Glitches When Using Colours
Sometimes when I use the paintbucket tool, it messes up colors that are touching the area that I color.
For example, I might use the paintbrush tool, select the color red, and draw a happy face. I decide to color the happy face with a different shade of color (pink) so I use the paintbucket tool, but when I do it, the entire face turns this new color (even the eyes and mouth that I drew in red)...so it just looks like a blob.
I have also had a symbol that used a lot of colors, but I needed to edit it, but when I do, certain parts of the details in the colors turn into "blobs".
Does anybody else have this problem?
Do you guys have any glitches working with this program or am I doing something wrong?

Inverting Colours Or Replacing Colours
is it possible to use AS to replace a certain colour with a another one?
To explain, I have a large number of fla's with text in them, and most of the text is black, but some of it is multi-coloured. I would like to be able to change the background to black and the black text to white, while keeping the coloured text the same. The fla's are pretty complex, with most of the text in movieClips, so to try and select onlt the black text and make it white is way to complex...plus, I want to give the user the option of either black background white text, or white background black text...

as per my original question, is there a replace colour function, or any way of making ONLY the black text white?

Glitches Anyone?
Dont know if anyone can help but I'd sure appreciate it. I'm using Flash MX 2004 Pro. I'm having two problems... for one no matter what I do some of my buttons just refuse to work. Ive tried scripting directly to the button, and also tried scripting to the main timeline using the function() code... especially seems to be an issue with buttons that are nested inside of movie clips. Secondly, Flash is playing sounds when is shouldnt be. There is no way these sounds could be linked to the areas they are playing in. Ive even tried renaming the sounds, deleting them and then re importing them and the same thing happens. How is this possible? Any help would be grand. I have a week to complete my final project.

Getting Rid Of Glitches, Getting It To Run Smooth
Havent found any tutorial about this so I could use some help.
Lets say I make a ball or a cube go from left to right.
To get rid of any glitches my fps should be as high as possible?
Will the entire movie go faster or what?

Lets say I want to make a slide bar or a window that gets bigger or an image that scrolls really fast. How do I do this without getting any glitches. When I try it looks very , well, unpro.
I guess Its a combination between fps and using jpegs,bmps or gifs.
Should I let my movie clip have alot of frames with high fps or low,, bah,, I think your getting the picture about how little I know.
I know nothing about this so can someone please take some time and explain this to me. It would help me out alot.

Looping Glitches
Hi
I have produced a short flash movie as a front page to my Dfreamweaver based website. This movie is about 2 seconds long with an animation in time with a background drum loop. However I can not get the movie to loop consistently - the synch between the animation and the music varies resulting in a silence at the end of a loop, or the loop starting too soon. As the site is for my funk band this is not good!!
I have tried cutting the loop into individual drum hits but the timimng is really inconsistent throughout the whole loop.
Any ideas?

[CS3] Text Glitches

OSX Timeline Glitches
it seems like flash wasn't made to run on an apple. the authoring AND the swf files work differently than on PC.
I've noticed sooooo many times when on the apple at work that if i delete keyframes and remove tweens, the timeline wont update unless i scroll to the right and then back again, in the timeline. WEIRD!!!
And swfs seems to run slower on the apple than a PC.
I am on a brand new G5 at work, and we have a crappy old PC for testing. The SWFS run smoother on that little thing that they do on the G5!!! what the hell!?!

Darned Glitches....

I posted this yesterday, but my post seems to have disappeared...
Im making this game, inwhich you are packman, and you run around shooting ghosts (original, eh?). Anywho, when you kill ghost 2, ghost 1 goes along with it.
Now, I realize you can solve my problem just from that, so here is my .fla

Weird Glitches
does anyone experience strange glitches once they get past about 17000 frames in flash mx 2004 pro?
when i convert things into symbols past 17000 they suddenly turn into large, bright blue squares. Also, if i put anything into a keyframe past 17000 or so, the frame doesn't go grey and the object is then unmovable.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Glitches In My Site
OK so in my website there are certain places where ill scroll over a movie clip acting as my button and all the content shifts simultaneously in the same direction by a few pixels, but its not supposed to, and when i scroll off, the content doesn't shift back... and there are also some places where the content shifts back and forth when i scroll over and off. I don't know why the content shifts this way so i need some help figuring it out. Any ideas?

