Layers With Html And Flash.

I'm trying to create a webpage using Flash (as the navigation) and layers. Any ideas how I could have a link in Flash to show/hide a layer on my page. I know that I would have to set it up in the Javascript, probably a FS Command of sorts?

Something like:

Flash, HTML Layers, And ASP
Hello,

I've got a site that I have been working on for the past few months and I am starting to doubt that I will be able to use HTML layers as effectively as I had hoped.

My page requires layers because I wanted to do an interactive Flash map that overlayed transparent over the HTML content of my page. It works, but extremely inconsistently.

I know that it only works in IE, and I am willing to make our Netscape visitors suffer with the non-flash version.

All the values from the top and side navigation menus are coming from a SQL 2000 DB as well as the page content itself.

Can anyone tell me why I get such unpredicatable results on this site? Here is a test copy of it posted on my webserver: http://www.mypieceofcake.com/gil

One of the root problems that I think may be causing some of the problems is that when you are on the Flash site and click a link (ex. the text version link at the bottom) if you look at your back button's history, you will notice that it created an extra page between the page your were last on, and the one you are currently on.

I really want to keep my layered Flash menu, but it looks like it may be doomed because of inconsistency. Any help or notes are greatly appreciated.

Flash And HTML Layers
I have a flash menu that is on a layer in my html so that it can float above the page. It works well, except if I have another flash movie inside the page, that one will appear "on top", even though its just in the html body & not on a layer. Does anyone know any work-arounds for this?

Flash And HTML Layers
I have a website which utilizes HTML layers. However, I found that the swf file does not "obey" the layer order and forces its way to the top of the stack. Is there something I can do to fix this?

If not, I used two separate SWF movies in the same layer. I used getURL to launch the second movie from the first (which is a control panel). However, I can't control the timeline of the second movie from the first. Is there a way to launch to a specific frame using getURL? I tried the loadMovie but it just launched in the same place as the control panel, which does not solve my problem.

HTML Over Flash In Layers
Is it possible to have a Flash animation going on in the background while you have .html text over the top? In this case, the html is dynamic so it has to actually be separate from the Flash.

Flash And Its Interaction With HTML Layers
I have just embedded a Flash .swf on a webpage with pop-up menus in <div> tags with z-indexes. When I first put the Flash on the page, the pop-up menus which have z-indexes of 10 or so were obscured by the Flash swf/object. I then put the flash in a <div> of its own and gave it a z-index of 1,0 and -2. None of these worked and the Flash was still shown above the pop-up menu layer. It seems that flash has taken control of all of the browser layers.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have html layers (part of a navigation) that are activited by mouseovers. I have these html layers z-index set at 5.

I have a swf in a different html layer which has a z-index set to 0.

Why does my swf still appear on top over my html layers that have a higher z-index.

Not Regarding Flash, Regarding Html Frames And Layers

This is not regarding flash, but its regarding html frames and layers, Plz help if any one has any ideas regarding this,

I have two frames, one top and other bottom, in the top frame the links are there and when u click on that links the contents load in the bottom frame.

The links in the top frame are in layers and are made visible onmouseover, but the layers get behind the bottom frame. i want the layers to be in front of the bottom frame. how can this be done.

This was also done in flash, the top menu was made in flash which was in the frames and onmouseover the links would displayed which where also in flash, in the same swf movie, how was done, plz help.

Need Firefox Workaround For Flash Layers Over Html
I have an html page with two transparent background flash layers (z-index 1 & 2) on top of the html content (z-index 0).
In IE, links on all three layers are clickable thru the transparent backgrounds of the flash layers.
In Firefox, only the links on the top layer (z-index 2) are clickable.

Example

If you click the "flash layer 1" button a red box will expand to the full size of the flash stage with transparent background.

Link 1 and Link 2 are under the area of the stage and are still clickable when viewed in IE.
They are not clickable when viewed in Firefox.
Also in Firefox the "flash layer 1" button is not clickable because it is under the stage of flash layer 2.

Does anyone know of a good workaround to make this work in Firefox?

HTML Frames And MX Layers

But my website doesn't, It unloads the webpage with a search box. But I will change the url to the index page as the first website. It's first button shows the webpage. And with their webpage at http://www.bonus4u.da.ru first window is clicked then the second button shows, or layer.

I know how to use frames, and their website at http://www.bonus4u.da.ru the entire flash movie is written as a layer to unload the bonus icon.

Can someone help me. My index page shows the whole movie. The website at http://www.bonus4u.da.ru is written using flash layers, I suppose. And the flash is written to unload the bonus.

