Flash :: Is There A Difference Between 'export Movie' And 'Publish Movie'?

Hi all,

I'm having difficulty exporting my swf so that it can be viewed independently (i.e. not in an HTML document) and viewed on different machines. I view it perfectly fine, but when I want to view the swf at home, or on a MAC, initally the computer wants to open it in Illustrator and then doesn't even open the file. And I'm sure that a Flash Player is installed, but how do I detect whether a Player is installed or not? I've set the Publish Settings to "Detect Flash Version" but I don't really see that option being in use (esp since I'm not so interested in Publishing in HTML). On the MAC when the swf is trying to be viewed a message appears saying something along the lines of "authority needed to open file." I've also tried viewing the projector file, but still to no luck. Btw, can .exe projector files be viewed on a MAC?

Actually what is the difference between Publishing and Exporting and even Test Movie? I've tried viewing my .swf after all 3 methods and when I maximize the viewing window of the swf my whole movie maximizes to the dimension of the window. How do I make it so that my movie is centered?

Any help, advice to any of the questions asked above is greatly appreciated!

I Cant Export A Movie Or Publish One
I can't export a movie whenever i try to nothing happens, also i cant try to publish it it just crashes my flash, also whenever i save it and close it completely deletes most of my timeline so that all thats left is keyframe 1. can anyone help me with this please.

Hey,

I'm curious why when i try to publish as a gif it looks bonkers
but looks dandy when exporting movie as an animated gif ?

I´m not doing anything magical just a tween and alpha fade.

Everything is on the main timelin,e nothing is hidden inside
MC´s. I played around with the GIF settings in the publish tab
but it eneded up looking really bad.

Can't Do Publish/Publish Setting A Movie In Flash CS3
I installed Flash CS3 while still keeping Flash 8. When I try to publish/publish setting a movie, an alert pops up saying 'No valid HTML Templates are available to complete this operation'.

Probably there was a conflict so I uninstalled both Flash CS3, Flash 8 then installed Flash CS3 but the problem still comes up. What is that?

Export Flash Movie At 59.94 FPS - Movie Length Doubles
Has anyone experienced this issue? I have prepared a Flash animation to HDTV 720p specs at 59.94 FPS. Upon exporting to Quicktime, the resulting movie length is more or less double the flash animation length. When brought into AfterEffects, the movie is still twice the length. I'm hesitant to then do a time scale in AE - I'd rather the Flash export be exact.

Does anyone have experience with exporting Flash movies to QT at frame rates > 30fps? And have you experienced the same issues?

Can't Export To Movie / Test Movie Since Yesterday... Even Reinstalled
Hello,

I was working on a project for a few days... It all worked fine, I was able to export to flash movie, test the movie etc..

But since yesterday, I can't export to mive anymore... it asks me the file name and then the settings window appears, as usual. When I click OK, the progress bar appears and either it freezes, or I get a Windows error message pops up saying Adobe Flash stopped responding...

I even reinstalled Flash, didnt work.. I then deleted some layers , just to check if it would work, but now I got the message "flash is out of memory"... and it froze again... (i never got that memory message again)..

I'm using Flash CS3, Vista 64bit, 4GB Ram ...

Please Help

Test Movie - Export Movie
I have a movie that has two scenes. Scene 3 which is actually the beginning scene is a button that is to play scene 1 when it is pressed. I have made Scene 3 the first scene in the scene inspector, but when I "Test Movie" it begins on Scene 1 and skips the button, or (Scene 3) the same thing when I export it. I works when I enable buttons on my canvas. Any ideas? Thank you.

Publish Vs. Export
Is there any significant difference between "publishing" your flash file and exporting movie and plopping it into a Dreamweaver layout? Is it just a time saver to output HTML and flash in one shot? Will the HTML come out the same?

I've been working on this fla for a while and managed to publish/export the file as normal but for some reason it will not let me publish it anymore.

I have no idea why this is, im not a huge expert on Flash. Does anyone know why his could be?

Is there a major difference in output by publishing a Flash file versus exporting it? I was having major trouble publishing some files so decided to export instead. It seems to be fine (and much smaller files)...but I assume there is a reason to have both - any big difference or problem in doing this?

Difference Between A Movie Clip And A Tween?
I've been tweening photos, fading them in and out in different layers, but I can't figure out how to loop them all together. Each one is in its own layer and they are graphics, not movie clips. I don't understand the difference between the two? Should I have made them all movie clips instead of tweened graphics?

I have a .fla file that has many layers, three of those layers have one photo on each layer fading in and out. I want the third photo from the third layer to loop back to the first photo on the first layer. I tried actions (gotoandplay) but it would just stop the whole flash movie and start over. I know I'm doing something wrong. Maybe this has something to do with them not being 'movie clips'?

Is there any advantage exporting to Flash Player 9 over Flash Player 8 when my movie is in AS2 ?

I've heard that Flash Player 9 has performance advantages I just don't know if that applied for AS2 as well...

Flash Will Not Allow Export/publish
Hi Guys,

I've recently made a large flash movie in CS3 and i've got a problem,

The file appears to have corrupted, i've checked my backups and appears to have happened when I added the 3rd scene. I cannot export to SWF (or test the movie) nor can I publish to any format.

I've noticed that if I perform a scene test it WILL export an SWF for that particular scene but it will not allow me to do it for the full movie.

Any suggestions?

There is an image quality difference between when I view the .swf in a test movie in the Flash Player and when I view the .swf in a browser. The .swf looks fine in the Flash Player but in a browser the fonts and line images appear choppy. Why would there be a difference and how can I correct? I've tried changing the publish settings so that image quality is "best" but with no effect.

My movie in flash mx 2004 freezes in the publishing phase... It's not a huge file, nor does it have any funky file types in the library. I left it trying to publish all night and nothing. I have also tried an export but no dice. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have to publish a flv movie onto a webpage but I only have an old version of Flash MX (6.x). So, where do I find a good video player with smart streaming, fast rwd/fwd, skinnable interface, etc?

I've also tried Swish Video 3, but it doesn't import FLV files and their player isn't that good either.

Are there other options that are not too costly?

Publish Movie Bug?
Hi - I have a strange problem when publishing Flash movies using Flash 8. I live in the UK, and naturally use the UK Keyboard layout, which means among other things, that my @ key is next to my Return/Enter key. In the US, the @ key is above the number 2. The thing is, when I publish movies in standard Window mode, the keyboard layout is correct, and uses the UK layout that I have my PC set-up for. However, if I publish my movie in Transparent Window Mode, my keyboard switches to US layout, and if I need to enter an e-mail adddress into a transparent movie, I need to use the Shift+2 combination to get the @ sign, where normally, in normal Window Mode, I can use the UK Shift+' combination. I can't understand why using normal Window Mode and Transparent Window Mode should change the way my keyboard layout works! Very strange.

Is there any kind of workaround for this bug, as I need to publish a transparent movie that requests e-mail input, and most UK users do not know the US Shift+2 combo to get the @ sign.

I hope this makes sense - and hope that someone can help me on this.

Just to clarify: In Window Mode publish, Shift+' gets me the @ sign. If I publish in Transparent Window Mode, I have to use Shift+2 to get the @ sign.

If i publish a movie with file (as. 2.0) I can't upload movies with files that are as 3.0 because i tired and my movie won't load the movie right, or at least the The Script on AS 3.0...
Am I right?

Anyone Please Help Buttons-Publish(or Save Or Export?)-without The Flash Bg
I have been at tis trying to figure out how to save my button movie in my html webpage with no bacground from the flash stage since 10am and its now 4pm!! [sorry if the typing is full of mistakes -my 'h' and 'm' and 'k' keys are not working ! and im having to copy and paste them all !!

Ive tried highlighting and exporting the button image and then saving as a swf, but end up getting an empty swf file when i open it in my folder that contains my html page and if i publis it normally then the bacground in flash shows up making my button look so small - because im actually publishing the whole file not Just the button (with all its basic effects) which ofcourse is all that i need.

Ive searched the help files and tried soooo many things... notin works! Aside fro already going insane fro aving to copy and paste tese silly letters i a about to rip every air off my ead
Ive also tried the tutorials (which helped in making the button but i cant find anything in there about publishing buttons)

I know there has to be a way to do this! I see flash buttons all over the place in different sites and they dont have a hUGE white background !

Please if anyone can explain or guide me to a tutorial,

Hi im trying to publish my flash movie into an html document and I keep getting the error message:

Error creating flash movie file.

Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that thee file name is not too long.

So .. ive checked all those things.. and I know the file is not locked. So what I did is I created a new doc .. and then tried to publish it and got the same thing ..

so I closed flash reopeend .. still no success..

help !!! any ideas ?

Can't Test/publish My Movie
I don't know if any of you have ever run into a glitch like this before, but Flash won't publish a movie I'm working on. It PRETENDS to publish (window pops up, publishing..., bar fills up), but it just cans out half way through. Doesn't crash, doesn't give me an error, just stops.

The FLA is about 3.5Mb, the (potential) SWF is about 350Kb. Needless to say this is an average size file, so that's not it.

There are some very actionscript-heavy chunks in it (i.e. one movieclip with 100 lines of actionscript on frame 1 PLUS two movie clips on frame 1, each of which have 300 lines of actionscript on their frame 1s)

I've increased my page size, virtual memory, everything I can think of.

PLEASE any ideas? Any patches? Any tricks?

Movie Broken After Publish...
So I've made a clip that animates completely on actionscript. It works fine when I test it. When I publish it, *sometimes* it plays when I open it with a browser, other times it just loads up all the movie clips and doesn't play. When I try to load it into another .fla file, it doesn't play. What could be the problem?

Now I would like to know how I can publish all of them in a single exe file, as I've had a look in the "Publish Setting", it seems that I can only publish one swf file into an exe file each time. Publish Movie At A Percentage
I've created a Flash banner at 300x250. The client now wants to place this same banner on their website at 55% of the original size. I will only be providing them the swf and wondered how to publish the movie and provide them the swf at 55%? I'm aware of how to do it when publishing the html, but not the swf alone. thanks

Old Movie Breaks When I Publish In CS3
I'm working on a project for a client and I am updating some old .fla files. They have CS3 on the computer I'm working on and everything has been going fine with 10 of the 11 files that I've been working on. On the last file all I had to do was change some text in a static text box. I opened up the file in CS3 made my changes and then published, but for some reason when I test the site out the preloader hits 100% and just sits there . . .

I've checked all my publishing settings and made them the same as the other files that I worked on and as far as I know all the AS is the same (I will admit I could have missed something in the AS that is different so I'm not ruling that possibility out)

Has anyone else had a problem like this and could point me in the direction of where to look for my solution?

Help With Testing Publish Movie - F12
Sorry.. it's been a log few days and not a lot of sleep. When I hit F12 to test my work (buttons, layout, etc.), the flash pops on the screen and then disappears. I have checked my settings with the "default" settings and everything is okay there. Any suggestions on what I did wrong?

I add it in the publsh settings, but it keeps telling me that I cant. Is there something I need to buy?

I'm using Flash MX and it may be something that I'm just not used to yet, but when I publish a movie, it creates an html file, but when I open that file the space where the movie should be appears with the 'unable to load' red cross icon.
Why cant it load the movie???
all the files it should need are in the same file...
