I am doing my first flash opening page. What happens if the viewer Does not have the flash plug in??

I understand there is a detector code that does this.
What actually happens ?

Does the plug in automatically download ?

Is the viewer given an option to download?

Where is the path to the flash5 plug in?

How is a second page set up to replace the flash home page
If no plug in is available?

Can anyone help

Check For Flash Plug-in
How can you check for the Flash player version from within the .swf itself? I've read that using getVersion will generate a string, but how can you use that information to send the user to a different keyframe if the version is less than 5.0? The goal here is to build a "get the Flash 5.0 prompt" within the .swf itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Latest Flash Plug-in
Ever since I installed the trial version of Flash MX and the plug-ins that came with it, I came across many websites that refuse access because they say I don't have the Flash plug-in. All the browsers on my main computer are refused access but if I try it with another computer and with a browser which has an older plug-in version, I have access. Why do these websites don't recognize the newest Flash plug-ins? And how can one go about this and enter the sites without going back and reinstalling the older plug-in versions?

I'd like to add some Actionscript commands in a projector file so that it detects if the latest FLASH plug-in is installed (Flash player 6, that is). If it isn't, I'd like it to install the plug-in automatically.

Flash Browser Plug In
I have developed a site in Flash MX.

Lets assume that the client who wants to view
the site does not have Flash Browser
Plug In, installed on his machine.

For such scenarios we can provide a
link to Macromedia and visiting that link
would allow downloading the Flash Browser
Plug In manually.

I was also thinking about another option
where before the site loads it would check
whether the client's PC has Flash Browser
Plug In and if it does not then it would automatically
download the Flash Browser Plug In on the
client's PC from my server or from Macromedia's
server.

Is it possible to achieve this?

Flash Plug-in Issues
Hi everyone, i was wondering is someone can help me with a problem, for some reason if i go to a Flash site IE isnt able to open any flash content, just a red x, i have the latest pluging installed. When i uninstall and reinstall the plug-in it works fine for a while but after a bit if i got back to my comp. and try i get the same problem. Im going nuts trying to figure it out, anybody think they can help, I'm using IE6 on Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

Is there still an archive somewhere for the Flash 6 plug-in installer for IE, Windows XP? My copy of IE 6 seems to have suddenly lost its Flash plug-in (I don't know how). I want to publish and test my movies for the Flash 6 plug-in. I can't find anything on the Macromedia player download page for IE except Player 7.

I'm just about to enter my final year of my degree. I want to create a flash plug-in for my project idea, so that it is a practical tool that you can use. But i've never looked into the creation of plug-ins. Can anyone give me any pointers??

Its just i've noticed that the mx2004 timeline effects are flash movies within flash that create graphics. I'd love to do something similar to this.

Flash 5 Plug-in For IE And Netscape
Is there anywhere online I can still get the Flash 5 Plug-in for IE and Netscape. I'm having to test some courseware, and the minimum requirements are the Flash 5 player, so I need to test in that environment. I can't find it on Macromedia's site, and google isn't helping much either.

Anyone know where it can still be downloaded?

[F8] Please Help: Self-loading Flash Plug-in
Hi everybody.

I've just made a Flash website using Flash 8 Pro.
Now, my customer keeps on telling me that many people tells them that they can't see the Website on their browser, all they get is a blank screen.
I guess the problem is that those computers have not the Flash Player 8 plug-in.

Then 2 questions to this forum:
1- Is there a way that a piece of AS or an html script detects if a computer has the Flash8 Player and prompts the user to install it? (or if upon detection it gets directly installed without prompting).

2- I would like to see exactly what those customers have on screen, then I'd like to uninstall the Flash Player plug-in from my computer, in order to see it myself, because as far as I'm concerned, in the "blank screen" there should be a message that warns the visitors that if the content can't be seen, they must click on a link in order to get the Player.

