Flash :: Laggy Background

Laggy Fps
I'm creating a flash site which i really like the look of. But it's quite cpu intensive due to the bitmaps/pngs.
Its semi finished version is http://jak.stepo.net/nelsons/index2.html

I'd be realy thankfull if some ppl could have a look and reply to this with how laggy they found it and on what cpu they are using typa thing.

And if anyone has any tips/ideas on improving the speed/cutting the laggy fps without sacrificing the look I would be really really really happy.

Laggy Swf.
My swf starts with 100 movieclips, and that makes it really laggy. After a while in the swf, those movieclips are being removed through AS3. And after they are removed, the swf is still that laggy! And if I start off with zero movieclips, it is not laggy at all.

Please help! In AS2 I could simply use updateAfterEvent...

Is This Laggy?
on safari, this seems extremely laggy...not only on my computer but other high-performance macs around campus. any ideas on what i can do to make it not-laggy.

Too Many Levels Get Laggy...
I've been duplicating movies at one per frame x 36 frames per second and found that they get laggy by about 150 and then start slowing down dramatically.

Do you know why this is and how to get around it?

The only solution I've had so far is to move ahead in frames and start duplicating again from where I left off. I guess this leaves behind the bulk and sort of starts anew. But 100 at a time is not good enough...

Laggy Movies
Hey there peoples of flash,
Lately I'm just starting to make longer, more complex, and more animated flash movies. I thought it was all good since they ran fine on my computer (but it's very new) and i got complaints from others that it ran really slow... so i checked it on my downstairs computer ( a 1.3ghz) and surely enough, tremendous lag on the videos... so i was just wondering what settings i should have somewhere to eliminate this (the movie is 14fps, which shouldnt lag that bad) so... help please? thanks.

Laggy Problem
How do I remove a bunch of Array objects on the screen? I have a 3rd person shooter with a scrollable background, and I want to rid of any object that leaves my screen after I pass it.

I have this code in each of my object:

I still get lag after I pass by large amounts of objects...

Laggy Animation
I have a .swf file with about 12 small blocks that are fadeing in and out, a block of text that is scrolling, a radial gradient that is expanding and contracting in size, and a spinning square.
When it plays it the animation is jerky. I suppose I'm asking how much animation can flash play at a time without getting laggy animation and have I surpassed that limit or what is causing the lag?

Im making a shooting game, but i need to test collisions for 20 objects.

im using a for loop that is on each bullet to check for each object.

This method is slow. Is there another?

My App Is SOOOO Laggy
With the help of a lot of flashheads online...especially xxneon and Gregg SS at AS.org...I have come up with a duct tape & bubble gum application that runs like a jet airplane on propane...although the fact that it's so sketchy is not at all the fault of those guys...it's a Miracle that they have been able to help me put this together...anyway, enough ass kissing, and to the point...my application is way too slow to be practical...I tried running it at home on my laptop and it was just unbearable slow...after it loaded the xml (5 min) the mouse grabby hand was so damn laggy and everything else was so damn laggy I almost punched my monitor...so I fear that others may get the same feeling...and in effect, not like my app =/

I want to know what I can do to increase the performance of my application. I would eventually like to increase the speed of the XML load, but that is not the main concern...my concern is that the damn app is slow after the xml finishes loading...what can I do to make it run more smoothly? Is it a frame rate issue? I'm sure my code has a lot to do with it cause I am fairly new to flash (workin with it 4 months now)...please help...

Laggy Presentation
Ok here's my problem i made some big presentations, it's all 1360 x 768. They are all working fine on my computer (Ibook g4). But the presentation must play full screen at start with no mouse (I had 3 line of code in the flash file). Right now on my cpu it works really fine. But, when I switch to the presentation cpu (mac mini intel version) it is reallly ...

I mean first the flash doesn't play by itself. If you double click on the swf. It ask in which program run it. Safari is not the right solution because it is not full screen...

Also, much of the presentation it is really laggy. My presentation is only mac in flash, no jpeg, no radien only vertor line and it lag. All the zoom in or out doesn't work.

So how can I make it play full screen, with no lag (it is perfect on my ibook) on a mac mini?

Laggy _x-movement, Need Some Help

The possition of those black boxes is controlled bij the mouse, but..
Its laggy! the swf is flickering and i dont know why!

The swf has a framerate of 25fps, and it doesnt matter if i in/decrease it.

Laggy Duplicatemovieclip
Yeah, it seems to lag after making a lot. I'm trying to make it so you're shooting bullets, but with each bullet it lags worse. The duplicate movieclip it being removed, AND replaced. I don't know why it's lagging. All the bullet is is a line.
It used to be only shooting one bullet at a time, and it didn't lag then

Should I go back to the old way I had it?
Does it always lag after a lot of duplicates?
Does it not delete the actions that are in the duplicate movieclip?

answering one of the above would help me

Flash Projector Is Laggy
for some reason i publish the movie im working on and its laggy as crap. theres nothing special going on really ... i mean theres a ton of tweening and stuff , but no more than what ive had in the past. even if i bump the frame rate to 120 its still just as laggy. does anyone know what may cause a movie to become laggy like this?

Laggy Flash Movement
Hi all,
I'm currenly working on an interactive map and am in the process of implementing some basic navigational functionality.

I have the map (quite complex) drawn in adobe illustrator, and am exporting it as a vector swf file (approx 500kb). Then i am importing it into flash using pan and zoom controls to move the map around the stage.

I have had no problems coding this, and it works by moving and scaling the background swf image. All other simple swf files i have tried seem to work smoothly, however when i load this one, the animation becomes extremely laggy.