Odd Glitches In Flash
Ok bear with me here, I'm very new to Flash MX. But I got this site:

Notice how when the speakers come out, they look very grainy while animating. Is this a common artifact when Flash rotates (no scaling) a raster image? Is there a way around this? The file itself is a PNG image with an alpha transparency used for the speaker.
Also, notice the side panels (one on the left, three on the right) Notice there are 3 components; a top, a middle which carries content and a bottom. The middle is 185px wide, and I made the top and bottom components 185 as well, but I dont know if it's just me, but it looks like the top and bottom are not as WIDE as the middle sections. I don't think this is an illusion caused by close colors or anything, and I double checked the flash file.
Right click and press PLAY repeatedly to make the speakers go out and come back in.
I'm not sure how I'm gonna develop this site; I think I bit off more than I could chew; but I'll do this all step by step and frequent the forums for the know how to get it complete.

How Do I Synchronize Two Duplicated Mc's Without Glitches?
Hi,
I've got two mc's that are suppose to be playing simultaneously. Both duplicate mc's are called "Cloud Motion Tween" and there is one on the main timeline that has a brightness of -55 and the other duplicate of that mc is inside a mask in a mc called "Nav Bar (About)". Both mc's are suppose to be in sync.
Now every time I rollover the "Nav Hit Panel" button the mc inside the mask starts all over again and stuffs up the synchronization of the two mc's.
I have attached the fla file. You'll see what I mean.

Animation Package Glitches
I have a thumbnail viwer effect class that zooms in, fades in, and scales each thumbnail when you rollover each one. It is using the Alex Uhlmann Animation Package and it works great when you go slow over them. If you go fast, there are a lot of jumps and random glitches that happen. I know it is because the animation of the scripting hasn't finished yet if you go fast so it just throws it off. Is there any way to get rid of it? Here is the class. Just name the class "skins.as" and then put a bunch of linked movieclips to that class on the stage and you will see what I mean. Ineed a solution fast!

Weird Glitches On Animation
Hi Folks,
I'm working on a as3 project and I've been having problems with a werid Glitch on the movement. Any movieclip i move across the screen glitches, like an old CRT screen.
I thought it was resources so stripped everything back and nothing. Finally I produced a simple MovieClip with a drawn rectange in it and animated it across the screen in a number of ways, Tween Engines, Enter Frames and timers. Every single one of them had the same effect.

Random Movie Glitches.
Im still learning actionscript and i've hit a problem I dont know how to fix. When I test or play my swf files that I made with as3, they will missread or completely misread lines of code, which makes certain parts of my movie malfunction. It will also stop playing a tween half way through the time i assigned to the tween. The link below is so you can see what im talking about. If you keep refreshing the page every time you do it you will more than likely see a new random glitch. Im pretty sure it is because i have about 250 lines of code within one of the movieclip that repeats the same function but just for all the different links because I dont know how to set it up so that I can set them all to run off one function. PLEASE HELP! I also attached the fla files. If anyone knows if its my code messing up or if its the flash player being a jerk I would sure like to know, I have to finish this site by monday night! and if someone could show me the code to set a bunch of movieclips to a single function that would be awesome too!

Audio And Video Glitches
Hi,
I deployed a flash video on a bunch of sites about a year ago and it worked fine.
A few weeks ago, all of a sudden on all the sites (different hosts, servers etc) the audio has started glitching out and occasionally the video, too. I can only assume this was caused by an update to flash, though I can't be certain. It's a really simple flash video player that loads and external .swf file and plays it. I have no idea what to do at this point.

It plays fine on the flash player that comes with the flash app, but not once loaded to a server through a browser.

Dropdown Menu Glitches
OK here's the problem. I'll see if I can explain this correctly. Below are both links to my .fla files. One in which the dropdown menu works correctly and one in which it doesn't. In both there are movie clips called "Dropdown" that control the drop down menu (the dropdown menu is drops down from the word "design" on the stage. In the working one I have the "books" button active and it leads to a scene called "Design-book", at the present time that is the only button that is active. This functions fine.
Now when I try to add an action to "posters" in the dropdown menu, all of a sudden the dropdown menu gets all glitchy and disappears a lot of the times while trying to scroll through it.
What my guess is to whats causing this: the "books" layer has a tween that is a movie clip and then that turns into a button as the movie progresses (after the tween is finished), the action to go to the scene "Design-book" lives on this button and it works properly. Now, on the "posters" layer, the tween and the frames after this are a movie clip. But here goes another problem with this, when I try and make the frames after the tween a button, it won't work . The same things continues to happen. I don't quite understand why this is. Anybody out there with some ideas?

