Flash :: Help With Flickering A Movie

Flash Movie Flickering / Blinking
Hi Guys

I hope someone can assist me on this please.

I have created a flash movie on my site, which acts as the portal page to other company external sites. When users hit the page, the flash movie works fine, however, when a company employee hits the site with his Alienware laptop, the flash movie blinks (about 2 flickers per second). I cannot find any problems with the flash code and can only imagine that the screen card in his Alienware laptop is causing the problem.

He is running Vista, IE 7.0.6 and flash version 9.0.115.0.

I am not able to idenitify the problem at all, so hope someone can take a look at it and let me know if they experience the same flickering issue, and whether there are any obvious problems with the way it is embedded in the page.

The site is www.legatum.com (we also have the same problem on www.legatum.org). But other flash movies seem to be ok.

AS 3.0 Flickering Movie Clip Buttons?

At the bottom I have those buttons. Notice how when you rollover them they are jumpy. I created them just like always, a hit area on the top layer that is a rectangle with an alpha fill.

They have only one listener and the button is a movie clip with 10 frames where one section is "over" and it goes here on the gotoAndPlay("over");

Do I need to use the updateAfterEvent somehow or a something else?

Flickering Movie Like Looping Animation But No Loop

Movie Clip Flickering On Button Press......
aight so here's the deal... on my main time line i got a movie clip with the instance name of "textbox" (disregard quotes of course). I put a stop action on the first frame of the movie clip and the last frame so it doesn't show up during the normal playing of the main timeline.

on a button i have the following action:

on (release) {
_root.textbox.play();
}

aight.... so the first time i press the button the the movie clip plays fine.... but if i press the same button again, the movie clip will just flicker.. like it resets itself, so then the next time i press the same button, the movie clip plays fine again.... and so on and so forth.

Can anyone tell me why it does that little flicker???

Flickering
I have had two people on two different computers tell me that the intro to my newly created website was flickering very badly. I noticed that it was doing it on my computer, but I thought it might just be MY computer. Can someone please check out the intro and tell me if it is flickering and if so how to i make it stop. I did increase the frame rate but it flickered just as bad.

Please Help With Flickering
Hi i am building a flash site and i am having some troubles with a movie flickering between 2 frames - i have added stop scripts into the frames, the movie fades in and out and its when it fades that the flickering happens??

Flickering Png Bug
Hi all,

been a while but I'm back hah-hah. Hope you've all been having a good time. Anyhow the reason I'm back -

I've come across an irritating bug that seems to be being caused by saving a Flash 8 FLA in CS3.

The symptoms are - any animations containing transparent pngs flicker really badly. On closer inspection I've found that whats happening is the tweens aren't being drawn so all you see is the key frames.

(Actually It may even be affecting clips that only contain vectors - I haven't investigated)

I can force the flickering to stop by clicking each timeline in each affected movieclip and then exporting the movie. However as soon as I save out of CS3 the flickering comes back the next time I export.

Unfortunately I'm working on a machine that only has CS3, the other developer here only has F8, so I end up converting the .fla every time I save.

Anyone seen this before? Any thoughts on how to fix it permanently - clicking 150 timelines after each save is getting really boring.

Flickering
Hi,

I'm animating simple oval shapes moving across the screen. Shapes are solid color and created in Flash. When I play the movie (29 fps, 1024x768) the shapes flicker as they move. The shapes have a tween from 0% alpha to 40% alpha which happens while thay are moving.

Any idea how to remove flicker?

FLV Flickering
Hi!

I've made a video in Maya 2008 exported it to AVI and then recompressed it to FLV using the Flash CS3 Video Encoder...

The problem is that the video is not smooth as it should... It flickers A LOT!! I don't know what else to do... I've tried everything I thought of...

How To Prevent Flickering?
Hello to all Flash gurus out there. Please HELPPP!! well, I would like to animate a line from one point to another. In other words, the point was set to 0 for both it's height and width. I've placed the follwing codes in frame 2 in the time line and frame 3 is to loop back to frame 2. Frame 1 is for initialization of variables.

The code works, however the line (v_line2) keeps flickering. Is there anything wrong with the codes?? How can i reduce/prevent the flickering??? Thanx a MILLION!!

Unwanted Flickering
Howdy!

I got a problem. I am working on a flash movie, sort of a sci-fi series. In the first scenes I include some spaceships flying above a futuristic city. The problem is that when the ships fly by, the background behind them flickers slightly. Not much, but annoying anyway.

The background is an imported jpg picture and everything else is symbols drawn in flash.

What can I do to prevent this flickering effect?

My Project Keeps Flickering
My project keeps flickering! I am working on a flash project and it is a image fade out project. But when viewed, the client complains it flickers. The client claims its not the monitor, but that project. What can I do to fix this???

Buttons Flickering
I have created a cd navigation interface with a lot of buttons.... When you roll over the buttons quickly they flicker a little bit (it is like something is in the background) and I remeber this issue from prior versions of flash but can not figure out how to resolve it.

Flickering Problems - Please Help
Hi Flash Community,

I'm programming in AS 2 a very simple ball class that can connect to other balls.

Please look at the example I'm providing. When I move the green ball, the lines flicker. When I move the blue balls, the lines don't flicker, why is that?

My Button Keeps Flickering And I Don't Know Why.
I created a drop down menu from a tutorial using Actionscript but as soon as I added more "options" to the menu (more than the tutorial used), the button started flickering when I tested the movie. What am I doing wrong?

This is the actionscript coding I attached to the movie that contains the drop down menu buttons:

Flickering LoadMovies...
Hi,

I've created a movie that loads various swf's into a target movie clip (using loadMovie), depending on which button is pressed by the user.

