely in the dark about.

Could you please tell me:

What database i can use, and what "middle-man" i need to use with it?

Point me in the direction of how i can find out the coding needed to make them comunicate?

It always seems like theres so much information to be lost in translation if you get really involved with it.

I'm doing a project that uses it like every two seconds.. Every piece of information is taken from a database basically... It just seems like theres so much room for error with the whole SendAndLoad method...

Whats the easiest way to mess with a database?

[F8] Integrating FLASH With Access Databases
Greetings all!

My question is simple. I have a very basic Access Database. I created a FLASH movie to pull the information dynamically through an ASP page. I attached the code for this process below. If anyone can tell me how to do this in FLASH 8 with current Actionscript I'd be very interested, however it is not why I am posting this question.

My question is how would I display a URL from the Access Database as an actual URL in FLASH? I have the database field listed as a hypertext field. I think the problem is the ASP page pulling the data, losing the hyperlink and feeding the raw text to the FLASH movie without a link. Is there way in FLASH to tell anything with http:// to display as a hyperlink? Or is there a better way to do this?

Another suggestion my be storing images directly in Access. Not sure if that can be done. I'm trying to reference a PDF document through hyperlink or image dynamically from the Access database to FLASH. Hyperlink seemed like the easiest way.
