Linux & Flash
Hi there,
Where can I find a flash player for linux, Does it exist ? I found many players which work with a browser but never in a standalone window.
If you know a web site where it is possible to find something like that. Or if you know a good technique that permits to display a flash application in full screen. I will be happy to know it.

Regards.

Can Flash Run In Linux?
I have created a flash program which i have published it in .exe (to run in Windows), .hqx(to run in Mac).

If i want to run this program under Linux platform, what file extension should i publish? Can i use the .exe extension?

I don't have Linux OS installed on my computer. So I can't try the .exe extension.

Can anyone tell me about this?

Flash & Linux
Just thought i'd post this random tip;

When playing a flash movie from a browser like Konqueror or Firefox in Linux, you sometimes don't get sound.

This is because Linux uses one of several sound daemons to play sounds and your browser may be confused about which one you are using (you can only use one unless your soundcard can handle more than one channel and it is configured that way; in which case, you wouldn't have this problem and you shouldn't be reading this).

The fix? Use a program called "aoss" to force a program to play sound using the commonly used ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) sound daemon. This is how you would launch firefox with aoss and be able to hear sound properly on the browser:

Code:
aoss /path/to/firefox
Very simple to use, and quite a wonderful fix. I faced this problem in my early days with linux and thought someone might want to know how to fix it (even though there are many answers to this problem on the net already).

Flash For Linux
Does anyone know of a decent Flash composing program with a GUI that is comparable to Macromedia Flash MX? I recently swiched from Windows to Linux and I'm much happier, aside from not being able to work on my flash movies.

Linux And Flash
I have a small doubt. (it might not even be a good idea to paste it here, but…)
I noticed that I can publish .exe files of my flash application.
Can I run them on a linux environment (ubuntu) or even like just swfs?

Flash, Linux, Xml
I'm wondering if anyone can help me - I have an rss feed generator that I made using the mm tutorial example. It works fine on my home computer, and on one of my servers (unix) - I have, however, recently transferred to a linux server, and now it appears to not even be reading a text file (first step) to ascertain the whereabouts of the php file that gets the rss.

I've checked case sensitivity and can find no differences - is there anything anyone knows that I should know about.

cheers,

derek

Flash For Linux
give support to Linux users please: www.Flasheee.com/linux/ or find out more at www.flasheee.com it only needs your name, please pass this message on. IF this is removed by Adobe then they suck.

Flash Cs3 Or 4 For Linux?
i know this subject has come up 80 times before, however recent news makes me wonder how likely it is that adobe will soon release flash for Linux,

news bit 1:adobe donated code to the Mozilla foundation
2:with the recent newcomer silverlight not supporting Linux-browsers, it seems like adobes best move would be to cater to true universal support and the growing Linux market
3:dells recent Linux endeavour, should be a sign to adobe that the market for linux is expanding rapidly on the desktop
4:adobe joins open source development labs

it may be wishful thinking on my part but i think adobe is seriously considering this

Flash 9 For Linux
I installed the Flash 9 for Linux, and it works!

I'm using Firefox. The first time I fire up Firefox, it's at Flash version 9 and works perfectly. But when I close Firefox, the next time it drops back to Flash 7. Does anyone know a fix? Normally I use Flash under WinTel, but I wanted to experiment a little. It works great, except I have to install it again after I close the Firefox browser, because the browser always reverts back to version 7.

Thanks.

Flash 8.5 On Linux...
I experienced random A/V synchronization issues with Flash 7-I hope those and other various bugs (the Doom 3 page didn't often load correctly fo rme) are corrected in the upcoming release...as soon as Macromedia releases the client-side player for Linux is when I'll buy Studio 8, but not a moment until then.

Flash With Unix/Linux
Hi,
is there a way to make Flash (the program not the player) on a PC running Unix/Linux ?
This is basically for making Flash work with PHP/mySQL on Linux. When you have a POST function in your Flash script, does it work through the .fla file or through the .swf ?
Is it possible that I get the .html and .swf onto Linux, and be able to work it with my PHP/SQL ?

Thanks,
Manojo

Flash 6 Linux Player
i am currently creating training lessons in Flash MX on a MAC
but running the software on Linux and the Linux Flash 6 player
and here is a snag i have run into...

When launching the swf at full screen (using fscommand in action script),
it works fine; but if the file remains idle (so the system launches the screen saver),
the file is no longer full screen center.
It is 100% size and repositioned.
Placing the file in the upper left corner of the projector in the center of the screen.

Any help shall be repayed with mad props and a

Why Not Make A Flash For Linux?
Hello!

I was wondering if flash works on Linux, but now i know it doesnt. I wanted to take out this crappy Windows off my computer, but i cant live without flash

Why not make a Flash for Linux? It would only sell more products and Macromedia would gain more and more!

Flash 8 On A Linux Box - It Works
I promissed I would get this working one day ! Because Linux is better. Period.

Macromedia Flash 8 Basic and Professional works on any Linux via wine.
You must install it first on any real windows environment (or via vmware) then use a hacked exe (FFF for example).
(Of course: You should own a licensed version !)
Patch the .exe and copy all three folders inside "Program Files/Macromedia":

"Flash 8"
"Flash 8 video Encoder"
"Extension Manager"

Goto to terminal and type:
# wine Flash.exe

That's it. Good luck Folks ! No more Windows needed !!