Since there are 30 different buttons, and the swf's that they load vary in size, I've put a preloader on each swf to be loaded - nothing complex, just a loader in frame 1 and the movie content in frame 2.

This all works fine to a degree. What I'm finding though, is that if I click a button to load in one swf, and the click a different button to load another .swf quickly BEFORE the first has finished loading, all hell breaks loose!

Every swf I try to load after that seems to flicker wildly between it's first and second frames, and even other completely unrelated animations appear to go haywire. The only thing to do then is refresh the browser, which obviously isn't acceptable..

Any ideas why this is happening, and any solutions?

Flickering Rollovers
I'm doing a flash project where when you scroll your mouse over a certain area, a mouseover pops up. I've got ten of these. Two work beautifully, but the rest don't. They rollover correctly, but when you mouse over the actual box that pops up, they begin to flicker. I can't find any differences in the code and makeup of the ones that work and the ones that don't work. Button areas don't overlap.

Flickering Video
hi,
with this example (just a techn. one) the video always starts to ‘flicker’ as soon as you go with the mouse over the display and controls. Probably there is an interference again with the rollover actions of the button surrounding it (realized the swap with a change in color property, hoping that it would solve this problem, but unfortunately the ‘flickering’ remains)
Maybe somebody knows how this idea can be accomplished without any interference?

Flickering Background
Hi, i'm new here, been using flash for the last few months, for uni work primarily, so while i'm not a complete beginner, i don't know all that much...

Anyway, i am making an application in flash 8, and i am having problems with the background. Its in a swf format, added to the library, and then put as the background for the entire application, pretty simple stuff. Its not anything complicated, just a simple repeting background, with two copies of the image next to each other, then scrolled through, but whenever i play it, it makes the screen flicker terribly, lines going across the middle where it doesn't seem to be playing right. I originally thought it might be a monitor or graphics card problem, but on trying it on other machines, i have had the same problem, so the only thing i can come up with is that its a problem in flash, so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas to whats causing it, or a possible solution.

Flickering And LoadMovie
Hi,

I'm facing a problem with loadMovie. I need to load some swf's in a dummy mc, placed at the home swf (_root.dummy.loadMovie and NOT _root.loadMovie), but when at the end frame of "one.swf" i need to go to the first of "two.swf", the home's back appears instantly (because of _root.dummy.loadMovie("two.swf") i suppose), making an annoying flickering. Is there a possible way to fix this without changing the whole structure?

Flickering Animations
Hi,
I'm creating a game with Flash CS3 Professional which contains several characters with animated motions. When I integrated the animated MovieClips in my main FLA-file everything worked fine. But at a certain point of development after adding several items to the FLAs library the animated charaters began to flicker suddenly.
After I had recognized that the filesize of the FLA was extremly large I saved it under a different filename and the filesize decreased. After doing that the animations worked as they should without flickering.
But after adding some more items to the FLAs library I had the same problem again, this time the trick dIdn't work.
The weird thing is that the same SWF played on another computer worked fine. But while developping on the other machine the same bug occurred.
I can't figure out what the cause for this bug is.

How To Fix Flickering In Actionscript?
I have a problem making my FLASH working seamlessly. When you put the mouse over the buttons (movie clips) then they are flickering. Do you know how to fix that? I want everything to work smooth and slow, without flickering and flashing in the eyes. I used only this script:

[help] Keeps Flickering Between Scenes
This will probably sound like a ridiculous question, but for some reason it has left me puzzled.

I am busy with a game that I am creating and when the game is over you get sent to the "gameover" screen and then from that screen there is a button that is supposed to send you back to the main menu...but when i click on the button it won't take me to the menu. Instead it just flickers between the current scene and the main menu scene.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this might be happening? Its really puzzling me and I am so desperate for Help, I would really appreciate it.

I actually feel stupid even asking this question. It's not that I haven't put a stop() somewhere...i just don't understand why this could be happening.

Movieclip Flickering
I've a trivial (not for me) question!
I try to move a movieclip via actionscript in the following way:

here is the "stupid" code in the main frame

_root.onEnterFrame=function()
{
ball._x-=5;
if (ball._x<0) ball._x=500;
}

where "ball" is the instance name of the movieclip

The problem is that the ball flickers too much during the animation, even if the frame rate is the highest and even if the movieclip is the simplest one (in this case a small ball)!

How can I reduce this horrible effect?

I Cant Figure Out Why This Is Flickering?
i think the problem is in the html code used to embed this but it keeps flickering...

i put nothing in the swf to make it to that theres no MC that even looks like a big black box. theres only 2 mc's one for text and one for embeding fonts. if you just look at the swf u will most likely get an error because it relies on vars passed to it via FlashVars but i put them in manually and tested on my computer and no flickering, so i think the problem lies in the html used to embed it but im not a strong html guy so i dont know what would do it.

Mouse Flickering
Hello,

I'm building this photogallery.

All works fine but seems like something keeps using processorspeed (31%) when nothing is really happening.

I'm using flash's built-in tween classes and have put an delete this.onEnterFrame after every action taken.
But this is where I'm unsure of. Am I using it right? For instance on my preloader I got this code.

total = _root.beeld.getBytesTotal();
loaded = _root.beeld.getBytesLoaded();
this._xscale = (loaded/total)*100;
this._alpha=this._xscale
_root.percent = Math.round((loaded/total)*100)+"%";
delete this.onEnterFrame
}

Could it also be that the XML object causes the flickering?
Or in general, where could this flickering come from.
