Dear Sir,
I cannot understand which is the difference between a scripting language(like actionscript or applescript) and a programming language (like java or C++).
I know that actionscript 2.0 is similar to javascipt. so it must be a scripting language.
but actionscipt 3.0 is most simmilar like java or C++.
so why it is still a scripting language?

Language Help In Flash
My mp3 player doesn't display languages other than English correctly. They all come up in a "[]" box, (except more of a square, and a full box)

I've uploaded a song in swedish, and the title is swedish, so I want to type the title using the swedish characters: "å ä" ect, it doesn't work.

Flash MX Programming
I've got a function that looks like this:

function clickit(arg){
if(arg==item1){
textbox = ("Welcome");}}

Under the textbox link the following:

asfunction:clickit,item1

However, when item1 is clicked from a list, it refuses to show the text. I believe the problem lies in if(arg==item1){, because if this line is removed, along with one of the } at the end, the textbox does exactly as I would like it to, however, there are multiple things in this list, which is why I used an argument. I'm totally boggled at this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Flash Programming?
Hello, got a question.

I have simple flash graphic of a shock. There are two parts, the upper and lower parts of a automobile shock. I have it animated so the lower part, the piston, compresses and rebounds.

I would like to program the shock to compress/rebound in accordance with data generated from a database to a dataset, preferably compatible with C#/.NET

I am not to experienced with this and I am looking for any advice before making any decsions on what's next. Is this something worth doing in conjunction with flash where the programming and actionscripting are integrated, or should it be totally programmed outside of flash?

for that i use String Panel and Dynamic texts.

in the help it is written the following thing to have a custom control on language selection.

Help About Chinese Language In FLASH.
I want to do like this in text zooming animation in a dynamic textfield.

Inside in the movieclip have another movieclip with insName of textclip consisting the dynamic textfield representing the variable "text".

here is my bodycode in the parent clip:

If I put a value in English text that would be working but if i put chinese it is not working. WHY?

Flash Player 10 Ui Language
Hi all long time no see.

Ive just installed flashplayer 10 debug v. and now Im really pissed, all the errors etc. are in polish. Yeah, not that i wouldnt know it but i cant get it sometimes what IS the error I read. Ive searched a bit, but with no result.

Maybe someone know how to force installing ( or change afterwards ) flashplayer ui language to english ?

Flash Programming Question
I have a flash intro for my web site. The intro plays and will then open up to my html site on the same domein name. Do I need a non flash html page that this intro uses geturl at the last frame to then link to or will the flash close out and open my html site once the playback ends?

I'm a designer (collective sigh) and really want to get to grips with scritping and programming so I don't have to keep bugging everyone else! Flash 8 Programming Difference
Hi all,
I am taking a Flash class at college and I have a Q that has been bugging me for a while, I did some actionscript coding, My problem is what is the difference in coding for flash player 7 and flash player 8. The code I typed in (see below) for a project works just fine in flash player 6-7 but every time I try to set project for player 8 and test it, No matter what the text input is, it will always go to the last action in the script, in this case it will go to frame label "wrongInput" Also I was doing a math function in a similar project and used a simple code like
myAnswer = input1 * input2; and that equasion works just fine and displays the proper answer in player 6-7 but run it under player 8 and you get answer NaN, Can anyone explain what we have to do different for coding for player 8 as I enjoy some of the extra features that 8 has such as the anti-alias for readablity and some of the other features 8 has. Anyhelp in clearing this up or providing sript examples for player 8 would be greatly apperciated..

A Career In Flash Programming
Hi all,

I'm a total noob at Flash, and have a few burning questions waiting to be answered :

1) In order to be a good and professional Flash programmer/designer(possibly even a Flash freelancer), do we need to be able to draw cartoons and graphics?
I can mix and match colors to a professional level, but I've problems drawing even an apple.
Should this stop me from being a professional Flash guy?

2) I've read that you can use Flash to create web applications with PHP.
This is one field which I desire to become a freelancer in.

In cases where Flash is used to create web applicatons and PHP is used to provide the actual functionality, does it mean that we can bypass the CSS(Cascading Style Sheets) part?
(that is, using a HTML page to host the Flash-PHP application without any CSS, since we're relying entirely on Flash for the pretty GUI)

I've just currently gave up CSS even though I overcame the learning curve quite easily. Reason? Because CSS just isn't reliable and looks differently across different browsers on different OSes and has limited functionality. I already know HTML, and so.....is it a good choice to learn Flash and PHP, skipping the CSS phase?

I'm quite lost in this area and would need lots of advice.

3) Lastly, I don't seem to have seen any major web applications created in Flash and PHP. All I've seen so far are written in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, not Flash and PHP. Can anyone direct me to some samples?
I'm looking to becoming a freelance Flash web applications developer(not Flash games). Need advice on this too!(is it profitable, is the future gloom etc.)

I am currently using Flash MX and am wondering if anyone can suggest to me a book which teaches the basics of game programming using Flash MX? I'm very interested in programming a few small games but have very little flash experience (Biggest thing I have done is make a simple flash website). New To ActionScript/Flash But Not New To Programming ;)
I'm fairly advanced programmer. I have the basic knowledge for OO design and have experience with it. However, I would like to learn flash/actionscript further. I would like to learn flash/actionscript in a systematic process. I don't need to start from the basics but I can review them as it doesn't hurt.

Would like to get knowledge in the advanced stuff such as components, loadvars,etc... and how flash/actionscript really works underneath the skin. Any critical specification for actionscript/flash. I am also looking for a complete API I have an e-book containing the flash action script classes but it is not that detailed nor complete.

Is there any sites or tutorials anyone recommends? Or books?

I work on a greater Web-Application (...by the way it's a Winamp in Flash) and asked how i can make a really structured and extensible Application. Now tried to wrote some Classes but that's harder than i thought... not all can be managed with these. Now i think i have a really bad mix between structure and spaghetti code
