Getting Search Engines To Find Flash Sites

I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed in quite the same way...

As I understand it, when search engines go looking for hits, they're combing through a website, looking for the most relevant examples of the search criteria. That's easily done with an html site, nearly impossible with a Flash site.

But since a full Flash site still has to reside within an html page, couldn't you place the words you think would be found by a search engine in the html header, or something?

Flash Sites And Search Engines?
hi,
i'm using flash mx 2004 pro and have created a site that is pretty much all in flash. the site makes use of 3 html pages with searchable data for search engines. is there a way to have more content in flash be searchable?? is adding more html pages the only way? can i add dynamic text that is searchable by google or yahoo? i've been searching and searching for the best way that would require the least amount of revamping the site. any ideas or tricks i can be enlightened with would be mcuh appreciated.

Is there any way besides Meta Tags to make search engines like Google pull up a website based on its content? I've heard that Google looks for content within a site...the design I made has most of its content within SWF files. Any ideas?

FLASH SITES AND SEARCH ENGINES Help
Hey there, what are the things that I can do to have my site come out on the search engines ALOT besides keywords and descriptions?

My problem is that I did the whole site using Flash8 and just used dreamweaver for each page i had. I read and it was saying that the most important things to make your site come up first is : keywords, description, text on the site , and images

Is there a way to make it just as good without images and text? (besides submitting your keywords and description to google etc.)

thanks.

Flash Sites N Search Engines?
Hi guys....no doubt this has been discussed over and over before, but Id like a defined answer as to how's best to optimise a Flash site for search engines like Google. Ive found tutorials (like the 2 on here) that tell about HTML site optimization for search engines...but none for flash sites.

Is it best to build a HTML site alongside the Flash site?? (what do you do though if it's not in the clients budget to have a HTML site aswell and they want a Flash site?)....have a splash page with a HTML description on prior to entering the Flash site??.....do hybrid sites only?

How do you guys get round the problem?

cheers

Search Engines And Flash Sites
I just read the tutorial/essay on Search Engines:
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/searchengines.htm
but I'm still confused. Can spiders crawl through loaded .swf's?
A "Flash Site" usually resides on an html page, with the "pages" loading on top of itself.
So how can different Sections of a site be meta-tracked? Should the index page have ALL the metas? What about the working links that spiders like to trace?
(I'm getting ready to do a site for a real estate company, and they're asking about google, etc)

Flash Sites And Search Engines?
I know its probably been discussed a thousand times before here, but...

How do you guys set up your beautifully crafted Flash sites so they're search engine friendly?

I know about cloaking, which is a bad idea and I know Macromedia suggest building an alternate HTML site...but what happens when I client asks for a Flash site and it's not in their budget to have a HTML one aswell?

cheers!

Flash Sites Invisible To Search Engines?
I've heard that search engines have lots of problems reading Flash file types and thereby indexing them. In extreme cases a Flash site may be completely invisible to search engines.

Does anyone know if the above is true, and if so, what a good solution may be to this problem?

Any replies appreciated!

Getting Flash Sites Listed With Search Engines
I am very confused.

I have been using flash for a while now, but had never really looked into the issues around getting flash listed with search engines. I stupidly thought that sticking a few meta tags on the gateway page and the page holding the flash movie would suffice.

Having been looking into the subject I am feally mighty freaked out about the whole thing. Almost every article that I have read about getting your site listed says in bold text;

"DON'T HAVE A FLASH ONLY SITE"

I am having difficulty believing that the only alternative is to build a second version of your site in HTML to entice the spiders into giving your site a good listing.

Is there any real alternative? Is there any way to have a Flash only site and a shot at getting a good search engine listing????

Any help is hugely appreciated

Hi,

I have a framed site. how do I keep search engines from listing the top pages or bottom pages? I only my homepage listed with all the pages that make up the frame.

Also, I have seen sites where if you try to enter from the TOP or any "loose" frame it redirects you to the correct entrance.

anyone know how to do that as well?

thanks

I am using meta tags now... does anyone have any suggestions on how else to get search engines to list my site?

People say the reason for not making an entirely flash web site is because the search engines won't be able to read the content.
Is there ways to fix that.

I was thinking that if you incorperated text bellow the swf file describing all key points of its content. Then use Java to size the browser window to fit the swf

In that instance would the search engines still be able to find the text. If so would that not solve the problem of Flash and search engines?

Just curious

I heard recently that flash sites are hard to find when using search engines. I am not very familliar with this side of things. What and where do search engines like google look for?

I suppose that an ENTER html page (you know the ones, with get flash player, screen resolution recommendations etc) perhaps some information could be put on that page to help it get found?

What are your thoughts on this? Have you built a flash site and figured a way around this problem?

Thanks.

