It's Taking Forever To Publish A Movie In CS3

Hi everyone,just wondering if anyone knows what the problem is. It takes forever to publish a simple movie I created and I'm just wasting time. The reason I need a published movie is that I can load it into another one, so I can't test it on its own and need a published one. The Flash just hangs there and it takes about 1-2 min to process it even though the movie is tiny. I didn't have this problem with previous versions..thanks you,Olga

Publishing Taking Forever - Why?
Hello everyone,

I've noticed that when I publish my final Flash design, it can take anywhere for 3 to 5 hours to complete the publishing process. This seems ridiculous to me. Is anyone else out there experiencing similar problems with very long publishing times?

I'm using a dual processor G5 Mac with 2 gigs of RAM - Mac OS 10.3.8. I'm using Flash MX Pro 2004 version 7.2 (the entire Studio MX package is installed on my system.

Back when I was using Flash 5, publishing took just minutes. I've been publishing a typical file today and it's been running more that 4 hours (it's still in progress right now). The computer is working fine. Other Flash designs I've created in Flash MX also take several hours to publish. My Flash layouts generally have between 4 and 8 scenes. All of the images are optimized for Flash (small index color or RBG jpg, gif or png files, 72 dpi). Nothing unusual at all.

I cannot find any information about this problem on Macromedia's web site.

Any ideas? Comments?

Thank you,
nycomet

.Fla Taking Forever To Create .swf
Hi

I'm running Flash MX 2004 Pro
I've got an 8 meg .Fla file
that spits out a 450 k .swf file (not complaining)

I've got a problem (yea yea I know, otherwise we wouldn't be here)

My Flash movie is taking 8-12 minutes to publish my .swf file.
This is very annoying considering i'm still working on the website, and i need to publish fairly often.

I have another Fla for another flash website that I'm working on, both the .swf and the .fla is 2-3 times as large, but only takes 20 seconds to publish.
I compared publish settings, their identical. I've have no extra apps running in background, fast computer high memory etc.. (As in the problem isn't my computer)

I haven't come across such a huge publish time before. (at least in my projects anyway, I once downloaded a 40 meg FLA file that consisted mostly of bitmaps etc put together for a 15 minute animation and that took a while to publish)

The problem FLA consists of:
Very few bitmaps
Mostly vector graphics
6 large flash forms. With text fields radio buttons, checkboxes. (all loaded in seperate scollPanes
10 or so scrollPanes
simple actionscript (mostly timeline control)
content loaded externall through scrollpanes
music tack loaded via actionscript on level1

Thats about it. I'm not sure whats making flash take so long. It doesn't crash freeze etc.. and its the only FLA file I have that takes so long to publish. I don't have the option to scrap it and start over. And waiting so long to publish it for testing is wastng alot of my time (I'm waiting for it to publish yet again as I write this)

Has anyone seen or heard of this kind of problem before??

Does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the publish time?

Does anyone think it could be the large forms? (if so I can load them from external .swfs if need be)

I need all the help I can get on this.

Thanks for at least reading this far

Taking Forever To Load
the website is www.vincesitalian.com
I have tested the load time and it is great however for some people it takes forever and some people "movies" just don't show up. Do i need to have some sort of option on this website that asks the viewer to get the latest version of Flash?? It seemed to load better when i updated my version. If so, how do i get the code for this?? if not, any suggestion as to what the problem might be?

Thasnk in adcvance from a newbie!! : )

Publishing Taking FOREVER
i just made a new site with flash that was one big scene, and it was publishing in a few seconds. I decided it would be easier to work with if i converted it into scenes (6 to be exact). So i did, and everything went fine, but not every time i try to publish it it take like 20 to 30 minutes. Is this standard for files with many scenes? the entire .swf file is only about 3,000 kb. This is killing me, cuz it would be so much easier to edit with scenes, but i hate waiting a half hour to check my work over. Thanks for the help.

FLA Taking Forever To Save (and Edit)
I've got a reasonably uncomplicated FLA file, a couple of megs, no audio, all vector art. It's a quiz, so there's some coding but nothing that would be considered intimidating by an intermediate Flash programmer.

