I'm trying to figure out how you make the little icon appear in the web address bar. Like how there is a F symbol for flash kit rather than the typical earth looking thing.

Getting The Url From The Browser Address Bar

I'm trying to create a customisable ecard. I know I need to have info in the url so the swf knows what MCs to attach and where to put them, but how do I get the url in the browsers address bar into a variable?

URL Is Repeated In Browser Address Bar
Link works to target nicely when I click on the link in the .swf file. When I embed the same .swf in Dreamweaver, however I get the URL repeated in the address bar ...something like http://www.science-ed.com/ch1/activi...y1b/index.html

I'd sure feel blessed if someone get shed some light on this behavior. The .swf file is found at http://www.science-ed.com/ch1/ch1.swf

How is it going? How can i get a Icon on the addressbar and on the Bookmarks.

If you bookmark some pages, some of them leave a icon in front of the bookmark .. stuff like logo or so..also on the addressbar in the brwoser... can somebody explain me how to do that?

Address URL In Browser.... Hide?
Hello,

Another quick question if I may. I'm using Dreamweaver to create a simple HTML site as an intro to my flash animation. Is there anyway
to link in Dreamweaver so that the address does not appear in the address URL bar on Explorer? Currently it is showing ...intro.html then ...flash.html etc as the user clicks around. I don't mind it showing the main url, just not the pages the user links too.

Any suggestion most welcome!

Hello everyone!

I need help! I know they is a line of code in Flash to make the adress bar disapear when you call a pop up window (we browser).
All I want is when I call my html from my flash movie, it opens in a pop up window (web browser) and in this window there is no adress bar and no buttons without using Java script inside the HTML.

Anybody can help me?

i no its not exactly a flash question but this problem has resulted from another string i started last week, does anyone know hat to make a browser window without an address bar in it? can it be done in dreamweaver or would it have to be scripted with something like java?

How can I make the back and forward buttons on my browser work with my flash site?

Looking For A Way To Get The URL That The Browser Shows In The Address Bar
I have a swf file that is loaded from an html file. I'm looking for a way to make sure that this swf file will redirect to its html file if it gets loaded on its own. For example:

I want it to play from http:\ www . myflashgame . com myflashgame . html

not http:\ www . myflashgame . com myflashgame . swf

I understand that _root._url will give me the link to the SWF file (AS1 &2) and loaderInfo.loaderURL gives me that same swf link in AS3.

I've seen something where use of javascript can get the address I'm looking for, but I have absolutely no clue how to use it.

If anyone could help me write the code that would find me the true URL address from the browser address bar, and have it placed into a text box on the stage, that would be GLORIOUS.

[AS1] A Way To Get The URL Found In The Browser's Address Bar.
Hi, I started this question in the CS3 thread, not knowing how HORRIBLY different AS1, 2, and 3 are from each other. The link to what I've gotten so far is here:

As for what I'm trying to get, is an AS1 way to get the address of the file that is LOADING the SWF file (like mygame.html), not the address to the SWF file itself (which is what _root._url gives you).

Anyone know how to pull this off in AS1?

Query Browser Address Bar
Hi to the forum,

I have a question regarding a flash movie on my site (movie.swf), the search engines have indexed this file. When clicked and viewed the clients browser plays the movie, is there anyway that I can detect from the movie that it is being played outside the html page (that contains my navigation and site branding etc) and then redirect the browser address to the page.html rather than the movie.swf.

Flash & Browser Address Bar
I have noticed a couple of Flash sites that appear to updating the browser address bar when the user selects a link in the movie - using anchors. The page doesn't refresh, but the address changes so each section can be bookmarked. I know about named anchors, but thought they weren't well supported and these sites work in all browsers I've tested. These are particularly good because they don't refresh the page so you can animate transitions, reduce loads etc.

Anyone Know Why Javascript Appears On Browser Address Bar?
I'm using getURL("javascript:someFunction()");

occasionally, clients are seeing the javascript call appear on the url line (address) and the browser open to a blank page. In other words getURL() actually tried to get a URL rather than executing the Javascript. I think this is more a browser issue, than Flash, but has anyone seen this?

Anyone know why it might happen?

Address Bar Prob In Browser 4 Experienced Dev's
hi all, this is for flash 5 but i dont know if it should be in this forum... but i would like 2 know if this prob can be combated using actionscript so here goes >

i am designing a website using flash for everything. to enter the website u arrive at the start page where from all the following pages appear in a browser window with no attributes, ie. no address, nav bar etc. all nav is in the flash movies.

the prob...

if i go back to the start page (the page with all attributes present)
and click on the upsidedown triangle button(located in the address bar) to quick show previous addresses visited it lists all the pages in my site i viewed, this sux cause if i click on one of these it obviously will go to the right page but will not be in the browser window with no attributes.
scrollbars will be present and so on.

