Flash Photoshop And HTML Integration
Hey everyone,
I am trying to learn how to integrate flash,photoshop layout and html into a site. To give you better understanding, I would like to make a site similar to www.shiver7.com

The banner and navigation is in flash while the rest is HTML, yet it is one whole layout. I'm confused on if the layout is made first with photoshop, then imported into flash? Is there any specific tutorial I should search for? I hope I have not confused anyone. Any advice or point in direction will be very appreciated. Thank you!

howdy everybody,

I'm reletively new to flash web development, and my learning has been rather skatty! Using the functions of flash is not a problem. I am currently attempting to produce graphics in Photoshop, and animate them in flash. I have searched countless tutorials regarding this. My problem is this....

After importing several JPEG, GIF, or PNG images, the frame rate of the movie suffers drastically.The file size of the SWF is not a problem, this has been compressed quite significantly (40Kb), but the frame rate stil drops to 3 or 4 fps.

Even breaking the file into multiple SWFs does not help!

Why can i not perform this seemingly simple task, when sites like this (http://www.whoswestudios.com/flashsite.html) can produce stupidly advanced graphics on the web. Am i breaking some basic rule that i may have overlooked while learning.

if anyone could enlighten me regarding this, or just post a link to a relevant tutorial, i would be extremely grateful as it is sending me insane!..

Photoshop CS2 Flash Gallery Integration With Flash 8...help, Please? :)
OK...so i took a shortcut and created a really nice looking flash gallery that is xml driven...all done in photoshop CS2.

The problem:
I am an intermediate flash user, but the task of implementing this gallery into an existing .fla file is slipping right through my fingers. I'm trying to use the .swf loader but it keeps giving me weird messages about the .xml file. I know i'm missing a step or two. Is there an easy way of doing this so it's all in one movie? I'd rather not have it call to a pop-up window just for the gallery, when it can be contained in the movie.

Can anyone tell me if Flash works with integration of older versions of Photoshop and Illustrator. I've read about new integration tools and wonder if the new tools only work with CS3 versions of other Adobe software.

Flash Integration With An LMS
Hi guys I'm new here so if I'm posting this in the wrong forum I apologise in advance.

I'm in a situation whereby the company I work for have been asked to courseware which will work in a LMS environment (ims, aicc, scorm etc compliant). The problem is that the existing courseware I've created was designed to stand alone ie all elements are in the flash file(no html anywhere, basically the table of contents, menus etc are all contained in a master .swf which in turn loads tutorials,audio as needed).

Basically I'm wondering if any of you guys or gals have any experience in this area? I'm tearing my hair out cos any of LMS examples I've looked at seem to be all html based with maybe a tiny flash animation embedded on the page I havent seen any 100% flash courses and it seems to me that if I wish to convert our existing courses I have to rip everything apart and start from scratch (which to be honest seems to me like a case of 1 step forward and 10 steps back).

Flash / ASP Integration Help
After reading the few tutorials on ASP/Flash integration, I'm somewhat still at a loss. The flash file accepts a value, and when submitted the ASP file should take that value and email it. Fairly simple using strictly ASP.

If anyone can look at the zipped file and see what I may have done wrong, I'd appreciate it.

Flash - Asp Integration
I am making a login page in flash. it sits in front of a movie, as a preloader would. here is what I want it to do. I want it to first check if you are already logged in, through asp, and checking a cookie on your cpu. Second if you are not it shows you the login page where you type your info, it sends it to the asp, checks if it write etc. the question I have, is do you treat the vars as you would from a form, and do I use the getURL (whatever.asp) to do this? an example would be nice.

Flash-VB Integration
Hi Fellows!

I'm about to finish a cd-rom in flash to a client, and I need to put a function on the movie (a button) to copy a file from CD to the folder choosen by the user. I think that flash doesn't do these file handling things so I did a program in VB that receive the parameter (path/filename) amd open a folder selection window. Once the user choose the folder and click ok it copy the file to that folder. It work like this:

program.exe d:folderfilename.plt

The program take that parameter after the .exe and use it.

My Problem is: how the hell I can send that parameter in flash (fscommand?!)?
I tried this with fscommand but Flash doesn't send the parameter so I had an idea: Send the parameter to a text or XML file!

BUT HOW TO WRITE A TEXT OR XML FILE IN FLASH WITHOUT SERVER-SIDE?????

If someone of you guys could help me.

Now this works fine, and generates the menu without a problem. The problem I am having is with the section in bold. When the button is released I want it to go to load the external swf with the corresponding filename and then play it in a movieclip titled "pages".

Each button however contains the link but it always links to whatever the last filename in the xml file is. I pretty much know why this is but I can't for the life of me work out a way around it.

Can anyone please help me out??