The only thing in any way remarkable about the file is that I am using a single movie clip five times onscreen to represent five different characters. Different faces and expressions are called for each character in script. It's all nested movie clips. But really no big deal compared to some of the Flash work I've seen.

So the problem is, in a couple of movie clips that are a bit more complicated like that, even simple editing such as adding a keyframe takes literally ten minutes. Flash freezes while this happens. And saving the file can take over 20 minutes.

Yet exporting the SWF happens normally.

All these operations with other files happens without any problems. It's just this file.

Has anyone experienced this? I have looked online but can't find anything referencing such an issue. I'm sure it's the way I'm building the file but I'd like to know what the issue might be.

Thx D

Music Taking Forever To Load....
i finished my flash site and added some music to it but it takes for ever to load. i made sure that it is streaming. i used the code in the tutorial addind sound with action script. I have no idea what it could be. any help would be appreciated

SWF Taking Forever To Load Into Browser?
Hi all,

I am somewhat new to flash, and creating a demo that is currently about 2.5 megs. When i put it up on a server to test it outside of flash, the file takes forever to load into the browser. Shouldn't the swf load immediately, and then go at the rate of the preloader? Instead, it is as if the movie is loading to about 75 percent, then finally shows up in the browser, finishes the preload, then begins. Can anyone tell me why this is? This is obviously unacceptable for the demo. I know I have seen much larger demos that load immediately and begin the preloader. You can check out what I mean here:

http://demo.franchisehub.com/slpDemo11.swf

anyone have any clue? thanks

My Site Is Taking Forever To Load, And I Have Preloaders
hi, i am loading external .swf's into a container in my main .swf and i have preloaders attached to each .swf.... dunno why they're not working... this is the script i have on each of the external .swf:

frame1: midrame=7;

frame1: midframe=7;
bytes_loaded = Math.round(_root.getBytesLoaded());
bytes_total = Math.round(_root.getBytesTotal());
getPercent = bytes_loaded/bytes_total;
_root.loadBar._width = getPercent*100;
_root.loadText = Math.round(getPercent*100)+"%";
if (bytes_loaded == bytes_total) {
_root.gotoandplay(3);
}

frame2: gotandplay(1);

frame7: stop();

frame10: _root.container.loadMovie(_root.currMovie+"index.s wf")

can someone spot the problem or have any ideas why this is happening?? the preloader doesn't show how much is being loaded... the bar fills up and then the page goes white for a few seconds before the file loads.... see for urself @ www.kharlla.com (problem focused on partenogenesis page, tho is occuring on rootsy as well)

hope someone can help!!

thanks!

Resolved: Taking Forever To Build/compile
By taking forever, I mean to say the flash presentation takes 2-4 minutes to compile instead of 30-50 seconds.

I'm using Flash 8, OS X 10.4.3. At some point my .fla file started taking f o r e v e r to compile. I changed nothing, added nothing big. The only thing I did was add radiobutton components. I removed them. I also went throughout the document and removed all the actionscript. Nothing. I don't remember if the long compile time happened after or before the components.

The document is all vector, one font embedded throughout (Futura). The only effect is a drop shadow below a button using stepped vector objects - I could try removing this object. I'm not using an "effect" because I am targeting Flash 6.

Images are loaded via xml - not embedded.

Any ideas?

TestMovie Taking Forever To Load--Library Issue?
So I've searched and searched for an a solution to the problem of slow loading (publishing, exporting, whichever) under my circumstances to no avail, and I apologize for such a boring question but:

I'm working on a site that's really all actionscripted except for a few library items (4 fonts, a few static shapes for masking, a text box, one timeline animation mc, one png). The .fla is 250 kb or something, and then I keep actionscript elsewhere. I've knocked out my actionscript completely to see if that was the hold up and it's not. If I delete 4 or 5 library items, the thing speeds up, but I'm unable to zero in on the problem child, plus there's no way that these things should be slowing my movie down so much.

Does anyone know of a fix for performance? I'm working in Flash 8 on a pretty new G5 and not hogging any RAM with anything.

Fla Takes Forever To Publish, And To Add More Content
Keep getting the hourglass even when I am trying to add more content to this demo (keyframes, etc)

I am building this demo fla file that is about 3200 frames,
This doesn't sound really that big.
Is there anything that I can do in the project that wil make it run/publish faster.

maybe delete the symbol instances after I use them??
any suggestions.