Can someone explain how to do this effect. How to create a rollover from the clicking on the url to bring up the second button.

Hide/show Html Layers
I have a big problem and I hope someone can help me:

In the first frame of the actions layer, I wrote:

I have 15 buttons in a swf with the following action:

(I've nottice that the following statement:

getURL("javascript:MM_showHideLayers('"+categ+"',' ','hide')");

doesn't always work if it is placed at the beginning of the row...
Then I thought I might have been wrong about something, but i don't know what...

Java Links To Layers In Html
I posted this question in the "General" forum last week and have yet to get ANY replies, so I plead with you for mercy in answering my question!!! I have a link in a .swf that I want to reveal a hidden layer created in Dreamweaver with Javascript (Show/Hide Layer). Specifically, after the "GetURL" command, how do I then specify the layer in that page? when I "getURL" to the HTML page, it works, but with all the layers turned off. HELP!

Show/Hide Layers HTML Script.
I asked this question on Virtual-FX.net and got a rather unclear & unkind response.

If someone knows a better way than the way im doing it, then tell me how. In detail.
I use Dreamweaver because my HTML knowledge goes only so far.
Im an artist, not a computer programmer.

What im looking for is where in Flash do i put this HTML code:

"MM_showHideLayers('Image2','','hide','Image1','', 'show')"

(Copied from Dreamweaver)
('Image1' is the layer name of the 1st layer)
('Image2' is the layer name of the 2nd layer)

I have a 640x480 Flash.
The Flash has 5 Flash buttons that when clicked, move accross the screen to a location.
In the center, it is blank.
This is due to Im putting the Flash in the Back of an HTML page created in Dreamweaver.
Im creating a Layer for each button in DW.
So when you click a button in the Flash,
it slides & animates, then Show/Hides the proper layer in DW.

I know the only HTML code that needs to be sent from Flash to the HTML it that command.

I must be staring right at the action Script line that allows you to input HTML but for some dumb reason I can find it.

Controlling Visibility Of Specific Html Layers From Swf Movie
Hi Folks.
Three questions really.
1) Can it (Controlling visibility of specific html layers from Swf movie) be done, cross browser and cross-platform within the swf via actionscript?
2) How? And please would someone be kind enough to give me an example and/or some sample code to work with please?

It is basically because Netscape doesn't support transparency settings, so I am having to make layers that appear/hide instead of just using the transparency settings in Flash (Which would be the ideal option), unless someone knows how to force NS to behave properly with the transparency option???

Are there any problems with Mac variants (IE and NS) that I should code for too, as there's nothing worse than doing loads of work only to find that it doesn't work at all with one platform/browser combo?

Merging Layers Or Scanning Layers Into Image
Hello all. Been awhile since I've been to the FlashKit forums, but I'm learning something new.
Anyway, I've been programming in AS1 and AS2 for awhile and just recently started learning to do AS3. To start my learning progress I'm making a drawing program...
So far I just have draw and erase functions. Every time you "draw" it creates a new Shape object to draw on. This way if I want to add "Undo" I just go through and delete the new Shape object one by one. When you erase it creates a layer above the last draw area with a blend mode of "erase". So pretty simple.
The problem I have so far is that after drawing and erasing a bit it starts to get laggy as all the layers pile up on top of each other. When I add an undo function I will only have 10 steps of undo so to reduce overhead. But even without undo the extra layers are needed to be able to erase part of the drawing and then draw over where you erased.
So this brings me to my question. Is there a way in AS3 to merge together multiple layers or Shape objects? So after so many layers are created by drawing and erasing I can merge them into one flat one to reduce the processing needed.
I was thinking maybe I could do this though scanning the pixels on the clip contaning all the layers? I know I worked with saving images in Flash 8 before, but not sure how this works in AS3. I hear it's faster, hopefully fast enough to not have to wait 5 minutes every so many times you draw in my program.

i had 3 layers selected... went to trash them and somehow the were turned into guide layers... this would be great if i could find out how it happened. rather than turning one at a time into a guide.

i am mocking up a site, which can be found at HERE

The only links operational are Catering and King Cakes, and are only operational if you REFRESH the page. i know i am lacking a preloader, i have it built, but am not wasting time with it right now.

As you can see from the example, i have our little Butcher Guy off to the left, and for each "department" of our organization, i would like to dress him for the part. i want our butcher guy to fade in and out, and in the case of the King Cake page, i would like our logo and the Italian flag on the left to change into the traditional Mardi Gras colors in all their gaudy splendor.

My problem lies in the fact that my men seem to be piling up on one another, as does my Italian and Mardi Gras flags.