Flash And Search Engines
Been looking through the posts re Flash and how search engines read the movies and theyre all a bit old so would like to pose a few questions:

Can search engines now read the text in flash movies?
Ive heard that since the swf format became public domain that search engines can now read the text in them (and Im not just talking about the Publish settings in the html)

If they can, how does the SEs rate the content? Similar to plain html or are there restrictions? How Google rates it is the main interest.

Any info would be great

Flash In Search Engines
How to get Flash text indexed and searchable, that is the question. Is there any way besides Meta, and the ghetto way I do it?

The way I do it is to make an HTML page that mirrors your text in Flash, then also have an invisible movie that will send them to your actual Flash site. Then if a person finds your HTML pages in a search engine they will go strait to the Flash page. It works but its kind of cheap.

Does anyone else have a way they do it. Server-side and Flash? Hidden text on the Flash embeder? HTML coated text box? There has to be an easy way!

Thanks

A question about how search engines read Flash.
When publishing a flash movie to .html, the text is written into the .html for search engines, correct?
I have tried to search for different pieces of text nearly three months after uploading, but have only had success when searching for the "main title" of each page, not the bodt text.

Anybody a pro at search engines and what they are actually "reading" these days?

Search Engines And Flash
hello
i have conducted a full reserach on the topic of how to make my flash site viewed by search engines. I came out with two main solution:
1. using css and 'z order'.
2. using agent detection, detecting that an agent is reading my site, and displaying html text only.

so which one is better?
Is one of the solutions illigal by google and such and will be blocked?
does some one actuly uses this methods?
is there a better one?

:-)

It seems to me that search engines have a tough time with my flash movie. I would do a test search and the only thing a spider would detect is what is on the idex page, on mine http://www.tsigold.com it does see the EBAY link and my site counter, all which is on the html index. Can I copy and paste onto the index page a way the search engines will detect the keywords I use on my index.

Flash And The Search Engines
I have been testing my flash files with the Macromedia SDK tool to see how search engines will read my text and links. It worked fine with static text, but once I brought in a textarea and applied and XML file to populate the textarea with text, the SDK output was blank. It clearly states in the read me file for the SDK:

Text
By default, swf2html extracts the following text:

text on stage in the current movie (dynamic text, static text, or input text that has an initial value assigned)
text on stage in a movie that is called with movieClip.attachMovie()

Does anyone know if their is somthing specific I need to do either in the SDK protocall in DOS or in the FLA file itself to allow SDK to read my XML data. I know the XML works, as it appears fine in the actaul .SWF file.

Any help would be Greatly Appriciated!

Flash And Search Engines | Do They Mix?
Hi people,

Just looking for a few quick thoughts on the subject. I do a little web design in the place that i work but it's always highly optimised for search engines etc. Personally i've always had a great affection for Flash and enjoyed tinkering around with it but never really considered it as an alternative solution for developing a website. In recent months i've seen some really great websites that seem to be completely in flash which look really great. So my question is, is it fine to use flash to build a complete website, and if using flash how does it work with search engines? can they be picked up as well as a basic web files?

Cheers - Dave.

[F8] Search Engines And Flash
I prefer to use Flash. I always place each swf in its own html page so the viewer can use the back buttons. I also put keywords in the head. However, I was told that search engines use content in the body much more to rank sites. How can I get a search engine to recognise and list my flash sites? I thought of putting a content paragraph in html behind the swf so it was hidden from the viewer. But I heard that search engines disqualify a site if it has hidden html. Is there any way around this? Thanks

Flash In Search Engines
Hey ppl.

I have a annoying friend who runs professional web/ecommerce company. Now ive been creating a web site in flash. Its a major clothing site which is a very big site - right now its half complete and its over 20 swf`s, il also have a database and some middleware to make it more efficient futher into development.

the site follows the one html page (index.html) n then the flash site launches style.

Ok my problems start everytime i talk to him. He says that there are major problems submitting flash sites to search engines - in particular google. He made technical terms something with the words meta-tags (which i think i know about) and then more importantly cloaking - something which he says after time can get me removed from searches such as google. cant remember the rest of his long list. Does n e one know n e thing about the subject?

eventually i would like to see my site in the top 10 rankings which is very important to me. so i need to know about this!!

Also where could i find more details on this stuff cause ive realised studying all these books ive never dealt with these issues.

so can we dicuss this problem n if possible get a solution so i can shut him up!!!

Hello
how is it best to ensure that our Flash sites are available in search engines ?
i have done a site and placed it all in a Dreamweaver table, so that it is html. it registers with google etc no problem.

this time, im a bit stuck : i want to have a background that fills the entire screen and that i can (perhaps) move around. im lost as to how to interface DW with Flash in order to make sure that my project (or atleast the background) fills the screen.
i would prefer this time round to just FTP my files straight from Flash to the server. i want to do this so that what i see on my stage is what i will get on the browser. or am i wrong again ? maybe i just need to learn how to integrate Flash and DW better ?
-thanks
