Flash + IRC - Looking For Likeminded Designers/developers
Hey guys.

I've been doing flash multiuser stuff for a few years now, several different projects. Flashnexus was my first server app.

I've moved onto using an IRC server for my flash multiuser stuff, and am looking for like-minded designers + developers who have an interest in this area to do some joint collaborations with.

I've a dedicated server, running the irc server + webspace, so I can setup experimentation areas.

As you may or may not know, IRC has been around for over 10 years, and is incredibly tried and tested form of server. For example efnet regularly has 50,000 concurrent users. There are also 'services', which give IRC database capabilites.

It's also completely open source.

If anyone would like to know more, or is interested let me know!

Hello,

Not sure if this is the best place for this post.

I am fairly new to Web Design and i am currently making a site from a template (purchased).

I can pretty much modify everything that was given -text, pictures, etc...- but i am having an issue with adding to the story line.

I am also not sure of moving given buttons to another page or part of the story line to make use of it since its not needed on the current page its on (on the template).

Also i am not sure if its possible to have a few of the links/ buttons open into another page (out side of the main scene or story) for use of making picture galleries in other pages. Flash and or HTML.

Rewarding Flash Designers
My project is a brain interface. I have all the files needed uploaded into a .fla, which I have attached to this post.

I will be rewarding the first person to make and reattach the project.

I have ALL animations and images done in gif format. What I need you to do is:
-Use the distribute to layers tool to slice the brainoff.jpg into the sections for each part of the brain (sectionguide.jpg will show you all the different sections light up. There are two SEPERATE yellow sections.)
ex: I have attached an image with all sections of the brain light up. Lets take "the band" part for example. You would slice the red part exactly as it is shown with its red glow.

-Make each section of the brain hover sensitive and to link to its animation

-On hover of all sections make the .wav file play

The finished product should be a brain that has each section hover sensitive. NOT BIG BLOCKS BUT THE SECTIONS CARVED OUT AS POLYGONS, to give the user the feel of hovering and glowing over that specific part of the brain.

Question For Flash Designers
At what point in the design process of your flash movie do you decide that you will have to use other graphics software to get the effect you need that flash cant do? Obviously you have to be really knowledgeable in flash to know it's limits. Just need this for my edification.

Free Toys For Flash Designers
Did you know that MX can expand the stage view to 2000%? It's great for getting those shadow lines to line up just so. But what do you do when you test movie, or want to take a close look at your work when it's on the server? Or [gasp], other peoples work? You go to Iconico of course, and download their free Colorpic exe and use it. It has a window that you can set magnification to 5000%. They also have a set of screen calipers that work very well. Both have been tested by me in MX, and there is no conflict at all.

If you've done any other programing you know that an API (Application Programming Interface) is a set of functions that allows you to do advanced things that are common tasks. Some of the funcitons in this flashAPI include timers, elastic movement, several types of easing, rotation, skewing, basic 3D movement, etc. Things that can be very usefull.

If you do decide to use these, please give credit to the people who wrote the code by putting their url somewhere in your code or on your website.

Im looking for someone who knows what they are doing in flash, and who will either be able to answer questions from time to time, and also, at times when im really stuck actually fix the problem in the source file. Alot of the problems will be quite basic but something i have just overseen. To apply for this i will need to see some example of previous work. Some of the sites i am working on are for famous people and will be receiving ALOT of traffic so the job needs to be done well, and depending on input levels may offer the chance to have your name/company listed on the site.
I also need graphic designers to help make 'funky' graphics to tie in with the sites. I can do most things, but its just making something that looks great and will tie in really well with everything else... someone who uses Adobe PhotoShop would be good

i was wondering if there is some kind of special flash player for flash developers, where u can set, which flash version the player emulates ?

cuz often customers want to have their sites work with e.g. only flash 4... so it would be nice to set flash player to act as a flash4 player... i hope u get, what i mean

so my question is: is there something like that ? or what else could i do to simulate a flash4 player ?

I have an issue with variables not being available at level 0 in my swf which is a 3d bar chart. When I pull in the values via php, they can be viewed via dynamic text boxes, but they can't be pushed up to the smart clip as a new array. If I declare the values in frame2 of the movie everything works fine, but I can't access the data via the query string. Very confusing issue. The values currently displayed in the chart are set in frame 2, but I've included a text file that I'm using to supply test values to the movie.

Question For Flash Developers
Please excuse me if this isn't the correct section for this post. It was a toss up between here and the Coffee Lounge, I chose here.

Here is my question. How many Flash Developers use InDesign?

I'm curious since I am rather annoyed with the school I'm attending currently. I was expecting to learn more in-depth programming, i.e. integrating 3D into Flash, creating SSL shopping carts, ect.. Granted I know some of these services already exist, but I'm the type that wants to know all the programming behind things that make them work. Thus far, the majority of classes focus heavily on print layout and typography. Only occasionally do we touch on web-based media.

So there was the basis for my question. If developers use InDesign fairly often, then I'll struggle through learning that god-awful program. But for right now, I don't see the point from a developers' perspective.

Can Flash CS3 Developers Use Blazed DS?
I wish I knew more about flex but I dont, and I realy don't have the time to learn it right yet. I would like to try Blaze DS but I don't know if it's computable with flash CS3. I have used AMFPHP for some time and it looks as if AMFPHP is dead so it's time to move on.

From what I have read Blaze DS uses AMF3 thats all I can get since the documentation is not helpful for some one new to Java or Flex.

Has any one here made a remote call with flash CS3 to Blaze DS?

Developers From The Flash Demo
I attended a Flash Seminar at the DGA (Los Angeles) building last month. Sadly, I can't find the notes that I have on the people that showcased their sites. We are looking to contact the developers of three particular flash sites, namely:

1) The site that opens with a shot of earth, a loud explosion efffect, and some cool date navigational stuff related to the flash development timeline.

2) A red bull site where you have a real-time map of the skier, plus you have an option of switching camera views.

3) A site that was supposed to be on online version of a board game, where you try to guess a word described by people uploading their video clues.

It would be of great help if anyone can provide the URL for these sites - or the brains behind them. Thank you.