Is 3200 frames that big?

I am sure minus a couple external swf's that a big full-flash website is somewhere around 1000 frames?---right

What should I do?

Taking Too Long To Publish The .swf
My problem: I developed a short movie in Flash MX 2004 Pro v 7.2, consisting of 6 scenes, one very similar to the other, in which only one scene contains tweened animation. Its actionsctionscript is very simple and the movie size is only 720 kb. However, when I want to test the movie or export it, it takes forever to be done; more than five minutes is my perception. I showed the .fla to a couple of people with more experience than me, and they could not find any visible problems with the code. I suspect it may be a bug in the program, but I have not found information to solve it. Can anyone give me some advice? I will greatly appreciate any help.
I uploaded the .fla in case someone wants to give it a look.

SWF Is Taking Really Too Long To Publish
Hi:

I'm working on a small flash game and I'm using AS2 Classes.
The game has virtually no artwork yet, but it takes about 2 minutes to publish, even if I haven't change any of the files. (I mention this because I understand Flash creates ASO files with the compiled classes and won't compile it again unless the .AS file is newer than the ASO file)

So, any ideas?
Which factors affect the time required to publish an SWF file?
One clue: the progress bar remains at about 95% during those 2 minutes.

Thanks,
JulianG

Taking Time To Publish
Why the movie is taking time to publish?
only one project is taking time to publish.

file....pblish preview.....html

only one project is giving problem.
Others are ok.
why is it so?

Zzzzzz-------why Is It Taking Longer To Publish?
I am working on a file that is taking comparitevely longer to publish. The same exact file was publishing quicker before.
The file is not damaged as I have lot of backups of it and they all are all taking longer to publish compared to before installing the fmx2004_7.2 update .

What could be the reason?

The only thing I did was install the MX 2004 update plus the extension manager.

I re-installed everything twice and still the file takes longer than before to publish???

Anything elementary I should know?

Can't Do Publish/Publish Setting A Movie In Flash CS3
I installed Flash CS3 while still keeping Flash 8. When I try to publish/publish setting a movie, an alert pops up saying 'No valid HTML Templates are available to complete this operation'.

Probably there was a conflict so I uninstalled both Flash CS3, Flash 8 then installed Flash CS3 but the problem still comes up. What is that?

Thanks in advance.

Stop A Movie Clip From Looping Forever?
I created a movie in Swish 2.0 of a simple text effect. ( bought Swish just for the text effects) I tried importing the .swf file which filled all the frames with one letter of the text. That was fine but it looped forever and was positioned wrong.

Ok, back to my books....

I imported it again as a movie clip. Fine again, even better I can position it correctly. BUT I can't get it to stop looping :-(

Trying action scripting (several variations from book suggestions...I am not getting it.

I want to have the movie clip run one time, stop and stay on the stage/browser window as a static element.

Can someone help?

Thanks in advance,
Terri B

Flash Movie Clip Takes Forever To Download
I have highspeed dsl and the flash that I am working on has 10 photos with fade transitions and music. I thought there was a way to have it start playing immediately while downloading in the background.

I tested with 28.8 modem (inside the tool) and it played just fine ... Is there a parameter that says start playing right away and keep downloading in the background?

Thanks, Cherie

Taking A Variable Into Another Movie On A Different Level
Gday,
I'm looking for the piece of code that will take a variable I have that is on level 0, and transport it into the level 2 to be used by the movies there. There is a seperate .swf file for each level. So far I've been unsuccessful so any help on this would be brilliant,
Thanks!

Taking Chunks Out Of A Movie Clip
I would like to take chunks out of a large movie clip using smaller duplicated movie clips.

For example: Having an apple then duplicating a bite shaped movie clip that takes bites out of the apple. Basically I want to be able to punch holes in a movieclip so you can see the background behind it.

Simply overlaying a shape over the movieclip to simulate a hole isn't enough. I need to be able to see the actual bg behind the movie clip as it will be moving and changing.

The only thing I cant think of is a reverse mask, where the mask shape hides part of a movieclip rather than revealing it. That however doesn't seem to exist.

Any suggestions? or alternate ways I could achieve the same effect?

