now you can create full flash windows applications with third party tools than can connect to databases without the needing of a server, and make the same and even more than a visual app can do.

for the people that didnt know about this, there some cool apps like swfkit , jester, Flash studio pro and some more ...

are you developing flash windows applications and what do you think about the future of flash ?

Creating Desktop Apps/Utility
Hi

Can anybody recommend a good piece of software that will allow me to convert a FLA or SWF into a flash desktop application/utilities/screensaver that can sit on the users taskbar etc.

I've seen the open sourse stuff like screenweaver but whenever I try to make something with it I get a virus scan warning so the builds never complete. These apps are for commercial use so there cant be any links/credits to the actual software that I use etc etc

Any suggestions?

Adding Links To Installed Apps On Flash Desktop
I've built my flash desktop, animated and such... only problem is that I haven't figured out how to link to installed programs like an icon does instead of browser locked items such as websites.

For Example, interactive button says Notepad, I want notepad to open when I click it. Don't know too much about action scripting yet so I'm sure there's something in there someplace I can use. Already tried on (release) getURL.

Anyone know what to do on this one?

Interaction From External Apps To Flash Apps
The Flash Remoting MX documentation describes how a Flash application can call an external application service (i.e. a method of a Java module). It seems that Flash Remoting application structure allows only interaction from Flash apps to external Application Servers.
Anyone knows if it is possible to share data (in a synchronous manner) between Flash and another external application, or to raise an event/invoke a method on a Flash application from an external app?

New Instance Button Doesn't Work, No Apps Listed, But Apps Work
In my admin panel if I click on the New Instance button it doesn't do anything. I've seen other posts about this and they all end up being caused by people having no applications to load, but that's not the case here. My apps are installed and they work fine, but the new instance button doesn't list them and they don't show up in the applications list of the admin panel, even when they're running.

This has to be something pretty simple, but I'm not having any luck figuring it out. Any ideas?

Flash In Other Apps.
Hello, Powerpoint is horrible. Flash rules!
However sometimes my company doesn't give me a choice.
It seems like a lot of corporations love Powerpoint.
Anyway, I wanted to insert an entire Flash file into
Powerpoint. I managed to do that. Only it showed up
as an icon to click on the Flash file. Is there any
way I can have the ppt file play the Flash as soon as
I start a slide show. Powerpoint's animation is horrible.
Flash is so much more sophisticated.

Too Many Flash Apps?
Hey,

I’m working on a form that includes a small flash program that allows users to rate the current item in a list. The list is dynamically generated based upon items that users have selected to add to their lists. However the problem is that some of my users have over 700 items in their lists and therefore would have over 700 occurrences of that flash program on their pages. I'm afraid that this would be too much for the users computers to handle. However I've considered breaking up the list into multiple pages but because the list is a form (there are other properties of each item users can change) I’m afraid it might be more confusing for them if the page is broken up.

My first thought would be that this is way too many apps but on second thought I was wondering if flash would recognize that they are the same and therefore only have one copy of.

Would having over 700 copies of the same flash app. on one page for some users be too much for them to handle? Or am I just making a big deal out of nothing?

Switching Apps
Hi,

Every time I switch from one app (or the finder) to Flash I get the color wheel for about 15 seconds. Very frustrating.

Create My Own Apps Without Air?
Well I have flash 8 and I will nto be upgrading it for a LONGG while. So Air is out of the window but I do have C#. If i created flash apps and placed them in C# would it be similar to using Air? (obviously there would be a few things I cant do) And also if I made a swf that had a transparent background, and inserted it into a c# window with a transparent background, would the program when I run it appear as just the flash file I made with a transparent background? Asif I was running a widget on my desktop?

How can I open say, an excel file from a button within a flash projector. I'm working on a mac but the final product will be on an autorun cd for windows.

Is SWF Studio for PC only? Any other similar utilities?

Preloader For Non-internet Apps
Let me ask you this. Is it possible to add a preloader to a movie that isn't going to be played over the net?
More clearly, the .swf file will just be played off a cd.
It seems that when doing this, the program tells itself the frames are all loaded upon opening the .swf file...or am I completely wrong? Or does it matter when playing the .swf this way? Maybe the frames do all instantly load.

I have recently updated some flash 5 flas to MX and discovered that the MX projectors won't launch external apps
here's the script:

Worked fine in Flash5
Any pointers as to why this aint working in an MX projector?
It just quits, so it's doing that part.
The "tscc.exe" file is in the same directory as the projector.

Opening Apps From Projectors
Hi all,

How in the Bleedin hell do you get an application say "Acrobat Reader" to open from a Mac/Pc Projector?

I can get it to open with the "Get url" Command but it opens it via Internet Explorer, which I dont want to happen!

After installing the program suit I cannot open any of the applications. Program icon bounces a couple times and then stops. I have gotten the message "program not responding" I have also tried launching from the application folder also. All my other apps. work.

Have tried:
repairing permissions
re-installing system
ran Onyx

Any ideas?

