Jpeg Quality Decreases After First Frame

If I place a Jpeg image on the first frame of a movie with a stop action on it, its resolution is true to the import. If the same image is placed anywhere after the first frame (second, third, or tenth), or spans more than one frame, its resolution DIVES considerably.

PLEASE someone email me at cisium@aol.com

Big deadline. Is this a Flash bug?

Hoping,

Lionshare

Using A Preloader Decreases Image Quality?
Has this happened to anyone? I put a preloader on frame 1, and now the jpgs (that look fine when there's no preloader) look extremely pixelated. What would cause this?

My preloader code:

onClipEvent (load)
{
total = _root.getBytesTotal();
}
onClipEvent (enterFrame)
{
loaded = _root.getBytesLoaded();
percent = int(loaded / total * 100);
text = "" + percent + "%";
gotoAndStop(percent);
if (loaded == total)
{
_root.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
}

Any input? Thanks everyone!

My Preloader Decreases The Quality Of My Flash Movie
Why would my preloader decrease the quality of my movie? I know that if I take my preloader out and upload my swf file... my movie will play on the webpage just fine. But when I add my Preloader... the movie loses quality...

this is the preloading script I am using below

Quote:

total_bytes = _root.getBytesTotal();
loaded_bytes = _root.getBytesLoaded();
remaining_bytes = total_bytes-loaded_bytes;
percent_done = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*100)+"%";
percent_bar = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*100);
bar.gotoAndStop(percent_bar);
ifFrameLoaded ("Index", 1) {
gotoAndPlay ("Index", 1);
}

Why Does Flash Reduce Jpeg. Quality When There's More Than One Frame?
Why does flash reduce jpeg. quality when there's more than one frame, and more importantally is there anyway to prevent it from doing this?

Image Quality Lost, Exported At 100% JPEG Quality
I am working on a Flash website for a design group to display their work. These designs needed to be scaled down to fit the format of the website and many of these designs have body copy with small text. In the FLA file they look ok, but when I export the SWF, the text looks really bad.I know JPEG compression isn't very good for text but even when I export at 100% JPEG quality it still ends up looking different. The text looks very "sparkly" with the thins of the letters have been lost. The original assets that they gave me were all in one photoshop file at 150dpi with one design per layer and some of the text were just slightly pixelated if you zoom in (all text were rasterized and flattened into the designs). Some of the same images supposedly from that file had been used on their previous site with no problem. On some of the images in the PSD I can see that some of the thin strokes in the letters had been lost a little from scaling the designs down. This has been really frustrating and I can't think of how to rememdy this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

-Sorry I did not realize that someone had already asked the smae type of question. I am trying the suggestions from the other thread.

Cannot Alter "document-jpeg-quality" And "use Imported Jpeg Quality"?
sometimes in MX i can always choose between "use document default jpeg-quality" or "enter an integer for quality" for imported jpeg-data. (possibly jpgs generated with photoshop 6)
sometimes i can never - i just have to choose between "use imported jpeg-quality" or "enter an integer for quality".
(definitely jpgs generated with photoshop 7)

can anyone tell me why this happens?

are there preferences in photoshop 7 that solve my problem?

JPEG Quality
I'm seeing some issues with some of the JPEGs that I am pulling into Flash. When workign in Flash the JPEGs look fine when I export or publishe the project to a SWF file the image quality is crap.
It didn't do this for all my JPEGs just a couple of them. How can I keep the quality of my JPEGs when I export, or is there a way that I should be importing or setting my JPEGs within my project?

JPEG Quality
Hi,

I was in the middle of working on a flash movie, which I had already exported several times, when I noticed that the quality of all my JPEG's had been reduced.

I checked the "JPEG Quality" setting on the "Export Movie" Dialouge Box and it was set at 100, but for some reason it continues export the JPEG's at a reduced quality. They also appear this way when I use "Test Movie", but in the Flash "authoring environment" they appear at full quality.

This wasn't happening before, and I'm not sure what I did along the way to make it happen. Is there some other JPEG quality controls aside from in the "Export Movie" Dialouge Box?

Thanks for any help!