Flash / JS Integration Kit?
has anyone used this? I am getting bizarre output from it and can't get it to even output to text fields in the swf that I am running it from. HELP!!!

Flash And FTP Integration
Morning fellow developers,
I'm working on a new site and we were going to dev an ind. FTP program, but after some more consideration, we came across the cross-browser and OS compatibility. We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords.

I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.. IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME, MAX_FILESIZE, etc...

If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.

Any foresight is of course appreciated it. Just doing some research right now.

XML Integration In Flash
I'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random, having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.

Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ASP And FLASH INtegration
Hi Guys and Gals,

Im having a bit of trouble integrating dynamic variables pulled from a databse using an ASP script with a flash movie.

Background:

I need to send variables stored in a ms sql db to a flash movie to display several values.

The dyanmic element comes in because i am using an ID to select the values from the db e.g id1 = joe bloggs id2 = paul smith

etc

When i am hardcoding the id in the asp script the variables are sent to the flash movie no probs and they display correctly.

I am also printing the asp code on the page and that all displaying fine.

HOWEVER, the issue arises when i make the asp code dynamic and by that i mean I am using request.querystring to pull the id

from the URL - The print out of the asp code is still displaying the correct variables, BUT they are not being passed to the

flash movie at all - the placeholder is blank there isn't event an error!!.

Couple of things to note â€“

- if you change the id bit of the url in the dynamic script to the printed asp code changes
- THE FLASH MOVIE IS IDENTIAL in both scenarios
- all variable names have remained the same
- it is NOT a location of file issue as we have tested the dynamic code files In another folder and no joy
- we are not using any other file includes or asp code in any of the page â€“ all other code has been stripped out

THE ISSUE WE HAVE IS THAT THE PRINTED VARIABLES ARE NOT BEING PASSED TO THE FLASH MOBIE in scenario 2 where the asp code is

looking for the participant id dynamically (i.e from the URL)

Really could do with some help here!!!

Help With XML And Flash Integration...
Hello all. This site was suggested to me because of its Flash gurus. That is just what i am looking for. I have a project i am working on, and it is kind of big. I have an XML file, ok, and it has question groups in it. Each question group will have any number of questions in it. not really any number, but it could be 3, it could be 7. Now, each question will have four answers. I need to have it set up so that Flash parses it, and then dynamically attaches one group of questions to one page, or frame. It has to be able to adjust to the number of questions in a group, but there will always be four answers. I need the main question to be put into a dynamic text box. Below this, there will be four radio buttons. When building web based applications, integration is essential. Personally, my background is mostly in flash and HTML web design. I am used to integrating with classic asp and javascript. Of course, flash is the best for creating gorgeous interfaces that are easy to use. But anymore, .NET is the standard in developing web based application. I am looking for ways to integrate Flash with .NET

Adobe has a good solution called remoting, but this costs $1000 for the software.

It seems almost as if this is how it's getting to be if you want to expand your flash techniques anymore. It seems as if Adobe just makes a separate software that costs too much instead of adding these things to flash. It's getting pretty frustrating. Each time the owner of the company I work for asks... "well how did they do that?" I have to reply with "they spent another grand for the software." Then he says... "well what is it?" Then I say "it's a flash add on."

So I'm looking for other solutions as of right now. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you

VB And Flash Cs3 Integration.

In flash 8, dynamic text fields have a variable to set, in flash cs3 this does not exist. I have putting the control flash.ocx in a form of visual basic the variable one with this instruction could popular:

Shockwave1.SetVariable (“var1”, “Hello Word!”)

This method work with Flash Cs3 does not give error but from where succeeds to capture this variable one?

Another problem only with Flash Cs3:

To call the "LoadThumbNails()" function on the FrameLabel “vbCall” dont'works:

Shockwave1.TCallLabel “vbCall”, “LoadThumbNails”.

In Cs3 work only:

Shockwave1.FlashVars = "var1=" & "Hello Word!"

To retritive this use: root.LoaderInfo.parameters.var1

Hi,

      I'm running into a problem with the communication between flash and ASP.  How do I make the ASP wait until it has retrieved all of the values from Flash before it begins program execution?

     I'm creating a login page in flash that communicates with an ASP page which in turn communicates with an Oracle database through a VB COM object.  I need to be sure that there the ASP variables (ie. loginID, password) have received the necessary values from the Flash before calling the COM object.

     How do I do a check to see if the flash variable retrieval is finished in the ASP?

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me. I am building a kiosk, the interface of which is written in Flash 5. Behind this, I have got IIS running. What I had intended to do is have a hit counter in ASP (simple enough) that registers a count every time a particular button in Flash is pressed. What I hoped I could do is run an vbs file (cant do that) so I am now looking at the IIS served ASP approach. (btw, the button cannot launch any visible windows or suchlike...)

