Flash :: Good Book Learn?

Could You Suggest Me A Good Book To Learn AS3?
Hi folks, I would like to learn actionscript 3 from the scratch, and I would like to know some good book title.
In order to help me, I'm going to shortly describe my starting point and what I would like to do.

So...

I'm a web developer with these skills:

- Coldfusion (good)
- a bit of Java (very poor: basics and OOP concepts)
- Javascript (very good: json, oop, framework like EXT...)
- HTML (excellent)
- CSS (excellent)

I never used before flash nor actionscript, and I would like to learn flash as3, in order to realize applications and games for mobile phones (with flash lite) and desktop (with AIR... now I've did some AIR experiment with js, but it is quite limited).

Which book can I buy? (a book from the basics to the advanced stuff)

Looking For Good AS3 XML Tutorials To Learn From
Hi, Everyone

I am tring to create a flash AS3 flash gallery, and I am needing to get the data about the images to load from an XML file.

Things I need to know is how many nodes the xml has (how many images) the images will have different names, so I can't use the image001.jpg, image002.jpg, ect trick.

How to loop thru the XML for each node

Here is what I am looking from an XML File per image.

1. Image Name "Test Image"
2. Image Location "http://myserver.com/images/imageSomething.jpg"
3. Image Description "This is the description of my image"

I have found a couple places that have some AS3 type XML tutorials

One Tutorial talks about E4X and the other imports a bunch of stuff in something called a package..

Long story short is that they both look kinda different and import differently so I am a bit confused on how to start learning on this.. Does some one know the best way or is there a different way that is easier to grasp ?

I even went to Book-A-Millions and picked up every CS3 Flash book and none of them that I found deals anything with XML.

I would love to see a nice tutorial that would tell me how to complete my questions that I am asking.

What are some good sites to learn flash?

I learned a little back then, but I think i forgot it. To my knowledge is it still tedious in the fact that you have to keep making frames and keyframes and stuff to like move something in a very complicated way? I wann learn how to do the vector flash of people dancing. I know they must have converted an AVI to make it vector or do they do it by hand?

Would be of amjor benifit to learn the AS3 structure by way of Flex for the next verison of Flash? What I mean is, will Flash 9's AS be AS3 such as it is in Flex... and if so, would it be wise for me to familiarize myself with Flex's way of coding for that very reason?

Good Place To Learn Working With APIs?
Hi, we have an Astronomy department on campus that would like a random section of space displayed from sky-map.org each time a browser loads the page. I just don't know how to make the api work with flash and use the random math function in AS3.

How Is Action Script? Is It Easy And Good To Learn? Would It Help Me With Animation?
I know Flash very well but not actionscript. I haven't even looked at it yet. But i heard that you can create some cool FX with it so i thought of given it a try. I do have some HTML experince but nothing complicated. I am not a programer. I don't know any programing languages like Java.

Do you think i can do actionscript if i can understand HTML? Is it easier or harder than HTML? And most importantly, where do i start?

Where To Learn Some Good Morphing Animation,sick Of Fade In And Out Pic Animations
I want to know where I can find some great morphing animation scripts from one pic or movie clip to another.

eg.
I have a pic of a tree and a pic of a dog.
I usually do the normal fade out tree, fade in dog and vise versa. I am so over it. I want to do some spectacular stuff!

Maybe like instead of the tree fading out, it like erases the tree to reveal the dog pic. Or some weird way of morphing the tree into a dog.

Can this be done in Flash with actionscript. Will this be hard or can it be a simple matter of altering the movie or pic reference in the script.

Anyone have any samples or tutorials of where I can learn this stuff?

Good AS3 Book?
Can anyone suggest a good all around book about AS3.0?
I'm semi-advanced in AS2.0, and I want to make a transition to 3.0, but don't want to spend the whole time in front of a monitor reading the AS3.0 help file which is quite good, but I think that AS2.0's help file was more 'idiot friendly'. I don't code games, or plan to write any big Flash/AIR applications ( Im a webdesigner mostly), so OOP isn't that crucial, although some OOP examples won't hurt.

And please, no books on making a ball bounce with manual tweening, I want mainly code examples.

Who Can Recommend A Good Book?
Thanks for stopping in, I need a book on Flash MX.

What I do:
I am not new at this. I am more of a developper than a designer. I am fluent with OOP (and event-driven OOP), I understand all of the features of Flash 5. I am able to get around in the MX development environment.

What I want:
Someting that details the new features of Flash MX (components, listeners...). And if possible, something that also details the OOP approach to ActionScript.

What I don't want:
Not really interested in the drawing features... and a lot less in the "environment" (window docking, etc...).

Hopefully, some of you guys have already waded through most of the available books out there, and could lead me in the right direction.

I am really getting into actionscript now and eager to learn more. Having looked at some of the fla's on FK, I am still miles from being at the stage I'd like to be.

Know Of A Good Book For Flash MX AS?
I have just installed a demo copy of Flash MX. Looks like they have expanded greatly on the Actionscript. I haven't used Flash for about 6 months now but this new version has inspired me to learn more.

Good Book Of Techniques?
Hi there,

As a newbie, I already moved forward the stage of the simple flash dev. and I started on doing some scripting. Moreover, I did some scripting and I believe I have a clear understanding of its behavior. Now, I want to get into a more serious scripting, I went to the bookstore and I found 239847289374 manuals about scripting.
Do you know which book would be a good "must to have" as for flash scripting techniques?
Of course I can browse this great site and find plenty of examples, but I like to build things by myself, sometimes you spend more time trying to guess what others do instead of doing it by yourself, don't you think?
