I think I'm a pretty seasoned flash guy but now I'm starting to get to the point where I need to have guestbooks, messageboards and other applications on my sites. Can anyone tell me, from their experience, what is the best way to do this? Either:

A. Figure out how to get the actionscript to talk to the backend (PHP, CGI) so everything can be done in Flash.

or...

B. Just link the applications to an HTML (waaaay easier...)

Ideas? Proven Methods?!

Guest Books And Rollover Effects
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a good tutorial for making a guest book. Please let me know if you know where I can find one. If you look at the attachment, you can see that I tried to make a keyboard at the bottom of the page. I'm trying to make it where the user clicks each letter on the keyboard to type instead of them actually typing with their actual keyboard. I was hoping to get this to work for the guest book, but I don't even know if that is possible or not. I also was wondering if anyone knows how to make the buttons at the top of the page create a drop down menu when the mouse rolls over them. A good example of this is the navigation bar from http://www.dajworld.com/flashworld/ . Please let me know if you know any good tutorials for that also. Please let me know if you can help me. Guest Book Using ASP

Guest Book?
hi everyone,
i am a designer and have little knoledge when it comes to the back end stuff. i am creating a site for a band. i need a guest book, i have never done one before so i looked in the tutorial section and found a great one to use.
I figure, before i do this i will see if i can get the existing one they supply working first.
so i upload it and it doesn't work, this is where i think i am going wrong:

"Change the permissions of the 'GuestBook.txt' file to 777._ You can do this by using Telnet or your FTP program._ With WS_ftp you can right click on the file once uploaded and select 'chmod' - Just check all the boxes off."

this seems easy but i don't know how to do this as i don't have these programs. Can i do this from a text editor or something. I have dreamweaver can i do it from there?
oh and i am running OS X .

Otherwise can someone just put up a blank text file with the permission changed.

the tut i was going off was "Creating a simple Guest Book in Flash" if you want to look.

Creating A Guest Log
how would I got about making a guest log. where you can enter your information...and then submit it, and by clicking submit it would go to a defined e-mail address.

Is that an import or can that be done directly with flash and action script.

i'm trying to implement a guest book for a project i'm doing, and i can't get it to work. i'm using a tutorial i found in flash kit, and it's identical to the one in the tutorial. the only difference is my main movie is embedded in another movie clip so that i can have an external preloader. i think this is messing something up. the link to see the project so far is

Help With PHP Guest Book
Can anyone provide me with some assistance with the FlashMatics PHP Guest Book? I followed all the instructions but I'm having the following problems:When I paste the contents of the 'slqdump' into my mySLQ database, I get a syntax error.
I don't know what to do with the 'process' PHP Script file.

i know a lot of these guest book questions have been posted before...i did do a search, but i can't seem to get anything to work.

i downloaded a guestbook at flashkit http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Inter...8439/index.php

i've enabled my cgi-bin on my webspace (the ITS webpage at Truman said all i had to do is create a folder called "cgi-bin" and then add an .htaccess file with one line of code--does this sound right?)

you can see the problem with the guestbook here: http://www2.truman.edu/~dat725/guestbook.html it always says that i haven't filled out all the text fields out

in the readme file that comes along with the guestbook, it says i need to modify the CHMOD setting on the entry.txt file to 766...i'm not sure how to do this really. i'm using WinSCP to ftp, and the only settings like this i can find has a bunch of R, W, and X's.

Problem With Guest Book?....
I have a guest book I'm using and it is asp code:
Basically you enter you name email URL and then your comments and submit it!!
So once I upload the pages I need to to the server and then test it to see if it works it looks like everything is running fine...I can enter in my name, email url, comments but once I hit submit/post it just freezes on, loading....
So basically it's not reading the data base I'm guessing... I dunno it will not input the comment and I don't know why?!! It should work I've tested it on another windows server and works but for some reason it doen't work on the windows server I'm using
I dl this guest book and all I had to do was:
-extract all files into a directory then insert guestbook.swf into ASP page(maybe I put it into the wrong asp page or do I make my own?)
-edit config.asp file to choice of passwords and rename database
pages used are:
config.asp
admin.asp
detail.asp
doneupdate.asp
gb.mdb
guestbook.fla
guestbook.swf
index.asp (i also have a index.html, dunno if that would cause a problem)
loadedvalues.asp
signbook.asp
Please and thanx if anyone can help...I went through the titorial over and over????

Cant Get Guest Book To Work
I cannot seem to get the guest book to load I really could use some input from anyone...the form is working and I think the PHP page is working but it will not load the result, its from "Creating a simple Guest Book in Flash" by Jeffrey F. Guest Book Problem
Im trying to make a guest book I downloaded a template and have modded it but it is using a access database, I set the read wright permissions ok but it wond read or wright off of my server so what I have done is setup a MySQL database on my server but as I have not got a clue about databases can someone give me some advice?

I have attached the full files.

The MySQL database name is - guestbook1
username is - admin1
and the password - jm314

can anyone help?

Help Making A Guest Book And Bbs
For my website I want to make a guess book and or preferably a bbs page. I want to keep as much of it as I can in flash, but I also only have intermediate knowledge of Flash and actionscript. I understand php/pearl/??? are needed in order for this to work, but I don't know what they are. I am incorporating my flash website into dreamweaver, so if it is easier to do a bbs page or guessbook, please let me know. Otherwise, can somone explain how a bbs/guessbook is achieved using flash? I tried using a tutorial from flashkit, but I was confused with all the php/pearl/etc...

I need to add a guest book to a website I am working on. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to do this? The page I am working on his Flash.

I have messed around with PHP a bit but have had no luck. I am not sure if it is the ISP (Yahoo!).

Php To Asp For Flash Guest Book
I have this problem that server on which I intend to publish my site does not support PHP.
So my guest book which is partialy made in PHP won't show.
I know that server suports ASP.
Is there anyone who could translate my PHP (about 50 lines) to ASP so I don't have to learn ASP from scratch.

Offline Guest Book - HELP
Greetings,

I'm trying to make a guestbook-like function in Flash that captures user entered data on a system and then writes/saves it to a file of some kind on the same machine.

This whole thing is meant to run with no internet connection.
Perhaps using IIS on windows?
