Help, Site Navigation Problems.
I am trying to set up a navigation system that will detect the current frame of a MC and use that information to go to the next frame of a MC.
For example if _root.MC is at frame 1 on release go to frame 2. If it is on frame two on click go to frame 3. Any help would be awesome, i sure need it. Thanks

Help Finishing Up My First Flash Site - Using Navigation To Display Different Sections Of The Site?
Thanks for looking! i am making my first flash site, and im not sure what to do next in regards to navigating through the site. I have different sections, home, info, hardware, equipment, etc, but im not sure how to make each section appear when you click the corresponding navigation link. i have an idea but im not sure how to execute it.
Should i make a movie clip for each section (home, info, hardware, contact), then place each movie clip in its own frame on the main time line, and on each navigation link button (each one is a movie clip) use action script and put a gotoAndPlay() code with the frame number of the corresponding section? so when you click it, it goes to that frame which has the movie clip that has the content for that part of site, say contact, or info?? if so how can i do this?
that sounds really confusing and im sorry but please help out a beginner! Thank you and happy halloween!

While checking through the cool sites column I came accross a neat navigation site by the name of http://inko.ca . I noticed whenever a menu option was pressed the stage would zoom accross the site to another section. This is not the only site using these transitions, i was wondering if someone could please explain how it was done.

Can anyone help me with a navigation question. If you can look at a site for me http://theronin.co.uk and let me know how the left-right scrolling is achieved by using Flash 5. I'm loooking to base my navigation on this style but with a different design.
Any advice & help on this would be great.

Site Navigation And A Whole Lot More - Help Please.
Ok please bear with me on this one. Any help muchly appreciated as usual.
If my explanation doesn't make sense please look at the attached fla.
I've got 3 buttons with an elastic effect (but1, but2, but3).
When I click 'but1' I want 'slide1' to slide across and stop. When I click 'but2' I want 'slide1' to reverse back and then 'slide2' to slide out.
Also, when slide1 is out there is a button within it 'slide1abutton' that when pressed will make 'slide1a' slide out as well. If anything else is pressed I want them both to reverse.
One last thing, on each slide there is a close button which when pressed I want to make it reverse.
Hope this makes sense. I'm thinking abit of Actionscript might be in order. If its too much or you have an idea where a good tutorial on this is please point me in the right direction.
Cheers again.

I am fairly new to flash and I am trying to figure the best way to navigate through my site. I finally found out how to make a button load an external movie clip with behaviors but I have been reading that its better to load my movies inside one movie clip and have the buttons load and unload movies but i cant grasp the scripting. I am using 2004 MX please someone help.

Some Help With Site Navigation
Hi!
I have a webpage that I'm creating, and I was very curious if I could do a few things with it.
First thing, is let's say that I have two layers. The first layer contains the menu on the left side with a colored rectangle for a background, and the top of the site contains a banner. That's the top layer. The second layer, the bottom, contains nothing - but I want to add a scrollbar and some content on the bottom layer, so that it will scroll in the visible area on the bottom layer.
Okay, here's my questions. Is it possible to do this without using a scrollpane? Or without creating your own scrollbar/pane? If not, how do you get the text/movieclip inside the scrollpane to be centered? Mine is all the way off on the left, for some reason, and it's frustrating, because then it's covered by the menu there.
Thank you for replying quickly.

Help With Site Navigation
Hi guys. Hope I'm posting this in the right forum.
I have a deadline coming up for a project I have to complete for school in Flash, and I'm a little lost. The finished product will be an online portfolio of my art and design work. I plan to embed the actual image galleries as HTML files (that is possible, right?) but right now I'm trying to get the navigation figured out.
Here's the flash file I'm working with right now, for reference:
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0...520H9J5UKGW5X3
I want the navigation to mimic an actual portfolio, with tabs to flip through the different sections. Being new to ActionScript, though, I'm having some trouble getting it to do what I want. When I click on a tab, say, the "Design" tab, for instance, I want all flaps in front of it ("Home" and "Art") to fold down, revealing the gallery I will have on the "Design" flap. However, I can't figure out how to get the animation to start and stop where I want it to depending on which button is being clicked. Also, at some points I will need it to cycle backwards through the animation. For instance, if I am at the "Sketches" section and I click on the "Art" button, I will want the "Design" and "Art" flaps to flip back up.
Hope that all made sense.
Like I said, I'm completely new to ActionScripting, and coding isn't really my thing, so if someone could get me going in the right direction, or even fiddle with the Flash file a bit for me, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks!
Edit: Sorry, the URL was wrong before. Should work now.