Is there anyway to block the browser from storing the other site URL's except for the start page from where the open browser is activated ???

Browser Title Bar-wrong Address
I have added a small movie playing in it’s own window as part of a larger Flash site. It’s works fine but the title bar is displaying the path of my ISP address info like: http://www3.sympatico.ca/billph/toon.html
I want it to just display the site URL.
I can’t figure out any publish settings that let you control this in the Flash publish window. I don’t have an HTML program as yet like GoLive or Deamweaver. Do I need one? Are there any free ones out there?

Custom Browser Size And Address Question
Sorry for the super n00b questions

but I have 2 questions that I can not seem to find the answers to (I am sure I am entering the wrong search criteria as I know it is out there)

I am using Flash CS3 and AS 2.0 ( I am using a component that requires AS 2.0 so I can't use AS 3.0)

1) when publishing to the web a flash .swf how do I Make the swf file name invisible
ie my swiff is called welcome.swf and when I publish to the web I get www.yourname.com/welcome
I want it to just say www.yourname.com

is this something I can adjust in the .html file or is this a setting within flash.

2) I have a website that has a specific size (700x500) how do I get the web browser to auto-size to those dimensions once they load my
flash page. right now I have white space around my background image if my window is larger than 700x500.
and again is that a AS thing or a HTML thing.

[F8] Replacing Scrolling Icons To Rotating World Icons

I'm working on this web site that needs to be changed. What I want to do is replace the scroll menu with a rotting world menu. Kinda like Itunes has in the album view.

I have a function called mover that makes the scroll menu move. So what I was thinking was that all I have to do is adjust that function.

This is roating world that I want to add:

Hopefully this is a easy one, cause its been driving me crazy. What i am trying to do is change the default flashMX icons for fla. and swf. files so they use the old flash 5 icons. Which is easy to do, but every time i start up flash they all go back to the original default icons (which to me they just look to similar to each other) I am using win XP, if that would make a difference

1) Does n e 1 know how to put another icon rather than the internet explorer's or the netscape's logo at the address bar ?

2) I was checkin' on the tutorial called "creating an autorun for your .exe projectors", by william glenn. Apart from creating the autorun function, there's also this possibility of adding a custom icon. which is the format for the custom icon? (gif, jpg...) it's recommended size? (2k, 5k, etc...)

16 X 16 Icons...
I've created a simple application using PHP, text files, and a flash interface that allows users to create small - 16 x 16 icons and upload them . You can also view the icons that others have made. Its quite good fun.

If anyone would care to contribute by making me an icon or giving feedback, it would be most appreciated.

Every single icon contributed will be displayed as part of my final year project at huddersfield university on June 6th (im trying to get at least 100 - currently on 64).

Im trying to make aol icons out regular pics. How do make the pics a smaller size so the gif isnt so big the limit is 7168kb. It doesnt work when i resize the pics with flash.

Installing An .exe And Icons
Running a Flash MX projector from a CD. At a certain point, a button appears that asks the user if they want to place a link on their desktop to access a specific website.

An.exe file will be present on the the CD (a zipped or stuffed .swf that will runs a short teaser- the a get URL to the web address). Problem is, I want the .swf to be installed on the desktop for future use, but without the user having to do anything. In other words, silently beneath the Flash player.

Any ideas? Anything would be much appreciated!

Can anyone tell me how can I get that sharp pixel edge to buttons and other little icons? I have seen it quite a bit. egomedia have a similar look.

IF you look at all there icons they have that sharp edged pixel look.
Also go into the exec showcase and have a look at the buttons in there.
I'm trying to find other sites with this but I think this one demonstrates what I want to achieve.

As you know, some websites have flash icons of some popular companies on there website a required program, plug-in like macromedia flash, internet explorer, shockwave, etc etc. On this site http://www.special-air-service.org/ it has a intenet explorer icon, flash icon and another icon..and I wanna know how that was done..the flash icons, how was it done.

Hey guys,

I am working with the data grid component in flash 8 and i was looking for tutorials online that will help me get data from a database into the cells on the data grid. Well i found an example online and i figured out how to get the data in there but now i want to be able to have those icons/images clickable within the data grid. When someone clicks on the icon i want them to be able to pop up a window within flash (in my case it will be an attached movie). Can anyone help me with this problem?