I am really beat on this one.

Taking A Loaded Movie To Another Scene
Hi there...

got this problem with loadmovie in scenes.
I've made a flashfile on one frame, where all the actionscript is.
Our designer has made an intro and an outro scene.

the problem is that the current background of the .swf is chosen in my actionscripts, by loading an swf and going to a specified marker in it.

How can I tell flash to start the outro animation with that specific marker still loaded? What I want to do in the outro is to fade in the standard image above the current background, but I don't know how to use that loaded movie on that right frame.

Movie Taking To Long To Start
Hi!

I have a preloader that is not working the way I wanted it to be.
I have this code in the first frame:

ActionScript Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
    total = getBytesTotal();
    lidos = getBytesLoaded();
    restantes = total-lidos;
    if(total == lidos) {
        gotoAndPlay(5);
    }else{
        barra._alpha = 100;}
    porcentagem = Math.round((lidos/total)*100);
    barra._xscale = porcentagem;
    // * 2 ;
    if (porcentagem == 100) {
        gotoAndStop(5);
        delete this.onEnterFrame;
    }
};
stop();

and on frame 5 I have a MC with this code to load a sound.swf file.

ActionScript Code:
onClipEvent(load){
        loadMovieNum("sound.swf",1)
}
onClipEvent(enterFrame){
        percentloaded=Math.floor(_level1.getBytesLoaded()/_level1.getBytesTotal()*100)
        percentdisplay=percentloaded + "%"
        bbarra._xscale = percentloaded;
        if(percentloaded == 100 && !initialized){
                _root.gotoAndPlay(10);
                initialized=true
                _visible=false
                delete this.onEnterFrame;
        }
}

and I have two dynamic fields to show the percentage.One before frame 5 for the main movie and one inside that MC holding the last posted code to show the percentage of the sound file being loaded.

The problem is it is taking to long to go to the second preloader and the bars are being mixed up.

You can check it out at www.djchambinho.com please!

I need help please!

Movie Clip Problem...They Are Taking Over
I have my site which has buttons which play mc's which open up to other mc's which are different parts of the site.

A mc loads in then the buttons appear you click on the buttons and it plays a mc and goes to that section. And the button interface slides away. This is the same for each button. Now i have a button which stays on the screen at all the its like the back button. It i sment to play the original you could call intro mc and send you back to the interface.

On the button i have

on (press, release) {
tellTarget ("_root") {
gotoAndPlay("nav_intro");
}

Which works when you click it takes you to the start of everything.

This is where the problem starts, everything works fine you can press all the buttons all the mc's play like they should. Then click the back button and everythign loads in again. However, once it has loaded in after pressing the back button i have no control over the navigation when you roll over a button it justs plays the mc without any clicking. Infact when you roll over any button it just plays button1 for examples mc.
Once you have clicked that back button you loose control over anything.

Anyone have any idea what this problem is, cuase if i cannot figure it out my whole site wont work

Exporting Flash Movie - Taking Way Too Long
Hello,

I am developing my first CD-ROM, that will have a lot of video (that will play in the flash presentation) and audio (mp3).

Now that I have added some sound and video, it is taking FOREVER to export as an .SWF file. Should I somehow be linking to these files externally?? Not sure how to do that.

Thanks!

Flash Movie Taking Up Browser But Stage Not Resizing
Hi been trying to do this for a while now. I have a movie lets say 640x480 but i want things that are off the stage to be visible as well. I know you can acheive this when you go to Publish Settings>HTML and make the movie 100%w and height. But when i do this my movie stretches out of wak. How can I still have things off the stage be visible with out the design and images on the site be stretched out of proportion. have seen it done 1,000 times.. is it something i am missing in the code? a script i have to put in my movie ?!?!?!

below are some examples of what im talking about.

Taking A Snap-shot Inside A Flash Movie
I put up a crude mock-up at this link here.

The objects are draggable. The goal is for a user to drag any objects they wanted onto the area labeled "stage". Then when they are happy with the final layout of the objects on the stage, they could click the "Snap" button, which would take a snap-shot of the stage area then would send a jpeg of this snap-shot to their e-mail.

I don't know if this is even possible. If so, having someone point me in the right direction would be most appreciated as always.