Flash 9 For Linux On X86_64?
On trying to install Flash player 9 on SuSE 10.2 x86_64 running on an Athlon 64 3000 I was told that my "platform was incompatible" and given no option to go ahead with installing the 32-bit version.

Is a 64 bit version in the works? Or, can anyone suggest a workaround that'll make the 32-bit install script run on a 64-bit system? If anyone from Adobe is listening, is there a 64-bit "Beta" build I could aquire...?

Flash Development On Linux OS
I am building a Linux OS supported system. The only application that I can not find a replacement for is Flash. I can find applications that let you build SWF products but none of them will allow the advanced features that Flash does (like external actionscript files). Is there a version of Flash (minimum of version 5) that I can run on a Linux machine?

Can't See Texts In Flash Under Linux.
I'm using The latest flash player for linux but i can't see texts in flashs. Example, www.corutturbo.com -> ı can't see menu's texts.
Any idea?

Flash Projector For Linux
Hi all,

I have created a Flash Projector in windows and I need it to run on a Linux distributuion ( Fedora 6). How can I do this?
From what I understand the new flash player 9 package also includes the stadalone version fro projectors. If this is the case, how do I export a projector for linux.

Details:
The Projector will be launched in fullscreen automatically when the computer is booted up. It then connects to a remote database and loads different swf movies from the remote server.
The reason I used a projector instead of a normal swf is because of all the sandbox issues.

Thank you!

Flash 9 Fonts Too Big In Linux
I'm trying to play the online point-n-click game MOTAS. It uses Flash. I have noticed that some of the comments when you click on things are too big to fit on the game screen, so it just goes off the screen to the right and left, and you just can't see it all. It wasn't a big deal until I got to one of the last levels and you have to read a random number off of a sign and use it somewhere else. The number doesn't fit on the screen, and it isn't always the same, so it's impossible to get past that level in Linux.

This doesn't happen in Windows. I played it in Windows and was able to see all of the comments easily and finish the game. I would still like it to work right in Linux, though.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change this? I have gsfonts-x11 installed, and I have tried lowering the system fonts, which doesn't affect what is happening in Flash.

Flash Problem On Linux
I just upgraded my firefox browser from 1 to 2 version on linux redhat AS 4.Then i downloaded flash latest plugin rpm n installed , but when i checked it in firefox adds-in , thr is no flash plug in installed. I can't run flash contents on browser. Pls help me out.

Problem With Flash 10 In Linux
I'm having an issue with Flash 10.0 r12 on a linux machine through Firefox 3.0.3. I'm unable to access the settings menu on some sites such as Stickam.com. The video also doesn't work even though it appears that the cam gets initialized.

Problem With Flash 10.0.12.36 In Linux
I am a Linux user who has regularly updated flash player -- until now. In the past, I download the .tar.gz file from the Adobe web site and copy the libflashplayer.so file from the file into my ~/.mozilla/plugins folder. As soon as I did this, my Firefox and Opera browsers were updated to the latest version.

This simple procedure no longer works. When I copied the 10.0.12.36 version of libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins folder, Flash Player ceased working in my browsers.

Is there a bug of some sort in the latest release? Is there a different procedure for updating Flash? The installer script doesn't do anything besides copy the libflashplayer.so file to the folder specified. I can do that without the help of the installer. Also, I noticed that there is no flashplayer.xpt file contained in the .tar.gz file. When I run the installer, there is no flashplayer.xpt file copied over. Is this a change from the previous versions?

Flash Remoting On Linux Box
Sorry, for the cross-post, but I know not all Flash developers check the CF forums and vice versa. Since the problem applies to both I figured it wouldn't hurt to try both areas.

I'm getting the following error when trying to connect to a CFC using flash remoting.

Service threw an exception during method invocation: An error occurred when performing a file operation read on file {web_server_path}/flashservices/.

The flash file is on a Windows box, the CFC on a Linux box running CF Standard Edition, Version 6,1,0,63958. I've tested remoting to the CFC on several windows servers running the same version (6.1) of CF (But Enterprise and Developer edition) and it works fine. My 2 Linux boxes give me grief. I did try doing what this technote suggests to no avail.

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18608

I also tried to manually create the /flashservices/gateway directory structure which someone else suggested for AMFPHP. Any suggestions?

Flash Video On Linux
I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes.

I need to include flash video on a cd. People using the cd will probably not have internet access and the cd needs to run on linux.

Is there a way that I can include flash movies to run in firefox without having a streaming server.
The only thing I can control is that the user will have flash player 9 installed.

I created a flash movie in flex and inported a flash video file. This plays fine in windows but does not want to play in linux.

Any help would be appreciated. I have no experience with video and flash video, so I am not sure if this is even possible.

Flash On Linux, Someday?
How many of you think that should happen?

Even if GNU/Linux isn't the first choise for designers, it is for coders. And Flash is becoming a lot of coding.

So, let me hear it for Flash in Linux!... no? (I'd like it)
