TM Flash MX 2004 Editing With No Experience
Hi all, I design html/css websites and can create small flash files. I'm finding more and more of my customers no longer want these type sites, instead want flash. By no means can I do this for them as original. But I can edit to a certain exent. I can find my way through to edit text, but I can't figure out how to edit graphics such as images or make links. I've tried the Template monster step by step help, but it's useless. Does anybody know of any step by step graphical help I can download? Or a site with this info? Thanks all. Hope to be able to make my way into the flash site world :)

How Do I Prevent My Flash From Running On Any Site But Mine?

I hate this freaking Flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is totally horrible.Maddness!Maddness!The keys won't respond,the controls is horrid. My PC is brand new, so it can't be the PC fault if you might say so.Problems crop up like ants coming out of an ant hole. The program tells me whats the problem,but NEVER tells me how to solve it.I spent HOURS on Flash trying to figure o0ut how to solve a Freaking error.Thats ONE error.I'll never use Flash AGAIN IN MY LIFE!!!

A Friend Of Mine Is Looking For A Company To Build Him A Flash Website.
I can't really be of much help since I don't know flash. So what I told him I would do is find a company to do it. He lives in Ga and I would like to find him a good reputable talented company. Any places you would suggest? He has money to spend so it won't be a huge issue.

Line Art Looks Horrible In Flash
I copied a line art I created from Illustrator into Flash and it looks horrible. The strokes appear thicker and they loose detail in Flash. Does anyone know why this is happening and is there any way to fix this? I even tried saving the line art in eps and import it from Flash. The quality improves a little but the strokes still appear thick and it doesn't look as good as in Illustrator. Any ideas?

Friend Of Mine Trying To Make A DVD From A Huge Flash Animation........ URGENT :(
here's an email I got from a close friend and I am clueless... any help is MUCH appreciated, thanks.

Here's my problem:

I am creating a DVD for jen's soccer team in flash. You can export as an AVI
from flash and use the AVI to burn a DVD, which I have done and finished,
however flash won't let me export anything big enough to look good on
screen. I took it home last night after I got it done and popped it into my
DVD player and it looks like CRAP! I've tried increasing the exported size
but the AVIs I get when I do that are F#@%ed up.

Now, the award banquet is tomorrow so I'm stressing as to what to do. What I
think I might try is just exporting as a SWF so I can plug a laptop into the
TV, however I have a new problem! When I put the movies together to make one
long movie, the flash file is like 28,000 frames long and all animations
after 16,000 don't work. I was thinking I would just make it two movies, but
then how can I make the second movie play when the first one is done? Can I
add an actionscript at the end that says "go play next movie" or something?

I'm really pissed cuz I made up DVD cases for all the girls so I could give
them a copy and now I can't even get it to play. HELP!

Exported .AVI From AfterEffects Looks Horrible In Flash..

When I import a .AVI that I have rendered out from After Effects into Flash MX, it gets extremely distorted. The screenshot is below. I have no idea what could be causing this. I checked my AE render settings, the Flash import settings, and a few other places. If you have any idea on what may be causing this, please give me a hint.

By the way, it is AE 5.5.

A Horrible Grey Box Has Appeared Around My Flash Movies
A couple of weeks ago, a grey box appered around my flash movies and I now have to click on the movie first to activate it.
It worked alright before and suddenly it needs to be clicked before it will work.

No Flash Experience
Okay, I have a decent amount of HTML experience but love Flash sites. I'm looking to learn to do web design using Flash and am wondering if there are any VERY basic tutorials on starting a website. I've gone through all of the tutorials on the site and know that it would have to be a movie but I'm looking for a little more direction. Maybe someone knows of a good adjunct site that could help. My goal is to get into e-commerce web design with Flash. Also, could anyone tell me if it's possible to incorporate MS Access into Flash sites? Thanks for the help.

Restarting The Flash 5 Experience

I took a break from FLASH 5, but now i wanna start it up again. But this time i'm gonna start to use ACTIONSCRIPT when doing almost everything. I used to tween using the motion tween option etc...but now i will try to use actionscript to move things around and enlarge etc...

Is this a good idea or not?...Is it best to use actionscript to do things like tween and enlarge or what?

Neway, my main question is 'Where can i find a maual of some sort to help me learn ACTIONSCRIPT?

