Uknown File Format When Trying To Open Sample
Hi,

I am using Flash 8 and I tried to open one of the sample files (animation.fla) that comes with the Sample.zip archive in http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flash/samples/ and I get the following error:

"Undefined file format"

I can't open any of those files. does someone know what is the problem?

How To Open .mov, .mpg Files From Projector File On Cd?
I've created a projector file in MX with buttons that use loadMovie commands to open other .exe files. The whole thing will be burned onto a CD and viewed from there. So far so good. Two problems I need help with:

1. I need to be able to have button actions that can open .mpgs and/or .mov files. Tried doing this with fscommand by following some tutorials, but couldn't get it to work.

Any ideas how I can create button actions that will call and open .mpg or .mov files, then somehow enable the user to have access to/get back to the original projector file/viewer?

2. How to use loadMovie or other actions/commands to open the .hqx file so Mac users can access the same projector files linked as button actions?

See topic. I am bored so i am making a "flash wallpaper," just to see if it could work out well. I want to be able to click on a button and have it open up a program, like AIM. i tried getURL, but then it brings up the "download" box, where it asks you to open, save, etc. is there a way that i can make it open a file directly?

i tried using fscommand exec, C:/folder/file.exe, but nothing happened.

How Do I Make A Flash Button Open A URL (.html File) In Same Window?
I’ve created a button in Flash CS3 which has been imported into Dreamweaver CS3. The button works fine in preview (with Internet Explorer) but opens in a new window. How do I get it to open in the same window, on the same page?

The code that has been written to the button’s action-script 3.0 (in a separate layer) in Flash is:

When I add the code , “_self” to the action-script, nothing happens when I preview it in Explorer, why? What am I doing wrong?

Open Windows Explorer And Make External File In Front Of Flash Proyektor.
I have to problem with my proyektor file.

1. when I open external file (pdf file with .bat file to run it), the adobe acrobat run under the flash proyektor windows so I can see the acrobat reader before I quit the flash proyektor.

I need to make the acrobat reader run in front of flash proyektor. It seem the flash proyektor have "always on top" command.

2. How can I open windows explorer from flash? Is there any actionscript for this?

From what I've read, this should be possible?

I'm getting stuck at the first obstacle, I can't figure out how to read in the HTML file.
THe use of the CSS styling seems to be straight forward.

I have numerous .fla files which originated on a mac. Now I need to copy these files over to my pc.

I can copy them o.k. but when I try to load them into my version of flash on the pc i get the error "unexpected file format"

Hi - ive just purchased a flash template ( lazy yes ino ) and im planning on using the photoshop files provided BUT, the template has some nice features like an mp3 player and some animated banners etc etc id like to take these and make seperate swf files so i can jus embedd them into the html page once finished - ive tried jus cutting n pasting the layers out of the template into a new flash file but it doesnt actually work - is it possible to do this and if so how?

How Do You Make Two HTML Files Load In Your .fla File?
I need to have more than one external html file load in my flash website file. I have tried to create two LoadVars and when I added the code for the second html text it not only didn't work but it caused my other html file to not work.

I am new to flash and this is my first time building a website on my own. Can anyone give me a sample of how to write this actionscript code for more than one html dyamic text boxes with css attached.

My two sections so far that have external html files are a news section where a swf file loads and plays an animated pic that transitions out to be able to read helpful tips in a textbox with a scroll bar.

And the next section is a case study.

I would like to be able to open a file after it downloads using File.reference. Has anybody done this? I know when I download files from other sites I am prompted to either save or to open, I would like to be able to do this.

Opening A Swf File Inside An Open Swf File?
Hello,

I am making a game which has ended up being a really large file. I split the game into 5 separate swf files. Presently, I am calling up the next swf file by using this script on a button:

loadMovieNum("Game Quiz.swf",1);

Where Game Quiz.swf is the name of the file being opened.

There is a problem to this, however, as the information from the previous file is not retained (i.e. visible mc's that were invisible until the player obtained them). I was wondering if somehow I could do the same thing but have the actionscript transfer over to the next swf file.

