Help Building A Website.. Dupicating Scenes That Won't Work Like The Origional
hi Using Flash MX
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me...I have started to build a front page for a website. I have made a menu bar with sub menus that drop down, now I would like this menu to be on every page of the website... what would be the best way to do this? because i have duplicated the scene and when I tested the scene I clicked on one of the buttons and the page just flashes and does nothing...

Extra Infomation
I made Scene 1 a preloader that loads scene 2 (the front page)

I have linked the main headings using frame labels but I have not yet linked the sub headings to scenes because this won't work

I have decided to make each new page of the web site a different scene... is this wise?

Building Website Help
Hey all. I'm busy building a portfolio website for graduation and I have two issues:

1)How do I make the entire movie(site) fit into the window (using the internet window's vertical scrollbar)? When I publish the movie and test the html file, only the top portion of the page appears and it doesnt "fill" the entire window, so half of whats on the page is gone.

(yes, i know I could have avoided the issue with a smaller background, but its not how i want it to go down :P)

2)When everything is all said and done, how do I upload my html file onto my site (I'm using startlogic.com to host it)?

I'm using Flash 8.

Any help would be rad.

Is there a site that explains the best setup for a flash website.
What i mean is as follows
When i was jsut starting is Flash i built the whole site using keyframes and the scene timeline.

Then i got better and now i am trying to keep the timeline like five frames...one for each menu option and within each frame have all my animation.

Idealy i would like to do away with tweens and keyframing and code animations like alpha and easing etc...

Can anyone give any advice on the best structure for efficient and robust flash sites?

Helllo, this is my first post on this boarrd, even tho ive been here for quite a while. Well i am in the process of building a website for some friends, and im having some trouble. So far i have all of the movie clips and buttons, but im not sure how to script it so that it works like a website. I want to make it so that when u click on the button, the movie clip pops up in the space ive previded for it. And i also want when i click on a button, for the previous movie clip to disapear.

Im sure this has been asked many times, so if you dont want to explain it to me, could u at least leave a link of where it has been explained before. I have tried searching for stuff, but im not exactly sure what to type for it to search.

Also if you could keep in mind that i dont know THAT much about scripting in flash, so if u could please explain it in a way that would be easy to understand that would help to.

ARG Really Stuck While Building A Website
Okok, this really bites.

it's not that i'm really new with flash, but i know that there are alot of people that can do things with flash that i can only dream about. So that's why i'm typing this message.

I'm building (trying to) a personal website, but i can't seem to let flash MX know that i don't want a movieclip, but a website. I allready figured out how i could make a button work, but the screen keeps racing through the timeline...and i has to stand still, until someone presses a button...

so that's the whole problem, how can i make flash MX listen?

now for short:

building a website, Flash MX, made a button, in preview it plays like a movie.

Q: why is that? and how can I solve it so that it works correct?

Hello everyone.

I am new not only to flash kit but to website building with flash in general. I have been asked to build a site similar to this one: http://www.faithhill.com, albeit a more simple functioning site. Of note is the news on that website and how it has the embedded frame with 2 windows, one with the news item that is clickable and the right pane which is a scrollable window that contains the actual news article.

This is the main functionality I am trying to figure out how to implement in flash 8.

I'm not new to working with code nor with building websites, but I am new to attempting to do this in flash.

I've looked through the samples that come with Flash 8 and I've begun to look through the vast amounts of information here at flash kit, but I'm hoping that this post and some discussion of what I am attempting to do will help shorten the time frame that it will take to figure this out.

Any assistance, or even discussion is greatly appreciated.

I've been wondering if there is any kind of actionscript 3 interface framework available that would simplify making websites with actionscript 3. With that I mean that I could easily change the code to manipulate the content with the navigation and that stuff (somekind of wrapper - example)?

I'm having problems because I want to build a professional flash website where you have dynamic navigation and content - and when you press the button, there are page transitions/animations to switch the content - I have some considerations on how to do this the best way.

I'm having problems with building that by myself and it would be much easier to see some examples on how to do this - like how should I put different things in different classes to make it as simple and professional as possible.

Any help is highly appreciated!

Building A Big Website With Flash

Im building for the first time a website with flash (ac3). but Im not a total n00b to flash .