If i use "index.html" to load "Master.swf" (which is the initial, fade in page), and master.swf has inside of it, actionscript to load "MasterMardiGras.swf", (which is the King Cake page), how would i go about getting control and order in here?

Question About Controlling Layers From Other Layers
Is it possbile to create an action in a loaded movie in layer1 that will tell the movie in layer0 to go to a specific frame and start playing?

Another question I have is, can you load a movie into a container or layer and have it start, not at the begininning, but at a specific spot in the loaded movie's timeline?

Hidden Layers Vs Guide Layers
I often have things on a layer that I don't want to see while I'm working on another layer and frequently testing and tweaking and I used to just have those hidden in the timeline and they would publish. And if I didn't want a layer to publish, I'd make it a guide. In CS3 it seems that those hidden layers won't publish (though at times I've had them publish for me in certain files, but I don't know why).

Is there a setting I can choose to make hidden fields publish like they did prior to CS3?

Action Scripted Layers Always Act As Top Layers?

However, the snow effect always acts like the top layer, ok what i mean is, i have 3 layers, (1)toplayer= a car, (2)middle= snow, (3)low= background.

I want to make the snow to be seen behind the car...i hope you understand what i mean , whenever i put the code from the link above it acts as the top layer and appears in front of everything.

so there is some hair on the floor, and some bald patches in my head...big deal!
anyways...at the moment my movie is kinda messy, but something is happening that really annoys me!
i have this mc that loads into a target..and then you click button2 and this loads mc2 into the target, ok fine!
BUT, what is buggin´me, is that when you click, say, button3, to load mc3...you see like whats underneat...on the very bottom layer...and i dont want that to happen....i want there to either be nothing...or atleast show the previously loaded mc...but not the very bottom.....
how can i solve this guys??

Hi,

I have tried to get an I-frame on top of a flash file in a webpage, and this is the result:

Bot the I-frame and the flash movie are in a <div> layer, but the one with the I-frame ofcourse with a higher z-index. It works (atleast in IE, not in Mozilla), but when I click the Flash movie, the div layer is moved up, over the I-frame.

Has anyone tried to experiment with this before, and have you found a sollution to my problem?!

Whats the average amount of layers to make a nice flash intro...coz i try to keep my layers to a minimum so i can keep track of things but then i was wondering if i should let loose and go wild... will not affect my loading up speed or anything...

Flash In Layers
I have a site that has different movies in different layers. there is a menu layer above another layer with a tree component in it.

it was working fine but I rebuilt it after a redesign and now the tree layer is not functioning and I cannot work out why.

it works fine when it is not below the menu layer, so its a case of the menu layer disabling it.

I am using wmode transparent.

Flash And <div> Layers
I am having an issue with a scrolling menu and a flash movie. You can view it at:

As you will see both work fine, but the menu scrolls below the flash movie. I have both on their own layer and have played with the <div> tags and z-index but the scrolling menu is always under the flash movie no matter what I do. Does anyone have any ideas?

OK, Hoping this is a simple one. I would like to "flatten" or merge layers within flash. Is this possible? The reason being is I have drawn a window component using numerous layers and now want to flatten them down to make final tweaks to the overall object.

I have been working on two flash projects. I want to import one file into the other. Using the import function, it will import it, but it will compress the project into 1 layer. I need the layers to keep functionality of the original project.(form)

Overlapping Flash Layers
One flash file is on the page, another is on top of it, using transparency. When the two animations cross paths, the bottom swf shows thru to the top one.

What are the options in preventing this?

Here's what I've come up with, but I need more suggestions.

1. make the bottom flash file invisible while the top layer plays, then do a getURL javascript call to change the visibility at the end of the top one.

2. (similar execution) write a js function that will re-locate and then re-write the top layer so that the bottom file is actually just re-written into the top layer when the top layer is finished.

3. don't have the layers overlap.

I DESPERATELY need more options. Money is riding on this.

Now, here's the catch:
These files are being served by a third party, via a javascript call.

I have very little control over the actual OBJECT and EMBED tags... so the changes have to take place in the actual flash files, or after the fact via javascript.

Can You LINK Layers In Flash?
Hi... I'm fairly new to flash and I was wanting to do some animations with it for my website... I was wondering if it was possible to link the axies of layers or symbols to one another to create a chain that will move when you move one end but the other end stays stationary... I figure it involves alot of math but I'm not worried about it... I was looking into the triginometical calculations for a mouse look at controler but I was wanting something that worked in flash so I can Connect a character together... instead of animating each part seperate.
