Just looking to find out - is the maximum simultaneous http request value through LoadVars or similar url requesting functions limited to the number specified by the containing browser (Eg. Firefox is 8 simultaneous requests I think)?

Or is it some internal value, or even unlimited? I have specified Flash 9 as my version but if you have any insight whatsoever regardless of versions I would like to know.

Hey guys this site is freak'n awesome!!!!

Here is my deal, I have no idea what I'm doing haha, I'm a finance guy and my hobbie is racing. I'm just wanting to build a website for about my car and RX7's in general, I've never done anything like this. It started out to be just some canned program using a template website.....then I saw a friends swish intro on his site and everything went out the door!!!! (BTW - here is his intro http://www.turbovr6.net ) Its nothing amazing like I've seen here, its pretty basic but its pretty cool if your a car guy. Thats basically what I'm after.

Here is my prob though, he made his webiste then added the intro later using swish. Since I'm starting from scratch I seems like I can build a whole website in swish....am I wrong about this????

Where is some good reading material on how to build a website in swish. Kinda like a "swish for dummies guide"

Also is there a good place to get graphics like lightening and stuff like that? During my intro movie I wanted some lightening to flash.

I'm new to developing in flash - i come from a html/javascript background with photoshop/after effects, so I've got a pretty good handle on making stuff look right in flash. I have a qestion:

Is it typical to create an entire website in one scene? How does one structure a site typically? For example a site that will comprise of 20+ pages, some of which will access movies and nearly all will have some sort of gallery function.

What Should I Use To Build My Website?
I just got a host and I'm looking into building my own site which now seems harder than I thought. I want to Macromedia to design the site from scratch. Someone told me to use Flash to design it but when I look at Flash it seems as if Fireworks is more of a website tool. Which one should I use? And which one is easier to master? I have been working on developing a website in flash over the past week or so. I've gone through tutorials and looked at some ideas and drawn up what i want it to look like and all but i have come to a problem. its the Automatic Expanding/Contractin Buttons tutorial on virtual fx. But anyway i can't for the life of me figure out how to get this button to goto and play on mouse click. What is the best way to build a flash website?
would it be by building scenes within one flash movie or by loading external swf file movies. I am trying to do a corporate site, so there will be lots of information which wont be updated. plus there will be animation and banners.

I also need to keep the file sizes down. what would be an average size. so far it is 200k with the animation. is this a lot... if so how can I reduce it? most of the images are vector graphics art.

Can you build an entire website in Flash without using any other program like DreamWeaver.

I tried to do this but came accross two problems:

1. If you press the back button on the main navigation bar, it takes you completely out of the site instead of to the previous page.

2. When shrinking or enlarging the window, the page doesn't resize like most websites do.

i finishing up building my first flash website for a company, i'm used to building sites in dreamweaver, so this is all still a little new to me. I need to make a button that when pressed it will send the email to the person. example:

i've already made the word "email" into a button with rollover, but i need to make that button, that once pressed it will link the viewer to an email program to send the email.

with html it's a simple <a href="mailto:bobjones@yahoo.com">email<a/>, but with flash it's actionscript... i know this might be confusing, but if anyone can please help me it'sd be great. Thanks in advance.

I know CSS is good for swift changes, navigation, and compatibility. Flash... cause it looks awesome.

Ive been told that the boss whats a flash based site but if it takes 5min to load then ill pass....

Start To Build My First Flash Website
I've learned actionscript form resources like video and books. i read some serious tutorials and did many practices and small projects. I'm trying to build my first flash website. do i need to learn Flex? or anything else? do i need to study some other courses? My problem is where to start. what's a structure of a professional and serious full flash website? links? components (if any)? and ... yes i've worked on small swf files. creating actionscript effects, building some easy components before but i'm sure they are not enough. and one more thing! is there any good practical (and specially free!) tutorials based on this concept? Why if I type "http://localhost:8080/flashremoting/gateway" (flashremoting is the context root)in the address bar, I will get a HTTP Status 404 error: The requested resource (/flashservices/index.html) is not available.
If every thing is ok, it should show a blank page, right?