I have a website coded primarily in PHP and would like to change the header into something a little nicer like flash.
Currently the header has a bunch of navigation links that changes depending on the login details of the user. eg, Guest user doesnt see as many links as a Registered User.
How can I show/hide links within a flash movie thats dependant on a user login?

Site Navigation Help
I have the following code, which is the basics of a site navigation I am told.
I have managed to get the script working and loading a button into an array. But for the navigation element of the code, i have become stuck. Can someone help. Here is the code below.
nav = new Array('-1','-2','-3','-4','-5')
for(var i =0; i < nav.length; i++){
newname="navbit"+i
_root.attachMovie("navbit", newname, i)
_root[newname]._x=110*i;
_root[newname]._y=-500;
Thanks

I received this help to an answer a while ago:
<<Another way to structure your pages, which is nice because you can keep your file to one frame, is to create your pages as movieclips, and load them dynamically from the library as needed into the same depth. If you load a movieclip into a depth already occupied by another movieclip, the new one will overwrite the old one. So for example, you could have something like this:
contactButton.onRelease = function(){
_root.attachMovie("contactPage","contactPage",1)
}
bioButton.onRelease = function(){
_root.attachMovie("bioPage","bioPage",1)
}
so any button that is pressed attaches it's related movieclip into the same depth, overwriting whichever one was there before. It's a nice method I use alot, which avoids keyframes, frame labels, or frames at all.>>
My question is, how do you define what "depth" something is on, and how can I make the new pages replace other keyframes? I have a home page that pulls up, and I have code attached to other links that SHOULD make them change, however nothing happens and the homepage remains.
Also, do I have to define a function here? I'm not sure how to do that or exactly what it means? And where it says "contactbutton.onRelease..." is that a button instance or the button itself?
Essentially I am building a webpage with a navigation bar and for some reason I can't get keyframes to switch around.

Hi,
I'm creating a website and I want to create a navigation system similar to the one found at: www.fantasy-interactive.com, but I don't know how to make a window like that in Flash MX Professional 2004. I've seen various tutorials on this subject however, most of them are out of date, and do not work.
So basically my problem is that I do not know how to make a window in Flash appear when the user clicks a button, and then when the user clicks another button, the window is not visible. I also do not know how to add content into the window, so if anybody could help me then I would really appreciate it. A tutorial would be nice, but if not, then can someone post a simple step by step guide or direct me to a site with an adequate tutorial.

