Streaming Audio Speed No Good - Depends On Processor Or Internet Connection Speed?
we are launching a narrated, streaming flash 6.0 presentation for a client. frame rate is 20fps. here is the link:

they sent us this email:

"I do not know who else this may be happening with, but when Marjorie Sanders (OC) opened to take the tour, it loaded the software (not sure why her machine didn't have it), and the video was the size of a postcard, Kathleen sounded like a little child (almost munchkin like) and was going 100 mph (so very, very fast - almost unintelligible). Can we experiment with it. Could it be because of the download - I would hope that people don't receive it that way or they will end up laughing at it (it is almost silly)."

does the streaming sync depend on the internet connection or the processor speed? i am assuming processor, and that on a kick-butt new machine it will stream faster then on a slower one.

i think the only way to counter for this is to go in and add some more frames in the narration between phrases. we don't want to lower the framerate because it will affect the flow of the tweens.

any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Im loading an animating logo dynamically into a site. The animation works in normal speed if i access it directly:

[MX04] MC Speed Vs. Document Speed
I'm an intermediate to flash, and know limited coding.
But,
I have created a flash slideshow with a preloader. However, the preloader needs to be at 12fps in order to look good, but the slideshow is at 0.4fps to look good. (It basically just flips to each image.) The controller is a sample controller in flash, and I wasn't sure how to activate the delay switch in it, so I just set the fps of the whole scene at 0.4fps.

Anyways, is there a way to have the whole slide show at 0.4fps but the preloader MC at 12fps, or sped up or something. Thanks!

question:: does anybody know how to make flash play different MC,s at different frame rate i mean i have a main MC that i have set to run at for example 20 FPS and i have created another MC that runs at lets say 40 FPS and i have export it as an individual SWF so when i test the individual SWF it plays according to the frame rate i have set it which is 40 FPS so no problem so far

however when i do import the individual SWF back to the main MC that runs at 20 FPS it too seems to run at 20 FPS instead of 40 FPS that i have set, it is meant to be an individual MC that runs at its own pace but no no once imported back into flash

flash plays everything at the pace of the main MC which let me clerify is meant to run at 20 FPS.

director MX 2004 can play imported individual SWF files that runs at different FPS without problem why cant flash MX 2004 do that too

or maybe i just dono how its done

just wondering what the best way to control the speed of a movie is. I have a movie clip that is text scrolling from right to left and it needs to go slower so that it’s readable. So I know I can just change the fps and/or make the motion tween a lot longer, but there must be a better way to do this with ac....?

Best Way To Speed A Flash Movie ?
Hi all,

I have a movie clip that does a lot of math calculations as well as alpha changing in
and out which consumes a bit of time.

only one instance of this movie clip can run pretty smooth inside my flash movie.

problem is I would like to duplicate about 30 or more instances of this movie clip in
my flash movie which of course slows down the movie speed.

I was thinking I would just create one instance clip.swf and use
loadmovienum(clip.swf, i) upto 30 times and then the multiple loaded swf clips will
play independently of each other creating a smoother animation, I don't know if that is
the case?

or use the .attachmovie action as an alternative ?, I don't know if this will make any
difference?

I am not really sure I understand the difference between loadmovienum and
attachmovie.

Please Help With Flash Game Speed
I made a litlle shooting game.
I have one "mc" object which is duplicated, and each
duplicated movie randomly moves in window.
first level have 3 "mc" objects (targets to shot),
and each new level +3 more targets.

Thats was working well until I was made crosshair.

I was hide mouse, made "mc" whose follows mouse
and use swapDepth to move croshair to highest level.

In that point my game speed was crushed and all
is working so slowly.

Please, have anyone some tips???

Quick Question here:

I made this flash website that plays very quick and smoothly when running directly from the .swf file.

When I export into an index.html page and run the site, then the flash plays extremely slow! And this only happens when I play it through an .html page, but plays normal speed as an .swf file ...

This has confused me and was wondering if there was a way to fix this, or work around it. Thanks for any help!

As 3.0 And Flash Player's Speed
in flash player 9, do I need to write in AS 3.0 in order to get the benifits of the new speed? Or do I only need to use flash 9 (with AS 2.0) and export the movie as flash player 9?

Hi I've created a rather large presentation in flash, the only problem is that towards the end of the presentation animations seem to stutter and slow down.. Is there anyway round this?

This occurs for both the swf and projector exe files

I was thinking maybe there's someway to unload a slide after it's been presented and then reload it if the user needs to go back to it?

First of all, I’m not a Microsoft fan and I also don’t hate them

O.K. here is my problem:
I’m making a new flash site (in 70fps). When I’m testing it in IE6, it looks the same as in Flash’s “test movie”. But, when I test it in Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox, Flash performance (fps) drops by 20-30%. With Opera browser it’s even worse (50-70% dropdown!?!).

