Using Actionscript And The Drawing API To Animate A Line (2 Points) To 2 New Points
hi everybody - what is the best way to go about this?

at its most basic - i need to animate a line's beginning and end points using tweener to 2 new points somewhere else on the stage.

my first thought is to start with the excellent 3d spinning cube example that kirupa made on kirupa.com and backtrack from there.

but i'm hoping to find a much simpler and efficient way of accomplishing what i need.

the problem that i know i need to get around is this.... i have to find a way to have the Tweener class give me updated positions of the x and y of the two points which make up the lines. and somehow i have to use the drawing api to 'get inside of' tweener to update the stage accordingly - reason for this is that these lines will need to use the elastic tween and bounce around a bit.

Convert WMV File With Defined Cue Points To FLV And Keep Cue Points?
Hello, I need to know how to do this. I have wmv files with defined already cue points. I want to convert the video in to a FLV to play it over the net with flash, but I want to keep the cue points defined in the wmv. Is there a way to do this automaticaly or can I save the script lying under the WMV file defining the cue points in to a flv script. It is important that everything is done almost automaticaly because I have a lot of wmv files....

Embed Live Cue Data In Live Stream?
I am currently using the new FME to encode live to a FMS. Both applicatioins are running on the same machine. Is there a way to embed live cue and metadata into the live stream? Once embedded we want to record the stream AND send it on to viewers. Is there a way to process this on the server. The live cue and metadata is coming in the serial port.

Finding Points Between Two Points
This seemed more likely to be answered here but if this belongs in Math and Physics please move it.

If I were given the following coordinates, how would I calculate the end points of the red segments? There's a 5 point gap between the endpoints and the corners.

Functions, Can't Live With Em, Can't Live Without Em
I'm new to functions and I need some help. I am trying to create a game in which icicles fall, and doing it by an action. I don't know how to use a function and use the "this._y" command. I cannot get a function to actually manipulate a movie clip when it has actionscript on it. I can normally, but I'm trying to do it with a function.

Could someone please give me a demo of how to use a function to make an MC's Y value move onClipEvent(enterFrame) ?

PRELOADERS, Can't Live With Them, Can't Live Without Them
I need a prealoader that has a bar to show how much has loaded. BUT, I don't want it to be dependant on how many frames the movie has, cause I still have a lot of work to do and a lot of frames to add, meaning that the whole movie may come to change. I have been ransacking flashkit and the web for a tutorial on this but I can't seem to find one...

In Director you can use cue points, does flash 6 allow you to use cue points?

Map And Points
I have an access DB with all the zip codes, I want to make a map that when a new location is added it will show as a point on the map, would I have to put x and y values for every zip code and then a movie clip as the dot on every point, or is there an easyier way about this, any tutorials to get me started or anything. I'm using asp as backend.

FLV Cue Points
Hello,

I have encoded my video and added 3 cue points, BEGIN, MIDDLE, END. What I would like to do is while the streaming movie is playing and it gets to the "MIDDLE" cue point, jump ahead to another frame in the timeline of my flash movie. Is there a way to do this without writing code from scratch? I'm not very good with code.

Hi All

Really getting me down this one.

I have a page that pulls in all it's info from an xml file (works fine). I have a video frame (from library drop down) that displays my flv video just great.
All this is controlled by actionscript ( play, pause etc.). But now I need to get to the Navigation cue points added to the videos from a selection of buttons on stage.

Is this possible?, Do I need to use an flv component?

All is working great bar the cue points

i have read a few tutorials and web pages about placing cue points in an flv and having them communicate with the swf that houses the flv, but i cannot seem to get it to work, can anyone help me with the code?

simple: flv has 8 points where i just need a clip on the main timeline to jump to a certain frame, bullet points pertaining to the content in the flash video. i cannot find a clear cut example that says HERE is what you put in the cue point settings, and HERE is what you put in your AS frame.

I am trying to learn how to make an event happen with a cue point in an FLV file. I know how to put the cue point in the FLV, but how do I program the Actionscript?

Cue Points
I have put 2 cue points into the flv during encoding. The variables are events called "music" and "end" the value is default for both. I need to either load an external swf to play the loop or insert the mc on "music". At "end," I need to load a button for the user to enter the site. My video is tiger_walk4.flv.

I really really need to get this together. I have used everyone's script examples and can't figure it out. If you reply to this post, assume that I am a moron and spell everything out as mush as possible so I can find the problem.

Oh... I'm using flash 8 if that matters.