Does anyone know anything I may be able to do to fix this? is there any way of optimising the file or is it just too big and complicated for vector?

Laggy In When Running In Browser?
I have a game that runs at 60 fps. When I run it in a web browser, it drops all the way to either 45 or 30 fps (average). I tried changing the mode to Opaque. At first, I was glad! It runs 60 fps, no lag. But then I tried using WASD to move...nothing happened. I can click and everything, but keyboard input won't work. It works when running in Flash Player and not the browser, but once it's in the browser, no keyboard input. I'm in a situation. What can I do to not have lag but allow keyboard input?

Program Is Really Laggy And Horrible
For some strange reason, when I tried to add some more functions to my code, the program became really laggy and things such as the shadows started to have horrible quality. Aside from that, the screen does not clear the old lines from the screen, so it keeps making an "array" of lines, if you will. Not exactly sure what's wrong; I've looked through the code several times and am stumped. I need your help! Thanks so much in advance.

Laggy Flash Animation
Hi people, everytime I publish a Flash animation and upload it onto a server, it looks way laggier when I view it online than when I view the .swf file on my harddrive. Are there any tips for making Flash animations not laggy? i.e. things to adjust in the publish settings? use actionscript to guide motions instead of using motion tweening? Thanks in advance.

Tween Is Laggy / Choppy?

Laggy Brush Tool On Windows XP.
Ever since I got Windows XP on my systems, the brush tool in any version of Flash (mx, 5 and 4) lags like there's no tomorrow. I want to finish my artist portfolio; Flash is my main drawing application and now it's backstabbing me. it looks quite like this:

Laggy Flash Movie, Is There A Way To Keep The Frames Going?
I am using an absurd amount of alpha blending in my flash movie. Now some computers run it just fine but some don't. This movie is a game and the FPS is really important. Is there a way to make it so that every 1 second 12 frames will pass no matter what. The game just slows down, making it easy to beat, I'd rather have it skip or just produce less frames. Can someone help me out?

Laggy Site Intro Optimization
Working on a site intro with a friend and it's lookin really nice except for it lags during some of the tweens. Would scripting the tweens with AS or anything else help clear some of this up?

I thought maybe there was some tip for mc's, like for text I heard going from 1-99 solved some problems.

[CS3] Small File Size, Large Image Causes Laggy Performance
Hello. I have a SWF that is about 800k. In that SWF is a very basic animation, and over time an image comes in, fills the screen, and exits. I'm running at 1360x768, 30 frames per second, on a 42inch LCD with a custom box. This custom box is very minimal in power, but we've used it and boxes like it for these animations for over a year now (not this actual pc, just same build type). It has always been relatively smooth, able to play 12mb files with multiple animations taking place simultaneously. The only time it has ever lagged is this time, with one large (1360x1360 masked to 1360x768) movie clip filling the screen and then fading out.

Any tips for optimization? I'd really like to eliminate the chugging that is taking place, especially since I'm not done adding elements to this file. Thanks in advance!

How would I best go about changing a Flash menu that currently has a white background into a Flash menu with a transparent background?

I want to take that menu (with a transparent background) and place it over a side-bar image that i've got in DW.

In a bit of a pickle here; I need a way to insert a swf file into any color background website, so it automatically matches up.

Now, can one make the swf files background transparent? And match the background of any given websites background?

Or, can one use some sort of XML file and simply change this xml file to match the background color of the website?

Now, what if the website uses a particulare pic background? How would one match this?

Hey, I have a flash website that opens as a pop up, the pop auto fullscreens. The background in the flash document is a gradient, and I have a gradient in the background of the html. My question is how would I get the background of the HTML to always match up with the flash background using a percentage?

Printing A MC With White Background, Not Stage Background?
Iâ€™m trying to print a movieclip with a white background while keeping the stage background black. The movieclip, printResults_mc has a white rectangle in the bottom layer, 850 pixels x 1100 pixels. The following function scales printResults_mc to the printerâ€™s printable area but because itâ€™s impossible to predict the aspect ratio of the printable area some black background always leaks out. I tried making the white background 20 pixels larger than I need (870 x 1120) and then setting a crop rectangle in addPage of (10,10,850,1100), no luck, the black stage background just fills in the area outside the crop. A simple solution would be to temporarily set the stage background color property to white, print, then set it back to black, but I canâ€™t find any such property. Anyone have some ideas?

Transition Problems - Background To Background
my problem is, when click on the button to make a background go away ( fade out ) and another fades in...there is a quick blip or jump when it should be a very smooth transition from one to the other.

alright, i guess im pretty new to flash but i was wondering, when you make a background image for a flash page, (in photoshop for me) what format do you save it as to get the best picture? ive tried .png and it comes out blurry and has a lot of miscolored pixels, .jpg comes out the same way, .gif was very bad, it was even distorted. i figured bitmap would be too big of a file size so i didnt try, but what does every use to get good quality pictures?

I am trying to creat an swf file with a transparent background.

i create my movie, the select 'panels' and 'export'. in the show export options for html, under window mode i select 'transparent'. then i use the export toolbar to export to .swf file. but the exported file always has a background the color of my movie, not a transparent one.

I have a Flash movie that is 31 scenes long. I want to create a background that plays continually as the user goes from one scene to another.

Is there a way to create a background scene for the whole movie? There are about six animated movie clips that I want to use as the background.

Hi

Im working with a Background MC. I change the rgb of this MC using a button. I need that the mc respect the rgb i select when it pass from one scene to another.
I set the rgb in the scene 1. When i go to scene 2 it respect the rgb. But when i go next scene the Background MC get the default value.

the button to select the rgb says:

And the first frame of all scenes says:
