Flash/XML Doesn't Update On Website?
Please help!
I'm working on a school website and have a 'Stop Press' panel on the home page which is used for breaking news e.g. School Closed Due to Snow....
The home.htm file contains a flash insert to do the animation which in-turn is supplied with the news announcements from an XML file. The administrator updates the news in the XML and then uploads to the site.

Now the problem...
Whereas all htm files uploaded to the web server usually take effect immediately, the XML doesn't. Users of the web site report all sorts of delays in seeing the new information. I can see from my FTP program (Dreamweaver) that the xml is PUT onto the site but it has an erratic delay (sometimes hours!) in getting into the Flash program?

Strange - How can my Browser (IE7) affect the web server file?
I find that if I open the XML file on the web server (by writing it's address directly into the browser address bar), I see the OLD version of the XML.
However, if I then click my browser REFRESH button, the XML file on the server updates and is then available to the flash program on the home page and all is well (at least in my browser)??

What Cms To Update .txt Files For Flash Website
hello,

i built a flash web-site for a client and he wants a cms so that he can easily update and make changes to the site .. I looked into cms and i found the page publisher from Interactivetools that I liked. However they said that its better to use with html pages than update txt files.. Does anybody have a suggestion for a good cms that updates .txt files? Maybe a open source solution (is not a must though ... )

I'm creating a store map for a company that
is updating at least once a month their list of
current stores. And they want to be able to update
the map on their own, but I have no idea on how
to make it easy for them (not knowing flash) to do
the following:

1.Add another store name.
2.Add the corresponding address and picture.
3.Add the corresponding store map.

So my question is:
Is there any program that lets user update their data
and pictures without messing with flash?

I wonder how do they update their text info? and how they pull the text info from blog or text file in flash. Are those involved database programming? Or other programming languages?

Ive been asked to make a website showing the pro's of using solar energy - so im tryin to make a flash site with a sun in the center of space, with a glass box around it! basically, id like each page of the website to be on the side of the glass box:

ok, so i have made and rendered the scene in 3dmax. i then exported them as Jpgs and imported them into flash. I now have 4 movies in flash (1 with just the sun animated, 1 left turning box, 1 right turning box and 1 intro scene).

Im just not entirely sure how to connect the movies together and to trigger each webpage with each box turn! Id like to have just two navigation buttons (left and right)

If someone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreicated!!!

My problem is this:- I want to know how to load a seperate flash movie into my main website start page(basically to save on loading times and large file sizes).I also want to know how to make the seperate flash movie a certain size and to be loaded into a specific location on the main start up page.

Full Flash Website
I am having a HUGE PROBLEM. I noticed before that you can really load anything into flash when its in the website. But if you look here.

Just the SWF file, that gets loaded.

As you can see it loads the pictures fine.

But here.

It doesnt load the pictures just fine.

How can I fix this without makeing the picture viewer on the main flash?

I have some reasonable animation skills with Flash MX and want to improve my knowledge of Flash. I'm looking to create a practise full flash website, with preloader and all flash pages, like one of those really fancy ones you see out on the web.

I'm not looking for step by step help from anyone here as I have a lot to learn but I would appriciate any links people have to tutorial sites that deal with complex, full flash websites.

Hi,

I have a question regarding a full flash website. There are some methods to create the pages of a full flash website, one is my favorite, with loadMovie method. However, I still find flash website is heavy to be loaded with loadMovie method, and there are always a lot of swf files. Another way is to view in different frames in a swf. Thus, there will be less (or only one) swf's than with loadMovie method.

Then I would like to ask anyone who has experiences with full flash website. Is it better (lighter) to use loadMovie, or frame, or other methods? Or doesn't matter?

Easy AS Question About Full Browser Flash
I got my site pretty much complete and I'm having one problem. When the site first loads, the objects aren't in their correct position.

After I resize it and resize it back it's fine, but it's not putting everything in the correct place on the initial loading of the page. I'm not sure why it's happening, but I've been staring at it for days trying to figure it out.