Jpeg Quality
I'm not a total newb, but I am having a very troublesome little problem.
I Am using two Jpeg images I made in photoshop for my flash movie. The images are scaled at 100% and 82.7%. However, when I go to "Test Movie" the images are very jaggy and ugly. I published, then viewed the swf, same problem. When I go to View>Fast it shows the images jaggy in the fla, but when I go to antialiased, they look fine in the fla. I want to publish this file so the Jpegs (no, they aren't GIF, which would be one reason they are jaggy) look good on the web. Any help? Feel free to ask questions of what I have done. O, and yea, I have the jpeg quality set to maximum.

Increase Jpeg Quality ?

LoadMovie --> JPEG Quality
Hi!

I'm using loadMovie to import jpg into flash.
Trouble is that jpeg quality that loads in is low,
so white background becomes yellow etc...

Can I handle jpeg quality on swf import or export?!?

Thanks in advance

JPEG. Quality In FLASH.
Question:

I work in photoshop to save all of my images for the web,
by the **save for web** option.

I am on a Macintosh with a plasma flat screen, and I optimize the images usually around 60-70 percent, and don't ever see any pixelation.

After, I published my site, and viewed it on, PC's and other older monitors, the JPEG quality looks like ****e.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Check My site: www.carpeinternational.com

look at jpegs. give me some info..

cheers.

happy 300th post to me!

Bad Quality Jpeg An Gif In Flash
Im making a screensaver with flash, with imported jpegs and pngs and such, but the quality changes for the worst when its published as swf or exe. I allready changed the directory of the pictures so flash doesnt compres it but the quality is still bad..
anybody got suggestions? (working in flash 4)

Jpeg Image Quality
I made a flash introduction with a jpeg image in it. It looks perfectly fine on the preview, but after I export the movie I can see the rigid lines around the edge.

When exporting the movie I set jpeg image quality to 100 but it made no difference.

What can I do to improve the quality of the image?

Jpeg Quality In Flash
I'm currently creating a flash site for a photographer and the image quality is becoming a problem. The Jpegs seem to really decrease in quality when published to the web. I have put the "Quality = Best" script in the first frame of the movie but my general question is....

do jpegs just look better in non-flash sites?

Dynamic Jpeg Quality
I have been reading dozens maybe hudreds of posts on the dynamic jpeg issue but haven't found an answer to my question. I have a site I am working on from a template and I can't get an answer to why the images that are dynamically loaded appear to be jagged instead of smooth.

I'm sorry to ask a questioin on subject with so many posts already but I'm sure it will be a few days of researching for me (a Newb) until I happen to stumble across an answer. So if anyone who knows happens across this post your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. R

Adjusting JPEG Quality
Hey all,
I havent been here in a dreadfully time, but I have an important question.
I'm currently working a photography website, and I know how to load JPEG files dynamically into movie clips. The one problem is I want to have small thumbnails of the JPEGs. Well, this sounds cool and all, but It will cause the SWF file to fun terribly slow. So i want to ajdust the JPEG quality. Is there a simple code to do this? Am I missing something. Thanks!

Jpeg Quality In Flash?
hey just a quick on here.
if youve read my ealier thread on the shout box you would know that i am currently making my web page zacusonline.com, ive been using flash for the buttons and navbar and stuff like that, but for some reason one of the button panels i have made using (i think exactly the same technique(drawing in photoshop and animating in flash) seems to be low quality, not pixelated really but kinda like the loss of qulity when saving somthing as a giff. file

thanks any help is appreciated

CPU Pegged When Publishing With JPEG Quality At 87
I'm attaching a simple clip to a main movie and noticing that the CPU usage pegs at 100. Started thining out the library...actually started from scratch ... When the PNG32 (imported from FWmx) is published at jpg quality 80 the cpu doesn't budge ... well. it budged but it zeros out right away. The exact same graphic pegs the CPU when exported at quality setting 87.

The problem only occurrs when this child is attached to the main movie? Gotta be caused by something in how i'm attaching it. Since each main movie will be attaching an unknow number/name of children (most just static graphics like this one but others full-blown interactions themselves) I use a loop to preload all my assets.

Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
// if this movie needs preloading

if (_level40.activeClip == this._name){

this._visible = true;
this._x = _level40.clip_x;
this._y = _level40.clip_y;
this._xscale = _level40.clip_xscale;
this._yscale = _level40.clip_yscale;

} else {
this._visible = false;
}

if (_root["load"+this._name]) {
// has the loadMovie command been processed yet?

if (total_bytes == null) {
total_bytes = this.getBytesTotal();
} else {
// controll bar - standard % preloader code
loaded_bytes = this.getBytesLoaded();
remaining_bytes = total_bytes-loaded_bytes;
percent_done = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*100);
// _root.bar.gotoAndStop(percent_done);
// if loading is complete
if (percent_done>95) {
// trace ("fully loaded:" add this._name );
_visible = 0;
gotoAndStop(1);
// done loading this one, load the next
//_root["load"+this._name] = false;
delete _parent["load"+this._name];
_root.loadNext();
}
}
}
}
onClipEvent (data) {

_visible = 0;
gotoAndStop(1);
}
Strangely enough...where this simple graphic (150x100 or so) pegs teh cpu, other, complex interactions don't show this problem.

Set JPEG Quality In Flash Or Photoshop?
What is the general concensus about optimizing jpegs for use in Flash;

Exporting from PS at 100% and then setting the image quality in the publish settings of Flash, or the reverse?

1000000$ Question On Quality And Jpeg
in many sites you get a light pixelate image-not a smooth one-
even when you change the -quality to medium or high (right click)=
exacly what im looking for since it delivers a better image then the blurry smooth one (for my view)

ive tryed :
1-_quality="low"
2-quality - low (in html)
3-asking friends?
but -nada
the image can still return to smooth one

Bad JPEG Quality When Picture Rotated?
Hi guys...

I have a jpeg that needs to display on a 15 degree tilt. It doesn't need to rotate on an animation or anything, just needs to fit within a box on a tilt.

The JPEG looks great when I don't place any rotation on it, but as soon as I place a 15 degree rotate on the MC it resides within, the JPEG looks terrible.

I have the JPEG quality set at 100 in my publish settings, so the cause it definetely the rotate.

Has anyone heard of this or have any solutions?

thanks!

Flash Jpeg Quality Problems
Hello all,

I have been trying to import images converted from .psd to .jpg and/or .png into Flash ( studio 8 ) - The converted images look just fine when opened on PS or viewed through my browser, but once it is imported into Flash the images look flat and washed out.

I have made sure that the quality of image compression is left at either 100% or lossless - This problem happens when I use both, .jpg or .png formats.

The as a text I chose the same image and used PS to assign the image a sRGB Colour Space - The image then looked the same as it was when Flash opened it - Thus I recon that flash is converting the image to sRGB and not keepinng it the original colour space ( Adobe 1998 ).

So my problem is how to have Flash keep the original colour space, i.e. Adobe 1998.

Any ideas ??

Thanks,

jai

Hello All/JPEG Quality/trasparent Bgrounds
Hello all!

Ok, I have been doing a lot of work in flash for some time now, but the time has come to take it a step further.

A couple of local businesses have asked me to design a couple of logos for them. I have done this, and am pleased with the results.

The problem is that all design work I have done in the past is in a sitemaker called moonfruit. It is flash-based, and all work I do, I just upload as swf's. But these guys want JPEG's. This is fine, as we can publish them in this format, but i cant figure out how to do so without the background. As well as this, the JPEG quality seems awful, but isnt when I upload them into the virtual world of secondlife. They are fine there for some reason.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Kris.

Jpeg Quality Control In Flash
When working with jpgs that will be embedded in a flashMX 2004 document, I typically make the jpg the needed size at 72 dpI and save for web in Photoshop or some program.......in the highest quality settings when needed.

Is there a way to create or save Jpgs for flash so that when you have a scaleable site, that the jpegs stay at a high quality if the viewer has a large monitor and fills his window with the browser, thus enlarging the jpgs?

I thought maybe I could create a large jpg to begin with, then import it into flash,then scale it down, so that when it scales back up again, it would be good quality.......but I think as soon as you scale it down.....thats the quality is stays at......it seems.

Thank you for any input. (flashmx2004)

Flash 5... Jpeg Quality Sucks
Hello all,
I have been around reading some of the posts on this issue but nothing seems to fix the quality, I think I have found all the compression setting that there are in flash, I set everything to 100.. but still get pixelated and destorted images when I preview in a browser. I have even tried varying the sizes of the jpg I am importing but still can't get the quality up...
obviously there is something I am missing, just don't know what it is...
any ideas

Xscale And Yscale / Jpeg Quality
Hey all,
I am building up a simple zoom in zoom out on an externally loaded picture.
When I load the picture without applying any ._xscale and ._yscale to it, the resolution is fine but when I use the ._xscale and .yscale to the movieclip it is in, it blurs the image.
I don't get it.
I am posting bits of the code in case you are curious.
Thanks for your help.
Fabrice

//gets the info for choosing the right pix

mepixVar.load("indic.txt");

loadMovie(this.pathToPics+z, _root.photo.loader.recip);
_root.photo.loader.recip._quality = "BEST";
};

Jpeg Quality Loss When Using LoadMovie
I have a jpeg inside a movie clip which moves around and stuff. I've already compressed it using photoshop to make it as small as possible. It looks good in the .swf file when published.

