Hi

I have tried to work on my own to make up a guestbook...But I failed in the CGI script editing...I think it must be a silly question, but can anyone help?
All the files of that CGI script (and related files) I had placed at:

I want to know how to change the links to CGI, and what I have to do with Flash after the CGI is ready to use...

I need to learn how to make a guestbook for a band's site that I am designing. What would be the best way to do it? Are there any good ('cause I have limited programming skills) tutorials out there? I am aware of the usuals: Coldfusion, CGI, etc. but I don't really know the best way to do it with Flash. Any help or direction would be of great help. Thanks.

I have a problem with my guestbook in Flash!

The problem is that when i want to delete a message the login popup appearse behind the messages.

It is not a layer problem, but if you want you can ask me to send the fla so you can take a look at the source.

hi, i have used a tutorial from the tutorial section to create a Guestbook, "Creating a simple Guest Book in Flash". The tutorial is from http://www.flash_db.com.

The Guestbook is up and running, but i'm long from finished. The thing i want to know is the folowing:
- When a person writes an entry for the guestbook and he posts it the message appears on the left side of the screen. When the same person clicks more than once, lets say five times, the message appears five times. There is my problem. I would like to make the guestbook work so that when someone puts an entry and tries to click more than once, it only showes once in the guestbook. So people can just keep on clicking to abuse the guestbook.

I hope someone can help me with this, i do not know much about action scripting, but i am eeger to learn.

I have created a site, with a guestbook. It's my first time at creating a guestbook, I'm not that familiar with the more complex actionscript. Mouseover events are the most I've done up till now!! Anyway, I followed the tutorial off this site, which, I don't know whether I'm just being stupid, but for one thing told me how to create the form that visitors fill in, but didn't explain how they would access it, ie, submit new thread button or similar, and then didn't explain what script to put on the clear all button, so if anyone can help with that one I would be grateful. But my main concern is getting the damn thing to work?!? It seems to be doing something, when you click submit, but I'm not sure what.
I just thought someone may be able to look at it and tell me whats going wrong. I have the guestbook .txt file uploaded and the php script, which incidentally I just uploaded the one from the tutorial because I didn't understand it.

hello everybody,

i am using a guestbook that writes entries into a .txt file. if i wanna read the entry the .txt file erases a couple of signs like the !, ?, §, & etc or german letters like ä, ü, ö.
is there a way to make all signs available?

i have done a website in swish, everything is finished except the Guestbook form. I know that guestbook cannot be done in swish, so the only way is to make in flash and then use it in the swish program using 'load movie' action. I think i am correct. But still i couldn't able to make it as i am fairly new to flash.

My outline is to take the input and don't want to display it online. The data will stored either in a 'html' or 'txt' file and should be browsed by our authorised persons only.

So can you people can guide me with better and little easy ways to accomplish this work. If any samples/tutorials, greatly appreciated.

Hey all it's Azrael, I need to know if it's possible to make a guestbook with nothing but just a "*.txt" file and just the fla or swf? I know how to update a site with just txt files instead of having it hard content so I don't have to open up the file but now I wanna know how to make a guestbook out of just a txt file and just the flash movie. Should I use some commands such as

Is there any possibilities to create a guestbook without using the php or mysql things ??? Coz, basicly, I can't use all of them... I've read the tutorial in the flashkit tutorials, they use the .cfm file, even worse, I don't know what it means at all...

I have a problem that is really bugging the hell out of me...
i am updating my site http://www.breakinankles.co.uk at the moment, and am since updating my guestbook design...

i've designed the bleedy thing...got a nice php script working, etc but here's where the probelm is...
the guestbook will work fine just by looking at the individual file...http://www.breakiankles.co.uk/guestbook.swf...but when i try it in my actual site, the guestbook entries dont work...(go to guestbook in my acutal site!)...

its the same file, uses all the same scripts, etc, so why doesn't those pesky entires load up properly???

please help...it's driving me nuts!!!

The server that hosts my site does not allow any custom made cgi scripts. However they have one of their own people can use. I 've been able to get everything up and running in html, but I was wondering if I could also do it in flash.
The form actions in the HTML are:

I gave var names to the input textfields, but I'm not sure what code to use on the send button.

As for the output page, I don't think it is possible to get that into flash. The code is simply the <ENTRIES> tag.
As the script is on their server, I have got absolutely no control over it, so it is very well possible that this is never going to work.

The problem i am having is that when i click the submit button on the form, it is apparently not seeing the flashmessage.pl code, but i swear the pathname to it is correct. i am trying to do a guest book similar to www.retroscope.com.

i have the entire book set but for the life of me i cant the selections down. here is what i need to do. there will be 2 choices. by default there will be "a" (default choice) or "b". i would like the user to select either icon which will be displayed when they submit there message. i know the selection is fed to the database but for some reason i cant figure it out. any help????

Hi, I got a guestbook movie from the movie section of the site [movie ], and it just doesn't work. It uses php to write to a txt file. I've changed the CHMOD of the text file to 766, read through the help file, and also what is said on this thread here , in which someone has the same problem, but doesn't explain how he fixed it. The server uses php 4.1.2.

Any help would be just great....

I've made a guestbook With flash and it uses php(get and post) to an mysql database.
Now When I type something The input is not shown In the dynamic text field.

When I use the submit button I tell to load the variabele(my scriptpathprefix=the url where my php files are located)+"guestbook_post.php",0,"POST"

To load the entries I use
Load variable(scriptpathprefix+guestbook_get.php","POST "

Can anyone help me. And i've called the textfield guestbook

Can anybody assist me in finding a free guestbook that has NO ADS and will let you customize it in anyway. I need to have new fields added to the entries and a drop down box for a multiple choice. well i made this guestbook and was having a bit of problems with it. the frontend is flash mx 2004 and the backend is ASp/Access. You dont need to worry about the backends cause theyre perfect. See basically whats being done is that every record has a unique id number which is generated sequentially....1..2..3..4..5..6...and so on. what ive done in flash mx is ive used the load values command. there are two buttons called next and previous. when the file opens the first record is loaded....namely code number 1. when u click next, flash mx increments the value to 2 then fetches the corresponding record. when you clcik previous the value is decremented by one and the record is fetched. this is all okay but....what im looking for is when the last record is reached i.e. counter == totalrecords then the counter is reset to 1. but this doesnt seem to be working. similarly when the first record is reached and you lcik previous the counter is set to the last record. basicaly its like loop. how will this be done? Im including the fla file and the asp file has been uploaded to my webserver so its no problem for anybody who doesnt have IIS or any webserver installed.

hello people, i used a turtorial to create a guestbook, it works great, and then i used loadmovie to load the guestbook into main. it didn't work, i figured out that some of the script needed to change from "_root.xxxx" to ".xxxx" because the symbols of the guestbook no longer at root level. but...it still not working.

i really have no idea what is wrong now..

Hi,

I'm having problems getting my guestbook to work. Its an open source file I downloaded. It came with the instructions for how to get it set up, but I still can't get it to work.

It works by loading two .as files, I'm pretty sure this is where I've messed up. Could someone take a look at the files and tell me what I'll need to change to get it working on my server? I've been working on it for a week now, but it still won't load. Everything seems to load fine offline, but it won't work when I upload it.

The other thing I don't understand is exactly how the .xml files work. I don't understand if one has to be created for each potential entry, or if they are auto generated. Any ideas?

hi, I went to the www.ultrashock.com website and downloaded the .fla in the library for a database guestbook.

I created the guestbook using the template provided in the tutorials library on their site, and I uploaded into a folder within my directory on my server.