Flash And ASP Integration
Hello all,

I am having a hard time getting my flash app to read a ASP page. The asp I have set up to test is on a remote computer hosting the database. When I type the IP address(222.222.222.222/results.asp) into my browser, I get the intended test result

When I run the actionscript statement

and attempt to reference either var1 or var2 with a trace() statement, I get 'undefined'. I have also tried loading the variables to a target movie clip (i.e. loadVariables("http://222.222.222.222/results.asp", Data)
and using the
onClipEvent(data){ trace(var1); }
and I still get undefined. Also, I have tried using the loadVars.load(url) and loadVars.toString() but I still get undefined. Can someone PLEASE help me with this. All the tutorials on the internet point to these methods, but they just aren't working. I'm stuck and need to get this done for work, PLEASE HELP!!

This outputs the entire list of users from the database to Flash; the eof at the end lets flash know that that is the end of the list, so it can stop the loop inside Flash. Now what I am trying to do is take these variables and set them in a dynamic list box, via a loop, so that the list is always updated when the app runs. I have a function that creates a string that is identical to the variable name, however can I use these to reference the variables that are already in flash via ASP?

Html And Flash Integration.. Is THIS Possible?
Okay you rabid flash gerbils, save me. I am making a flash site that is being byte infested by the number of jpegs I need to insert. What is the best way to deal with the problem of download time and file size?

My original idea was to have a separate swf for each images, and load it into a layer above the main movie. Is there any way though, to open up an html page on a new layer above the swf?

I am not sure if I am explaining my idea well enough, if you would like to check out the site and give me some feedback, I'd be grateful.

Why doesn't this work in Netscape? It works just fine ine IE. It is supposed to pass the HEX colour value to the flash file, which resides in a different frame.

i have a client that just wants to be able to update just the news section of their site(site is all flash). they dont want to upload a text file but would rather have a simple web app. whats the best way to build this?

Flash MX Integration With Dreamweaver
Ok, So I made a .swf loader which when you click on thumbnails inside of a scroll panel, it gets loaded in the main portion of the flash window.
This can be found at movieplayer

the fla is at http://contiki.jeweladdict.com/movies/movieplayer.fla

It works perfectly.
I then go into dreamweaver, and add it to my webpage, and upload it

php page with movieplayer integrated into it

The problem is that when I go to clcik on the thumbnails in the scroll panel, nothing happens...

It's suppose to load the external swf movie clips and play them...
any ideas?
I would say that its a buffer/loading issue, but for the standaloen movie player, when i click on the thumbs, the movie loads up quickly, whereas on the web page, it doesn't seem to load at all...

would making preloaders help? At least with the % bar i'll know its loading...

any thoughts/ideas?

Flash Integration Kit Problems

I have just started using the flash integration kit and I'm having a slight problem.
I've created a test movie with a function called changeImage(pageName:String) which I am calling from javascript in my web page. The function is called once a link is pressed in the html which changes the page. The name of the new page is passed in as a parameter, and this is where the problem is. The pagename has a value in the javascript (I've tested the output here) as well as in JavaScriptFlashGateway (same). The actionscript method is called with the correct id etc. but the pagename is suddenly undefined. I can call methods in the javascript from my actionscript and pass in parameters ok, but the other way around I have problems. Does anyone have any ideas?

[F8] Flash 8 Swf/html Integration
Hi there, I'm creating a site for which the main Flash interface can be seen here:

When clicking on the 2nd tier links once past the splash page, that's when all of the main content will load for each of those pages, which will be html. Those pages will probably be quite text heavy, and will need to be updated dynamically by the client on occasion. My question is regaurding the transition from swf to HTML. When clicking on the link, as you can see the main menu shrinks, and the plan is to have the html load below, trying to integrate the design elements so that the html loads below without being too "obvious", and so that the main menu above stays in place.

Just not sure if it's better to place the swf into the html doc, or somehow load an html doc below the swf menu FROM the swf itself, etc. I'm assuming that loading the html into the swf is not the right answer...

Sorry if this question it too general, I'm just trying to figure out the best direction to take.

[F8] HTML Integration Into Flash?
Hello,

I've done some searches one this in various forums but I always came up with either way to many results or none at all so I'm just going to ask even though I'm sure it's out there: Is there a way to put an html webpage inside say.. like a movie clip or something in Flash?

I've been redoing a website in Flash and there are a couple of pages that it would just be simpler if I could have them load within the flash movie rather than to redo them. Is Flash capable of this or not?

Just A Little Question Flash-Photoshop Integration

Hi, I have just on litltle problem. When I am all done with my photoshop work, and have all sliced up, how do I import the whole thing to flash. Thanks in advance.
