Hello , when i try to use vbulletin commands in flash , it doesn't seems to work.
I replaced the header buttons of a vbulletin board ( user cp , search , calendar , faq , ... ) in a swf and i gave the following action to my button

on (release,releaseOutside) {
tempURL = "/members.php?action=logout=" + session[sessionhash];
getURL(tempURL, "_parent");
}

(this is the logout button)

but when i press it i get this:
/members.php?action=logout=
and not
member.php?s=[sessionhash]&action=logout

can somebody please tell me what to do.

and than for the (example) total members i created a dynamic textfield with the varname: numbermembers

but this won't work

Calling Up HTML Page From Flash Pop-up
i'm builiding a html site with a "flash toy".

The flash element is accessed via a pop-up window and from the flash i would like to call up a particular html page in the parent window.

so far i've succeeded in openiong the desired page in the pop-up window and a blank window but not the parent/main window.

i can't find anything in the actionscript tutials that does this.

i know that it will take a happy Marriage of Actionscript and Javascript........

Just one question... I have a PHP index file, where I include several files (instead of using frames). In my menu.php i have my flash file with buttons and I want the flash file to call up e.g. index.php?id=3
when needed. How do I do this?

Calling An HTML Page From Flash
What is the proper way to call an HTML page from within Flash. Right now I have this script on my button:

on (press) {
getURL("feature.htm", "self");
}

but the HTML page takes several seconds to come up and it comes up in it's own window instead of replacing the original page.

Is it better to use the whole path http:// etc... even though I am still working on this and it would realy be a pain to have to upload every time I need to check something.

Flash Problems With Vbulletin In IE
hello,

on my vbulletin forum (http://www.actoguitar.com/showthread.php?t=143) i've embedded swf files into some of the threads. this works fine in firefox, but in IE, i just get a flash logo that, when clicked, takes me to the macromedia site. i have tried this on several different computers and keep getting the same result.

any thoughts on what could be causing this, or how i can fix it? the link in the first sentence illustrates the problem (when viewed in IE).

I need some tips on how to do this. I am new to AS but i havea good knowledge of PHP so its easy to catch on.
What i am trying to do is when a user view a certain thread which has attachment in the first post ( a music attachment ) i want to replace that attachment with a flash player.

Now Most of that is done inside the vB theme options which i can do. But how would I do this: upon a user hitting play the player gets the postid from a phpfile then executes another file which retrieves the media file and sends the info back.

I know this is probably a questions to those certain someone's that have knowledge in both AS and vB. Sorry

Calling A User Defined Flash Function From A Web Page
Can someone tell me if this is possible. I've got a flash navigation movie in the top frame of a 2 frame web page. Inside the swf I've written a function called "open menu" that takes 3 parameters and does what it sounds like it does within the flash navigation.
My question is ..
Can I call this function and pass in parameters from an html page and have the flash navigation react the same way as inside the swf itself ? I've got an "href only" nav bar on the bottom of the page in the main frame that has
the same navigation elements as the flash navigation and I'd like the top navigation to react accordingly.

Is this possible and if so how.

Flash Crashing When Calling Remote .aspx Page
Has anyone had this issue and solved it:

Note, it only happens on my mac (intel 20" iMac, software full updated).

My fla calls a .aspx page which returns xml data for the site content. For testing purposes while in flash I call the file using the complete address... eg: www.site.com/getinfo.aspx . In Windows this works fine and stops me having to upload to test and saves time. On my mac when I try test like above Flash closes and gives me an error. I have this code in my AS:

System.security.allowDomain ("http://www.testsite.com/");

Please if anyone has experienced this and knows how to solve it? I love my Mac I'd rather work on it.

I am trying to work out how to call a routine that is located in the script of a page from a FLASH button on that page. Placing the onClick in the object in HTML doesn't seem to work. Any thoughts??

Flash Banner In Vbulletin Header Question/Options
Group,

I am using Vbulletin for my message board and I just added a flash animated banner to my boards header area. I have my banner working fine right now but what I am running into for problems is that with every link I click on and the page refreshes so does the banner and after awhile this is going to get really old considering there is animation and sound.

Does anyone know of a way that I can either place a cookie on my members computer that will stop the banner from repeating itself after so many views and then give them a text link to click on that will let them play the animated version of the banner? (I have a static and an animated version)

Or how about having the static version of the banner as the default view and then giving them a text link that says "Play Intro" or something like that?

Is there anyone here who can give me some good ideas on what is available that I can do with flash? Im freely open to suggestions, ideas, and code if anyone has anything.

Display 150 Page Text File In Page Format In Flash
What i would like to do is grab the text from a 150 page text file and display it in flash. Sure i could just open up a pdf from the file but thats not what i want to do. I want the text to be in the flash frame.