Cue Points
I need some help with cue points. I am playing a streaming video with 3 cue points within it question 1, question 2 and question 3. When the video reaches a question 2 cue points I am trying to pause the video, display the question text to the right of the video and then have a button to continue. I am unfamiliar with using cue points and have looked through forums and adobe livedocs and can not get my head around them, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Why Can't I Add Any Cue Points ?
I imported a FLV and I selected cue points in the component inspector and got the dialogue. The problem is It lets me add cue points but It wont let me edit them!! Ugghh so frustrating! I uploaded a screen shot of what I see. The tutorials I have read says you can change the type and times just by clicking in them. It wont let me edit anything. Anyone know why?

MP3 Cue Points
I opened up Sorenson squeeze 4.5 and it allows me to add cue points to an mp3 file. Now how can I receive these as an event in flash through the sound Object when it doesn't have an onCuePoint event like NetStream does?
Is there a way to do this by adding an event?

I have asked this question before but I still can't get an answer so ill asl again.

I am trying to navigate through an flv with butons,

I have 1 flv with 2 cuepoints cp1, cp2, I have 1 button b1,
i want the flv to play from the start and play through cp1 and then when it hits cp2 i want it to go back and play from cp1 basiclly a loop between the two cuepoints.

I then want To be able to hit my button b1, and when this has been hit i want the flv to play from cp2 and on complete goto timeline frame 2 andStop

Please can anybody help me as I have spent litterally weeks tring to find the answer.

I am working on a project that plays flv in the flvplayback component, but my question isn't really about that component.

I am wanting to add cue points to an flv using actionscript. So that any flv played will always contain the same cue points.

Hi all,

This is a bit of a tough one and is completely above my programming capabilities, so I guess I could use a bit of advice on this one.

I have a project where users manipulate a simulation of a Gamma adjustment curve, changing a pictures CMYK values accordingly. That's not the problem, however adjusting the curve is!

Did some searching around and found this cool little file created by ericlin on this site....it serves my purpose brilliantly with one problem..... There needs to be thirteen points along my curve including the original 3 that his file came with. Needless to say the code blows my mind and although I've tried to work through and understand it, adding additional points for a curve to run through is completely over my head. Each 'dot' also needs to be constrained to just the y-axis and although I tried to do this by modifying the paramenters of the startDrag(), the whole thing goes haywire and I don't really know why.

If any Flash guru wants to have a look at the file and offer advice/suggestions etc, it would be really appreciated. Thanks

Need Cue Points Help Please
The problem:

I have a progressive video of a man talking which loads into the FLVPlayback component on the main timeline. I want to have different movieClip captions play in tendem which visually describe what he's saying- Just like watching the news. Text captions are unfortunately too generic for my needs on this project.

The setup:

Above the video layer on the main timeline, I have a layer called "captions". I've created an "mCaptionsHolder" mc instance and placed it above the vid layer on the "captions" layer.

In the "mCaptionsHolder" mc I've made 5 keyframes: one on frame 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25. I've put lables on each of those as well: C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5.

My 2 options are:

1) I could use embedded cue point events if I knew how to target those labels to play within the "mCaptionsHolder" mc. But it's those "name" and "parameters" fields to the right in the cue points dialogue box that confuse me. I looked through help, but couldn't find anything useful for this issue.

or, 2) I could create actionscript cue points (more flexible, but more code too)- I'm a designer btw!

Any help/code/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can I assign actions to the cue points that are created while using the Import Video wizard? For instance, have text appear on the stage to the right of the flv file when a cue point is reached.

CS4 And Cue Points
I upgraded to CS4 last week, and encoded a mov to F4V with 4 cue points for chapters.
However, when I drop this file into the video player (with chapters and subtitles) the cue points are not working.
I then encoded it to the usual FLV and the cue points do work.

Can anyone advise why this doesnt work on a F4V? Is there something Im doing wrong, or has the way in which cue points are set on F4V's changed?

I'm assuming such an incredibly useful function as cue points was not removed on F4V or was it?

Using Cue Points With FLV And AS
I have an FLV and I want to have several cue points, each will "cue" different text to appear.

I have a movie clip on my stage (instance name "hello") which is set to not be visible until the 5 second mark of the video, where the cue point "sayHello" tells the clip "hello" to become visible.
The AS on frame 1 looks like this:

However, at the 10 second mark of the video, I want the clip instance "hello" to go to frame 2. I've added the cue point "sayGoodbye" but I can't seem to create code that works for more than the one cue point action.

Can anyone help please?

Cue Points?
I've embedded 2 cue points in an flv file using the Flash Video Encoder. They are "middle_frame", type Navigation and "last_frame", type Event. I'm now trying to get a Flash CS3 script to move the playhead to the "middle_frame" cue point when the video player reaches the "last_frame" cue point.