Possibly dowmnloadable?

The tutorials here are good, but i wanted a whole wad to enable me to learn the things i want easily...

Flash Media Server - Experience?

I have a quick question about FMS. Does the program run transparently on the server? I'm asking because I'm wondering if I can just upload a FLV file to the server and link it straight from my Flash app using myVideo.contentPath ="URL" and have it running or do I need to configure a bunch of things?

Anyone Have Experience With Flash Comm Server?
I'm at a loss. I've got a project that I'm trying to convert so that it works with Remote Shared Objects.

I haven't even begun testing because I can't even get the examples provided with the Flash Comm. package to function.

All the samples/tutorials provided are located in a directory of the server named "samples". In a directory named "apps" there are corresponding folders to each sample that contain the server side asc file needed to run the example.
The server side script is accessed from the client swf thru the netConnection by defining the URI property: e.g.
ActionScript Code:

When I try opening multiple instances of any of the samples provided to see if the client to server connection is made nothing occurs.

Do my client swfs need to be served from the FCS or can they live on another and reference back to the FCS?

Help And Experience Needed With Flash Build
This is such a great website and I'd like to say hello to everyone with this first post.

I've been asked to help a friend out with building a full flash site I agreed since he brought me a pint but now i realise that was foolish! lol.

Basically the site, (www.potterandmoore.com/beta) needs to be done pretty much fully in flash to get the effect the client is after since they love how fluid this site is (www.tocca.com). The site currently is done with asp.net pages with flash movies in them so there is no smooth transition between pages, another issue there is are the amount of images needing to be used and they all need to remain as high quality as possible.

I just need some advise for starters on how best to go about this project since I have about a week to get it done! eek. And after reading some of the tutorials on this site i realise how little I know about flash!

This is what needs to happen...

- They wanted a flash intro where the background flowers grow out and all the gold border, logo and picture fade in etc. how is best to get smooth effect of the floral bits growing like there is on this site (www.dormoy.ca) when you click on a link or at the top and how to keep the file size to a minimum?

- once that has done it's job it needs to fade gracefully into the next page where the floral pattern needs to remain in the background (possibly could add movement to this but maybe I'm out my depth a bit as it is?) and we find the scrolling menu, in this menu is it possible to have it scroll like it does and still have the buttons on it if it was loaded externally?

and so I can go on but I guess it's pretty obvious what needs doing as it's pretty rough as it is at the moment especially in the english classics section when you select a product and the rest of them darken - any better ideas or suggestions for that please feel free.

Also how much of the site should be done in flash since I am guessing the main section needs to be done in flash so it can have smooth transition when a link is pressed... I'm assuming from the tutorials I have read so far it will be best to do this using as many external .swf's as possible so they can all take care loading themselves in but will then be a way to has a transition effect to a page from another if they are in different swf's? (don't know if that makes sense but it's pretty late so I apologise).

Hope some one can offer advise and help me out as I don't want to let my friend down and I would really like to learn flash properly as well.

Anyone Had Experience With Forms And Flash? Simple Problem I Think

i've created a flash form that im using to send four variables to a php script.. I am having some trouble sending the
variables to the script.. In fact, i cant get it to work at all.
I have created the file

The drop down buttons are set in the movie mode which i think is correct, along with the submit button.
I looked up what action script I should use but found many different ones. I tested a couple of them out but they don't
seem to submit anything at all, the submit button isn't functioning. It's like the submit button isnt attaching itself
to the values of the drop down buttons, and then not submitting..

I tried using

On (Release)
Load Variables ("mailto:form.php", 1, vars=POST)
End On

I'm pretty new to flash and was hoping for a little help.

How To, An Idea Of Mine
Basically the idea is relatively simple. I want to have a static image of a tv (the tv itself doesn't do anything). Then, I wish to have a staticy, old-time looking show on it's screen (an effect theres a tutorial for). My question is, I wish to have the tv start out very small, and slowly/smoothly grow larger (like a zoom in). Do I have to make these two movies seperate and then place them together. Or can I create the static effect within the tv, and then make it one, so they can zoom in appropriately? Thanks.