IE Not Detecting Flash Plug-in

I need to install an older version of the Flash player on a test rig. When I went to copy accross the ocx file (Adobe doesn't provide an installer for older versions of the flash player) there was already a different version of the ocx in place (C:/Windows/System32/Marcromed/Flash/) but internet explorer for some reason isn't picking this up and is refusing to display any flash

Any suggestions why this may be?

Ok, that's it... I've been searching and searching... I just cant find that damn Plu-In.
My problem is that I have the Flash 5 plug in installed on my Internet Explorer Browser, but, I would like to test the reaction to certain script with the Flash 4 plug-In...
I have been on the Macromedia web site.. yes there is a link to where we can download older versions. I did download the Shockwave 7.something wich said it included the Flash 4 plug in.
But still...
When I have the F5 plug-in, in the "Downloaded Program Files" folder, there is the "Shockwave Flash Object". I did remove that little dude, but when I start my page again, it manages to go get the plug-in and install it again and the Flash proceeds to play.
I did go in my HTML source code. I erased the
codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0"

parameter... and also the

PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"

parameter.. but still no works... manages to get the damn plug-in without me knowing how...

(don't get me wrong here, I love having the latest up to date stuff, it's just that for my need right now..)

If I install the Shockwave package downloaded earlier on the Macromedia web site, and start my page again.. oh Boy, now I'm really lost!
First, the flash takes a second to appear.. it starts but still works ok, and further more questions arise in my head now turning into a reddish angry and impatient annoyed little color might my co-workers say...

Howcome the Flash plays, howcome it is still a Flash 5 player and howcome there is no Shockwave Flash Object thing in the Downloaded Program Files???

How can I get out of this? All I want to do is to see if the movie I made reacts the way I want it to react on a Flash 4 plug-in equipped browser...

Downloading Flash Plug-in

How this could be done? When a flash site opens, it detects the latest plugin (i.e flash 8) in the computer and if don't found it, it automatically download it on the user's computer or pop-up a message to download the latest plug-in while remaining on the same page (the user don't have to redirect on Adobe's page, this might create some confusion for new user to go back). Please help me in this.

I have been using Red Giant's Text FX plug-in for Flash to easily create text FX for a while now. It's a discontinued product, however, and it won't work in Flash CS3.

What plug-ins do you recommend for Flash?

I've downloaded an app called Text-Osterone. It's not a plug-in, but is a standalone product that outputs Flash.

I've also found PJ Components, but I haven't checked it out yet. It doesn't seem like they offer a demonstration version and I don't know if I want to pay money before trying it.

Problem With Flash 10 Plug-in
I just downloaded and installed the Flash 10 plugin for my Mac G5 iMac, and Flash videos in Safari will no longer play. All I get is a blank screen box where the video should be, or a message that I need at least version 8 to view the video. I've re-installed the plug-in a couple of times, reset my P-PRAM, restarted, etc. but nothing works. What am I overlooking? Thanks, Reid McCallister

I've noticed there might be a bug in flash plug-in for firefox. I'm using IE for debugging, since my FF is always open for browsing, but when I tested something I've noticed some strange effects.

Flash Plug-in Won't Install
OK I am logging on as an adminstrator I have full access to all files and folders, I am using IE6, 6.0.2800.1106 to be exact, I have set the security level to low. The plugin will not install, when the security was set higher I clicked yes to the security pages. I also downloaded the installer file and I get an error: INF:Install failure Reason:Unknown. I have also given full rights to the registry, still doesn't work and its driving me mad. Its windows 2000 OS and I have about 80 identical pc's and none of them will install it. I tried on an older win98 machine and it works fine. Am I missing a setting somewhere???? Please help!!!

Users Without The Flash Plug In
Two queries here really.
Firstly, does anyone know the statistics of how many web users have the Flash plug-in installed?
I am tempted to create Flash buttons in my new website, but don't want to make it inaccessible to those without the plug-in.
Which leads me onto my second question, is there any JavaScript that detects whether the user has the required plug in? Therefore directing them to a HTML only page if they do not.
Sorry if this question has been answered many times before, I am restricted from looking at this site on a regular basis.

