Importing Quicktime Movies
Any help with these particular video embedding problems would be great:

1) My Flash movie has a long delay before starting the first scene, even though the scene containing the QUicktime comes later (probably b/c of the mov file size). I tried re-compressing but problem remains. Is there any other way so that my Flash plays without the long delay?

2) The audio is out of sync with the video.

3) The Quicktime clip plays even when moved to another scene (you can hear the audio in the bg) almost as if there is a button on the next scene that is somehow "triggering" the trailer to start again.

Anyone who has some great tips for importing Quicktime trailers into FLash, I would appreciate any help.

Whenever I import a quicktime movie into flash it is fine, however when I alter the brightness and contrast etc, it distorts the top 5% of the movies so there is a band across the top where all the colours are all altered.
any help would be great.

i've been having a problem importing quicktime movies- the movie doesnt show on the stage. all that i get when i import a movie is a white screen (but with the sounds of my movie). so the problem is with the visuals. can anyone help me with this?

Importing Tga's Via Quicktime
I have just got a new pc so I just installed Flash MX and Quicktime.

I assumed that the import via quicktime option would work ok for tga's.. But it doesn't work.

Does anyone know why it's not working?
Do I have to set something up? I dont remember doing anything last time.

i am trying to import a quicktime movie into flash and still have the FLAmov. be interactive (i.e. working buttons & frame actions). I have improted a quicktime with a frame rate of 12fps (same as FLAmov.). It shows up fine on the stage, however, when i try to publish, export, or even preview the movie, the quicktime movie (i think it is a link by default) doesn't show. I'm certain that my actionscript is correct because it shows correctly in the Debugging window. I don't know if i need to make a preloader or something for the movie to show. the quicktime isn't very much memory (800Kb).
What do i need to do?

I use flash mx 2004, and i have quicktime 6.5 installed. when i import a quicktime movie it works all fine, except i get no sound.

I did a fly through presentation in quicktime. Complete with scroll bars etc... I would like to import it to flash so i can make it more interactive. But when I do, it just plays from 0-to the end of the movie without any controls or anything.

Anyone know how i can import quicktime movs in flash without losing their interactivity?

Importing QuickTime/AVI Drops Frames W/ Bad Compression
In XSI I created a simple movie of beveled glass letters pivoting over a background, which I've imported into Flash. The problem I'm having is that on import, Flash drops 60% of the frames. I simply can't get Flash to import all 10 frames, I can only get 4 of them no matter how many frames I have active on the timeline.

Secondly is the compression factor. The 4 frames of the 640x250 movie compresses to 315KB, exactly the size of the QuickTime file I imported. I also tried a single still frame at 1000x400 which compressed to 36KB in Flash. That addes up to 60% more pixels, so at 640x250 it should be about 15KB per frame. Also note that the background never changes, so there should be more compression possible by cutting out all of the pixels that don't change between frames. So I'm think that based on that 36KB figure, I should be able to get the whole movie at 640x250 for around 100KB, if I take all he frames into PhotoShop, cut out the pixels that don't change and then import each frame to it's own keyframe by hand.

If I have to that is what I will do, but what a hassle of a kludge! And if I went to do anything more involved it would turn into a real nightmare. What am I missing here?

P.S. I would just put the whole thing on a web page as a QuickTime movie, but I want to be able to iterate backwards and forwards through the movie rather than having a discontinuous chop at the repeat, or a doubling of the size to get the back and forth effect.

I've been working on my production site and I can't post two Quicktime files with sound.

I'm using spark and I hear the audio when I preview them. When I try to embed them into a .fla to create a .swf file the output doesn't have any sound.

I'm made sure the sound was sampled at 22.050Hz. I tried inputting the sound separately, still nothing.

I realize I'm new at this, but please can I have some advise?

What I don't get I have two films (QuickTime files) with sound on the site.

I did the same for the other two, no dice.

It's pretty weird caus some movies simply do what i want when i import them u have a video with audio etc. But some videos when imported the screen is white, and I only hear the audio. I cant figure out what the problem is, for as far as I know the quicktime movies are all the same.

Is it possible to have Quicktime VR movies embedded in a Flash movie, and if so hows it done?

I tried importing a .mov file into flash but it didn't want to import it. If not in Flash is there a better way to display Quicktime VR movies, or is it worth just having them as a seperate download?

HELP Quicktime Movies...
I'm producing an swf file to be played from a DVD, never has to go near the web. The quicktime movies which need to play within the file are 120mb upwards. When I embed them into the flash document everything grinds to a just saving a simple change takes around 15 minutes.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to make things run a little faster?!

I recently converted some flash files to quicktime movies and was surprised how large the file grew. In some cases from 948 kb (in the swf file) to 44 mb in the Quicktime movie. Is this due to the compression settings and also, is it possible to reduce your file size or keep it the same when converting from Flash to movies.

Well I have a couple books on flash and they just aren't giving me all the info I need about working with quicktime too. I'm using flash version 5. I have an intro to a site that sandwiches two 3d animations and then has type and vector effects from flash in the middle. Idealy I wanted just to publish it and have the .swf file displayed in the html page to just play like a normal flash movie. The quicktime movies i imported to flash are not showing up. If i publish the file as a quick time movie it works how is susposed to, althougth the file size is enormis.