Do you have the same experience and is there any special code to put in HTML to speed the movie in other browsers. I would like to keep <param name="quality" value="high">

Btw. What is your opinion, what is the optimal fps in Flash? I have seen some movies running at 90fps and higher, and it seams to me that sometimes preloaders run smother on 30fps than on 70fps.

Please all of you with a lot of experience give some comments!!!

Xml & Flash /speed Issue/

is there any cure for the fact that xml is loaded awfully slow into flash...so if you run a cursor faster over the menu for example, it dazzles it and doesn't run the comands as it should!!

if I run over it slow it works fine.

Speed Issues In Flash
Hey Guys

I'm just starting to notice something about speed decreasing with the usage of the sendAndLoad() or XML() in flash.

I'm using a Flash CMS to save data to a database and it first retrieves a dynamic XML file from the database with about 200 items. I notice that when I'm updating some of the items, it starts slowing down. It reads everything at once by retrieving as XML but I'm updating each item manually and it uses the sendAndLoad() to save. The problem is when I click on the next item to save and it takes progressively longer to load the dynamic XML data for that item.

At first, I thought it was IE or FF slowing down but I notice that when I refreshed the page, everything loaded really fast again. I'm suspecting this has something to do with the POST data that is being sent to the PHP pages which saves the data all building up and slowing down but I'm not quite sure why it would affect the XML being loaded.

Short question is: is there any way to clear whatever "cache" there is for flash by actionscript so it runs fast constantly?

Flash Speed In IE Vs Firefox
I've noticed a difference in rendering speed of IE7 vs Firefox2 for complex flash animations. It is evident that certain animations especially with filters are rendered noticeably faster in firefox while it seems to lag a lot more in IE. Is there an explanation for this?

Processing Speed, Flash, And Being The Sole Flash Guru
Hi All,

I have been working at my company for about a year now as the resident Flash Specialist/Web Designer. We have a large Development Team but they only work on database functionality and HTML/JAVA/Javascript for the huge user-generated old database driven site. I have done a bunch of work but every time I do something I try to push the envelope and they give me push back. I started off knowing a bit of basic AS 2.0 and now am responsibility for some pretty heavy functionality using AS 3.0 and testing/QA of my own work. The Dev Team hates Flash and wants nothing to do with my process not even testing.

My last project was very cool and hip and tested on my end but when I turned over to the Dev team to push live to the site they tested it in their QA dept with laptops and PC/Mac everything and found that the processor speed for slower machines can't handle the animation I did. The animation is 6MB but I thought if I had a preloader it'd be okay. Now the project only 2 day delayed but an extra $3,500 to be fixed by an outside firm.

I know that it's a process and will take time and mistakes to iron out the process but I really want the Dev Team to offer more than just after the fact - no that's won't work advice. I am very eager to learn more and am enrolled in a Certificate at the local University to learn Flash Application Development.

Does anyone else have advise, tips, or feedback in this for me a designer turned developer working with a Dev Team that hates flash and somewhat low level users, aka low processor speeds and such.

Should Flash Download Speed Be Same As Any Other File?
This is probably a dumb question, so sorry in advance.

My first novel is being published next year and I'm building a website for it. I've used Flash (Swish actually)

The file size is 13K, but when I first went to download it online my browser took ages to display the item and downloaded over 400K of stuff ending in a pop up from macromedia asking if I wanted to install an update. (I already have flash player 6)I was wondering what was happening.

Subsequently the file downloads quickly but I was wondering if this is just because it is cached. Can I assume that a flash file of a given size will download in an identical time to, say, a GIF or JPEG of the same size?

i mean my website is build by fully flash mx, so when last night i try to put online and test the loading speed, i found out is terible, cannot load at all,i m using 56k modem, so mean that my movie file to big, right??but my swf file just only 338kb......but this file is sill using the 1st method, i mean everymovie in one file,i didn't separent the movie into sub-movie1 or sub-movie2, so beside using the loadmovienum to load movie from another file, is that any others method or script can really speed up the site????cos it really take tooo much time to loading.......

Flash Vs. Processor Speed - Optimization
While developing Flash sites on this monster 1.4Mhz computer I am often very happy with the smooth of motions and how Flash renders everything so sweet; but later on when I check the same movie on an old Pentium 400ish, everything becomes crappy as the processor cannot cope with the motions.

I then load other heavy-motion websites on that rusty computer and to my shock they perform GREAT; soft motions and everything.

I am obviously doing something wrong, so I am checking with you Flash gurús if you know about any resource on the Internet I can read about Flash optimization techniques, not for downloading but for performance.