My plan is it to creat a main.swf file which holds things like the navigation and the language selector (you can choose "ru" or "eng") and it has a function which loads the subpages.swf (i think its better to make the subpages unique becouse they wont look the same at all) e.g. if I click on the second navibutton it should load the 02.swf inside of the main.swf __and__ destroy the old .swf which was there befor. I dont know how to write this function the best way (addChild / removeChild maybe?), but i know how to addEventListener to the buttons.

My second problem is inside of this (e.g. 02.swf) will be a function which fillout the textfields with xml data. So this function needs to get the language var from the main.swf to parse xml with the right language. I know how to do the parsing part. But i dont know how to send a var from main.swf to the page.swf.

I would realy appreciate if someone could give me some tips for that

Building A Flash Website
I am building a flash website, the company logo needs to be animated and displayed on all pages throughout the website which I have completed, but in the main.fla file where the action and content layer lies, there are stop actions in the action layer that are interferring with the animation? I thought if I moved the animation layer above the action layer that it would resolve but it has not? I am at a loss and have no idea how to fix this or dont know if there is an alternative way to accomplish what I am doing? If you can offer any assistance, i would be eternally grateful! thanks guys!!!

Building Flash Website
I am new to everything about flash and currently going through the tutorials at an amazing comfort. However, I am going ahead of myself in trying to understanding a feature i recognized on a site built in flash. I make reference to www.indersfashion.com - when ever you pull up the site in your browser an image shows up as the bachground. If you were close your browser and pull up the same site, a different inage shows up as the background. I have seen over 10 different images as the background for this site and I wondered how is that possible.
Well, my question is what function(s) or is scripting that makes it possible and how can it or is it done?
I would appreciate any help. Eventually, i would love to use this concept for future plans.

Building A Whole Website In Flash
Hiya there people, got an essentially quite simple question but with many, many answers I imagine!!! so here goes...

I am reasonably new to AS3 and generally the idea of OOP, and I'm just about to tackle building a whole site in flash. I'm aware there are a few different approaches to this, and I'd like to know people's practices for organising and putting together a site in general.

Right, so far I have a Core.swf that loads the Intro.swf, followed by the Home.swf... and so on, using the menu that is located within Core. I'm having trouble figuring out how the section swf's are going to reference some of the methods I have in my Core.

Does that make any sense?? I've considered extending all my section classes with my core class, or trying to have static methods in my Core class that I can always access, but there always seems to be a problem!!

...So has anyone got any links to good resources or can people share the way they usually deal with it? So far I haven't found a lot about it! All theories welcome!!

whats up fellaz, i'm a newbee with flash but i have a basic understanding of how to use it. I'm in the process of building a website in flash but i need a lil info. I'm really stuck on what the dimension of the stage should be so the flash movie will fit flush with the web browser. I am building my first big site in Flash.

As I add more and more content and the 'pages' become more complex with subnavigations and forms, I wonder if my approach to building pages - which is to create a scene for each page - is flawed.

So I'd like to ask the experts:
when you build a site do you make a new scene for each page or do you link from swf file to swf file?

Help With Understanding A Website Building Tutorial...

I was doing pretty good until Step 23 and it told me to repeat Step 19. I'm confused because if I repeat Step 19 it will mess some things up. I'm still a beginner with Flash, so I may just be missing something easy.

Random Question About Building A Website In Pieces
i have built an architecture website that is very big and have been told to save space by building/uploading in pieces. i have an idea about what it means but was wondering if someone could explain the concept to me. currently my website is 5 separeate movie clips that all contain 20-30 frame animations and each clip only contains a stop frame at the end and buttons to navigate. regardless of my process, the site is way to big and i could use some clarification. thanx.

So like tons of people on here I am trying to make my portfolio using Flash. I have a decent grasp of what Im doing, I can create animations with very basic interactivity. I am looking for some tutorial books for a novice/intermediate in animation, a pretty comprehensive yet geared for a novice one for Action Scripting and one for websites. How Can I Make Something Return To Its Origional Point?

Building CD ROM E-mail Does Not Work
I am building a CD-rom and the base file for the application is an exe. Each subsequent file that is loaded onto another level is an swf file. the mailto function on the swf files will not work for me, can anyone help me with this, my project is due tomorrow...................