Navigation Within Site
ok, ok...i'm new to flash so my ?'s are gonna be easy for you to make fun of...
General Question: What's the best way to build and navigate through a site? I've been shown to make a timeline layer for my pages: (keyframe1 being the intro, keyframe11 the static home page, kf 20 the about page...etc.)
whats the best way to assign commands that bring the user to the contents of each individual page...do these need to be separate files or just movies? damn...i suck right now. i guess i just need someone to break it down a bit more for me.
Help With Site Navigation
I pieced together some code to get this actionscripted tween button navigation. Using the tween class I was able to get the rollovers to function through actionscript and not a timeline tween. The goal of this excercise was to create a set of buttons that:
1. have a motion tween
2. When pressed stay highlighted
3. When one of the other buttons is pressed triggers the button last to tween back.
4. Play certain movie associated with the button in empty mc on the stage.
I was able to accomplish the first 3, but can't figure out how to load the 3 different movies when the navigation is pressed.
Here is the code so far ::
Quote:
stop();
import mx.transitions.*;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
// This is an array, a list of the buttons used.
var myButtons = [this.myButton_1, this.myButton_2, this.myButton_3, this.myButton_4];
// Loops on all buttons from the first to the last one
for (var i=0; i<myButtons.length; i++) {
// Sets its original X value. This will be used later for reference.
myButtons[i].originalX = myButtons[i]._x;
// When the mouse rolls over this menu option...
myButtons[i].onRollOver = function() {
var ball_tween:Object = new Tween(this.fade1_mc, "_x", Regular.easeInOut, -378, 0, .25, true);
};
// When the mouse exits the menu option.. go back up.
myButtons[i].onRollOut = function() {
var ball_tween:Object = new Tween(this.fade1_mc, "_x", Regular.easeInOut, 0,-378.0, .25, true);
};
// When the mouse clicks.. activate it!
myButtons[i].onRelease = function() {
this._parent.activateItem (this);
// *** Add some function here or somewhere else to handle real button actions!
trace ("Hey, button "+this+" was clicked.");
};
}
this.activateItem = function(item) {
// Function that activates a button.
// Checks if there's an activated item already; if so, deactivates it.
if (this.currentItem != false) this.deActivateItem();
// Activates it, finally
this.currentItem = item;
var ball_tween:Object = new Tween(this.currentItem.fade1_mc, "_x", Regular.easeInOut, 0, 0, .25, true);
this.currentItem.enabled = false; // makes it a disabled button, so it won't receive mouse events
};
this.deActivateItem = function() {
// Deactivates the current activated menu item.
this.currentItem.enabled = true; // back to a normal button/movieclip
var ball_tween:Object = new Tween(this.currentItem.fade1_mc, "_x", Regular.easeInOut, 0, -378, .25, true);
this.currentItem = undefined;
};
this.stop();

I have just started using flash so my question is basic, I think. But I keep trying and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have 5 flash pages that I want to be different pages of one website. I have a navigation bar (not buttons yet, just text and drawings) and I want to use it to navigate between my 5 pages. I tried turning them into buttons and adding actionscript but I don't really know what I'm doing and it never works. What is the best way to do this?
Site Navigation Using AS?
ok so this is alittle tricky to explain maybe but here goes...
i am trying to create avery simple site for a mate of mine. it has a nav bar across the top with 4 buttons. below that is the content screen...
on the screen i have a radial blurred background image. then when you click one of the buttons the blur moves to a differnt corner of the screen and changes colour (i did this using motion tweens andthe tint settings)...
each button should move the fade to a corner of the screen and change it`s colour...4 buttons, 4 fades
i have done something similar before using the timeline but i imagine there is a much more efficient way of doing it using AS??
in the attached file try clicking the buttons in order to see the effect...

Scripting Site Navigation
Hi,
This is a pretty general question, but here goes. I have a main navigation loaded on level 50. There are four buttons to choose from. When a button is selected, i need to play a short in between animation of the current visible section, then bring in the next section. The way i have it set up now is like this. On my buttons, i have:
on (release) {
_level50:nextsection = "section2";
if (_level0:loaded == "section1") {
_level0.gotoAndPlay("fadeout");
_level50.gotoAndPlay("transition");
}
else if (_level0:loaded== "section3") {
_level3.gotoAndPlay("fadeout");
}
etc..
On my last frame of "fadeout", i have:
if (_level50:request == "section2") {
if (_level2._currentframe) {
_level2.gotoAndPlay("play");
} else {
loadMovieNum ("section2.swf", 2);
}
}
else if (_level50:request == "section3") {
if (_level3._currentframe) {
_level3.gotoAndPlay("play");
} else {
loadMovieNum ("section3.swf", 3);
}
etc..
Pretty rough and rude coding, i know, so i'm wondering what a better way would be to handle this kind of site navitation. Do i need to set a variable which tells me what part of the site i'm in?
Thanks!

