I m really in trouble... I cannot figure out how to create a link to a specific page of amazon.com... I used the behavious / web / go to web page but it doesnt accept it because it says that there are characters that flash does not recognise. this is the sort of link to be clear:

Can U Create Xml Documents Direct From Flash Without Server-side Scripts ?
Hi everyone !

Quick question - I know how to load in and process XML documents located on the server from Flash but does anyone know whether or not I can simply take my newly created XML object from Flash and directly create a new XML document on the server without using any PHP / ASP or other server-side scripts ?

HI, i am building a site where i want the user to have the choice of
streaming a piece of music, or downloading it as a standard MP3 file.
Ive worked out the Streaming side but not how when a user clicks on the download option it gives them the option of either downloading it or opening it. Im sure this is pretty straightforward but cant figure it out any help would be appreciated.

Offer Mp3 Downloads?
Hi,

I have a flash website (MX) and would like to offer visitors the chance to download MP3's of my own works!.

I was thinking that once I received payment (via paypal.com) I could the send the visitor a link or something to download the mp3 (in a zip).

My question is....

Is there any way to make it a limited download. i.e once they have downloaded it, they can't download it again. (So they can't send everyone the link to download from!)

Using The Swish Swi Downloads
I have downloaded some of the nice swish swi files, but now that I have them downloaded, how do I actually place them in the current swish file that I"m working on. Or do I need to start over somehow using what I downloaded.

This would be great, especially for the scroll bar, and scroll press, then all I have to do is figure out how the change the text that swish has and place mine in there, not unless you can explain to me how to add my text.

How do I allow users to download MP3's, JPG's and PDF's from my website to their hard drive so they can have and keep the files?

For PDF's: How do I offer users the option to either view the PDF or to download the file?

What happens while the user is downloading a file? Can they still do other interactions with the Flash site? Can they listen to other externally streamed MP3's while downloading an MP3 to keep?

Can I name the downloadable files with spaces between words, like "Song To Download.mp3" ? I am on a Mac and I'm not familiar with Windows naming conventions.

Shall I capitalize the file extensions, like: MP3, JPG, PDF? Or shall I write them in lowercase: mp3, jpg, pdf?

I have a problem that I am trying to trouble shoot, and I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems.

I am using the on release getURL("filename.ext", "_blank") command that I normally use to allow downloads of documents with Flash buttons. Recently I've noticed a problem of documents (particulaly Word documents) "not being found." PDFs and ZIPs dont' seem to have the same problem, but not everyone in the user group I'm dealing with may have applications to open those files.

The current workaround I've found is to advise users to hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the button and forcing the download of the documents. This is a less than elegant solution, so I was hoping someone might have some advice on a better approach.

I'm running my SWF files from a learning management system server, but that doesn't seem to be making any difference to my problem. I get the same issue when I try to run the SWF from my hard drive.

Scrolling Downloads
I'm completely new to Flash, so, I'm not quite familiar with how everything works. I've looked at tutorials and such, but none of them quite cover exactly what I'm trying to do, and I really have no clue how to either.

Here is a picture of my idea, drawn up in photoshop. Basically, I want the middle area to scroll when the user mouses over the upper or lower arrows. And obviously, allow the user to click and download whichever they choose.

Any ideas, thoughts, links to similar projects, or anything, would be helpful.

I am trying to make a script that attempts to download a file off my website, if the website is inaccessible it uses to local copy.... this way if i take the link down they will get archived file.

so some sort of If then is needed with just a simple GetURL running...

How To Do Mp3 Downloads In Firefox?

And this works correctly in ie but firefox plays the file, I dont want to put instructions to change how firefox manages mp3 file types. Is there another way to download mp3 files in flash.

ok I am sure this has been asked alot, but the serch function is not being kind.. so.. here it goes. I created an app to help not so computer savvy users download a file. I would like to do 2 things with it.

1. Make it so it doesnt open a new webpage, and show the link to the file.

2. Somehow write it so we can put it on our FTP server and have the app log into and Download the file fromt he FTP rather than putting it on our http server. If it helps here is my current working code.

Problems With Downloads In IE On XP
I launched my website, www.freedmania.com, four or five years ago, building it in Flash 5. Though I've updated the content from time to time, I haven't changed the code much at all. Suddenly, I can't download my resume in IE.

If you enter my site and click on 'Resume', the html version appears in a new window. When you close that, you are facing two buttons, one each for downloading a .doc or a .txt version. Neither of these work in IE.

The swf is published as a Flash 5 document, and the buttons carry Flash 5 code:

This results in a Microsoft "No Page To Display" page, which announces:
Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

It isn't. In fact, in my Mozilla browser, it downloads just fine, thanks.

Is there a more effective way to offer a document for download in IE?

I realize the guidelines call for 'intelligent' questions. I'm sorry for the banality of this issue. Frankly, I never have problems that approach Nobel Prize qualifications. Rather than feel inadequate, I remind myself that even a small step forward raises the common level. Could someone please stoop down, and help me up?

Yea i know this has been asked many many times. Believe me i searched the forums.

Here is the situation: i load xml in an html text field. from the xml i retrieve a link which will end up in a <a href> with a target set as blank.

Now this works fine... on most machines. Some users complain that they cant download the files!

I don't know why, but i cannot download Flash Player 9. It just goes to a screen that loads with an error. Works fine on my desktop but not my laptop. I have used the uninstaller that adobe provides, but cannot get a new copy to install. Tried in IE and Modzilla. Any ideas?

Problems With Downloads

I downloaded the trail version of CS3 - the program worked fine untill i tried to - Import to stage. The moment i would try that the program would just suddenly close down. Since then i have deleted the program and reinstalled several times. I get the sense that certain traces are left behind on my computer even though i removed it correctly, thus causing any other installations to fail or have the same problem.

Any advice ? Is there any way that i can remove every possible trace from my computer to start with a clean slate so to speak?

I am going crazy - been at it for 2 solid days now.

It has to be searchable and pretty much self-running (once everything is set up ofcourse). Weird Downloads
Here's something I've been noticing for a long time now.

Purevolume.com has a streaming mp3 player which works ok. But most of the sites, which have such mp3 players, before actually playing the track force a download of the track itself. But I never have had this problem with the player on Purevolume.com

Everytime I try to create a streaming mp3 player flash player forces a download.

Please someone let me know how to prevent it.

My client wants to make some of his original songs available for download. How do I script a button to begin downloading? How do I setup the MP3 file? Should I just place it in a folder on the server or make it a part of an HTML file? I'm hoping for the most universal solution, Mac and Windows. Thanks!