Mysql->php->mp3->loadSound Glitches.
I have some problems with an mp3-player I've built. It's too much code to post here so I'll give you a clear (hopefully) description of my player and my problems...with some snippets of code perhaps.
The player's functionality:
1. The player gets the file URLs from a mySQL database via php in XML form. (Works fine)
2. The player has play,stop,next and previous buttons. (Works fine, almost)
3. You can also seek to different positions with a seek-bar. (Works fine)
4. You can change volume with another bar.
5. The current trackname (also from XML) and the next trackname is shown.
That's the player and it's interface functions.
So what's my problem?
Well, I never notice it - since I'm sitting on a test server and everything is loaded directly from my HD - but my friend (who I'm building the site for) gets some very strange effects when using the player:
When skipping to a new track, or when pressing "next" a few times in a row, the player starts to studder/glitch and it becomes impossible to stop the sound. It keeps glitching until you reload the page. By glitching I mean: The sound stops, then suddenly you can hear a short burst of sound, a pause, a few short bursts, a pause...and so on.
I've tried to replicate the problem without any luck (I've now tried at work, connecting to my home computer, and I've gotten the same error). I got another friend to try and he only managed to break it after pressing "next" about ten times as rapid as he could...but it broke none the less, and that's unacceptable for me.
Here's a quick run-through of the code:

Here, as you see, I stop a setInterval with the function "endGuiUpdate" which stops redrawing the players visual stuff. Then it simply checks if I want to skip forward or backward in the XML-array I have. When it knows which, it runs the function playListPlay():

This function streams the mp3-URL stored in the nodeMp3-array, and I think this is where the problem lies.
First, an interval starts to check if the sound being loaded has reached a certain amount of bytes. Then I stops the sound (I just noticed that the interval lies first, which it shouldn't, but that part seems to work anyway when I trace). Lastly, it loads the new mp3.
When the checkIfLoaded function runs each 50 ms, it checks if sound.bytesLoaded >= 10000. If it is, the track starts to play:

As you can see, I have sound.stop() at several locations. This is because my friend(s) reports that when they skip to the next track, they sometimes get a short "pop" from the next track, then silence while it "buffers"...and then it begins to play correctly. So I've tried to eliminate any "pops" by stopping the sound, several times, to make sure that nothing is there.
I have also removed the sound.onLoad function, since it replays the file when the whole file is downloaded - even if you've told loadSound to stream.
I hope someone has the energy to read all this, and know what I'm doing wrong because I can't figure out what the problem could possibly be.
Should I perhaps delete the sound object and create a new one for each track? How would that be possible?

Carousel Modifications - A Few Glitches
Hi all,
I've used the carousel from http://www.gotoandlearn.com and have made some modifications.
Main things are that the motion is now controlled via 2 buttons and not on mouse movement. I have also added a getURL attribute so that I can add a link to the icons through the XML sheet.
All works fine - but there are 2 glitches:
1/ when running the swf offline - 90% of the time the getURL doesn't seem to work. Even when you view it in IE it still won't open a browser when you click the icons. (This problem seems to occur more on mac that pc)
2/ when you first run the animation there is one icon (back left) that sits atop all the over icons - it looks like the depth of the icon is a little buggered.
These are my glitches - and I was wondering if someone would take a quick look at the animation to see if I've missed anything out.

Glitches With Certain Embedded Fonts?
I have been having difficulties with certain fonts such as Verdana or Georgia not displaying correctly, apparently it is ignoring certain characters and not displaying them correctly.
Ex: Te Loin instead of The Login.
The font displays perfectly in the Flash IDE, but does not display correctly when published.
Anyone else have a similar problem, or know of a fix??

Aol 6 Glitches With Mx Dynamic Images

while aol in pure evil in the universe, those whose clients require functionality in aol need to note that aol 6 will err when loading a series of dynamic images - for instance, if you load multiple images based on database response, aol 6 will not load some of them - in some cases none of them will load. while aol will share the same temporary internet files folder and the base i.e. 5.5 browser application, it will render swfs improperly. if you clear the cache and load it with aol, it will glitch, but if you first hit the site in i.e., the hit it with aol, it works fine, as it is using the cached files from core i.e.
this issue is resolved in aol 7.
those who care will need to detect.
i bring this information to you with great sacrifice - i actually had to install an aol trial for testing...i feel so dirty.

