How To Format .txt Files?
I wasn't sure if this post would go under Flash MX, or AS; but here i am. I am loading external .txt files into a scrollbar. I need to know how to format the text in the .txt file (I.E font size, color, bold, italic). Or, if there are simple tutorials or reference guides that i can look at.
I'm sure this is common knowledge to most of you Kirupians; care to take a few minutes to let me know? Thanks!

Enabling Your Clients To Edit These Xml Files Or Txt Files In An Easy To Edit Format
Okay so this is an issue i've faced since day one and am growing tired of not having an ideal solution for. I've learned to create files that can be updated via xml or simple .txt to make the updating process easier, but how do you gurus out there bridge the gap by enabling your clients to edit these xml files or txt files in an easy to edit format like your basic cms... but except it would be cms that would update the xml or txt file and then in turn update your swf file.

I'm sure you guys out there rely on many different solutions but i'm just looking for some enlightenment on the different ways to accomplish this and what i could possibly do to be pointed in the right direction.

Does anyone know how to make it look neat with only 1 line spacing between paragraphs?
If you take a look at the 'about' section on my site then you'll see what I mean. IF I use a line as a spave in notepad then I get 2 when I view online, but if I dont use any spacing then when I test it locally its fine, but online there is no spacing....It really buging me.

Can SWF Files Save As Another Format
Hello all. I wanted to know if a swf file can save the work in it as another format. I sure the answer is no, But I'm thinking can it save it self as jpg. What I wanted to do is make a swf that lets you create a graphic. You can edit the text and Add and remove elements. I know that flash or (the swf) can save the last thing you did in a movie clip. I know that people would like to save the different version that they made and go back to them. If can't save as a jpg that would be ok, but any ideas on save a file as different versions.And be able to acces them.

Best Image Format For Smaller Flash Files

Hello there,

I have been updating a website with a lot more pictures in the gallery. What my question is, what is the best way to save images to load into Flash??

I have been told in the past that if I save all my images as .psd then load those into Flash they will be compressed smaller than .jpgs. Even though the .jpgs files would be smaller than .psd.

Is this true? Also, would you say this site takes too long to load? If so how would you make it load faster?? www.countandcastle.com

Creating Older Format Flash Files
Hiya,

I'm using flash studio8 version, but i want to create swf movies that will work in older versions of flash players online, ideally flash player 6. How do I go about ensuring that everything I do will be suitable for saving as a compatible flash 6 document, as when i've tried to export movies as being compatible with older versions of the player, it wont work.

Prevent SWF Files From Being Decompiled Back Into FLA Format
Some programs such as Sothink SWF Decompiler may be used to decompile the SWF files back into FLA format. Even the ActionScirpt inside the SWF files can be decompiled as well! No one can even tell the difference between the original FLA file and the compiled FLA file! What can we do to prevent this from happening? I heard that we may protect the SWF files by using ActionScript Obfuscator. Is it true? How to do that? Please help, I must do something on it.

Reducing/converting Swf Files In Smaller Format (width, Height And Kb's) Possible?
Does anybody know if it is possible to convert swf files (with lots of bitmaps) to smaller files in sense of filesize in kb and format (while keeping the actionscript), like converting an 400X300 swf to 200X150.

for instance like one could resize an 720X640 avi or jpeg to an avi/jpeg half that size and very much smaller in kb's.

This question could bring up a lot of things which I know of and dont mean to do, like:

setting the jpeg publish quality lower
reducing individual jpeg quality
resizing it in the browser window or resizing it in an movieclip

The point is that I have some swf files which are made for an cd-production and are large in terms of filesize in kb and format (width, height) and I want to convert them for the internet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Launching File With BAT Files Format..how To Make The File Open Faster?
Tried to launch Powerpoint Presentation from flash. But seem to have various speed in terms of how the powerpoint is start. And also sometime the BAT file failed to intiate the launch on the first click.

Can anyone help me. I need to convert some input from #,# to #.# in order to perform some calcuations. There are two input boxes where the user inserts some dimension using both "," or "." decimal separators. The problem is that I can't divide a number like 4,5 only if it's written like 4.5 for example.

Hi! I'm brand new to KoolMoves and I have a question. I made a banner today for a story I have posted on a website. To be able to post it on the site, I have to have it hosted through an Image Hosting website. I use Pix8, and when I tried to upload my banner to the site, it wouldn't accept the flash format. Does anyone know if there is a way to convert my banner to JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG or PDF format? I would appreciate any help anyone could give me, this has me really frustrated! Thanks!!!

Importing Files/ Opening Files In Files/ Adding Files Into Scenes.
Alright Here is the deal.
I got some movies, which are seperate FLA. files, and I want to eventually add all these 4 seperate files, into scenes in one main FLA. file. How do I do this so that I have the symbols ect. I am pretty sure you can't just copy/paste.

Which FLASH** guru out there can lead me in the right direction?

.bat Files Start From .swf Files But Not From .html Files ?
I tried to use fscommand to execute certain batch files on my system. It worked fine while I tested the swf file, but didn't do anything when I published the movie and tried the same in the .html file ?

Get Value From DB's Yes/No Format

I have MS Access DB and column within named "show" in format Yes/No;
I would like to change text inside box text field depend on that is Yes or Not checked in my DB, i tried this:

but it does always back to me else condition,
where i'm wrong?