Anyone have any tips for me?

Also I would like to have preloader on that but I know quicktime doesnt' support a lot of complex actionscripting. anyone have any ideas on this either?

Thanks for looking. I am having difficulty displaying my portfolio of films with quicktime in flash. I am not trying to embed my movies into my site, I am trying to just have a person click a link that says "play" and then the quicktime player comes up and plays the movie. I use the "getURL" code and type in the moviename.mov when i export and test the movie it does play but it brings up a internet explorer browser and seems to embed into an html page their. Its just white with the movie in the middle. How do i get it so that the browser never comes up and the movie plays in a standard quicktime player. I am using flash MX and normal quicktime. Any Ideas?

do i have to bring in all 10 .mov into flash (hope not)?
or do i ftp them?
or do i use an action?
or is it html (which i dont know how to do)

can anyone suggest the best way to display vr movies over the web.
for some reason i can't embed a quicktime vr movie into flash, and having the quicktime movies as standalone means a lengthy download for the player(don't know why quicktimes player is now 11meg!!!).
otherwise can anyone suggest alternative vr software??

But, how would I go about making a option to see quicktime movies from my website.i.e when a user goes to the motion/film section he/she can press a button which brings up a quicktime movie with the quicktime controls on it, like you see on some websites.

Hello

I'm attempting to place a Quicktime movie into Flash 5.

So far I have imported the movie, I have set the frames to reflect those of the movie, and I have created a working transport that allows me to play, stop and rewind the movie.

All of these functions work within the Flash environment as a .FLA file. I can play the movie and see it working perfectly, just like I want it.

However, when I publish my Flash movie as a Quicktime movie the video does not show up.

I tried publishing it as a .swf even though I have read that I must publish it as a Quicktime movie - and the movie still does not show up. Not even the first frame of it appears.

Does anyone have any solutions?

i'm building a simple frame label navigation website in flash. i can't figure out how to have a button activate a quicktime movie. it's a simple post production clip i worked on for my demo reel. i've figured out how to link an audio file to the "down state" of my buttons, but can't figure out how to play a short movie clip. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Loading Quicktime Movies
I am working on a major project for my college. I am pretty much done with the project. The part I have saved to do for the end is loading movie clips into the Flash document. I loaded 48 videos and for each one I embedded it into a MovieClip, resulting in 48 movieclips. The problem I have come across is the videos sound is not supported by flash. I have done the video files in iMovie (would have rather used Final Cut or a better editing program) and then exported them as Quicktime Movies. I don't know what I have done wrong.

One option I have come up with, which would massively cut down my file size is having them link and open in quicktime. Is this possible, and how would I go about doing this. I am not sure if I just use the regular getURL tags in action script.

If anyone out there can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Preloader For QuickTime Movies?
Is it possible to use Flash as a preloader to a QuickTime video? What I'd like is to have a preloader in Flash that tracks the download of the video (which is in .mov format) & counts up systematically. Once the video file's download is complete it should then play it in the same window, using QuickTime. Any advice or suggestions on this are greatly appreciated - thanks.

Linked Quicktime Movies

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with Linked Quicktime Movies. Ive read the tutorials on the Macromedia site, as well as the help file but they really dont answer "how" to make linked files work.

Basicly I perform all the same steps as an embedded file, except when it comes to publishing. Under the HTML tab I chose Quicktime, and under the flash tab I chose flash player 4 (anything above flash 4 gave me an error).

When I press publish I get a notification about my HTML and new tags, then when I run the HTML file I get a plugin error (yes I have the newest Quicktime).

Sooo.. Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong? Or direct me to a good precise tutorial?

If I could embed quicktime in flash and got some replies saying that yes it was possible by having it as exported jpgs and then make it into separate .swf and loaded etc etc.

Questions With Using Quicktime Movies & Flash
I have this quicktime animation that I want to play by linking it through flash. (Keep in mind this isn't for the internet - yet - but just an interactive cd for now).

If I import the .mov into flash, then publish everything into a quicktime movie the resulting .mov goes a LOT slower than the original quicktime. Is there another way around this? I'm doing this because I want to have a link in my original .swf file to open up another window with my quicktime animation (and have my own play/pause/stop buttons).

The other question would be: How do u script a quicktime .mov into an html page? The html page that flash makes along with the .mov doesn't seem to be working right for me. I'm sure this is all pretty simple I just can't get it to work correctly.

In the end, basically i want to have a link that javascripts open another window that plays my animation. ANY help at all would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there! After some nights of trying to play a Quicktime Movie in a Flashwindow, I gave up. Is there somebody who can help me to bring this f..n movie selected from the playlist in the tv screen above, take a look at http://www.nachtwerk.tv . The problem is, that my QTplayer seems to need an extra plugin to view this movie or to convert it, but I´ve allready downloaded the latest Player Ver. 6. from apple.com - not better than before! Do I need the Director?
