Flash :: Instructions For Creating A Textbox With Links In Mx2004

Links Within A Textbox?
I have never seen this done, that I know of, so it might not even be possible. But I have created a flash website with a dynamically loading textbox, which pulls text from a text file. Within that text file there are possibly at times going to be links. <a href="blah">Blah</a>. I've set up my dynamic textbox to read HTML. It works like a charm. If you click a link, bam opens up exactly what you wanted. However, some of the links within the text will be to other pages within the same site. I'm using one swf for the entire site and a movieclip for the navigation that when a button is clicked on a different text file loads. So how is it (if at all) possible to make a text/HTML link within Flash either A) go to another frame, B) go to another scene, C) load a movieclip or D) change the variable that represents which text file to read from.

For example, if I have Click Here to view the Calendar of Events as a text link within a body paragraph in my movie, where would I put the Calendar of Events (separate frame, separate scene, nowhere) and how would I call it by just clicking on the link.

I have a dynamic textbox of which render as html is selected.I am passing the link from php to flash.

Problems:

1. I have to pass a link which includes the char "&" and this causes problems.(Ex: index.php?go=1&show=3)

2. I wand the text to be alined at center but i couldn't figure it how,choosing aling center at flash does not work. Also i tried to pass the variable including the <center></center> tags but no use.

The info it pulls will be a list of individual names... and each name will be a link in flash that will target an internal MC to load different content into it (i.e., another .swf.)

I'm guessing this may not be too difficult (?) - but I haven't done it before... anybody have any suggestions or perhaps template file for this?

Dynamic Textbox Links Unstyled
Hello,

I have created a dynamic text box that is HTML enabled and I import text to it from a .TXT file. Everything displays correctly: tags are bold, tags are italic and <a> tags link to another webpage.

My problem is that when I use an <a href> the link looks like the rest of the text instead of being underlined or blue or some sort of link delimiter.

I would love to use CSS but alas, I only have FlashMX, not MX2004.

Does anone know how to make these links into obvious-looking links?

PHP Links As Result In Flash8 Dynamic Textbox
Hi to all. I'm user that is able to make some good things using PHP 4 (version 5 is not interesting for me yet). After some time I saw many nice Flash based web site and I got idea to make Flash menu which is able to show results from PHP code. I wrote PHP code that read active directory and show files (PDF) as links in order to be selected and opened. I tested it and working fine but when I each link transfered by variable to Flash there it presented together with HTML formatting codes, without any presence that they are links! I made this textbox like dynamics, put code, activate option HTML and multi line but result is completely different! I tried and tried... and gave up. As last destination in my research I decided to try to find out here possible question. Thanks in advance to everyone. If someone need PHP code for better understanding I could show it and other things from Flash.

Not Opening Links In Dynamic Textbox Pulled From LoadVars()
I have a collection of text files that I am pulling out of to generate text for a dynamic text box. It reads the files and the formatting properly. When there is an html link (<a href......) it won't let the link work. The cursor turns into a hand and acts as if there is a link. If I right click on the link it gives me the options to Open, Open in a new window, or copy link. If I copy and paste the link, it works. Whenever I just single left click on the link, nothing whatsoever happens.

Below is a segment of the text file that I am trying to pull. Reminder, it prints the text fine (it does not print the html code)
<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx" target="_blank">Microsoft Windows Defender</a>

I have tried with and without the 'target="_blank"' with the same results.

I am at a total loss, and facing a deadline. Any ideas?

Hello, hi I want to create a sample page for my portfolio, how do I create a scroller on something that isnt text? like another swf? Does this make any sense? To clarify a bit what I want is to be able to scroll another SWF or mc.

Error Creating Textbox With Scrollbar
I have followed a tutorial on this site to try and make a scrollable window of text and I now get an error at the point where the text should be visible on stage. Here is the error:

Symbol=window, Layer=actions, Frame=4: Line 1: ';' expected
Set Variable: "balkheight" = "200"

Could somebody please help me out here, or even better tell me an easier/better way to make a scrollable textbox. Is there a better way than this: (http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/In...-532/index.php) to get the same/similar effect? Any better tutorials? I dont care, I just need this to work.

Dear all, I am trying to program in flash and as a bit of an amateur I have little idea of how to achieve my goal.

I want to load text into a textfield in flash, break it into substrings separated by white spaces and then retrieve substrings which have the character ~ in front if them to create links with. Any idea how i can achieve this?