Plug & Play CD-Rom On Mac + PC With Flash MX

How does one create a Flash MX movie that plays on both mac + pc with plug and play cd-rom?
Is it even possible on both platforms?
I'm on a Mac OS 9.2.

1. I published a FMX movie, which generated a 2 projectors -- one mac (projector) and other pc (exe)

2. next I tried creating Autorun.inf (using note pad) with the text ...
[Autorun]
OPEN=nf_cat.exe

3. I burned both projectors + Autorun.inf using Toast 5 Titanium.

4. does not auton on PC and MAC.

I know from past experience that in using only a pc platform, that this will be a no brainer + one can also include ICON=logo.ico.

But this 2 platform concept is a problem.

Any suggestions.

I know how to use dreamweaver to detect if a user has the flash plug-in. But, what if I specifically need them to have the latest version of the plug-in ( Flash 7/2004 MX Pro) and not just flash 5 or 6 plug-in? Can it detect a specific version?

Why Doesn't The Flash Plug-in Pop Up In Netscape?
My SWISH movie previews wonderfully in Internet Explorer, but when you try to view it in Netscape, nothing comes up. I am told from the SWISH help forum that the Flash forum might be able to help me out better. SWISH generates the HTML necessary for this, however, it's not happening. Who can help me?

I have a client who wants the following done (sic):

I need Action Scripts to be added to 2 buttons in a Flash file that,
when clicked, will install a piece of supplied software (Note: this is a Freeware Plug-in, (one button is for PC, one is for Mac). Ideally I'd prefer it if the frame script could check to see whether the
plug-in is already loaded and a) install it if necessary or b) skip to the next frame if s/w is present.

I've no idea how to go about this to be honest, or even if its possible at all. Any help very gratefully received.

the site uses 3 html files

index.html
[simple html page without any scripts,
one link to the MAIN.html page that holds the site
another link to macromedia to download the flash mx plugin]

index_noflash.html
[this page has a link to macromedia with an explaination about the flash player. you would only see this page if you have flash but not the right plugin.]

MAIN.html
[this page uses a flash 6 command inside an if action that will load the main flash movie inside a movie clip
now if the user plugin doesn't execute this command then the page gets redirected to index_noflash.html.

HERE IS THE SCRIPT I AM USING IN THE MAIN.HTML

Tailored Flash Plug-in Download
How is it that Flash sites are able to send you to specific download links in Macromedia's website to determine your CPU, OS and Browser capabilities???
For example, I came across this Flash site and it knew that I needed a plug-in for Win'95 for a Netscape browser??? How do I target a surfer like that to send 'em to the corresponding plug-in link?

Flash MX Publishing ?/Active X - Plug-In ?. Please Help
For those that have used Flash back as far as the days of Flash 3 and 4 - you know that it used to be that if you were building a movie in Flash 4 then you could Publish it down to Flash 3 and then when a user got to your .swf in the web and they only had the Flash 3 Plug-In in their browser that it would just play the movie with no problem and not tell them that they didn't have the latest plug-in.

Well starting I think in Flash 5 and MX - when you publish down then when a user comes and doesn't have the latest version of your plug-in that an Active X(in IE) box pops up and asks them to upgrade - if you say yes then it upgrades it to 6 and then plays the movie - if you say no then it still plays it with whatever older Flash version that they have.

SO here is my ? - is there anyway in Flash MX to Publish it down to Flash 3 or 4 and NOT have the Active X box pop-up and instead it just plays it in version 3 or 4 or whatever version the user has? The reason I want this is because I want to put Flash on my front page and I don't want newbies to be flustered with the plug-in issue. My movie is very simple and does not need the functions of Flash MX.

Or if there is not a way to deactivate the Active X - then is there a way to substitute a still jpeg in place of the flash movie - IF they don't have the MX plug-in - instead of getting the Active X box. Thanks in advance for this lengthy email.
