How To Organize Data In Flash CMS...
Hi again.
Currently I'm learning about making Flash CMS.
But I have a problem about how to organize the data(I use SQL and PHP) and sections in Flash...

See, all my script in either PHP and Flash are soo.. not organized. and this is confusing when I want to continue further... I didn't even create Folder in my Library to categorized things...

Can anyone give an outline how to organize them?

Or are there any tutorial about how to organize data along with organizing the scripts, so that it will be much much easier to handle, memorize and of course fun?

How You Organize Your Flash Files?
How you organize your flash files?It is so hard when you have tons of fla and swf files to remember what contains every file.For now my method is to create an image of the flash file if the flash file have graphic elements,to add a text with keywords and notes(this way I can use a desktopsearch program for finding my fla).

How Should I Organize A Large Online Catalogue In Flash?
I've been charged with creating a large online catalogue of over 200 necklaces in Flash. The necklaces are organized in groups of 30. (6 groups). So far, I've done it where you click on a button for each necklace and it takes you to a certain point in the timeline but I'm not sure if I should do this for 240 necklaces.

Anyone have any recommendations how I should set up this site?

Problem With Flash Menu I Cant Organize My Pages
Well I decided to go with a flash menu on my website so if any main menu items need to be changed, all I have to do is update the .swf file and all the pages will be updated. unfortunately I have now run into a dilemma. I originally just had all my main pages (index, contact, products) Within the same folder and the menu works fine. The only problem is as I add more and more pages I would like to start placing pages in folders, But if i put one of the HTML files in a folder than when the .SWF menu trys to link it dosent work becasue all of the pages need to be in the same directory! It would be more harm than good if I had to make a whole lot of different menu files depending on where the HTML page is located. How in the world can you have a flash menu for a website AND have neatly organized pages? Hopefully i've made myself clear...Anyone have any idea of what I can do??Thanks guys!

Timelime VS Multiple Pages
I'm setting up a corporate site using all Flash. I have one page with a section I use to display frames or or small slide shows.
I am confused as to the best practice of calling the content in the page.

Would I use one large time-line in my FLA file and call each specific frame

or
use multiple FLA files which display inside the content area of my page?

I am concerned about load times and also being able to expand upon the site after I have it running.

Movieclips Versus Main Timelime?
Hi guys:

Just a quick technical question. I have a really light (60Kb) animation sequence:

But it plays really slowly on some machines, it is sluggish. I have set this up as several animation movie clips that are on the main timeline so could this be causing the sluggishness?

Would it be better to have everything on the main timeline so that only 1 timeline is being played and not multiple ones (through the mcs).

Any feedback/solutions would be GREATLY appreciated.

MX2004 External Swf Timelime Control ?
Help !!

I have two swf movies. "1.swf" loads "2.swf" into it's main timeline in frame 1 using :

loadMovie("2.swf",_root);

"2.swf" contains a stop(); on frame 1 and 2.

What I want to do, if it is possible, is to move the playhead on "2.swf" to frame 2 from say a button in "1.swf". Is it possible to target in this way and if so what would be the syntax?

on (release) {
??? 2.swf ??? .gotoAndStop(2);
}

Accesing The Main Movies Timelime ... Grrr*
Hi Flashers!

I split a big movie in 5 smaller movies and want to load them one after the other automatic into a mainmovie.

If I try to access the mainmovie from one of this 5 loaded movies to skip to the next scene to load the second movie and unload the first movie I used this script:

_level0.gotoAndPlay("F1",5);
stop();

The mainmovie should jump to frame 5 unload the current movie and skip to the next scene to import the second movie and so on.

But nothing happens

How have I to adress the main timeline of the mainmovie from a loaded movie in level x?

What I`ve done wrong?

Swf Appears To Be Looping The Root Timelime Indefinitely

I am designing a relatively complex Flash site. During the development stages, I hosted the files at http://www.russcooper.net. There, everything was working as expected. This morning I uploaded the files to the real URL to be used: http://www.russcooperinc.com.

The exact same swf files and HTML file were uploaded to the new domain and THERE the swf appears to be looping the root timelime indefinitely. Both of these domains are hosted on the same server, however, the problematic one has a dedicated IP. I don't know if that is an issue, but other than that, I can't see any difference in these two domains.

There is nothing in the flash file to cause this loop or it would loop on the test domain as well. I'm lost, and today is the interim presentation to the client. Hope someone has some insight!!!

How To Organize?
I have a flash movie with a number of pieces that are going to need to load in at various times. Each of these pieces are the same size,
shape, and place on the stage. They are all fairly weighty so I don't want them to all load at the beginning - I want them to load only when
they are needed to do so (each with own preloader). Any suggestions as to best way to organize this?

[F8] How Would You Organize 500 MC's On The Stage?
I'm making a real simple scene creator and I have a lot of MC's, but I don't want to litter the screen. The problem is the AS I'm using is limiting me:

Is there a way that my main class (let's call it Service) can choose which file to reference for another class for data encoding? For instance, if I want my Service class to be a communication channel and I want to have it encode data as XML i could choose a class called SerializeXML. If I wanted my data encoded as a PHP object, i would use SerializePHP.

