Help Controlling Main Flash File From Imported Flash File
i have a main flash file, and i have imported another swf into a movieclip in the main flash file. there is a stop in the main file and the imported swf plays. what i need to do is have the imported swf tell the main file when it is done playing. so in the last frame of the imported swf, i need it to go to a frame labeled "finish" in the main flash file.

any idea how to do this?

How To Make A Flash File Launch Another Flash File In Same Web Page.
I don't think what I'm trying to do is too difficult. I'm developing a home page using Dreamweaver. The home page is set up as a table with several columns and rows that create several cells. I've created a swf file converted from an avi file produced with a video editor tool. It's a talking head movie in two parts, two separate swf files.

When the web visitor arrives at the home page, the first part talking head swf file is activated and welcomes the web visitor. The talking head swf file "speaks" for a minute and then fades to white against a white web page background.

This first swf file opens in a table cell in the upper left of the page. When the first swf file ends and fades to white, another swf file opens in a table cell in the lower right OF THE SAME WEB PAGE. This second talking head shot is set up in video editing to start as all white and then fades into the visible swf file. It runs a minute and then fades to white too.

When the second talking head ends, there's no loop, it just ends. The web visitor is then left to decide where to go next. Other navigation options are optional on the page to help the web visitor.

I looked under "actionscripting" and found "Load a movie to replace a movie already loaded", but that doesn't help since it's loading the movie in the same HTML table cell. I want swf movie #1 to load swf movie #2 but in a different cell location on the same web page.

The tip I found results in loading a movie into a target already containing a loaded movie. That's not the effect I want. I want to load a movie into a target that doesn't already contain a loaded movie - a separate location on the same web page.

All in all, all I want is for the first swf file to cause the launch of the second swf file without any prompts... and within the same web page. It's a simple "file launch another file" I'm seeking to achieve. I've looked this up as "file sequencing", "file-load-file" and a variety of other search phrases but I'm getting no where.

Hopefully, I've articulated this clearly. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I'm a newbie, so please have mercy by not assuming I'm any more than that. Thanks.

Pass Variable With String From One Flash File To Another Flash File
There are two flash files which are developed in Flash MX 2004 Professional and its names are Main.fla&Child.fla.
I have created a Input text box in Main.fla and enter text during runtime. When I click a button in the same Main.fla file, the text entered should display in the dynamic text box which is created in Child.fla. But, I am not getting appropriate logic to achieve this task.
Request you to kindly send appropriate logic. It is urgent.

Flash File Inside A Scrooling Area In A Flash File
Is it possible to have a flash/swf file in a movieclip (similar to loading a swf in another swf) however, if the loaded swf is lerger (vertically) it can be scrolled up/down in the parnt/original swf -- do you use the same kind of proceedure as with loading movieclips in a swf? or is there some special way to do it - or can it be done at all?

Launch Windows File Browser For Jpeg File Import To Flash?
I would like for the users of my interactive piece to be able to click on a button which says, 'import file'. This would launch the usual windows open file browser window to appear. Then the user could import an image file. This file would load into a holder movie clip and then would stretch or shrink to fit into a size of my choosing, i.e. 400 x 300. Is this possible? I imagine it might be using flash to call some javascript but I could use some advice.

How To Reveal A .swf Server Directory Behind A Host Html Index File To Save A Flash File To HD?
I FIND YOUR FLASH FORMAT EXTREMELY USER-UNFRIENDLY.
I spent two weeks to figure out how to save a complete .swf file to my local drive.
Finding 48 files behind a main html doc hosting those .swf's took 48 hours.
(Now I can't move my arm anymore due to RSI!)

No application to save a Flash file, seems to be able to do that in 1,2,3 convenient steps.
I always get bits and pieces or individual graphics.

I NEVER GET THE ENTIRE MANUAL the way I can browse the Flash file in my browser.
I am seriously thinking of never browsing a Flash file again if there is no solution to download e.g. a manual of my digital camera. I have the right to browse such a file at my convenience either on or offline! Online it's just impossible due to server overload.

Now I only get the desadvantages of the format to deal with (e.g. tons of spamming advertising) whereas I should be able to enjoy the benefits. Eventhough I gave the manufacturer the right to fill up 10 MB on my drive, I never got a file on my PC. And even when I did, I wouldnt know where to find it...
I hope Adobe would listen to the user more often...

Does A Flash File Allow For Manual And Autoplay Control In A Single File?

I am trying to use flash remoting and Flash 8 cannot locate my NetServices.as file or NetDebug file when I test my movie.

The error message I get is as follows:

i do not want to use any server side uploading or downloading....i just want to view the image in loader component when we select image from any location in the hard disk using browse dialog box.