Help W/scrolling Navigation On This Site

Flash Site Navigation
Hi Guys,
I'm working on my first all flash website. Here's my question....
I am using individual scenes for each page. Each page starts and ends with opening and closing doors respectively. When a user clicks on a button I want the the doors to close on the current scene and then jump to the scene corresponding to that button.
So far, I can get only a couple of links up and working using a goto action x 2. However, furhter attempts using this approach seems to load randon scenes.
My first question is, am I using the right approach in terms of proper site plannning, i.e. using individual scenes as pages? If not, what's the ideal approach for an all flash site?
My second question is, if my approach is an acceptable one, how can I get my movie's links and page transitions to perform as mentioned above.
For a better idea of what i'm talking about go to http://www.mtlpits.com/index_2.htm
Many thanks in advance.

[F8] Navigation Relative To Site
I hope someone can help, I initially put this question on a DW forum but got no real help, just some geezer putting me off using flash in web sites - shouldn't get that here eh!
I often want to make a Flash file with some animation for using in a DW html site, and often wish to incorporate some buttons into the animation that take the site viewer to a different page of the site. It is relatively straight forward to use a goto-url, but using this method I can't really test the site on my local machine, as the links only ever seem to work if they are abosolute eg http://www.domain.co.uk/page rather than relative to the site itself when the swf is put into DW. At the moment I am building a site to replace a site I built for a client a few years ago, so I don't want to up load the new one until I have made sure it works. Is there any way of making site navigation in flash files that can be relative to the site as one does in dreamweaver?
The other trick I have always wanted to do is to make nav buttons in Flash that can be installed in DW. I have bought some over the years which always have an mxp extension. These are the ones where you use the insert flash button command where you fill in the link, text etc and DW makes the swf for the site. Is this something that can be done in Flash 8 pro? I did a Total Training DVD tutorial in flash and this wasn't covered.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Help With Flash Site Navigation
I am making a flash website for our company, and I walked into a brick wall today. I will try to explain, hope you understand:
I have 4 buttons on main stage, with movieclip effects that start and stop with rollover and rollout actionscript. (This works fine)
I also have an movieclip animation for an info box, that appear on the website on button release.
When I click one of the buttons (the buttons are About, Products, Contact and Portfolio) I want the info box to appear to the stage with the movieclip animation I already have made. But when I click one of the other buttons, I want the info box movieclip to change color and information, without the movieclip animation that makes the info ox appear on the screen. (I want the movieclip animation to play when I click one of the buttons the first time, and I want the movieclip animation to revert when I click the logo, and go back to the main state.)
Its a bit hard to understand, I hope you know what I want and can help me with the action script code I need for the buttons and movieclips.
Navigation Driven Site
Here is the situation. I purchased a navbar from ohmyflash.com. I personally don't like templates. However, I'm not creative when it comes to navigation. I get compliments on my sites, but I feel the cosmetics of my navigation could use an overhaul. So for this site I decided to purchase a nav bar and gear the site towards that. After chopping up the Actionscript to work with my creation I came up with demo. That's the temp name I use for this example. What I want to do is have the links work with a smooth transition. You will notice when you click one of the buttons what I am talking about. Also, I want to fix the problem with the buttons. if you hold the cursor over the button and allow the animation to play until it stops you will see that it doesn't return like it should. I also provided the original fla. that I got from ohmyflash.com. So you can see the difference. This may require reworking the entire Actionscript and I'm ok with that as long as it is a smooth transition when I click the button. The only layer that has something on it that I did was the background. The animated box is connected through empty movieClip. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Site Navigation, Using Slider Bar
Hello - ON my flash site the bottom navigation uses the slider bar. My dilema is that one of the menu items has 3 sub mens to choose from, I would like it when you roll over it, the slider recognizes it still, however the 3 sub menus rise up from under the menu. Then when you click on the submenus the content loads in the blank movie clip, in the content layer. PLease Advise!

