First One To Solve Is A FLASH MASTER
I am trying to create a text box that scrolls daily updated news headlines with a 2-3 line description. The headlines will come from an external text file formatted as html with links.

I need the text box to pause for a few seconds, then slowly scroll to the next header (vertically). If necessary I can make sure each subject is always a certain # of lines so that the mc can be set to pause, then scroll that # of lines and pause again. It will also need to loop.

well i have this problem
i am triing to pass a var from html ( javascript ) to flash and work in some way flash mx

Form.SetVariable("num", "3" );

the variable is loaded by flash cuz i see it in a dinamic text field thats load "num" as a variable so i a see 3.

but

first script in flash.

if i load the variable res in a text field the result is 0 ( the variable "num" dont work)
and if i create a text field that load the variable num i get a 3 ( the variable is loading)

[Flash CS3 AS2] - On Going Error I Cant Seem To Solve
Hello, I am not new to Flash but my problem is something i cant figure out. I keep getting the error message when a script is causing plash player to run slow.... do you wish to abort.

I have checked all of my code and understand that it could be a problem with a loop some place. I took off all unnecessary loops but one which I need:

internet explorer shows their gallery. So, myPhoto.load(gallery.php); ,gallery.php should not be used because this will be gallery.php?id=123, gallery.php?id=124......

- say we have a 3 frame swf, located at index1.html
- then i have a button(gif/jpeg htmlpage not flash), located at index2.html

- what i wanna do is when i click the button on index2.html, it will open the index1.html then start play the swf at frame 2 NOT 1(beginning)

Solve This One - Flash Usage Stats
I'm trying to find a solution to a problem...

I am building a flash CD that will be seen in various countries. I have been asked to find a way to track usage statistics. I am trying to figure out a way to either load a 1kb remote image and track requests or load another file somehow. It would be really cool if I could come up with a php page to track usage in more detail.

Does anyone know a way to do this using existing Flash actionscript and not paying for a service?

Can Flash Solve My Problem? Is It Really The Answer?
Our organization has just started putting out an internal newsletter type of publication. The newsletter was created in Publisher and has exceeded 3MB after being converted and reduced under Acrobat (for web access). I've warned them numerous times about the problems of large images, grouping, and other issues related to Publisher and the web but either it's too difficult for them to manage, or they just don't want to be limited.

I've been asked to find a solution without limiting their design choices.

I've seen some retail stores showing their sales fliers on their website(s) with the use of Flash, allowing someone to see an overview, the zoom in (and change focus on click+drag), and turn to the next page. With the preloader and possibility to load successive pages in the background, I'm thinking this might be a good possible solution.

The only problem is that I believe they also want to allow users to print the document from home. We have a lot of users still using dialup (which is why I dislike the 3MB filesize so much, that's about a 12-20 min download).

I'm looking to hear of two things:
1.) Would you use Flash to solve this problem, or do you have any other ideas?

2.) If you would use Flash, are there any libraries/functions already created for this task? I'd have no idea where to start on my own, my experience with Flash and ActionScript, although enjoyable, was short lived and ages ago...and rudimentary.

How Do I Solve This Dhtml-problem In Flash?
Hello ultrashockers.

I have a project I'm currently working on, to dispaly the pictures at my project I'd like them to open up in a new html window ( I found a great script for it at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...htmlwindow.htm , credits to Dynamicdrive ) and thus avoiding large flash files due to jpgs in the movie.

However when I try this script using the

on (release) {
getURL("http://www.notavailable.com/w00t.htm");
}

it simply wont open as I want it. Instead it opens two windows, one blank and then this dhtml script.

Does anyone know how to use dhtml scripts in flash? Should I use the getURL-command? I appreciate all answer.

Preloader In Flash Mx2004 Solve This Prob?

this is eswar . i have loaded a preloader in my movie but i have a problem.i am unable to get the original data when the preloader is loaded.

what exactly is i have used an xml file to load data dynamically in my movie.then i wanna add the preloader.when i add this in scene1 and run my movie the original DATA scene2 is not loaded. what is the problem how should i solve this ???

How To Solve The Conflict Of Hotkeys In Flash And Browser?
hi all,
I have a troublesome issue to solve --- it is known that browser(like IE, FF) is the display container of flash. Since browser itself has defined many hotkeys, while flash developer also provided good usability with keyboard input, the issue is : when they two conflict, the flash hotkeys usually not work.

How to solve this problem since I don't tend to change another hotkey?
Is there any way to disable browser hotkeys when mouse is enter the flash?

Weird Problem, Only Flash Experts And Macromedia Can Solve It
Hi everyone,

Now this is something new one, which is very weird thing.

I'm using "swapDepths" function, which is unnecessarily duplicating my movie clip.