Resixing Flash Apps.
I would like to know a command that could resize my flash application, because I must resize the window manually by dragging the frame of that window, and I also must use the zoom in thing in the options of my fla(when I run it).
Are there commands that could do the above, but leaving my fla centered too?

Can't Get External Apps To Load From SWF
So I've got this going on: I have a button in my .fla that needs to be set to load a program (from a CD, for instance). It's a link that needs to run a file "spybot13.exe" from the same directory on the CD that it will be on, and nothing I've tried with FSCOMMAND works. Here's the code I'm using:

It's on a Windows XP computer, but it might also need to run in a Windows 98/ME computer. Either way, in the published SWF file, I click on the link, and it does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

What Apps Do I Need? Completely Lost...
I am so completely lost on all of this, I don't even know what applications I need to do what I want to do... I want to be able to have video clips "built in" to my website, so that they automatically play when the page loads- and/or play instantly when a play button is pushed by the viewer. All I have done until now is make a link directly to a .wmv file - and I've played with imbedding the windows media player in the page - but I know there is a better way to do it.

I would also like to be able to create simple (for now anyway) animations using company logos, etc.

I'm sorry to be so lost, but I'm not even sure what I am talking about is flash.

I tried to find somewhere on the adobe page where I could e-mail customer service to ask what I need, but you have to specify a product to get to the point of emailing them, and I obviously don't know which product I need to look at.

Automation Of Flash Apps?
I apologize if this is not the right forum for this, but I'm a little overwhelmed by all of the tools and add-ons available.

I've built a Flash menu that customers within my organization love - now they want more. Instead of building each one as a one-off and then maintain all of them, I'd like to build an app that would let them customize it to their needs, publish it, and make changes as desired.

My first plan was to just make the menu SWF read the content from an XML file, then build an app that would allow them to add/edit/delete objects and read/write the XML (so they don't hose up the XML file) ... but they'll want to change the background images etc. I guess I could have the paths to those images in the XML, but I wondered if there was another way. Maybe the UI could also make changes to the FLA and publish a new SWF?

Is there a way (JSFL?) to build a template FLA, and provide a UI which would set values programmatically, and publish the results?

Does Realplayer Break Your FMS Apps?
I installed Realplayer 11 beta on one of my Windows Vista machines yesterday, and it seems to be getting in the way of the flashplayers netconnection.connect requests.

I found that varaible data that should be sent to Flash Media Server applications through the Flashplayer client (in the NetConnection.connect arguments) is no longer being sent, and all of the variables come up as undefined on the server side!

The new reaplayer has a feature that gives you a button to grab video files from web pages. I found that if you don't install this button (there's an option in the reaplayer installer), the problem with the netconnection vars doesn't come up.

This is happening on Vista/IE7/FP9. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Apps Only Work From Localhost
I installed the sample applications from the FMS webpage and they work fine when I access them through my web browser on the local machine. But I can't seem to connect to the applications correctly when I use a different computer and reference the server by IP. I can access the swf file just fine, but I dont seem to be able to connect to the server.

For instance the guestbook application has a Connected or "Not connected" icon in the corner and it always says "Not Connected". Or if I try the survey application, not surveys are populated in the drop down menu. LIke i said though everything works from when im on my local machine.

does anyone know what the problem could be?

Sending Variables To Other Apps
Hey, this has been bugging me for quite some time. I'm trying to get a Flash interface to control another program (Max/MSP) by sending simple variables to it, not over a network, but on the same machine.

Everything I've found tells me to either use Flash's OSC or some sort of network technology like ASP. So far, nothing I've found has really helped me at all.

Anyone know a way to send variables from Flash to other applications on the same computer? This could be a really cool project, if I could get past this one problem.

Cannot Publish AIR Apps In Flash Cs3
Hi,

Today I decided to install the extension to create Adobe AIR applications in Flash.

I downloaded the extension with no problems; I started creating a simple hello world application but when I tried to publish it, nothing did happen I see the loading bar (publishing bar) starting but then it disappears immediately it seems that it is creating the .swf file and some other files but it doesn't show me a preview when publishing.

No problem when I try to publish regular .fla files.

These are my Publish Settings:
Formats tab – flash and html are checked.
Flash tab - Version (Adobe AIR 1.0)
Html tab – Template (Flash Only)

I know this is something I probably shouldn’t be posting on this forum but I need help.

Any idea?

Creating a t-shirt design for example, customizing a piece of furniture, etc etc...
I am not looking for source files or anything, I have my own application. I am just looking for similar apps already in use on the web.

Developing Flash Apps On Mac Or PC?
I've heard that Flash performs better (faster) on a PC, but I am a mac user. Sometimes Flash 8 will quit unexpectedly while running on my powerbook. I was just wondering if anyone has had any know problems running Flash 8 on a mac.

Grant Skinner released an extension that allows testing and publication to an AIR file using Flash CS3. It's super easy to use, just be sure to read the 'installation' AND 'how to use' instructions carefully.