The submenus will go under "schedules". Thanks!
BASIC SITE NAVIGATION
Hello
I am new to Flash and totally stuck. I have managed to scrape together a site at www.lostdubs.com. However I have two problems:
1. I can't get any preloaders to work.
2. I want all of the content to load at once to eliminate the "blips" as the content changes. Or I want each .swf to have its own preloader.
As you can imagine I am not too good with code. I am super frustrated. Any help will really be appreciated!I am in Sydney, if there is anyone here who wants to trade work for help I'm up for it.
Thanks!

A Problem With Navigation For My CS3 Site.
I hope that this hasn't been discussed in the past, but I was unable to find an answer to my problem using the search. I am currently using CS3 (first time flash user) to whip up a site.
My plan is to use a frame set with the flash in the top frame (it will be the navigation menu for the site naturally) and once links are clicked it will change the page bellow. Simple enough Im sure. Only when a link is clicked it will not open the page in the lower frame it simply opens it into a new window as if the _blank tag was being used. The name of the lower frame for simplicity sake is "mainFrame" and bellow is my AS3 code for the button in Flash.
Code:
var link1_req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("page2.html");
function link1(event:MouseEvent):void
{
navigateToURL(link1_req, "mainFrame");
}
link1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, link1);
From what I can see this is the place to get some answers (to a dumb question this time around Im sure). Thanks a lot for taking the time to check out my post.

Full Site Navigation
hello, i am very new to flash and especially flash mx. i am attempting to create a complete flash site but am encountering problems. i have followed the tutorial and everything worked wonderfully creating the site designed by kirupa. but, when i tried to create my own nothing seems to work. I believe my problem has something to do with the navigation menu. I cannot figure out how to import it into the library for my index animation and still be able to edit it and see the various layers. whenever i get it into the library it comes as a complete movie clip and there are no individual layers.. meaning.. i have to redesignate buttons and it still doesn't work... being new to flash i'm sure my problem is something quite simple that i just don't know... but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Site With 3d Cube Navigation
Hi,
About two years ago a flash site was built that caused alot of attention. I will describe it roughly.
It used a 3d cube/shape type animation as an intro and then it used the cube type shapes as a complex animated navigation system. It was very good. Do any of you remember the site?
If so could you forward me the link please. As I dropped it from my favourites list.
Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know where i can find a tutorial or fla with this similar functionality?
I would appreciate it.

Professional Site Navigation Question
Hi all, I have a good grasp in Flash but I am wondering how most of you go about creating the groundwork for navigation in Flash? I'm not talking little rinky dink movie based flash projects, but larger sites involving much more complex organization.
I basically have been told that scenes are on their way out, except for preloading sites......are most professional sites built using 1 scene with labeled keyframes and mc's? Or are a lot of the sites using stacked levels?
I know you may come back with the question, who is my audience and all that, but what I am looking for is more of an understanding of why you choose the path that you choose, and what its' based on? Some major help here or just examples of situations would be so helpful! Thanks in advance.

Multiple Timelines + Navigation For A Site
I'm using Flash4, building a site as i learn from scratch.
I've got the drawing basics down and have now moved on to the navigation part of my site. I'm not worried about what it looks like, just getting the mechanics right.
i've planned out the site on paper and i have lots of different menus needed to form the heirachy.
I'm planning on using one main movie which holds a background and the first main menu bar at the top of the 'tree'. There are two buttons on this menu.
hitting these two buttons will launch seperate movies on the left. these movies are made up of other buttons which launch the information pages - as seperate movies - to the right. All the movies slide into place using tweening.
So basically i have lots of movies, one for each menu and product/information page all being launched and controlled with actions in other movies
My questions are, am i doing the navigation in a sensible way? are there any other or better ways to build a navigation structure into a site?
I have made one button on the first movie load another movie using actionscript but the loaded movie doesn't show in the main timeline. some unwanted things happen when i test the movie as a whole, it works but some of the tweening is off.
Can I not see all the movies i have loaded, in the timeline window?
how do i work with it and organise it properly as there are going to be loads of seperate movies all over the place!
Your advice and experience on building the navigation would be cool!
Thanks a load!
Flash MX Site Navigation Questions
Question - working on trying to get this effect from this site http://www.2advanced.com/archive/v2/index.html
are the doors sliding and opening to a new scene?...not sure how to set up navigation on this, would you break it up into scenes, or load new movie clips...a little stumped...here's what i have so far http://www.edgeontheweb.com/tester.htm the "underground" button works, I send it to a new scene to play the dropping doors, and then from there I send it to a preloader scene and then from there to the actual scene, but there's got to be a better way?
any help much appreciated.