I’m setting levels of MCs "A1" and "A2", then toggle between frame 1 and frame 5, (or any frame, but coming, back again).
Then what happens is that, both movies gets duplicated, which should not happen.
And it happen only on first toggle, not thereafter. Here number of movie clips and Number of frames doesn't matter, only problem is "swapDepths" function, if we remove it, then duplication won't occure, but "swapDepths" is my main functionality, which I can't remove. Can anyone pleasssssss expain this thing? Is this Flash 5 bug? I’m in great trouble, if it won’t work.

Pretty straight forward so far.

I have several text areas that contain HTML in the flash.swf.

Some of these text areas contain <a href> links which I want to link to a function in my flash.swf rather than the behavior associated with a conventional getURL("http://www.A_Link.com").

Is there a way, perhaps with Javascript or PHP to invoke a function via an <a href> link in the already loaded flash.swf rather than re-loading the html and flash.swf file?

Bottom line, I am trying to invoke a function in the flash file via a <a href> link in the html text area without re-loading the flash file.

Is it possible?

I have a problem with the following site http://www.casalia.co.uk

When you click the leftmost button it causes a popup window to appear containing a calendar object (a separate movie). This calendar displays booking information loaded from an access database.

The problem is that when you click buttons on the calendar movie it seems to have strange and random effects on the movie in the main page (attributes of movie clips change etc). I could understand that this may be a scope problem if I had embedded the calendar movie in the main movie, but they are completely seperate movies in completely seperate html pages, so I really don't understand what mechanism they could be interacting via. To create the pop up window I used the centrePopUp flash extension smart clip, could it be anything to do with that??

When I run the site through personal web server I don't get this problem at all, it's only when I upload it to the web.

If anyone has any ideas or feedback on the site I'd be really grateful because I'm stumped.

The problem is that my second .swf is quite huge (80 ko) and so long to load and it makes a break bettween the intro and the website, what i don't want.
Here is my question : Is it possible to :

- Preload the second .swf at the beginning of the intro within the intro preloader.

OR

- Make a preloader in the intro that detects when the secon .swf is loaded

I finally figured out how to make a preloader, but since my sound is embedded in the file the only way that i know of to take it from the library to the stage is to make it export in first frame, when i do this it loads before the preloader does, which takes forever, please tell me a different way to embed my music file.

HELP Been Trying To Solve For A While
I have been trying to figure out the best way to transition between MCs contained on the main timeline for quite sometime. I would like to do it correctly with actionsscript but I am stumped. Let me set it up.

I would like to click a button and a transition would occur to show the next mc.

Example 1:
If mc1 is showing and you click on mc2, mc1 would do something first and then show mc2.

Example 1:
If mc1 is showing and you click on mc2, another movie would play(like a flash) and then mc2 would show.

Any takers? More information if needed.

Here is the fla of a scrolling movie click set by code in the movie clip called controller.

The scrolling is really simple once if you look at the fla or the code below, but sadly it only works if the scrollable movie clip (pages) is on the root of the movie. I want to be able to place the movie clip in another movie click called (works) but everytime I do it, the it doesnt work. I will post the code below.. and also all the changes I have made to the code.

I tried solving that XML problem but I simply can't make it work. I read tons of articles and everything, my code seems quite ok but I simply can't understand why it won't work... It should insert and image ( i think ) and it should recognize the HTML tags but it's not doing any of it. Whenever I insert a HTML tag or something I get a result of "null"... 1. I cant play the movie clip triggered by a button outside a movie clip.

Here it goes, folks ... let's see if anyone can solve this question:

I'm looking to design a Vertical news ticker. But not some ordinary text scroller because they are everywhere.

I want to be able to create a Flash driven scoller (Vertical) where both text and other objects (short movie clips, pictures, etc) can be both loaded from externally set files. Certain text lines should be able to be hyper-linked to various URL's. Pictures could be clickable.

In the end, I want to be able to just make adjustments to the data files on a weekly basis and not have to worry about the flash code on other people's websites.

I've tried and tried and tried and keep failing. I'm willing to PAY someone to help me get this going.

That's right! I said PAY!

There Must Be At Least ONE Person Out There Who Can Solve This...
Ok guys

Here's my problem. I want to make a preloader for loading an external .swf. Well, it should be pretty simple but it ain't. I tried asking here before, without any results. I just spent two hours looking through old post about this same subject and funny enough, a LOT of people have been asking the same question without getting the solution. What people reply is, exactely the answers I got, is just the code for a "normal" preloader, the preloader you use when you want to preload your main movie.
I tried looking through the tutorials but surprise, there was only tutorials for normal preloaders. And now I'm getting curious; is it possible to make a preloader for an external .swf??? and if so, how to do it!

Anyone please help me with this, and I think a lot of other people would appreciate getting a final answer.

Are You Expierienced Enough To Solve This Bug?
I have moovie [900kb], in first scenes first frame I have preloader ofcouse which contains of small animation [1.8kb] and dinamic text field for download progress.
The problem is that preloader it self appears only when ~ 20% has been downloaded, becouse flash thinks that theres 192 kb in this first frame.
Theres no way that loading script and this small animation could take that amount, I even tried to delete this animation but no chance for success.