I am looking for a small flash website tutorial that covers biulding a flash website from begining to end. I have a tons of flash 4 and 5 books but they keep making my head spin. It seems none of them actually show you how to make a simple flash website from begining to end. I just want the basics of a easy flash website which tells how to do it.

i mean my website is build by fully flash mx, so when last night i try to put online and test the loading speed, i found out is terible, cannot load at all,i m using 56k modem, so mean that my movie file to big, right??but my swf file just only 338kb......but this file is sill using the 1st method, i mean everymovie in one file,i didn't separent the movie into sub-movie1 or sub-movie2, so beside using the loadmovienum to load movie from another file, is that any others method or script can really speed up the site????cos it really take tooo much time to loading.......

Full Website Flash, Tutorials?
I wish to design a simple yet dynamic website, made entirely in flash.

Keep in mind to Flash i am a complete nub, however i wish to have a nice simple, and most importantly, clean website.

Can someone give me some tutorials for doing said thing? Dynamic News is a must, i wont need something amazing.. hell even loading my news from a simple file and displaying the last 5 posts or something would be enough. But learning to have an input field (restriced by an admin section) that simply writes to a file, then the home news section reads that, would be awesome.

But aside from that, just simplicity is all i need, html formatting is a must, parsing my own format would be awesome (bbcode for example).

*edit* Oh, and i just remembered. Also, iv got to get a good understanding of how to control the loading sequence to load parts of flash and not others. Ie, loading page to load the main small sections, then a loading section to load content if they click on it. I do wish to learn all this, not just use copy components, and its a bit diff than c++ (mostly the odd timeline sequence gets me lol), but i am more than willing to learn

Full Flash Website Problem

I currently working on my first Full-screen flash website.
My problem isnt how to make it 100% flash.. that was pretty easy.
The problem is how I should be able to define where the footer is on the layout. Like have I done it now is that I just used: width="100%" height="904px" in the object. This have been working good.. then we are able to scroll down to the bottom of the website for users that have resolution < 1280x1024. However if a user with 2048x1538 enters the website it will look like this:

Creating A Full Flash Website.
Hello, I am new to Flash, well, somewhat. I know how to do the basic things, but I have never messed around with Actionscript, or anything like that. What my goal is, is to create a personal website for myself in all Flash. The problem is.. I don't really understand how to link all my FLAs together, and I am not really sure on how to create all of the animations I want. I mean, on sites like 2advanced, did they actaully motion tween all of those animations when the page loads, or when you click a button for a different page? Full Flash Website - Switching Pages?
Just getting started with AS3 (i'm a designer, not a programmer) so obviously I have all sorts of issues when it comes to creating flash sites. This time around, it's even more difficult because i'm using some AS3 slideshow components so i'm being forced to learn basic AS3 to put together a regular website.

My question is, how do I switch between the different pages of my website? For instance, in the olden days I would be able to lay out my timeline and simply use the gotoAndStop commands. However, to my understanding AS3 cannot be separated along the timeline like that. So how do I tell flash to remove the current MC that is displayed and replace it with the new page when a button is clicked?

Any help would be appreciated, maybe a good tutorial on the subject?

I'm working on a website and it is constructed in dreamweaver with three html frames, problem is, I want it to scale to fit different screen sizes. Two of the frames are flash and the header is just a title bar really.

I can get it to work fine without scaling, but when I start scaling thing everything gets nutty.

AS Versus Timeline For Full Flash Website?

I have a question on Flash structure "best practices". I am wondering which is the best way to go about designing a full website in Flash. I have seen the tutorials provided by Kirupa and others, but nothing answers the question I have.

My question is this: How do I combine what I can do in actionscript and use the Flash timeline also? Or should I even try to combine both?

Ideally, I know we should use actionscript to design Flash pages, using CreateEmptyMovieClip, etc. That way the pages are truly dynamic using external images and xml files, and the entire Flash movie is only 4-5 keyframes. However, I cannot accomplish all the tasks in actionscript.

I can do many things using Actionscript, write functions, tweens, filters, etc. But obviously I cannot do everything. Many things I want to do are easier using the Flash timeline. For example, a navigation bar which slides in from the outside once the entire page loads. I know the AS to make the nav bar slide in and out, but I cannot use AS to draw the nav bar in the way I want it (two layers of buttons with a line in the middle).

What is the best way to go about designing a site in this manner? Should I use the first few keyframes for the things I can do in AS, such as loading global variables, loading external data, etc. Then use regular Flash animation tools (keyframes & timelines) for the rest?