Cool Site Navigation..how Does It Work?
Hi fellow flashers:
I saw this awesome site with cool navigation and each time the page refreshes, the background image changes the same as in the flash file:
http://www.givetoodu.com/
Any ideas how this is achieved? Just need to be pointed in the right direction. I am assuming the flash file calls a javacscript in the HTML and it reloads the background accordingly but just wanted to share info.

Simple Site With Flash Navigation
Hello,
I am developing a site that uses flash for navigation. I have the navigation and the content in a frameset. The top frame is the navigation and the bottom is the content. The navigation is placed in a table so that it is always centered. How can I stop the top frame from being scrolled when the window is made smaller? I want no scrolls for the top frame and only verticle scroll for the bottom frame. I chose to use two frames so that when the menu is used it just switches the content in the content frame, while the menu stays as is. Am I doing this the best way possible? I could see doing the same thing with layers instead. Is it possible to place an html page inside a layer and then swap that page with another page in actionscript?
Thanks,

Flash Navigation In Html Site
Hi there
I'm looking for pointers here...
I've built an html site and have created a flash navigation for it - the navigation has one main level of navigation and also one sublevel of navigation....like so
[welcome]
[about] - subnav [a1] [a2]
[services] - subnav [s1] [s2] [s3] [s4]
[faq] - subnav [f1] [f2]
[contact]
the sub navs have titles but i can't be arsed typing them.
what i want to know is...
say I'm in the welcome.html page, the welcome button in on [lets say its red] and i click on the about button - i am taken to the about.html page but as the flash navigation is embedded in each html page how do i tell it to have the about button on [red] when in the about.html page instead of reverting back to the start position.
I have tried exporting 5 different version of the flash - so that for the about.html page i have script on the first frame that tells the movie to
gotoAndPlay("about");
and so on for each page...but then i'll have to do this for each sub page aswell and it seems really messy way of doing it. is there a way of doing this kind of thing in the html code so that i can just export the navigation.swf once and then in the html on each page tell the flash which frame to go to?
is there an easier way?
am i barking up the wrong tree?
how would u guys script the flash to work on an html site?
any help much appreciated - the simpler the better as I'm no scripting genius.
cheers

Complicated Navigation System For W-site
Hi,
My following question is a little overwhelming I think, and perhaps too much too ask for, but giving the fact that is the holidays...
I am creating this site which will have a grid whose movement is controlled by the position of the mouse. There will be a mask for the grid, so that one actually on sees a section of the grid at certain times. Within this grid there will be buttons that will call up (with a certain transition) certain MC that act as buttons and run as a slide show with nested buttons within, this MC will also have a close button that will actually close the window with a traansitional animation. (not just making the window dissapear).
I guess my cry for help is for somebody to be able to let me know what kind of actionscript, technique approach, or structure in the timeline and symbol library I should use.
I'm attaching a copy of my flash file to better explain what I'm trying to do, and perhaphs have one initial example in it that I could follow, modify and learn from.
I'd really appreciate any comments, help, or modifications of the file!
Thanks in advance

Flash Navigation For HTML Site
Hello,
Right now I have a website with Flash navigation in one frame... and the html content in the other. The flash navigation stays and only the html content changes when navigating the website. If I wanted the entire page to change, so I did not have to use frames, how could I tell the navigation what frame label to jump to when the page reloads?
Thanks,
mperla