However, when this same swf is loaded into another movie using loadMovie the there is a loss in quality.

I have set the publish settings for both files to best. In the library I have set the quality for the image file to best also.

What else can i try?

JPEG Quality Doesn't Change On Export In MX?
Hey all!

I'm not sure what's up, maybe I'm missing a preference or something, but I've looked long and hard.

I've just started using MX instead of 5 and for some reason no matter what the JPEG quality level I set it to on export, it doesn't change it. If I set it to 1 the filesize and appearance is the same as if I set it on 100. In fact if I set it to 1 it still looks like it doesnt optimize at all.

I've looked and looked and looked but I'm stumped. I never had this problem with 5.

Thank you for any help!!

Publish 0% Jpeg Quality With Auto-high
Hello, I'm playing around with flash 5 and I have high-speed internet connection, I created the movie without any importing of images, another words i hand drew everything (i think then it would be vector images?) anyway i noticed that i can save at anywhere from 0 to 100% without the swf file size changing, and i was wondering if for 56k users (swf size is 64k) i should publish using autohigh instead of high, to make it stream / load faster? and am wondering / worring if the graphics clarity will be comprimised viewing with a 56k at 0% jepeg value and set to auto-high?

Jpeg, Any Bitmap, Import Quality Loss?
i know this has been asked about a million times and i have read the replys but now i cant find any of the threads - i have tried every diffrent file format possible but everytime i import an image into flash it gets lighter, noticeibly. i have embedded color profiles, saved at max quality, what is the trick to maintaining the quality/color of my images?

Batch-Editing Jpeg Quality Properties

Problem In Flashmx With Loaded Jpeg Quality
Hey,

I'm loading external jpegs dynamically from an array in my flash project, but the quality is degraded once they load. Smooth lines on logos appear jagged and some of the images look squished. Does anyone know if there's a way to improve the quality? (the publish setting are on high quality, no compression)

thanks

[Flash MX 6.0] - Preserving Quality Of Loaded Jpeg
Is there any way to prevent smoothing of jpegs loaded at runtime?

I'm loading small images from a database at runtime, and Flash messes them up with the old pixel shift/smoothing problem...

Or is there a workaround?

Use Imported JPEG Data Vs: Use Document Default Quality
I have created two fla files and imported jpegs into each. when I go into the library and view the properties of the images in each fla file they give me different options for export. One of the fla files gives me a "Use imported JPEG data" checkbox and the other one gives me a "Use document default quality" checkbox. I like the use imported JPEG data option better. Why are they different????? (driving me nuts

JPEG/GIF Image Quality - Sheared Diagonal Lines In Flash MX
Hi Everyone,

I have a reccuring problem with imported jpeg's and gif's in Flash MX. Basically whenever I import them if the image has a strong diagonal line in it, Flash will render the movie so that the line looks sheared and really crappy. The quality of the jpeg's are specially awful, I am making sure that I have imported them at the exact size I need them and dragging and dropping them straight into the movie form the library menu.

I have tried the trick of putting them into a movie clip and setting the opacity at 99% ( a good trick to stop rasterized images 'moving' or 'creeping' when you have a vector animation in the layer above ). But they still look like sh*t, HELP!

Preloader Destroys Jpeg Quality Despite Increase Compression Setting

Poor Image Quality When Loading JPEG File Using MovieClipLoader.loadClip()

Image Quality Takes A Dive When I Move Everything From Frame 1 To Frame 3.
I'm not sure what's going on here. I decided I need to add a preloader to my site so I moved everything in frame 1 of the main stage to frame 3 so I could add in the preloader. Without the preloader, I tested it to make sure everything was moved over to frame 3 and that everything was working and now when I preview the movie in Internet Explorer all of the images (png format) are really jagged around the edges as if AA is not on anymore. Everything looks fine if its in frame 1, yet in frame 3 it looks bad. Any idea what's up and how to correct this?