How would i go about this? I don't know anything about VB or mysql. I saved the file as an xml file could i somehow import that?

Loading A URL Variable From Text File And Calling It Within Flash ?
Hi, I'm building an mp3 player. I have no problem getting the variables to load into flash. Here is what that actionscript looks like:

In the output I can see the values of my variables being traced. No problem. When I try to use the external variable in another action script it always comes back undefined. How is that i'm receiving the variables into flash fine, but can't use them? I think it has something to do with the way i'm calling it. I'm calling them the same way the trace is working :

On the exernal text file, I'm bringing in the mp3 URL's, the name of the song, and the artist. Here is how I'm trying to use the variables that I brought in:

The text boxes are displaying "undefined" as well.

Any help or ideas?

PHP Text Into A Flash Page
Scenario: Flash page which needs the "Latest News" fed in.

The client has access to OpenCMS where she can change that file (and only that file.)

I create a php page which calls that file's content into it.

Now, I want that php file called into a certain section of the Flash document to display the "Latest News" So that it fits in the page...the layout is like this:

ROTATING IMAGE ROTATING IMAGE ROTATING IMAGE
ROTATING IMAGE LATEST NEWS ROTATING IMAGE

I get that I need to put the text into a dynamic text field, multiline, wrap, etc.

What I don't know is how to call the PHP file in so that it plops the text from the OpenCMS file into that field.

Please help. This is fairly urgent!

I know it can be done with a text file and I know a text box can be adjusted to use HTML tags, so is there a way to display the contents of the body tag inside a text box in Flash?

Calling A Text File Into Dynamic Text Field
I'm relatively new to Flash so please forgive any obvious questions! I've searched for ages and come up with lots of results about loading XML into Flash, but my problem is more basic than that.

I'm creating a site where each page is pretty much text. I want to achieve this by loading text files into dynamic text fields, since it's easier for me to maintain text files that regenerate movie clips etc.

I have figured out how to load a text file into a dynamic text field and how to use the 'read as HTML' option to invoke HTML formatting - but I've hit the (apparently common, judging from Google) problem about whitespace. As soon as I have a carriage return in the text file, all subsequent text is ignored.

I'm detailing what I've done below and would really appreciate any help

1. Create flash document
2. Add a dynamic text field
3. Set the instance name of this text field to be 'Text1'
4. Set the 'var' for this text field to be 'Text1'
5. Created a text file in Notepad named 1.txt and saved in same location as the .fla
5. In frame 1 (which also happens to be where the text field is placed) I have the following code:

I THINK I need to add some code somewhere about whitespace but I'm not sure what it is or where it should go...

Most of the above has been achieved through trial and error, copying things I've found online - not through any detailed understanding of what I'm doing so it is quite likely I've been stupid somewhere along the line!

Retreiving Input Text In Another Page In Flash 5
I am having a form filled out with several products on a movie clip that I will call "umbrellas" ... then another movie clip will be another product... My question is this... I want to have the customer fill in the text boxes of the form of the quantity they want and this with the email goes to a final form that summarizes the products he is getting (no costs though)... how in flash do I carry over an input text field to another page?

I have tried everything... can you give me step by step..
example...
a. I created a text input field for email address called "email" as the variable name... in the movie clip called "umbrellas"

b. Then on the page it should show up automatically I want this field to show up so I can submit this and it will go to my email address.... Should I now set up a dynamic text field with the variable of email=umbrellas.email

Dynamic Flash Text In HTML Page
I saw an HTML web site a few months ago (some luxury car site) where the titles within each page had been typed into the source code of the HTML page (something like: title_text="My title"), but when viewed in a browser, the text was passed through an swf file on-the-fly and rendered, which meant you could have basically any font you wanted for your titles without using a graphic image (so long as the font was embedded in the swf file).

Of course, I have completely forgotten what the web site was!

Does anyone know how this is done and have an example to show me?

Banging my head against a wall with this one...

Trying to put some hidden text at the top of an ASP page (can even be JavaScript) that will fill in a few dynamic text fields in a flash file.

Would just use a .txt file but each page needs to have different text using the same flash file.

Have trailed the net all afternoon looking for the answer, found a few tutorials but my asp/javascript/actionscript understanding is so rubbish, can't even begin adapt anything to work:

How do I create a text page for my Flash site to enable "crawlers" to find it? Because my site is all Flash (ctmgroupinc.com) web browsers can't find it. I was told a text page can be created and linked to the site. This will allow crawlers to find the key words. Does anyone know how to create this? Is there a template I can start with? I'm html coding challenged.
