Flash Index Page Randomly Opening Numerous Pages In Browser
I have created an index page in flash and the rest of the website in Dreamweaver. The index page contains 4 buttons linking to specified sections of my site.
when i open the index page in the browser, it proceeds to open hundreds more of these pages. I am guessing i have created a loop somewhere without realising it.
I have used a simple code in action script for each of these buttons. I have tried the following:
on (press) {
getURL("about_us.html", "_self");
}
on (release) {
getURL("about_us.html", "_blank", "GET");
}
and variations of these but cant seem to get it to work the way it should.
Can you help?

Flash Pages Instead Opening In The Browser Are Downloading.
Hi, I am having problems with diferent browsers and settings in diferent computers:
Sometimes the site opens ok, in Safari for example (I have a Mac ox 10.3.9) .
In explorer just the homepage, and when I try to open a link for another swf nothing happen.
Then in my friends computer even the second page is being downloaded, and dont work aswell.
I have just the initial page in html. the index that calls the SWF home, and then by the actions I set the buttons to open other SWF.
Why this diference in other browser and computers?

Index.htm Page Opening Fullscreen?
I need to open my index.htm page fullscreen when they first enter the site for optimum effect.... how is this accomplished ?? is it a javascript or can HTML process this basic function ???

Well, can you please explain how to pass a variable named "email" to a PHP page on the server (named: register.php) without the need to open a new Internet Explorer (or any other browser) window?
I think it is the "loadMovieNum".. but can you please explain how to use it for that?
I have a text box named "email" in the flash movie that will ask the user to enter his email there, to register in the newsletter..

Opening Html Pages With Flash...
i'm designing a site that has flash pages and html pages... all of the pages (even the flash pages) have a html sub nav below the flash content... i was wondering if there is any way to have a link inside a flash movie load an html page into the current browser window (not into the area of the swf)...
so that the links on the flash pages don't have to open a separate browser window...
like loading into _self (if _self meant the actual html page not the swf area)...
does that make sense? and if it does... can it be done?

Flash Index Page Help...
- Is there some code (whether javascript or whatever) to determine if a person is using flash or not? What is that code?
- How can I determine the size of the of the browser (800 x 600 or 640 x 480,etc) and how do I adjust the flash movie accordingly?
Is there some sort of common practice when using html files with flash embeded in it?
To this point I have only used html file in the "publish" process and all of the information (classid, object, embed) is greek. Is it common to use the published html file or do others create their own html?

HELP: VH1 Index Page Flash
Hi Guys,
I have a new project where the client is requesting the following
1. The flash animation that (flips) introduces the main stories on the "VH1.com" site (don't know the name of this kind of animation). I am thinking this is a DB driven dynamic load/unload animation movie.
2. The kind of flash animation used on the menu.

FLash Detection On Index Page
There is probably a very simple explanation, but why is it convention to inform browsers that a site contains Flash content, and therefore requires the relevant player. Why not just test the browser for the relevant software on index.htm and then launch either static content, or flash content immediately??

[F8] Flash Page Index Issue - Im Stuck
Im making a flash website, the site is a gaming clan for a james bond theme.

heads = are links to member page
content (to be added) = inside the golden border on the dossier material
right side (to be added) = other links to be placed there.
as you see its got animation to it, the title brightens and stuff, on a loop in main scene, and so far the gun keeps firing every double loop of the scene. (its imbedded movie is double the frames of the main scene 1)
The issue is, i want the gun to only animate once every time a person enters the site (and on refreshes), but i dont want to stop the main scene, coz then it would stop the title effect. - note every time the movie plays through it has 2 text effect and 1 gun animation.
so once again
I want to be able to stop the gun animation from appearing on the second and consequent scene loops til a refresh or they re-enter the index. ... how do i go about this?

other issue :
I want a music file to then play the second the glass shatters in the first and only planned gun animation, and then that file of music would continue to loop.

Adding Pages & Index Links To This .fla
My Flash skills are pretty good. But unfortunately im my own expert.
I emailed the author of this .fla but he wants to charge me for something that I could THEORETICALLY (with alot of headaches) figure out on my own.