I need to create some links after the application has started taking data from arrays. For example, I have an array with titles:

title = ["one", "two", "three", "four"];

And another with IDs:

id = ["222","234","524","645"];

What I want is to create four links, with the data at "title" as text, and this code:

gotoAndPlay(4);
}

I don't know how can I do this, how to create the texts once the application is running and assign them the code.

When I use html in MX for making links I noticed that some of my links do not show when I am viewing the stopped movie. Then I click where it was supposed to show, then it appears.

Also, when I try to use mailto: links it runs automatically.

Help... I've been trying to find any way to get this to work and nothing has worked so far...

I have a flash website template I am modifying. I want to have text on my page with a button or a link that will take the viewer to another page (within the website) using the same background, etc as all the other pages. Like when you hit a button at the top of the page on the navigation bar and it takes you to another page internal to the website. How do I do this?? Where do I create the new page I want it to go to and how do I actionscript it to read it correctly? I've tried everything I've found in tutorials and nothing is working. I have a lot of these buttons in my website and I'm hosed if I can't get it to work...

Creating Links Dynamically
Does anyone know how to create links dynamically in Flash? I am building a site for a local band and they want to have a picture section so people can view photos from particular shows. Once the site is done they are going to maintain and add photos from different show dates. However they don't know flash so they won't know how to create a button and tell it what photos from what show to load.

I can do what I want it to do using php but they would like it to be done in Flash. Basically, I need to pull the show dates from a database or text file and then display the links for each show dynamically using an array. Once the user clicks a link, it will load the thumbnails into an empty movie clip that will also be added to the stage dynamically depending on how many images there are in the array. Then of course, once they click on a thumbnail it will display the larger image by loading it into an empty mc. How can I do this using Flash? Can it be done using Flash? Like I said, I know how to do this using php but don't know how to accomplish this sort of thing with Flash.

xml file, but I can't figure out how to make each line clickable in order to
work as a link. The code used to populate the list is:

ok, sorry for being a n00b with all of this. i've got experience with creating websites, just never with flash. i've searched through countless tutorials, sample source files and such, and yet i cannot find the answer to what i'm sure is a very simple organization problem. i'm attempting to create an all flash site (first time with flash) and have figured out the basics of the timeline, ie. creating buttons with actions that will move you throughout the timeline (gotoandplay). in other languages, i'm used to creating buttons that will put you straight to another page, say a picture page. with flash, my main page loads, and i want to have a button that takes you to another page, with pictures on it. however, i'd like to avoid making the link to another swf file, thus making the user have to wait while this new page loads. i guess what i'm asking is: is there a way to have flash load several "subpages" that will be linked to througout the site? any sourcefiles or keywords would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Can anyone advise me on how to create dynamic links within scrolling text? It is my thesis and I would like to link to images and movies from within the scrolling text based content.

Problem Creating Download Links
I have done a fair bit of searching for this, but not getting anywhere.

I am working on a Flash site where there is a section for downloading files.
2 of these are MP3 and one is a video file [wmv in this instance].
When the user clicks on the link, however, they all start to play in the browser or Windows Media Player, whatever the default media-player happens to be.
What I want is a direct download.
Is there a way that I can just have the files download to the users desktop without playing?

Please halp if you can. It's driving me nuts!!!

we want to display the dates and titles of the press releases in the flash website. clicking on a title will launch an html popup containing the news story. how is it possible to control the dates and titles using the php admin and have it display in the flash?

Hi, Iwas wondering f anyone has any help/solutions to the following problem?

I have a page of text in a dynamic text box, and have added a simple up/down scroller to it.

At certain points of this text I would like to place a link that would either jump to a new scene or load a movie onto the existing canvas.

The problem I am having is creating the button to do this and making it scroll up and down with the text.

For example here is a chunk of text:

Where i have ref1 I would like to create a link (either txt or graphically) which would scroll up/down with the text.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Creating Links Within A TextArea Without HtmlText
I've searched and haven't found info on this, so forgive me if it's been touched on before.

I'm creating a website that loads different content into a single TextArea depending on which button you press. The TextArea's appearance is controlled using the SetStyle method. However, to for this to work, it looks like the TextArea's "html" parameter needs to be set to "false."

No big deal, except for one button's contents, I need to include hyperlinks, which don't work with "html" turned off. Is there another way to create hyperlinks that would work with this setup? Or is there a better way to control the TextArea's appearance that doesn't require turning off the "html" parameter?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Trouble Creating Links In Flash 8
I just started using Flash 8 and i am having an issue making links for some reason.

i have the button all setup and i put in the script

and for some reaon when i try and test out the link in my browser it gives an error message and the address bar reads

i tried putting in http:// and that didn't work either.