I mostly have this working with the below code but when the player moves to the middle_frame cue point, the video is sometimes all pixelated. Is this because the source is at a website and if so, how can I test locally. I tried using a local path for the source file but the video won't play.

How To trigger "loadMovie" using cue points? When the video reaches the end I want to automatically load another external SWF. Anybody knows how?

Using Cue Points In FLV's
I am SUPER confused on how to make use of the cue point that I embedded in my FLV.

It is called "END", is at time 00:00:46.114 and is Event type.

How do I go about calling an action, say loader.loadMovie("info.swf), when the movie reaches that point? The Flash help only confused me more! Thanks!

I've been experimenting with flv's and cue points. I posted an example to show you the problem I'm having. The movie plays fine the first run through, but if you choose 'play' and watch it a second time, the cue points are ignored? You have to refresh the page for it to work again. Anyone know what's going on?

Help With Xml Cue Points And Flv
I created a presentation that loads flv's and images (the images are based on cue points from an xml file)...

Everything works great, but how do I trigger the cue point if the user scrubs through the video?

this is the code that works when the flv has reached a certain position that's equal to the xml cue point:

Could Use Some Help On A Few Points...
I'm not too good with flash but I've (almost) managed a menu to go on a webpage I'm doing but I'm having trouble finishing it. There's a few bits I just can't do so some help with any of them would be greatly appreciated. (deep breath!)

1, How do I add a sound to play when each button is rolled over and stop as soon as it's rolled out of?

2, How do I get the buttons to link somewhere?!! (They need to link to other html pages which will have the same menu back up)

3, I would like the menu (only 2kb) to come up straight away and then the background pic to pop up when it's loaded. At the moment the menu seems to wait for the picture to fully load.

4, I still don't understand preloaders but I'd really like one for the picture. Any pointers?

Might have a few more questions but I think that'll do for now. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. Not sure if I've got the right way about it, it's just been trial and error.

I'm adding cue points to an flv with actionscript, I have loads, perhaps one every 2 seconds, and I was wondering if there is a limit to the amount of cue points I should embed?

Does anyone know if there is a drop in performance or accuracy of the cue points when there are a lot of them?

I know that AS cue points can be inaccurate (up to a tenth of a second) but just wanted to know if the accuracy will be further decreased if I add allot of cue points

This works very well. But using the Flash 8 Video Encoder i added a parrameter called "slideName" to these cuepoints. how do i trace this parameter?

New To Cue Points...help?
I have an "intro" .flv and I want to insert a cue point on the last frame to trigger it to move to the next frame on the main timeline where I have the "home page" of a website. I'm using Sorensen Squeeze to add the cue point, but I'm not sure what code to use to make this happen. I have this set up for the .flv:

FLV And Cue Points
I followed some of the sample code on cue points and ended up with the below code - which works. The FLV plays and once it hits 6.9 seconds, it displays the movie clip named nemoImg.

However, the one thing I haven't figured out is how to reset the cue points if the FLV is played again. So when it plays through, it stops on the last frame. But if you hit the play button again, the nemoImg movie clip remains visible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Live XML
Hello, this is my first post lol,

I have a solution I'm working right now, and it will be running locally(in IE), I have XML data being loaded from an outside file.

I need this data to be live so right now I have a movie clip looping, so it will keep on loading the data, problem is that eventually this will cause my computer to run out of memory .

So my question is, is there a better way of keeping the xml data live without using a movie clip? and if there isnt is there a way to keep the amount of memory it uses down?

can anyone tell me how to create a line and have the points dragable hence, moving the line?. Or where I can find a tutorial on this?

I'm guessing it's got something to do with two dragable movieclips and then some scripting to create the line.

Registration Points
Does anyone know if you can dynamically change the registration point of a movie clip at runtime.

My problem is this. I have a dummy MC which I use to load different photos into at runtime. The problem is I have to place the dummy clip at the top left at the moment. But, I don't know the exact size or orientation of the picture I'm loading so I would prefer it to be centred, therefore whatever the shape of the photo it would still be in the centre of the display area.

Can anyone help or come up with an ingenious fiddle?

Distance Between Two Points
I was looking for a tutorial on this, but havent found one, so maybe you guys can help.

I am looking for something that can teach me how to draw a line between two points, or where there is always a line connecting two movie clips. I have downloaded some .flas from around the net, but they havent really been what Im looking for, or I havent been able to fully understand whats going on where I can modify it for myself.