Making A Button That Allows Your Flash Page To Be The Browser Default Home Page.
Mmn, seems the original post dissapeared while i was typing , no prob, here is the code in anycase!
Ok a simple trick in IE but not in Netscape, as far as i know, its not possible to do this in Netscape. Also you shouldnt make the home page your swf file, but rather the html file with the swf in it.
First this requires an xml namespace to function, so change your top <html> tag to look like
<html XMLNS:IE>
Then create the IE:Homepage object using this, it can be placed anywhere on your page as long as it happens before the javascript.
<IE:HOMEPAGE ID="oHomePage" />
And finaly the javascript function that you will call from your flash file (using getULR('changeMyHomePage()') in flash) or from a normal link.

}

Opening New Browser Windows In Flash 5
Hello. I know there are some tutorials here that explain how to open new browser windows within a Flash swf. Unfortunately I tried them and got confused. I don't know that much about JavaScript, but I'm comfortable with ActionScript in Flash 5. Here's what I'd like to do:
I have a swf file (main.swf) residing on a web page (main.html).
There are 4 buttons in main.swf. I'd like each button to open a new browser window(page1.html, page2.html, etc.). That's the easy part. I know how to do that!
However, I'd like each browser window to be a specific size. And, if it's possible, I'd like each window to be plain (no scroll bars, not resizeable, etc.). It would also be wonderful if I could control the placement of the new browser windows in relation to the main window, but this isn't necessary.
Thanks for any help. This is an effect that I would use a lot!

Hope someone can help?! I have a html page - front page to a website. The page has a flash movie embedded in it which i want to lauch a new browser window with the full website.
I have included the following code in the flash movie on the button to enter the main website:

Opening A New Browser Window From Flash
Does anyone know of a method fo opening a link in a new window in firefox from within flash that isn't blocked by the popup blocker. It seems like the security in FF 2.0.0.6 (I'm on 2.0.0.11) has been tightened to prevent any _blank or window.open calls from flash getting through. I've tried the standard getURL, fscommand and ExternalInterface call to a javascript window.open method. Nothing now works.
I understand the need for the popup blockers, but this is a legitimate popup only invoked on user interaction (click) - the same window.open call in an onClick event outside of flash works fine and I guess it is blocked from within flash because there is no way of knowing if the call is invoked from user interaction or automatically - but seems a shame.
So any other way of getting a new browser window to open from within flash in firefox?

Opening Up Another Browser Window From Flash
Hi,
I am using the following command to call up a html page. Rather than clearing my flash site on screen , and being taking to the new link - can anyone tell me please how i open up the loaded page in another browser window, so my main site can still be seen.
The reason for this, is that i am linking to my online store, but wish for people to play the audio files on the my site on its media player rather than trying to get the store to do it, so i still need the main flash site to be visible with this other loaded page in another window.
The line i am using, which loads the page in the same window as the flash site is:
getURL("http://www.jsten.co.uk/ecomcart","_self");
i think, it will be an alteration to the _self command, but i dont know what

Opening Browser Window On Top Of Flash Piece
Hello,
I've got a Flash projector that fills the entire screen and has a button that, when clicked, opens a URL in a browser window. The problem is if the user already has their browser open, the URL loads into the browser window behind the Flash piece. Is there any way to bring the existing browser window to the top from Flash?
Alternatively, is there a way to display a web page inside the Flash piece? I know this can be done in Authorware, but I don't know about Flash.

i made a cdrom that contains links to different pages on the web.
i want it so that when you click on a link the browser window opens on top of the cdrom interface. right now it works on some computers and not on others.

i am new to flash and have designed a site that is 700x350 and when viewer comes to my site it will be an html page that ask viewer if they want html site or flash site....what i want to do is if a viewer selects flashsite i want it to open in a widow that has nothing but a frame around it and is in center of window......how would i accomplish this? very anxious to get this finished so any help would be greatly appreciated.

[CS3] Having Trouble Opening Flash Web Page
Hello, I currently have my homepage up and running(it is done completely in flash) I also have a couple of links on my web site that go to other .sfw web sites I have created. However when I click on the links it brings up my files but they are smaller. The text is smaller, the pictures are smaller and the site itself does not even take up my entire screen. When I upload the sites individually the look fine it is only when I have them all up at once and use the links to navigate. if someone could help that would be great.