Hey, I just cant seem to work it out.

If I use:
loadVariables("config.txt", "_root");
trace(content);

with in the text file:
content = 12345

the Tracer just returns "undefined"

while if I use it in a Dynamic Text field, using the var field set to content, it works just fine.

So I tested with:

loadVariables("config.txt", "_root");
test1=content;
test2=54321
test3=test1+test2;
trace(test1);
trace(test2);
trace(test3);

and the trace returns:
undefined
54321
54321

Im getting the idea trace can only handle variables, and not strings, and the text file is read a string, thus I cant calculate with it. Am I right? What can I do about this?

i am doing web designing usingflash and no have to embed audio file into it. both mp3 and avi are too large for a flash file to upload.I have sound forge and have even reduced the size of the mp3 or avi to the correct frame rate.
is there any other audio fomat suitable for flashmx2004 with lesser bytes.

Export Text From A Flash File Into A Separate File?
Is it possible to export text from a text field, which has been created in Flash and export it into an external file such as a text file or Word document?

The idea is that information will be collected by the user into a text field within the swf. Hopefully, this information can then be exported into an external file which will allow the user to work on and edit at a later stage. It needs to be a separate editable document. Is this possible? I'm using Flash 8.

Local Flash File And File Installations From A Server
Hello all, just a query that I have.

Is there any way for a local Flash file to communicate with a server and download a file, and then install it in a predetermined directory?

For example, if a file package BOOK1 is available on a server, can I get Flash to download it and place it in the current directory that it is in? Will this require network sockets or passing of variables between javascript or the like?

Organizing Flash: 1 File Or 1 File & Multiple Swf Loaded Within?
I am starting to work on a large project using Flash ... and I haven't used Flash since version 4 (so I'm sure this is just the first question of many). These may be "newbie" questions ...

To give you a background, the Flash will be a "build a bracelet" module. A bracelet chain will be selectable and then the user can choose from a variety of beads to drag and drop onto it to see what it looks like together before buying.

The user will choose a bracelet (thus loading a particular image for it) and then have options to select differnt types of beads to view (silver beads, gold beads, alphabet beads, etc). Since only so many can fit on a page (without scrolling too much) I am wondering what the best method of handling them would be (FYI, I am hoping to also learn XML and load these items dynamicall ... but one step at a time).

Option 1: Include all beads in the main SWF file and show/hide the list of beads as the user chooses (click on Silver and the images for Silver appear). I'm not sure if this will make for a huge SWF file to load as each image is a JPG.

Option 2: Have a main SWF file that has the beginning part where they choose one of the types of beads to view (a button to load Silver) which would then trigger a different SWF to load up inside the main one. This would eliminate the need to load them all at once, only the parts that are being used at the time ... however, I'm not sure how an SWF loaded in another will work (ie. can you drag items from the embedded SWF over the main file?).

Option 3: Something better that I don't know about?

Like I said, this is probably a very basic question but I have to start somewhere. If you need any more info to better understand I can try to explain better too. Thanks.

Loading A Flash File After A Flash File Plays?
I can't figure out how to have a specific splash file play, and then directly after that flash file is done playing, another flash file is played. Bluemoutain seems to beable to do it...

As you can notice, they have their shell file play, followed by the actual file. How is this done? They seem to have declared the file they want to play after the shell with animPath= How is this done???

Adjust Flash 6 File To Work As Flash 8 File
Hello people, I just found one Flash file where you can zoom-in/out some object on the screen (vector, bitmap, anything)...

The problem is, it has to be exported as Flash 6, and I need it to work as Flash 8... because I'm loading it into another SWF that needs to be Flash 8 (because of better video compression and new codec etc.)

I am not that good with AS, so any help would be greatly appreciated. There is just few AS lines assigned to the Magnifying glass object, but I can not figure it out no matter what I tried...

Is there a way you can link a GOTOANDPLAY or GETURL to go from one flash .swf to another without loading it into the same flash file?

The flash files are in seperate html files... so if you can read how my mind would work on this...

see I have about 9 of theses .swf files, and I have made chapters but my probem is that I need to be able to have a back button between chapters, but each chapter has its own .swf file, and the only way I know to link is just to link back to the .html page and that will load the swf from the beging instead of the label...

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone knows how to link buttons in one flash file to open a specific scene of an entirely different flash file? If it isn't possible to choose a specific scene, is there a way to just open a flash file...in the same browser window, but not within the flash file...if that makes sense?

I'm putting this on a website, so additionally, I will need to know which file to link it to, the swf, html, or fla.