I would remain very very thankfull!

i have been working on a flash web site and i have problems in deciding 2 things:

1. Functions or Prototypes?
2. Actionscript or Tweening? (Ex: using a fadeIn function or using Tweening)?

Well, i want the web site to run smoothly and to not be slow. So i don't know what kind of stuff should i use for it. Until now i use have been using both but i am not sure if i am getting the best possible result.

I know there are some hidden methods of Stage and System objects, that are not mentioned in official documentation. Maybe there's also a method alowing to detect the processor speed?

Flash Animation Speed In IE Vs. Netscape

I'm making webpages in which each page has a flash movie in it. There is narration and animation that are in synch in IE but when the page is opened in Netscape 6, the narration sounds the same but the animation plays too fast, so that what's spoken does not correspond to the animation.

Why does this happen, and is there anything to do about it?

Flash And Browser Speed Issues
Hello,

Can anyone explain why a Flash file will execute very fast if ran independently but, when launched through a browser it is very very slow. The file hangs, pauses etc. I ran a size report but found nothing out of the ordinary.

The servers speed is not a suspect at this point because the same thing happens from my desktop browser unit.

I might add that the all new screens are loaded into _level0, replacing the pevious _level0 screen.

The swf file is 110K.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Speed Up Playback Of Flash Animations
Hi all,
I have many many flash .swf files to view and was wondering if I could speed up the playback rate. I don't mind if the audio/voices sound like chipmunks as I don't have time to watch everything at normal speed.

The .swf files come in a movies folder while in the root are 2 files: "config.xml" and "index.html" to run everything, so I figure I can edit these to somehow affect the playback speed. Any ideas?

Difference In Speed - Flash 8 IDE Vs Browser
Recently I wrote my first game in Flash 8 using ActionScript. It's a very simple game where you control the ball trying to pick up all the bonuses.
My problem is the difference in speed between Flash IDE and the web browser. The game runs about twice as fast in Flash IDE than in any web browser.
The FPS is set to 75. When I change it to 120, the speed gets faster in web browsers, but also gets faster in Flash IDE, so there's always about 2:1 difference..
Has anyone dealt with this kind of problem? I'm really stuck with it...
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi I'm a flash newbie but am an experienced developer.

I finally am looking into converting some of my java projects to flash. For my first project I ported my voter project www.cheesygames.com/voter

The problem is that the flash version is much slower than the java version.
I created a test page to show the speed difference voter speed test along with the source code for the project.

At this point i think I'm just not doing things in a flash friendly way which is slowing things down.

If anyone can provide any pointers I would appreciate it.

Flash Video Playback Speed

I wonder if anyone could help me with this.
In my flash movie I have a video (that is a loop) that plays from an external flv.
I also have a variable that updates every couple of second with a number between 0 and 100.

What I'd like to do is change to the playback frame rate of the video to match the variable. However. I'd like the scale of frame rates to be from 12fps to 48fps but I cannot change the numbers in the variable so there would have to be a conversion somewhere in the code. (perhaps 0=12fps and 100=48fps)

Can anyone help?

Speed Of XMLSockets Is Different When In Flash Enviroment?
Hi

I developed an XMLSocket game.

It works fine, but my only issue is the socket is MUCH faster when connecting to the remote host from inside the Flash IDE. (Control+Enter).

I am not connecting to localhost, I am connecting to the remote host.

Any reason why the Flash IDE might be much faster than say, a browser?

Thoughts are really appreciated.

Flash 5 Speed In Movieclip Duplication
this is my situation:
I have a "cube" matrix containing boolean values: its dimension is 10 x 10 x 10.
I have an isometric cube movieclip: it rapresents a matrix cell.
In the render function of the matrix i clicle on the 3 dimensions X, Y, Z; if the boolen value is true then I duplicate the movieclip and I put it in the right place (right coordinates).
If I have few "true" value there's no problem....
I tried to fill my matrix only with true values... the render funcion was very slow (about 2 seconds) for my purpose (it duplicates and creates 1000 (10 x 10 x 10) movieclips).
is it a Flash limit (or Flash 5 limit!!!!!)?
are new Flash releases optimized in movieclip duplication?

Want To Increase Speed Of Flash Site...
Hello, I have decided that the overall speed of a site I'm working on is not fast enough. I'd like to increase the pace, but have heard that increasing the frame rate will not really do much on most users' computers as they most likely will choke on parts with heavy proc. usage anyway. I'm using 31 frames per second.

Anyway to fix this without higher frame rates? Or will a higher rate be fine and I just heard wrong. BTW, 45 FPS is giving me the desired speed on my computer. powerbook g4 1.33ghz.

Flash App That Tests Connection Speed?

I have seen a couple examples of companies that are using a Flash app to test the connection speed of cable modems, T1 lines, etc...

Do any of you have an idea of how this could be done? Any sites I can visit to see a tutorial of this created?