I found that when I have a send mail button that is in an swf that is called into a browser window through HTML the button works. ie when the button is pushed the default mail application is launched. when I launch the swf in a stand alone player the mailto button does not work.

Several Scenes W/in A Website
When the flash site I created with 6 scenes comes up on the internet, the ENTIRE site downloads before even the splash screen can be seen. How can I program the site to where it downloads each scene individually whenever the proper menu button is selected?

Eeeek Website- Scenes Or .fla's?
I'm building a site in flash mx 2004 and have decided to have each page as a scene rather than seperate .fla's like i would normally do.
instead of using getURL()on buttons I am using gotoAndPlay("scene 1"), however when i publish the buttons are ignoring the actionscript and just playing the scenes in a sequence.
How do I get around this?

If anyone can help i'd be extremely grateful!

Using AS2- Building A Flash Site- Two Buttons Work The Rest Dont?
I highlighted the button- went to behaviors- choose movieclip- GotoStop play at frame label on each of my buttons. I don't understand why two buttons work and the rest don't. Is this crazy? Am I crazy. Each have this code but exchange the frame name for different labels--->

Website: Do I Use Different Scenes Or Differnet Files?
I'm creating a website that consists of three basic parts: an intro, a main page, then a link to my picture portfolio.

QUESTION #1: Do I create all three of these things in one file using different scenes? Or do I create three separate files, and link em somehow.

I noticed when I use different scenes the file grows really large.

QUESTION #2: If they were all in the same file with different scenes, would the internet viewer looking at my site have to wait for intro, main page and portfolio page to load, or would each scene load individually, play, move to next scene, load, play, move to next scene, etc.?

Sound In Flash Website Over Scenes
Hi,

Im really looking for some help with a project i am currently undertaking.

I have built a website totally in flash, using scenes for the different pages. I have added a sound track to the "main" page, this is where the problems begin.

When navigating to the page the sound plays perfectly as expected. One you click on one of the other pages and it goes to 'scene 2' the sound is still fine and carries on from the main page.

The problems begin when you click 'back' button and go back to the first scene, the sound continues to pay from the first time the site was visited but also stats again when because you have gone back to the start page.

Is there any way i can stop this? would be good it if would just carry on and not start again when you navigate back.

I have a site and an intro movie I'm trying to get to work. The Intro movie plays but then the second scene opens but is gigantic! I don't get it. Switching Scenes... It Won't Work
I know this is something easy, but I can't get it to work to save my life!

I have a movie with 2 scenes: "intro", and "scene2"

In the first frame of the "intro" scene, I have a 285 frame intro movie. I want this to play completely, then jump to "scene2" to the actual webpage. "scene2" will be done in nothing but actionscript (in the first frame of the scene).

So, in the "intro" scene, in the first frame, I have no script but: "stop();"
At the end of the 285 frame MC, I have:

stop();
_root.gotoAndPlay("scene2",1);

So, when that MC is done playing, it should jump to the next scene... but it doesn't! It just repeats the first scene again!

What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone help me?

Y When I Add New Scenes, Does My Script Not Work?
hi, i was working on these menus for a game im planning on making. after i finished all the menus i started on a preloader in another scene that'd come before the opening menus. when i went to test the movie, my preloader worked fine but ther were some things in the menus acting strange. why does it do that!??! ive experienced this problem many times before. please help!! o and if u need to see the flash file, my aim sn is TurkeyMaster77. im on most of the day, thanks.

i have 2 scene:
scene 1 has 3 layers with mc in each;
scene 2 has 2 layers with mc in each;

how can i make it played from scene 1 to scene 2?

i tried put stop() at one frame of scene 1, and 1 frame in scene 2, then only scene 2 played. or only scene 1 played.

Making Scenes Work Together
I'm using Flash 8 and I have multiple scenes. The scenes all work fine on thier own, but when I link from one to another, stuff starts acting up. Mainly, I have buttons inside a scrollpane that link to frames in their own scenes. They work when I test just that scene, but they don't work if I test the movie and go to those scenes. So I'm guessing this is some kind of path problem, but I'm not sure. This is what I'm using for the links that are in the scrollpane:

on (press) {
_parent._parent.gotoAndStop(1);
}

Or if I give up on scenes, what's the best way to grab all the layers in a scene and everything on them and move it all to the beginning of another scene? Or how do I put everything from a scene into a movieclip?