Ideally using my main Service class in your Flash file would not bloat your project unnecessarily by compiling a Serialize class that doesn't get used. For instance if I'm developing my Flash project to speak with a PHP server, there would be no need for SerializeXML and so it would not get included.

Is there some easy way to do this? I'm also hoping to make my class very easy to use so the users don't have to write a ton of code to choose SerializeXML vs. SerializePHP.

How To Organize This Project
I wanty to solicit your advice for an all-flash (or 90% flash) website that will feature a lot of small photo galleries, all text and image assets to be loaded dynamically. The basic hierarchy is at the end of this message.

At first, I thought this would be a natural for a screen based presentation but given several posts I've seen at livedocs (and my own limitations of time and technical expertise), that would prove difficult.

So I think my options are:
- build each sublevel as a separate swf and dynamically load them
- use scenes (or labeled keyframes on the main timeline)

....what would you do? (And if you have an example you can share publicly, great!). Thanks in advance. Here's the structure.

Using Folders To Organize Files, Help?
Hello. My files are out of control. I need to organize them in folders. Right now I just have everything in one root folder. How do I access files that I have put in a folder, lets say picture_folder, that is located in my root directory. Also, will it work the same on my computer as if it were on my server?

How To Organize Menu And Transitions
Hi guys,
sorry, it's probably a stupid question.
I often have some doubts, when i build flash sites, about which approch is better to organize menus and transitions.

I often have this situation:

1) user click a button of the menu
2) I launch the transition-out of the current page
3) when the transition is complete I launch the transition-in of the new page

What happen then, if the user click another button before the transition out is finished?

I see some option:

option 1#
I call a function that instantly stop the tweens and remove the page before the transition-out ends.

This is good for the user because he doesn't need to wait time to access the content he want but it's very ugly to stop the transition in the middle.

option 2#
I can disable the menu until the transition is finished.
This allow the transition to complete there route but old Jakob Nielsen will not be happy

option 3#
I could register the click events of the user and, when the transition out finish, the application can launch the last required page. It doesn't help at all because the user didn't get his page immediatly and when the transition out finish he will be surprised to get the new page with a lot of delay from his request.

What do you think is the better way?

How To Make Use Of Lables And Organize The Layers Pallette
well i'm wondering since i shouldnt use scenes from what i've read that when i do use lables how do i do so. If i wanna make a website do i make 1 scene, and convert my buttons and content to MC and then double click the MC's and put in the movement for that button and lables inside of that and THEN put the release functions and all that on the main scene to tell it what to do (ex. to do the animations i've made inside the MC iteself).

Also whats the best way to organize a whole site in the layers and timeline pallette so i dont get confused?

How To Organize Items In Monstrous Drag-and-drop?
I don't know where to put this. :s

Anyway, my problem is that I have a ton of items [loook] that I want to put in one drag-and-drop. The problem is, I can't just put them all out in the document like I have done in the past- there are just too many. But I have no idea what to do! Is there a way I could hide some items until a button is clicked, and then the items will b temporarily visible, but once they are dragged to a certain place, become permanently visible? New To Flash, Trying To Self-learn
Before I edited the .fla file, the movie would work when I clicked on the executable file. Everything worked ok. Then I edited the .fla file to make updates. Now when I click on the executable file I get a box with a big blank white rectangle and above it it says Flash, then file, view, control, help. Why doesn't the program run anymore and how can I fix it?

How Did You Learn Flash?
I have never created a website before and I want to know if Flash will help me accomplish my goal.
I am having a devil of a time locating tutorials and books that can help me learn what I need to know in Flash CS3.
Most of what I find is for Flash 8. I have yet to find any tutorial to make a map like map quest that I can grab move and zoom
using a mouse. I am starting to wonder if Flash is even capable of doing this. Can anyone point me to a book on Amazon or
a Flash CS3 tutorial. The books I have researched on Amazon don't specifically show in the table of contents moving and zooming things with a mouse.

How Did You Learn Flash?
Can anybody recommend a beginner to intermediate level flash book? I understand the basics of flash and do HTML and databases daily. Would it be better to just go with an ActionScript type book and pickup the beginner to intermediate stuff here?

I am currently looking at the Flash environment. Seems very intimidating. I have done many websites for hire, but they were done in programs like FrontPage. Im a webdesigner who wants to learn flash. Im looking to learn basic-medium flash design for web. Ive looked around for books etc but cant really find anything that is specifically for web. I dont want to spend alot of time learning to much animation etc.

Hello,

I am a decent ColdFusion developer and am looking to learn Flash. Anyone have any recomendations on where to start? I used a Forta book to learn CF way back when but I don't think he has a Flash book. Also, being that they are both Macromedia products I have read that these two integrate fairly well. Anyone have any comments on that?