So when somebody with 56kb modem comes to my home page everythig he see for first 30 seconds is white popup window.

I have a movieClip with dynamic Text in it. when I load this movieClip onto the Stage... using LoadMovieClip(....),
and then when I do a trace to get the text of the dynamic Text,
Trace(_root.dynamicText_mc.dtext_Var);
it returns unknown or undefined...
If I do the same trace in Frame 3 on the stage... it returns the correct value of the dynamic Text...
Now, how can I get the value of the dynamic text in the same frame, where I am Loading the dynamicText_mc movieClip.

How Can I Solve This Problem?
Hello,

In my flash application, I need to do the followings.

If I press button, then based on the condition, I want to show some radio buttons and dynamic text fields.
I didn't create radio button on the frame, though I created movie clip for radio button in the library.

The radio button and dynaminc text fields need to be shown could be 7 or 10 or 15, etc.. based on the condition.

What this means that I do not know how many radio button and dynamic text fields need to be shown before I press button.

Could you let me know what is the best way to solve this problem?

I would like to insert a flash swf in an html document that has a transparent background. I would like to have the ability to see the background text of the HTML document while the swf floats over it. Similar to those pop-up advertisings that animate. HOW DO YOU DO THAT. I need a site made fully on flash. Site content: text & images, site structure - product catalog. The site content should be changed on-the-fly and often.
Moreover, the site must support: filling and sending forms, inputing data from forms into DB, renewable product catalog, shoping card.

hi fk guys,

i just got my first flashsite up and running just this week. I've tried viewing it in differnt computers,(specially those old ones) just to be sure that it works fine and if not i can make some adjustment on my files.I already showed it to my client and they have experienced some problems viewing it.But let me tell you some notes about how i did site first;

• The site is composed of modules, meaning ive managed to break each topic/link in a separate movie. one movie for my homepage, corp profile, services, human resource, principals, proactive moves & news.

• each movie loads most of its images and/or text, using the loadMovie and loadVariables codes, including the background images.

• All images are .jpegs files with not more than 30k each. All data files are .txt files

Now here is the problem;

• the (loaded )pictures wont load.
i supposed its all those loaded images they're talking about, and in some computer,picture wont just load at all. They are using Windows 2000, Internet Explorer 6, and their comps are Pentium 4, 10 Gb HDrive,with 128 RAM. But (according to them)it works fine(and loads fast) in Windows 98! Apparently they still have an old machine there. I also managed to view it in a Celeron 400,4Gb Hdsk,64 RAM, using IE 5 on a Win 98 platform and it works fine. Now how do i fix this?

Another thing guys, is it possible to create a link in my data file(.txt file) that will load a .swf file in the current movie? (If you could check the site, pls do so, coz i might not explain it well, hehe),The client wants me to put a link on the "Service" page, specifically on the titles of the loaded text, which when clicked, will jump to the "Human" page, straight to its (subtopic)"department".??? Now,How do you that??

How To Solve This Prob?
I have a minor problem here and wondering if anyone can help mi out of it.
In Flash, is there anywhere i can specify a timer or add a timer to a specified action to play for a few seconds before jumping to another scene?

I would like to play this first before going to another scene.

Simple But I Cannot Solve
i have a javascript which calls a flash movie successfully. all i want to do is to have that same .swf file repeat after 30 seconds. i have tried setInterval (although i may be using the wrong syntax), tried macromedia fx (cannot figure how to insert a loop or goto command) and tried commands for the javascript.

my website is AccessCIO.

the top portion of text and log is what i would like to repeat.

what is the easiest way to accomplish a timed repeat of an existing flash movie?

any help would be appreciated.

When I play this movie, the 15 tiles don't center on the page.

Heres a real toughy.
I made a Flash "image upload" button with an .html pop up and .php page to give status and a IMG tag of the uploaded image. They work fine, but all I need is the images to come up IN FLASH once they are uploaded throught the HTML form, and after the PHP page that shows the image.

The way I want to do it is with a "load variables" button, that will add the PHP variables and plug them into a "loadmovienum" URL destination. And then the "load movienum" will put the .jpg (recently uploaded into the "uploads" folder) into a targeted movieclip target.

Hard to describe. So I've put the html and php scripts below:

PLease Help Me Solve This Problem
I create a website using flash for my final .....theres only one problem..... in main movie (level 0) I create a movie clip to control the sound. The movie clip have two frame label on and off.If on it go to the on frame label and off go to oof frame label.

My movie contain 5 button home, about, product, order, contact ..
OK if I want to navigate from home then I go to contact everything was fine and the coding is like this:

In the contact page I turn off the sound and go to page order. As mention before that the sound was off and now when it go to order it will on the sound even the sound button show it is off. I have no idea how the sound is on automatically even the indicator show it off. I have checked other page and no errors I mean that no coding or sound file to play the sound.It was hard to explain.........

I included my .swf and hope someone can solve this.The fla is too big.