I want to play specific sections of a movieclip that is nested inside my movie.
I have made a test .fla with a movieclip containing a red circle and a yellow circle as clips.
I have a movie clip called mask_mc which is used as a mask to reveal the contents of the yellow clip.
I have the following code in the main_mc to send the playhead inside my mask_mc to the "WIPE" keyframe.
It isn't playing ball.

Can you see what is wrong with this line of command code.

I think this is quite a simple thing, but I dont know where my error is.

Victory Is Mine
After about 2 weeks of fighting with all the possible different scroll panels in Flash, I finally made my own. The best part - it even works. Eat that stupid components.

:( Mine Is Not Workind
I have followed the preloader lesson in this fab tutorial but my totalBytes value is not piking up any data. I cannot understand why this is happening. I am (99.99%) sure that the code is correct.

If you are not familiar with this tutoral it basically preloads a MC in level 50, and on loading any other MC the the preloader animation moves through the 100 frames (1 frame per 1%)

The loadedBytes is working btw.

Preloader Script: Mine Sux
Who has a great preloder script that does the number countdown or percentage of load accomplished?
All my loaders seem to stall ( I had an image of skull that strobed till the flash was loaded ) and it seemed to hang 6-8 seconds before final load.
So I am going to the pros... who has a great preloader script I can steal?

Shape Tweening Help, Mine Goes Crazy...
Hey,

Can someone help, tell, or point me to a tutorial on shape tweening.. Usually shape tweening is easy when dealing with shapes, like making a suqare turn into a circle.. but when I have tried it with lines (making boxes) and want them to morph to smaller boxes, it turns out looking like crap... lines go all over the page before it ends in the result I want. Instead I want a smooth tween to the result I want.

Pretty much I am trying to something really similar to this movie, when you minimize and maxamize it.

Don't Know How To Make Submenu In Mine Menu Bar

Many Posts About Rollout Probs, Not Mine Tho
i did a pretty thorough search and can't seem to quite find a fix for my particular issue, and i'm having no luck using creative methods of applying the common wisdom.

1. anim with invis button inside same mc. invis button has two hit areas depending on frame.
2. up state is menu header (small hit size).
3. over state is menu unfolding animation (large hit size)
4. out state is menu falling away (not a reversal of over state)
5. i want it to play over anim completely through, regardless of user interaction (i.e., rolling over again won't restart, rolling out won't cut it short, etc.)
6. rollout needs to "wait in line" for over state anim to finish. which removing the invisbutton from the frames containing the over anim would not allow
7. (in regard to a particular element only; they can interrupt animations within other instances) no anim should interrupt any other anim in progress but should not be cancelled, only delayed until current is done; however i'm concerned about accumulation - i don't want 15 out animations stacking up while they wait for the preceding ones to finsih).

i guess 6 and 7 are kinda the same thing but i'll leave both for the sake of clarity.

A Script Of Mine Randomly Works.
This code right here makes a textbox thats already on the screen show up if you the variable is set (showtextbox). Well, it comes up when you press "A" (key "65"). Well, it also closes when you press "A". When you release "A", a variable is set but it seems like sometimes it doesnt read if you let go of the key. Can you help me fix this? I need it to close only when the player presses down A. Thanks.

Hi i am really really new to Flash so i got myself a book, works for me, and it is brilliant. Its called Sams teach yourself Flash in 24 hrs, (takes a mite longer LOL. Having seen some of the threads here it was money well spent. Oh it cost about $30. Hope it helps!

I Have The Horrible Feeling...

But I'm going to ask anyway in the hope that I am wrong.

I'm in the middle of creating a shoot-em-up game in Flash 5, but have just realised that the hit test function is a huge pile of ****e in that it works on the principle of detection via the bounding box of a movie-clip.

This will not do since my enemy fighters are patently not squares or rectangles, and neither are they nice circles, which would be easier I know.

So what I'm asking, is, is there anyway of working out collision detection that doesn't involve squares or circles?

I don't seem to be find anything on the web, so I'm not holding my breath...

Horrible Masking Bug
I have one movieclip masking another. The masking movieclip that contains the mask is empty until I use draw commands to determine what it should contain. When I test the program and it gets to this part, I get an 'illegal operation' error from the flash player, which promptly closes. Is this a known bug? Are there ways around it?

ok the site is something im working on and i just cannot figure out if its
some kind of setting or just my browser or what the problem is.