Very Peculiar Drawing API 'glitches' - Is It My Code Or Is It A Bug?
I've attached a .zip file with the .fla inside.
I'm not sure which part of the code is causing the weirdness, but there sure is some weirdness happening.
Basically, export the .swf, then click on the New Shape button. This will display a grid of nodes which you can click on to define a shape. Once you click on the 1st node for a second time, the shape is defined, and the nodes disappear.
Now, notice how when you click on the nodes, random bits of line/shape seem to appear all over the place. Is this my dodgy code, or is it a bug with the drawing API?
Another glitch is that the code to snap the object to the nearest gridpoint is not working. If you drag and drop a completed shape it snaps to a random point, as opposed to the nearest one.
Lastly, the completed shape is not rotating when you click the rotate button :-(
I know this is a lot to ask, so I'd be super appreciative if anyone can solve ANY of the confusion above, especially the drawing glitches, as I'm tearing my hair out over them!

[MX04] Game Glitches And General Help
So I'm trying to create a flash game for my class project.
It's a shooter game, however i am having this problem where when i fire bullets, sometimes they freeze onto the screen.

FMS Audio (MP3) Glitches - Hosting Issue Or Not
I've got several webinars that an associate of mine helped me build several years ago in Flash MX 2004. They are about 40 minutes long, but have been broken into about 8 chapters (seperate .swf files). The .swf files connect to audio (mp3) streams running off of an external hosted FMS server via RTMP. We are using the older MediaDisplay and MediaPlayback components from MX 2004 to play the audio while the screens within Flash are setup with cuepoints to sync to the audio.
This has worked for years, except the problem is that the chapters do not always seem to make the connection to the external FMS audio. Sometimes simply pressing the pause button on and off will get it to play. Other times you have to refresh the screen. I can't figure out if this is a hosting issue or not. We have tried a few different FMS hosts at this point at about the $100/month plans, but keep having the same problems.
What can we do to eliminate (or diminish) these connection problems? We really don't want to redevelop these at this point in time, so if there is anything we can do to modify what we have or our hosting, that would be helpful.

Weird Display Glitches With Loaded Movies
hey there,
I am designing my portfolio site and am inporting old .swf's from over the past few years into the portfolio swf and displaying them there. Problem is that when i do there are weird display glitches.
The screen doesn't refresh and there are layers of graphics showing that won't clear even though the individual swf's work fine.
any ideas as to why this is happening? i'm at a loss!

Upgrading Zelda Game ~ Actionscript 2.0 Glitches?
I've been learning about the various ways to create TBWs in flash and I found a neat example of a zelda game. I attempted to make some modifications to see if I understood the code and just renaming a few variables slows the swf down substantially and it doesn't work correctly. Then I tried to just copy the little example piece by piece to a new Flash 8 document and it doesn't work there either! I must be missing something so if you could look at what I've attempted to modify thus far and tell me where I went wrong that would be a great help as I just can't figure it out! The example is only a few functions so it should be quick to fix for those more experienced with flash than I.

[MX] Messy Game / Glitches,code,errors HELP
hello, i am somewhat new to flash and i have been working on game coding with random things, such as making a character move and animate to button presses, jumping with gravity, health bars, and the such. Eventually if this works out i want to make my own game with my own graphics, but for now i would appreciate some help with a couple things. Take a look into the attached file for a detailed look at the glitches lol, when you start off, you are on the ground, but thats just an "illusion" i placed the MC there, i would like him to move up hills and the such and make the onGround hitTest work. This goes along with the jump function problems i have, i would like him to jump on key press and stop when he hits the ground, not WHILE the key is held down, (when you look at the file youll know what i mean). Well, i think the WHOLE jump function i have is just not right for what im doing, i would like this to turn into a platformer style game, and i need gravity mechanism to work so if there is a hole, you dont walk over it, the gravity is ALWAYS present, so if you jump you basically defy it, my code is messy so bare with me pls lol. One more thing...i know this is a long obnoxious help cry, the txt boxes i have for the "life" of the character and the enemy, well they dont work right, when its over 100 i tell it to stay at 100, so you CANT go over, but it does, and when it hits 0 to stay, but it will go to 0, then count to negatives where your damages will make the number go "up" and healing pad makes it go "down", again sorry this is SOOO long, MUCH APPRECIATION FOR YOUR TIME!!!!

Expandable Tweened Button, Works But Glitches.