Can anyone tell me that how can I get the SVG format from flash through ActionScript at runtime.

Let say I am designing a template in flash which uses text, images, and vector graphics. I need to export the same as a high resolution JPEG and also need to export the same as SVG format.

I know how to export the high resolution JPEG, but I don’t know how to export the SVG format. Can anyone help me in doing the same?

Regarding FLV Format
Hi All,
I was new in this area of flash videos and the associated FLV format.
Using an FLV parser, I could see there are many keyframes and in between keyframes, there are interframes.
What I have got from net, is that interframes are the differences from the last keyframe at a particular instant.
Question is ...
1. How these differences are calculated and encoded? Does it store the pixel position where the changes are significant? I couldn't figure it out from net.
2. Why then keyframes have got different data length? If the keyframes are the main frames, from which the successive frames are created using interframes, then why keyframes have got different data length? Or is there an encoding mechanism used to encode keyframes also? If yes, what coding has been used?

Answer to these two questions will make my understanding of FLV format clear.

I was sent an FLV and when I double-clicked it, it launched my Flash Player 8, but the screen was blank. Nothing played.
I'm only familiar with FLAs and SWFs so can you give me a quick overview about FLVs?

Also, how large are typical movie files that stream and play through an embedded player (with stop, pause, etc)? Are they usually 15+mb? (I need to check on that)...I mean, is it typical that they are pretty large files?

I need to add the FLV to a web page. If you could possibly point me in the right direction in order to download and utilize one of the free players (movie controls), I'd appreciate it!

XML Format
I can not read my XML into a DataGrid. I have looked at the TimeSheet tutorial and have been able to get it to work, but can not make the adjustments to this file. I was wondering if there was a problem with XML itself?

New MC Format For Me
Hey lostinbeta and flex, and anyone else that cares to, please take a look at this new attempt of mine. Time Format? 00:00:00 Can Anyone Help?
I'm trying to figure out a way to write time format from a number. This is a little odd.. try to follow along...

I have a Movie Clip that plays at 60 frames per second.
So if I am at Frame 60 then the time should read 00:01 for one second.
At the moment I have code to convert that number into seconds that reads:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
whereWeAre = _root.music._currentframe;
secs = int(whereWeAre / 60);
}

The problem is when I reach 61 seconds, I need to reset the seconds back to 1
and then in turn have my minute = 1

Getting this so far?

I'm thinking there has to be an eaiser, more efficient way to do this other than :

Allso I wonder what is the expected file size of a video file to use on the internet. I have looked arround some of your threads to discover that the most of you are targeting extreamly low filesizes (one guy thought that his 130 kb intro was too huge).

Best Format For My Purposes?
Hi. I am a newbie (as probaly every one else in here) and I want to construct a flash (duh) menu.

My idea is rather simple I guess.
The menu will eventually be made up of 8 or so buttons horisontally. When i press the 4:th, the buttons under it will slide down and allow room for 2 smaller buttons that will either come down from under the 4:th or in from the left.
But there is a looong way to that... :/

Now to my first step:
i cant seem to get the "shiny" look on my buttons in Flash MX, so I'm going to try in Photoshop 6.
What is the best format to import to MX considering that I want to make the centerpart of my future button to glow later on in MX?

Feel free to do a perfect menu for me since I'm going mad in the process of understanding Flash...

I am about to start working on a new online application using manly Flash, in this application the user will login and download 20 to 50 second Video clips (160X120 frame size), using the Flash interface the user is going to control the movies (Stop, Play etc.). I am going to put the movies in different SWF clips and use movieClip.loadMovie to call the into the main movie.

this is my plan but if anyone can think here can think of a better way to do it please write.

From your experience what kind of format should I use for the movies ? I read about the new FLV format what are the advantages of that format ? how does an FLV movie differ from a simple SWF with MOV movie embedded in it ?

Importing .EPS Format
I used Xara X to design some of the graphics for my Flash (I'm using MX) site but when I tried to import them they messed up. What's even wierder is that some of them actually look okay on the .fla, but when I convert it to a .swf they mess up. I am exporting them from Xara as Illustrator .eps format and then importing the .eps into the library in Flash. Any suggestions? This prototype is due tomorrow and that's so far my only problem...also, does .eps support transparency?

What's Up With Exporting In Mac Format?
I've got a client that needs his project in Mac and PC format. That's no problem. I'm working on a PC and can export my Flash file as a Mac .hqx file right? Well, it either gives him errors or it won't even run. Why? I'm new at Macs. (just so you know it works on the desktop and after he installed Stuffit expander but now from the CD). How do you get a Mac projector to work?

i was reading some stuff from swfopen.org like
Signature UI8 Signature byte 1 - always 'F'

etc.....
but when i opened it in notepad .....some strange language appeared....is there any special editor in which we open swf files.....
and i often read term "SDK" on macromedia.com and on other big sites what it means please explain me little or give me some link where i can learn more about this...
at were-here there were plenty of threads regarding this .....but i don't know that were-here will be up again...

Can't Auto-format
For soem reason I can't use auto-format. It's saying my script contains syntax errors but when I test the movie, it plays perfectly without and errors. I think the problem was caused by using the '#include' function to call an ActionScript file, as the problem started to occur when I started using it. Is there anyway to auto-format it without this happening?
