Change Movie Dimensions?
This is kind of a strange question I guess. I know that you can change the dimensions of your swf file in your html file but that just stretches it out. And I know you can change your canvas dimensions in flash but is there a way, in flash to not only change the dimensions of the canvas but scale everything else appropriately. My movie is too small but I don't want to bother resizing every single clip individually.

How Do I Change The Dimensions Of A Flash File?
I'm new to Flash and have a question...

I'm using a company's flash file and want to embed it in my html page, but as it is right now, it's too big. How do I change the dimensions of the flash file so it fits but at the same time constrain the proportions like you would when you resize an image in Photoshop?

I'm using DW8 and Flash 8.

Thanks.

Opening Flash Movie In Html Window Exact Dimensions Of Movie?
Is there an extension or particular method to get this to happen perfectly.

I have been opening browser windows and setting the dimensions manually in behaviours to the same as the movie dimensions, but its never right. Its often bigger.

there must be a way to do this so that its the same as the flash movie size pretty much cross-browser - its ok...i hold no hope for Netscape

Thanks in advance,

Cesca

PS) Also, what happpens or whats the disadvantage of having a link open up the .swf (as opposed to it embedded in an html file)......sorry if the answer is clear and obvious...its just that on my local network it works so nicely

Change Dimensions In FlashPaper 2 Answer
Thought I'd share:

If you want to change the dimensions from the default 8.5 x 11 size you should open Contribute (part of Studio 8) and select to insert a FlashPaper document. You can then specify the dimensions of your document. For some odd reason you can not do so within the FlashPaper program in a standalone state. Summing up - use Contribute with FlashPaper to make sure your dimensions/margins are set appropriately.

Change The Dimensions Of A Text Block
ok, so all I want to do is.. change the dimensions of a text block. In the manual all it says is "use the resize handles". While this is ok it is painfull to make an exact size. Say I want to make a text block 300px wide.. all I can seem to do is make a text box and adjust the width manually untill I'm close. If I set a width in the properties panel the text gets streached. If I then look at the transform panel the width might be 120%?? is there a way to easily set the size without actionscript?

Flash Movie Dimensions
Hello,

Recently I was showing a friend a small animation I had created using ActionScript, while we were looking at it we noticed that the animation started to run not too smoothly. When we checked the CPU usage from the Windows Task Manager we noticed that it was almost at 100%. I had various clips using this code:

onClipEvent(load){
xspeed = 3
}

onClipEvent(enterFrame){
_x += xspeed
}

I can understand having various clips being animated at once can take a toll on the CPU usage, but he mentioned that the aspect ratio of the animation was also a factor. So here is my question:

Has anyone ever heard of an animation running smoother because the animation had an aspect ratio of 4:3 or the height was smaller than the width?

Change Document Dimensions Based On Movieclip
Hi There. This must be a simple one, as I dont see anyone else having this problem.

I would like to dynamically change the height of my flash document based on the height of a movie clip, but keep the movie clip size as it is. My keyframe's as3 looks something like this:

import flash.display.StageAlign;
import flash.display.StageScaleMode;
import flash.events.Event;
import library.News;

latestNews = new News();
addChild(latestNews);

StageSettings();

function StageSettings()
{
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
}

.. and in the News class Im just creating some text in a movie clip. Problem is that when I want to rescale the document's height to make all the news visible, if I call:

this.height = MyMovieClip.height;

everything scale, but the document. If I call:

stage.height = MyMovieClip.height;

I get an error that stage does not support that property.

I also tried:

stage.stageHeight = MyMovieClip.height;

but nothing changes visually. The document's height stays the same.

I assume there must be a call that allows me to keep the movieclip scale but just change the flash document dimensions?
thanks in advance

Getting Movie Dimensions From Inside Flash?
Hi,

I'm wondering if there is any way to get a movie's dimensions from inside flash/actionscript.

The reason I need to do this is because I want to enable users of my site to embed the flash movie I am working on onto their site (the flash movie loads dynamic content), while at the same time keeping the ratio of the content inside of the movie the same, just in case the user chooses to resize the <object> or <embed> tag to incorrect proportions. I want to avoid the content inside of the flash looking squished.

Here's a detailed example to make sure everyone is on the same page...

- Some dynamic content that will be in the flash movie has a width of 100, and a height of 200. Hence a ratio of 1:2.

- A user copies a premade object/embed tag from my website (that has the above-mentioned width/height parameters) and puts it on their website, but after realizing they don't have 200 pixels of space to fit the height of the flash movie, they replace the 200 height with 100, but leave the width at 100 as well. This changes the ratio of the movie to 1:1 from 1:2. that means that the height of all the content will be squished to 1/2 the size it is supposed to be on that user's webpage. This is what I don't want.

- If i had the movie width and height inside of flash/actionscript, ie- the width of the object/embed tag, I could rescale the content inside so that it retains the ratio that I want without any stretching or skewing. There would be some space leftover, but a simple padding function could take care of this (ie- i could center the content).

- The solution must not require any javascript. Yes i realize I could, with js, get the object/embed width/height and send it to flash with the new external interface calls that were made available in flash 8, however, I do not want to force users that choose to embed this content to use any javascripts.

I hope I have been clear enough in my description, and hope there is an answer to this question thanks.

Movie Dimensions. Is It Possible?
Can you have both a % and absolute value in PX at the same time?
What I'd like, is for the movie to be 100% but never more then XX pixels by XX pixels.

So, let's say the movie is 500px by 400px, then the movie should take up all the screen space it can, until it reaches that dimension, or stop when there is not space left. So, can you do a

if
movie size, 500px by 400px
if <=100%.document

else
100% .document.

Could something like this be possible?

Getting Dimensions Of A Movie Clip

I'm making a photo album that resizes pictures depending on their ratio compared to the ratio of the available space on the stage. Here is what I'm using so far. It is far from working properly though.

_root.onEnterFrame = function() {
// when a new Photo is selected, fade out, load new image, and fade in
if (square._alpha>10 && fadeOut) {
square._alpha -= 5;
}
if (square._alpha<10) {
loadMovie("./images/image"+whichPic+".jpg", "square");
///inserted
ratio = square._width/square._height;
trace(ratio);
if (ratio<595.9/425.5) {
square._width = 595.9;
square._height = _width*ratio;
}
if (ratio>425.5/595.9) {
square._height = 425.5;
square._width = _height*(1/ratio);
}

fadeOut = false;
fadeIn = true;
}
if (square._alpha<100 && fadeIn && !fadeOut) {
square._alpha += 5;
} else {
fadeIn = false;
}
// limit input field
/*if (input>5) {
input = 5;
}*/
// initiate change to new image when Enter key is pressed
if (Key.isDown(Key.ENTER)) {
fadeOut = true;
whichpic = input;
}
};

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Obtaining The Dimensions Of A Loaded Movie?
I am loading movie clips into a point on my main movie screen. I need to find a way of detecting what the original dimensions of each loaded movie are so that I can scale them to fit an area.

The getBounds command will only return the actual minimum and maximum points of the graphic within the movie itself and NOT the original movie size. i.e. if the movie was 100*100 contained a 50*50 square in the centre then the getBounds command would return the following:-

xMin=25, yMin=25, xMax=75, yMax=75
and NOT
xMin=0, yMin=0, xMax=100, yMax=100

Anyone know a way to find this information?