Gooday all - see if you can help, it's very simple...
Using MX Tween Class, I have a button_mc partially visible on the stage (under a mask) - onRollover the button extends. onRollOut the button retracts.
I'm capturing the current button_mc._x position with a variables to keep the tween smooth.
The simple code looks like this:

For some reason though, I don't think the tween is being reset. If I rollOut BEFORE the rollOver tween is finished - the button completes the rollOut function THEN snaps out as if it's finishing the rollOver???
Any ideas what I can do to remedy this please? Your help would be brilliant.

Motion Glitches When Rollout Before Tween Finishes
I have a movieclip with a simple "start" and then "end" motion tween, with proper script to run the rollover and rollout.
my problem is that when I rollover the movieclips and it begins playing the 10 frame tween, if i quickly rollout before the 10 frames have finished it gets choppy and acts weird.
If I rollover, let it play the 10 frames through and then rollout it's fine.

Tween Class Transitions Creating Weird Visual Glitches?
Hullo fine people
I've been knocking together a wee image gallery app, and I've used the new AS3 Tween Class to swish the images left and right with cute little scaling and alpha eases.
The coding of such transitions is indeed vastly improved (random garbage collections stopping the transitions aside ) over AS2 ... however, I can't help but notice that there's an awful lot of flicker and visual glitching on the end result.
See my work in progress example to see what I'm on about - when the transitions are in motion, there's very noticeable flicker and glitching until it settles into the ease and finishes:

Does anyone know why this is or what I can do about it?
I was thinking about writing custom functions to manage the transitions and ditching the Tween Class alltogether, but wanted to know if this was likely to have any effect before I start.

Colours
after just experimenting with several forms of solid colours and also gradients, I have noticied that none of them give a (3D sorta effect.
I was wondering what people do in order to make their menus and banners have a better "feel" instead of that bland solid fill.

HEX Colours
Flash and Dreamweaver use HEX colours, works great with photoshop6 and 7 cos they support it to. But what if I only have photoshop5, is there any way around it so that I can perfectly match colours?

0x And Colours
I have a variable myCo1 whos value is AFE7E7.
In flash for me to be able to use it it is required in the form 0xAFE7E7. However I cant seem to just stick 0x on the front to use in dynamicGradientFill. Outputs "Hexadecimal digits expected after 0x" or just doesnt work.
Can anyone help?
Also if someone could give me a quick rundown on what exactly the 0x is for. and why when you trace(0xAFE7E7) it outputs 11528167. Generaly how the colour system works. Much appreciated.

Background Colours
I've sorta finished the first stage of my first Flash piece thanks to a lot of help from people on this website. I have one problem though. I have sixteen graphics in my piece, and 13 of the sixteen show a different colour background than the other three. I've looked and looked to find the difference in them, to no avail. They all seem to have the same RGB colour. Does anyone have any ideas?

How Do I Get Text In Two Different Colours?
Em... bit of a silly question really...
But how do I get text in two or more different colours?
This is what I'm doing...
I have a text box... with loads of text... a few paragraphs say...
I highlight individual words and change their colour.
Looks OK in Flash itself...
BUT... as soon as I test it by making the SWF...
Well the text comes out in one colour...
What am I doing wrong!

Dynamic Colours
What I want to do, is make a site with dynamic colours. So that the user can choose what colours the site is. I have set up some mc's that I would like to change the colour of but I'm not sure which command to use. I can't seem to get setRGB to do anything at all, but I'm probably just doing it wrong. What command should I use for this and how should it be used? I am fairly competent in actionscript so I can set up the controls and everything, I just need to know what command to use for the colour setting, and it's syntax. Thanx in advance

Movieclip Colours
I posted this in the actoinscrpt forum but to no avale, so i thought id try it here.
Ok, I am only a beginner so be gentle and dont moan if this has been asked many times before. I have a movieclip which is a black square and instance name bigblacksquare. I then have 4 buttons called bluechangingbutton , redchangingbutton , greychangingbutton and greenchangingbutton . I want these buttons to change the colour of the square.
What code will be needed for each button, the movieclip and the first frame of the movie.

---Dynamic Colours---
I've made a small movie with 3 buttons, the first attaches a movieClip every time it is pressed, the second removes the movieclips one by one and the third clears all attached movieClips. All the buttons work but i want a little more!
I want to have it that when the movieClips is attached, it is randomly set a colour from a selection of colour variables. I've tried a few methods but none of them worked, I can only get it to set a single colour.
I've attached the .fla file in the hope that this will help.