Launching An EXE File From An SWF
Hi I have been trying all day to launch EXE files from within flash.
I've used FSCOMMAND to launch files from the same directory as the movie(which worked fine), But I need to do it from 2 directories up- eg: mymovie/files/myapp/file.exe

Is there anyway to do this with out having to buy Jtool-Jstart??
As I have no money whats every to finance this project.

Launching An Exe File
Dear all. I have just made a quick and very simple little swf file to stick on a cd for the autorun. However i cannot call any of the files that i have linked to.

in the movie, i created a button, went into the actions and put:

on (release) {
fscommand("exec", "folder1/file1.exe");
}

i even tried this and linked using the bat file:

on (release) {
fscommand("exec", "filelauncher.bat");
}

neither worked (although the filelauncher.bat works on it's own!), and i was wondering if it is something to do with my computer, or something that needs to be set. I have tried using the swf file and creating an exe file and it doesn't work.

I have an .EXE and I want to launch a power point show from a button thats inside my flash movie.

I tried getURL but, it opens Powerpoint inside an Internet Explorer window.

Is there any way that I can open the file in it's own window without having to go through IE?

Heya all, after searching thru the forum archives on launching an external application with Flash MX, I'm still stumped. Here is what I'm trying to do:

I'm trying to launch an .exe file from a swf file (it will ultimately be a projector file on a CDROM).

The file is called "PPView97.exe", and it resides in the "fscommand" folder.

The swf file is located one folder up from the fscommand folder, and here is what the code for my button looks like:

on (release) {
fscommand("exec", "PPView97.exe");
}

I've also tried this:

on (release) {
fscommand("exec", "fscommand/PPView97.exe");
}

And neither of them seem to work.

I'm fairly experienced in Flash, and had no trouble doing this in ver.5.

Any help, ideas, or suggestions will be incredibly helpfull (so I can finally get this project out the door!).

I've placed the file autorun.exe in the folder fscommand but it does not execute.

In Swish 2 this works out OK, Am I doing something wrong?

I need to burn a .swf file to a CD so it will launch with Flash Player automatically when mounted. I work on a Mac but the CD needs to be PC compatible. Does anyone know where I can find info on how to do this?

Launching A .EXE File From Flash
Here's the thing I'm doing a CD and have a dropdown menu and wen ever the user clicks on one of the options it should launch the setup.exe file for that option.
I've read about the FSCOMMAND and how you're suppose to put everything in that folder and I got it working fine.
My problem is that I have several set ups, each is different but they are all named the same SETUP.EXE .........I tried making a subfolder inside of the FSCOMMAND folder for each setup but it did not work.

do you have any suggestions?

Ok ive figured out how to run a exe from a directory in the fscommand dir, but if i want to run a program from a dir in the fscommand dir how would I do it, ive tried using the examples on the macromedia site but its still not having it. I need to to this becuase i have a lot of big exe files and dont want 15000 files in one dir!
This is what ive tried :-

I've created a projector file that I want to copy onto a CD and have it autolaunch full screen when the person puts inserts it into their computer.

Does anyone know how to do this??

I think most users will be on a PC, but there may be a stray mac user or three as well.

Launching External File From Mac
Hi, I have a Flash application with a 'keyword' search facility. The search facility returns a list of links to external PDF files. Each PDF file has a series of keywords assigned to it in an external xml file. The search facility firstly checks the external xml file to work out which PDFs match the keyword. It then creates a hyperlink for each PDF using the asFunction command. The hyperlink tells the computer to run a .exe file which in turn opens the appropriate PDF.

All of this is working fine on a PC, however... I need to make it work on a Mac.

I have managed, in the same application, to launch PDFs from Flash using some apple script from a static file list, but I am lost looking at the ActionScript for the dynamically created search results list.

I think this is the bit of code I need to play with...

SWF File Launching Pop-up Window
I am putting a web site on a CD, using the Flash projector. I have used the tutorial for the Centered Pop-Up Window. Works great! Now I'm having a hard time making it work from the CD. I have searched but haven't found this similar problem.

All html files, images are in folders on the CD (Portlgpages) folder. The code for the window is:
