How Can You Make Flash Download Media Files?
How can someone make a flash movie link download a media file rather allowing them to open and play in a browser?
I have always used up until now the clumsy way of zipping the files so the browser prompts you to save the files on your disk but I'm looking for a more elegant way of doing it through flash code.

Any thougths?

Make Folder Download
Please help!

How can I get a folder with a .pdf in it - from a server to a web user's desktop, via flash 5?
using getURL("folder/mydoc.pdf");
just tries to open the pdf, I want it to download to the computer.

My situation is that I've been asked to use a .pdf to show a portfolio online.
problem is - sometimes it takes a while on a dial up connection to actually view the .pdf in the browser - so I would rather find out how to get a folder to dowload from a server to the desktop where a user can open and view the .pdf fassster.

if the Download Manager pops up or something, the viewer will know something is happening.

I want to make it so people can download a mp3 from my website but I cannot figure out how to make this work in flash. Right now i'm hyperlinking to the mp3 but that just opens it in a media player and does not let the user download the file to there comptuers. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

What i want is a button, that when it is clicked will activate a file download...similar to right clicking and choosing "save as" on a hyper-link in html to download a file. My file structure looks like this...

not the actual website==> http://website.com/images/video.mp4

I made a hyperlink to this with the button already, but what happens is it changes the whole flash browser into the quicktime window, then waits for the DL..then plays. Audio Download Link From Flash To Download Dialog
I am defining a URL to an MP3 file and then having a button use getURL onPress to open it. On my computer, this opens a dialog box to save the file.

However, on some computers, it opens the file in Quicktime in browser, I'm guessing just because Quicktime is configured to do so for them.

I want the link to always go to the regular save dialog box, so that it doesn't go away from my full screen Flash site, and so the user can download the file instead of just listening in browser.

Any ideas on how to do this, either by using a different link or a different method?

How To Make Password Dialogue Box And Automatic Download
Hello everyone.

I have been usng Flash 5 for about a year now, mainly for making movies (for friends) and simple NON-CODE menus.

Now I am working on a big intro/logo for a website. At the end of my logo movie, I have 2 options (buttons): MEMBERS and GUESTS. I would like to make it so that when you click MEMBERS a dialogue box appears telling you to write your password. I have no problem making the dialogue box appear IF the button is clicked. But how do I make a place to write in the box, a way to write, a way to check if it is right, and a link to url if it is right?

I have never used code for Flash but I have 2 years experiance (good) with C++. From all the code I have seen so far in Flash, such as loops and variables, it seems extremely similar to C++. Can anyone tell me how to make the dialogue/password box. Can you use strings and if statements? If so, when should I use them?

My Idea so far: (not real code, so you can understand)
Right-Click the button, say IF CLICKED, go to some frame with the box visible (maybe use ALPHA for this one). How would I make the area for writing the password, how would I allow the keyboard to write in this line I make? What code should I use?

P.S.
How can I make a Flash movie automatically send a file to be downloaded. After so many seconds a DO YOU WISH TO DOWNLOAD (from IE or Netscape) will apear. How can I do this?

How To Make A Projector Download And Play On Both Platforms
I am creating a flash projector for a small presentation. How can I make the projector download and automaticaly play from a link on a page. I've tried the zip-it that makes it download but you then have to go through unzipping it and then doubleclicking it to get it to play. I've tried telling it to place itself in and open a new window and I get a text/code that is globbly goop starting with the word Joy! (Makes me laugh!) The reason I want to use a projector (rather than an swf in a pop up window) is that you don't have to have the most recent Flash Player in order to play it. I also want to be able to serve both a .exe to PC users and a projector to Mac users also. Please help!

How Do I Make A Video Position Slider And Download Progress Indicator?
My flash video files have to be on a separate server to my website files due to server space. The flash files are on a big server and the web files are on a small apache server. Flv files wouldnâ€™t work across servers, so Iâ€™ve had to embed the flvsâ€™ in the swfsâ€™ and put them on the big server.

The problem now is that there is no ready made slider, and download progress indicator, provided when you embed. Iâ€™ve put pause/play, frame step, go-to-start and go-to-end buttons on, but I donâ€™t know how to make a position slider with progress indicator. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

I want onSoundComplete for a button to appear - I have this part covered easily.

My silly question is this:

If I create a direct link to the mp3 that plays...How can I have this "by default" not require a "Save Target As" type user interaction.

On some websites I visit...thier links take me straight to my downloads window, and some the file will play within the browswer....

Is there a way (for people like my dad, who don't know the internet well...)for my button to have

getURL("http://directlink to my file . mp3") BUT not open their media player within the browswer, but save it to their default download location or even better, to their desktop.

I am sensing javascript...which is an ok option I guess...

I want this to be within flash.swf file also - - - not an html solution.

But the below example is sort of what I am talking about...click on the mp3 blue links, and quicktime or windows media will open automatically...and then you need to know how to save from that applicatin (which seems easy, but not for everyone....)

Download Window Or Forced Download Instead Of Quicktime / Wmp
Hello Forum!-

I have been building my website in flash and have a simple question that I cannot figure out for some reason (maybe its too simple) . Anyhow I have uploaded my mp3 songs of my music and used the geturl and _blank so that when someone clicks on my link the music opens right into thier quicktime player (if on mac) or windows media player (if on pc). I want the user to be able to download the mp3 to there computer (ie like a normal download window appears stating "do you want to download this file to disk" is there some other code or line I need to add ???? It seems so simple? I would really appreciate the help as I have tried a number of things with no success. I have seen that I have to use FileReference but I do not completely understand it

here is what i currently have which is not working... I have a button that I created and placed this in the action within the button

Force Flash To Open File Download Box In Front Of The Flash Movie
Folks,
I'm making a dvd title using flash to auto start when people pops the dvd disc in.
I have a button 'Click here to download the movie' and clicking the button should pop up a file download box so people can save the movie file(.mov) to their desktop.
Problem is that the file download box shows up behind the flash movie so people won't be able to see the download box since it's hidden behind the flash. This is critical since I intend the flash to open as a full-screen mode.
Is there a way to force the flash to open the download box in front of the flash movie?

I tried getURL and fscommand ("exec", "filename.exe") and even fileReference commands to try different way of linking the movie file, and they all open download box behind the flash.

Please help~~~

Playing Flash .swf Tracks With A Flash Player Without Waiting To Download?
Please Help!

I downloaded a Flash Player off this site. I modified it and I can get my music .swf tracks to play off my hard drive fine.

But when the seperate music data files are on the server, the music .swf tracks do play, but take a really really long time to start.

Question is:

Do I save the data.swf music files as streams or event movies. If I change the layer with the audio to STREAM. It only plays the 1st frame of the timeline, then stops. I saved the music files as seperate individual movie .swf tacks EVENTS and uploaded them. Each one is abaout 4 megs. The Flash Player plays them but not right away.

How can I get the music to play as soon as the track is clicked so there is no delay.

I created a download button with an actionscript to GetURL to downlaod a zip file the problem is it wont get the file. I used the correct folder names, and it works fine if I dont use folders but in folders it doesnt work the url is....

download/colorpad/zipfile.zip

also download/wallpaper/zipfile.zip

zipfile be set to the name of the file. Now as I said above if I dont put the zip files in a sepereate folder I can link with the getURL just putting in zipfile.zip. But as soon as I go and put it in folders and update the GetURL actionscript it doesnt work.

I have created a website and for the menu I used a flash movie. The problem is that, when my users try to access my website, their ISP will not let them download the flash required to see the menu. Is there any way, they can watch my site using regular buttons which I have created. I don't want the users to be redirected to a different site. Or there is no other way other than redirecting them. I have a couple of DJs that what a website made for them. Thats easy enough, but they want a way to preview music and then have a payfor music download. I can do this, but the only way I know will be very bulky. Is there a way I can do this easily in flash, or should I do some other way?