Help With Flash Banner Opening On Every Page
Hey guys I been trying to optimize my site abit. I seen on some new flash templates that when the flash banner opens the first time the browser will not call it again when clicking on new page links. I also seen the banner incorperated with an iframe so it only calls it once.
Currently I have 6 .html pages each calling the flash banner every time their clicked. This is taking loading time whenever a user browses to a different page.

Opening Flash Movie In Browser Window Fundamentals
Hi there
OK - This is probably very basic but I cant seem to work it out.
I have created a flash movie (800 by 600) and I want to offer the user 2 options.
1. Launch Maximised (With Only the browser bar with exit, maximise and minimise buttons)
2. Launch at 800 by 600 (With Only the browser bar with exit, maximise and minimise buttons)
For both I want the flash movie to fit snug against browser window edges i.e no white gaps
Can anyone suggest how to accomplish this - I am getting very close but keep getting gaps or the aspect ratio messsing up.

In Dreamweaver, I've previously used the 'open new browser window' behaviour from a link to display my Flash movies, and entered the .SWF filename as the URL to launch (this launches a browser window thatls exactly the size of the movie, no scrollbars, buttons etc). Can I do a similar thing with Flash's 'get URL' command, or does that only go to HTML/HTM files?

Hello,
I'm once again stumped on a very simple, but now complicated code for javascript:window.open. I'm trying to launch the browser with the flash object embedded, but without that annoying space between the flash movie and the browser. To make a more clearer picture, let's say the movie is in a window size of 650x550. The movie is published at this size, but when I call for java to open it at this size it either doesn't fix correctly or I have this little gap in the window. I've tried everything to solve this,but I can't seem to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatful.

Local Issue With Opening Browser Window From Flash
I setup an annual report to be put onto cd in flash mx 2004 professional with a ton of components that call (when thumbnails are clicked) new browser windows of images on the cd. now that i have flash 8 installed, it says that the program is calling a potential unsafe internet address, which its not but i think the getURL function is fooling it into thinking that. now, this is made for work and our work has disabled us from changing our internet settings. is there a way to get around this?

Flash Video Opening In Full Browser, Need It Like A Popup
Hello to you all, this is my first post and I'm trying to get my learning head on.
I have imported a video in to Flash Pro 8 encoded it to 300x240 pixels and gone through the process to make a flash video including the published html file. Now when I click on the swf. file directly the movie opens up on my desk-top like a pop-up which I want and plays just perfectly at the size I set it at and complete with the controls I chose.
My problem is that when I click on a text link on my website to open the flash produced html file which in turn opens the swf file, the flash video opens up at the right size but on the left and I have a full browser screen, not the size I want it to as when I tested it from clicking on the swf. file on my desk-top.
Please can you explain how to get the video to open up in another window from the link on my website at the smaller size that I wanted? I presume it is some kind of JavaScript code that needs inserting in flash html page?!?! (probably more complicated than that)?
Can you help please as I want to do this with a number of individual videos with separate links?

Opening Pages In Same Window
hey,
i have a movie clip, that has an action to take your browser to a different site on each frame. they are time delayed, and i want them to open the sites in the same window. the action i have is this.
Code:
getURL ("http://www.aol.com", "_anon");
where "_anon" is the name of the new window. when the time delay tells the MC to go to the next frame, it opens the next page in a new window, but in the AS i have the same target window. any ideas or help???

Flash Menu 4 HTML Pages - Pass Variables On Page Refresh
So the subject is a hint as to how hard it is to search on this simple idea.

PROBLEM DETAILS:
I am building a swf menu for an HTML site. It has the following buttons:
SectionA
SectionB
SectionC
What I want to do is modify the text when the HTML page for the correspoding section is loaded. So, if I click on "SectionB", SectionB.html loads. Now I want that button "SectionB" in the swf to have a background glow.
Of course the catch is, that each time a new HTML page loads, it reloads the swf menu (No Frames please!). So, naturally I know I can just tell the swf menu to go to a certain place in the timeline where there is the glow graphic behind "SectionB". But the swf needs a variable saying it is on a Section B HTML page. (of course I could build a seperate swf for each section - but that seems stupid.)
THUS....
MY QUESTION:
How do I pass a variable from a swf on one HTML page (that is being replaced by a new HTML page!), to a swf on a new HTML page.
Can I do this with a GET/POST or something?