Or should I spend the time and try to figure out everything using AS and not use the timeline?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, people. Well, I know that my english not is so good, but let's go! I just don't know if it's the right place to talk about my subject

Recently I was planing a website using Flash. OK, nothing special to talk about this here lol, but I was thinking about to make it real dynamic.

I studied some possibilities, working with interaction between the loaded content (through PHP, XML, MySQL,... don't matter), the Flash "shell" and the browser.

I'm on a stage where I have this working (except by using this source of contents), but now I'm a little confused with the concept of the project.

Example: my first SWF it's the "shell" of the website, with the top information/content, a menu and the first loaded content (may be the... start.swf, ok?). Nothing special yet, just a preview of the website content.

Following the process, the menu load some other SWF's. Each one have an specific height (what suggest the amount of text, images, etc...) and I have the resize of the DIV where my "shell" is, giving me a nice scrollbar at the browser

This idea of a flash project seems to be fake for me, just because I say the size of the loaded content, but I'll ignore this now. "The sun climbs up" and I'm loading my "dynamic" contents there.

Now, try to figure what would be load on the shell real dynamic content, from a database, PHP script, XML,... whatever, and load some dynamic 'sub-contents' of this dynamic content,...

No, I'm not going crazy (yet!), I'm just looking for some comments about this concept of project, the usability, the accessibility and if would be possible to have a website really dynamic.

Full Flash Website Does Not Load Into Right Size
If you go to www.alessiodacol.com and then enter you will see that the website appears to be loading until a few seconds and you just see a small white box no bigger then a small bottle top in the centre of the screen. I don't know why this is... any suggestions?

Motion Tweening An Mc In A Full Flash Website.
hello all

i have a little problem... I am doing a full browser flash website for the first time. So i have a few mc's, some are aligned bottom right, another one left, etc...
Now here is the problem, on the main timeline where the mc's are, if i want to add a motion tween to an mc (for example make it appear from alpha 0 to 100%) it wont work.

Is it because i have actions that are telling the mc to stay right aligned whenever you resize the window, that you cannot add motion tweens to the mc's?

I hope you understand my problem.

I would like to prepare a full flash based website for a friend
with a menu line and contents pages that could me modified by him easily depending on what he wants to display on his website.

Flash Website - Size Small Would Like Full Screen

Using Flash CS3 a couple of questions.
1. Flash Website Templates-Size.
Is there a way to adjst the size of the Flash Template Website.. Why is Flash always smaller than Front Page Websites.
I have seen some Flash Sites that do take up the whole screen, but most of the templates I deal with are half the size.
Is size adjustable in a premade Flash Template???? If so where can you adjust the size to make it full screen?Text

2. Flash CS3 Timeline Window
Where do you adjust the length of the the Flash Timeline Window. It seems like everytime I load a Flash Doc the Timeline only shows 5-8 frames instead of 30-50 frams so I can see the whole movie...How can I adjust the length of theTimeline Window?
So it always opens and shows all of the Flash Frames not just the first 3 seconds.

3. Flash Website Template
When Editing a Flash Website Template do I only have to edit the Flash Folder for the website. do I need to edit any of the PSD files, or simple question...IF doing a Flash Site just edit the Flash Folder only? No need to edit other PSD folders?

Easy Way To Update
im making a new version of my portfolio (gonna be completely different) and before i start i want to make it easier to update. right now when i want to update my portfolio (like add a new button for something new i did) i hafta open the swf for the buttons, extend the document down however much a new button will take up, untween all the buttons, and move them all down manually. in photoshop you can choose what direction the canvas is enlarged in, but in flash it seems it only goes down. is there an easier way to do this? b/c once i get a lot of buttons it will take forever just to update it once.

I've got a few idea's for some websites I want to make, including those desigend for gaming, web hosting, web design and others. I was considering making a FULL flash website, to the quality of a Template Monster template, professionally made etc etc.

Im a bit worried however that I wouldn't be able to sell it. Do you think that anyone would buy a full flash website from a forum thsee days? Flash is most definately the way forward, but alot of people complain about the lack of customisation, large loading times and difficult. also this forum, although huge, doesn't have very many people actually buying templates from the template section.