By the way, if I set gateWayUrl to "http://localhost:8080/flashremoting/gateway", I will get an error of "flashgateway.adapter.NoSuchServiceException: No service named flashremoting is known to Flash Remoting MX."

[F8] Links In Single Swf To Http:// Http://www And Https://
Hey everyone, I have an swf with several links to "http://www.infiniteguitar.com/blahblah.php". You can see the swf on the top left of the site here: http://www.infiniteguitar.com/ where it says "Lesson Links".

My problem, is that the links only work when the address bar in the browser specifically says "http://www.blahblah" with the "www". However, if I used the following URLs, the links don't load:

http://infiniteguitar.com
https://www.infiniteguitar.com

Is there something I have to do in the actionscript to make the links load no matter what the beginning of the URL says. I'd like the links to work on secure pages as well as when the "www" is not present in the URL.

[AS 2.0] Error In Build-in/build-out Transition
I used the tutorial done by Voetsjoeba on "Transitions Between External SWFs" on my website to make transitions between content.

Everything is working ok, such as the transitions, but when the transition is starting to build in and you click another one of the buttons it temporarily disables the button that is clicked. So once the content has finished loading the button that was clicked during the load is inoperable. You must then must click one of the other buttons to reset it..

Here is the code that I used.. Since my buttons are not on the main stage I had to change it slightly so it would load the content into the container.

GetURL Works In Http://www.site.com But Not In Http://site.com
I'm using a getURL function to pass some querystring parameters which changes what content is displayed on the page. The function works correctly on the address 'http://www.site.com', but for 'http://site.com' there's no action at all aside from the cursor change. The two addresses are pointing to the same files. The function is as follows:

Ok, I'm aware that when using loadmovie and embedding your main Flash movie into HTML, absolute URLs are best used.

Does anyone know why they only work with the http://www prefix rather than http:// ?

Or more importantly, anyone know how I can get round it?

I have a page that if the URL path in the browser is http://www.domain the page works fine but if the path is http://domain I get that message informaing me that a script is causing it to run slowly and to disable running the script. I really don't understand how to troubleshoot this as it is the exact same page either way. I dont really understand why that can cause flash to malfunction?

Hi Everyone.

I am creating a website entirely in flash.
When a user first enters the website, I want them to be able to type their name into a box.

I then want this information to be stored in the same way that a cookie works, so that each time they enter a different part of the site, the person still gets addressed by their name.

e.g. "Hi *insert name here* welcome to the shop..."

Effectively, I have 2 questions:

1. How can I store the name in the first place
2. What is the line of code I would need to use in order to "call up" this name at a later point?

Trying To Do A Similar Animation

If you mouse over to the left side of the browser window you get sveral colored boxes to alter the interface and its color. As an example, select "I love green"

Youll notice everything changes to green...also a golfer and other respective animations are present upon skin color changes to the site. My question is this; how do you believe that these animations, golfer, dolphins etc... were created? are they seperate swf movie animations? ...or something else? I have been searching for tutorials and insight on this topic but have had no such luck.

If anyone has any insight on doing something like this or any previous experience, I would appreciate your help and wisdom. Thanks in advance.

Ok, i've been working on a dynamic window program, similar to this one: http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Inter...4600/index.php

and both my and this program have trouble when you close the window that isnt the latest one open (ie if you have 5 windows open, if you close the third one 4 and 5 become screwed up and if you create a new window it wont work)

I kinda know where the problem lies but its way too much of a pain to fix...

So question is, does any one know a window programs like this (resize able and create new windows and close any one with no problems)

Help With SetInterval(); Or Similar?

I have used the moveTo & lineTo commands to create a simple line effect that appears during MovieClip.onRollOver. Can someone show me how to use setInterval() to allow this simple effect to first appear and then be cleared after 1 or 2 seconds (while in the onRollOver state)? Here is what I have so far:
