my site is a bit to0 non-functionable.. i think i need to put some xml forum for users to coment... php cannot be formatted, so i think xml forums are better.. problem is i don't know xml... (and php) can somebody help me bout that?

How To Create This Kind Of Flash Tutorials?

I am totally new to flash and want to be able to create tutorials like below:

How is this done? Through ActionScript programming or using Adobe Captivate to screen capture drawing in a paint program? I tried the latter approach but ended up with large .swf files (almost 1MB for a 1 minute tutorial). Any other idea?

Flash MX 2004 Pro - Reviews BAD
Hi.

I was thinking of getting a copy of MX 2004 Pro and read the reviews on Amazon:

They SUCK. Is this a worthless POS? Four different people did nothing but pan it. Now I'm sure the review on here is great, but how am I supposed to reconcile that?

I'll start with a book:

Macromedia Flash MX Production Techniques by MD Dundon (published by Macromedia Press)

Target Audience:
From the beginner Flash MX developer to the intermediate Flash MX developer.

Review:
Although it's written by a well respected author, I have to say this book was a let down. Overall, it's just "ok". There aren't any strong examples in the book and it's a really boring read. The paper and print quality is horrible. To me, any book that is about multimedia should be printed in color on high quality paper. Why do these books cost so much if they're not? There are things to learn in the book, but you may not make it to them, as you'll fall asleep first. I really wanted to learn some best-practice production techniques from this book, I did not. Skip this book, there are far better resources available.

Overall Rating:
I give this book at 2 out of 5 stars. Too many cons, not enough pluses.

i'm designing a site that is a mixture of flash and xhtml. i want to create a forum or message board for this site and i was wondering if this was possible in flash mx, if so can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial which may help me. i have some expereice of cgi and perl but not too much really. if not, could anyone tell me if there is a resource they know about to help me create a forum using cgi or php. i've tried a few searches but they always lead to companies offerring 'free forums' with huge banners across the page. i dont want to pay for hosting and i dont want a banner but i am prepared to do the hard work myself, jus need a few pointers.

What are these DevNet Resource Kits? Should I just budget for them? Are they just part of the relationship like the Microsoft Licensing debacle? Are they worth the money? Do I have any alternative?

Every time I get involved with Macromedia, I end up confused about what I need, what I don't need, what's included, what's extra-charge-even-though-you-need-it-to-make-the-thing-you-just-bought-work-right, etc. So, any help or opinions would be great.
